Do not get the elote! I just spent $7 on some corn. That's what elote is right no no it's not. I had to go home to add some spicy mayo some hot sauce some cheese and some lime because all you freaking get is some corn for $7!! I think there was a dollop of mayo halfway in between it was the driest corn I've ever had. With that said I'm giving them three stars because I love their salsa bar and their friendly service. Just don't get the elote here what a disappointment on a bad day. Okay so I just opened my rolled tacos. They were decent size but they were definitely microwaved. Look at how the cheese is melted and the taste was secondhand and the tortilla was super stale. There is no lettuce just cheese and guac. It's bare minimum around here. I use the red sauce and it tasted like soap. It has no cilantro in it and I love cilantro and it doesn't taste like soap to me just the salsa tasted like soap. I might have had the weirdest experience at a taco shop in California at this location. read more

Kids' menu is solid too, nuggets, bean and cheese burrito, or quesadilla, all come with fries and a drink, so that's a win for picky little ones. My husband got the California burrito with sour cream and basically inhaled it before I could even snap a pic (relatable). Best chicken taquitos ever! As you can see by the picture, they were very crispy. The chicken was tasty and juicy. The tortillas were crispy and tasty. We ate outside, inside is nice as well, but since we're by the ocean, we should eat outside! The patio is covered. Service was great. The employees were friendly. Restroom was really clean. A tucked away Taco Shop with some standard and not so standard affair offerings. For most of us we are used to the yellow, orange, red, brown decor of many "ertos" shops. The booths are padded and make it feel like it's closer to sit down waiter service places, but then you sit down and the booths are half not bolted down and off center. Like someone brawled in the store and knocked all the seating around and it wasn't put back together correctly. The menu is a little off center and backlit like most places, refreshing. Service is very good, friendly staff, they bring your food to you rather than do a # or name call out. Prices are about average and portions are to me a tad on the small side. As I've gotten older I've not been able to finish my California Burritos (90%), but here I usually crush them and 3 rolled tacos. A CAB should not be able to be held one handed. The carne asada is scooped the way many places are instead of cooking to order. A tad on the dry side, which is weird becuase their pollo, carnitas, al pastor seem to be fresher. It's seasoned well which is good, but the other ingredients seem to be a little bland (guacamole, cheese). I get some queso enchilado added because I find their cheddar cheese lacking in their burritos. Fries are crispy, but I prefer places that know a real CAB has guacamole and sour cream and don't need to be added on. The CAB is the carne asada fries, but in a tortilla, so why does the CAF get guac and sour cream and not the burrito? Rolled tacos are crispy, but again the works should have lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, cheddar cheese and queso enchilado. Sauces are pretty standard red and green and habanero. Carrots are a little undercooked, but I like that they have decent sized saucers. I hate having to get 8 hot sauces becuase they are half ounces each, like why do places do that. To me a tortilla should be so fresh all it needs is salt. These aren't quite that, but they do alot right. All in all it's a solid place with solid items, but there isn't anything that they do amazing or terrible. read more

Really friendly and quick service! They have specials daily, I've been here now twice on a Wednesday and took advantage of 4 rolled tacos + drink for 11.99! Really great price considering how much it comes with! Rice, beans, best rolled tacos in town, guacamole, and cheese. This shop also has a huge salsa bar with tons of options including limes and jalapeños. I got Agua Fresca as my drink and it was delicious! Very clean restaurant with hard working staff. I saw on their IG stories it was Taco Tuesday so I headed to Valerie's right after work. The staff that work there are nice and friendly. Service is expeditious. Food is delicious. I had the carne asada tacos, chips & salsa, and the watermelon agua Fresca. There is ample seating and the restaurant is clean. I recommend Valerie's for some good Mexican food! After 20 years of servicing the community, Pollos Maria has closed down, and in its place we now have Valerie's Taco Shop. Valerie's Taco Shop is a chain Mexican Restaurant that has multiple locations over the city of Oceanside & nearby cities. Their menu consists of a variety of Mexican dishes and specializes in tacos. Valerie's Taco Shop has all of the aspects you'd expect in a chain Mexican restaurant. Valerie's is located in the Grove Place shopping center which is located just south of the 76 Hwy. This plaza is known for its Lowe's & Ralph's, but it's also home to a few restaurant gems in the back corner. Although there's a small courtyard in front with tables and a small fountain, most customers will either dine inside, or pick up their food to go. The interior is spacious and has small tables that seat up to 4 and can be combined to seat larger groups. The one feature I really miss is having booth seating available. Everything seems so "open" to me and doesn't allow for a sense of privacy. Note: Although the inside is incomplete, they expressed that there will be bar-seating for those who want to watch sports on their televisions. For those who love Al Pastor, you can see theirs being freshly cooked through the windowed prep room. Their huge jugs of Agua Frescas, made fresh daily, also sit on display in the front. I personally love the watermelon and the cucumber with mint, but Horchata is always a favorite. I enjoyed my El Pastor taco, and if their food is consistent across their other locations, I also presume that their El Jefé Taco to be a big hit too. I also appreciate that they have WiFi for customers, because this area is known as a signal deadzone for those seeking to work online. I also expect the prices here to be slightly higher than the average Mexican joint that stands alone and the reason why is their location. This shopping center appears to be plagued with high lease-costs and this forces businesses to charge higher in order to compensate. In the grand scheme of new businesses opening in Oceanside, I knew that a smaller business wouldn't open here, but I'm also glad that no mega chain (like Taco Bell) moved in. Overall, I think Valerie's Taco Shop may do well once they get the word out on their opening. Their menu pricing will be their disadvantage to their already established competitors, but the quality of their food is where they shine through. read more

