I've been hearing about this restaurant for a while now. But it's a bit out of the way for me so I haven't been to give it a shot yet until today. I went with some friends for a friend's birthday on his recommendation and when we arrived, there was actually a 45 minute wait so I was skeptical on whether or not it would be worth waiting for but it ended up not disappointing. The service was excellent and the house margarita was delicious, the chops and salsa were very good and they had a spicier one they served on the side that had a really good flavor and a good amount of heat. For my meal I ordered the Tijuana platter that comes with chicken flautas, a chicken quesadilla and a beef enchilada. All were fresh and delicious , the enchilada sauce was very good and even though I'm not a fan of ground beef enchiladas this one was flavorful and moist. Yall, I was so hungry and the food was so good, i forgot to take pictures...lol. The plates were huge, so for the amount of food you are getting, prices are reasonable. none of us finished our food as we were all so full. even the complimentary chips and salsa were pretty big. We were lucky to go right in without a wait, but as we ate, the place got crowded and I felt like there wasn't a lot of room, especially in the small space where the host stand is located. Unfortunately, that's the one way in and out of the restaurant. I really enjoyed my food and the alcoholic drinks served around us looked delicious. Being from California, I have an extremely high standard for Mexican food. I'm not talking about Tex Mex... I'm talking about real Mexican food that tastes like they just brought it over from Mexico itself. Los Molcajetes checks off all those boxes for me. Great chips and salsa and you can't beat the $6 margs for happy hour! Food is plentiful and great portions. There is no call ahead list and they do get slammed around dinner time. We went here for Father's Day. We had a 55 minute wait, which was understandable due to Father's Day. Our waiter was friendly and fast. The chips and salsa tasted very fresh and homemade. We ordered beef tacos, beef enchiladas, chicken fajitas, and fried ice cream. The food came out super fast. The beef tacos were very big and had a lot of meat and a lot of tomatoes in addition to the lettuce and cheese. This was welcomed as most places skimp. The beef enchiladas were very tasty, but I didn't care for their version of refried beans. The chicken fajitas had chicken pieces that were pink inside, was dry and flavorless and the onions and peppers were barely cooked. The fried ice cream tasted like a scoop of vanilla was dipped in oats, covered in caramel, and then placed in a bowl made of churros. It was different, but good. read more

Today 6/17/2025 I went to los molcajetes with my friends and honestly our experience was terrible. When I arrived I let them know that we had a party of 6 they sat me down immediately at a table that supposedly sits 6 people the table was up against a wall . As my friends started to trickle in I started to notice that the table was a bit tight , as the last 2 of our party showed up we realized that we were really tight at the table and at that point we only had our drinks and chips at the table and we were already stuffed like sardines in a can . I asked our waiter if we could join the table next to us so we had more room he explained to me that the table we had was for 6 people and that the table next to us was for 4 people that's when I told him I understood that but that we were to tight at the table and were going to be uncomfortable .,so he went to get his manager . I don't know if that guy was new or what but it seemed like he had To ask for approval to do anything in that restaurant but that's when his manager walked up and told us the exact same thing and that he wasn't goin to do it because it was a table for 4 people and we were already at a table for 6 . About 5 minutes later they sat a party of 2 on the table we had ask to be joined when he had just told us that it was ment for 4 people ! Our food came out fairly quickly as our table was full of plates and elbows ! , 2 of the food orders had a problem , one plate the food was cold and the other had some type of meat sauce on it and my friend doesn't eat meat. The waiter again went to go tell the manager and he came over to ask what the problem was we told him and I also told him what had happened to the table being for 4 people because there was clearly only 2 people sitting there . He smirked and told me "you're still arguing about the table ?!" If I was in any other situation I would have walked out , but unfortunately I wasn't able to get up and leave since my friends were already hungry and eating .They fixed the incorrect plates and well we ate with one hand on our lap and the other holding the fork ... I find it really rude of him to deny us the table after claiming it was for a certain amount of people and ignoring our comfort . My food was nothing to write home about and the other ladies said their food was ok . The waiter did his best but that short bald manager was simply rude . I normally don't EVER go to this molcajetes I always go to the one in Roanoke where the service is great the food is always on point very beautifully decorated and SPACIOUS . I will definitely not be goin back to this establishment EVER ! Can't say enough about Los Molcajetes, it's become my wife's favorite Mexican restaurant and it