Save your money and skip this taco shop. I ordered five California burritos with guacamole and spent over $100. When I got them home, they were nothing but tortillas with a tiny amount of carne asada, a few fries, and some cheese. There was no guacamole, and barely any filling at all. They were bland, disappointing, and nowhere near what was advertised. I called and simply asked for the burritos to be remade so my family could enjoy the meal we paid for. The manager told me they would call me back, but I never received a call. Poor quality food, poor customer service, and over $100 wasted. I will not be returning. read more

A nice range of well-made salsas were on hand, as well as the usual pickled carrots, jalapeños and onions, all fresh and tasty. The came to Valerie's twice and ordered tacos on June 4th, and received no beans on my tacos and on June 13th. I ordered tacos and one meal plate and I asked for no cheese. but still got cheese. It states no cheese on the receipt. This happened at two different locations. Better to go somewhere else where you can get what you pay for and good customer service. read more

I have had their tacos 5 days in a row and making it a 6th again tonight! My favorite is the carnitas taco with extra onion and cilantro. Like legit the tortilla makes this magical. Their carne asada taco is good, fish taco is good, they have a shrimp taco id suggest getting only if you dine in because it gets soggy for take out or delivery. But magical if you dine in. It was disgusting! The chips tasted like the smell of moth balls, the meat was dry and chewy and tasted like it was sitting out for hours, the food was lukewarm, the portion sizes for $15 was also laughable. Had the food actually tasted good it would have been worth it. This was literally how I threw it away, completely full and I hate to waste food but my god i'm not lying this had to be worst food I've ever eaten. I had California Burrito, the meat was on point not too bad. The only problem I had was the burrito was small for $13.00. The taste was there, I just wanted a lil more burrito filling. Valerie's...I grew up in coastal North County SD and was reared on the OG, Roberto's Taco Shop. My mother tells the story of how I was weaned from breast feeding with their salsa, always hot! True Story. We had one in Oceanside and of course the true original, in Leucadia. Roberto then turned things over to his lil bro Alberto for like the next decade. After he retired into the golden sunset it left a vacuum of power in the taco world where we now have so many cousins, nephews, uncles and 2nd cousins getting in the taco game. (even a few imposters - you know who you are!). You have your Adelbertos, your Eribertos and even your Agualbertos just to name a few! One of my favs however is Valerie's. I know what you're thinking. The name! What a tragedy. Shouldn't it be Valeriabertos? And you're right! The marketing would've caught on way faster but granddaughter Valerie knows what she's doing! The tacos and burritos remind me of those days of my youth when that 1st tantalizing taste of a carne asada burrito doused in hot sauce, passed between my labios. To make it even better is I had my go to Valerie's located less than a mile from my house. They recently opened another one the same distance on the Otro lado of my house. (Ralph's/Lowes off the 76) Now I can head in any direccion and I will run into Valerie!!! Sorry but 1 star off for the location near Target on El Camino Real. Been twice and both times it's messy. I'm sure they have high volume but needs to be tidied up a bit. But even worse, the last time I ordered at that spot my card was hacked/stolen off my Apple Pay Be careful visiting that one. Cons: The ambiance needs attention needs more tidiness and decor like before too wide open . Rice was no bueno almost had a rancid flavor, guacamole not sure if its pure avocado is very bland(no bueno) needs salt and basic ingredients added . Shrimp had some strange taste on a few pieces. Disappointing! We've had the carne asada nachos 3 times. First time was good minus the white cheese and pico. Second time they messed the order up we reordered and it still wasn't right. Third time it just didn't taste right. Carne asada wasn't good. Husband ordered chili verde burrito and that was the tiniest burrito ever. $34 for a burrito and nachos. We were prefer Colimas in Oceanside. The Valerie's in Ocean Ranch is better than this one. read more
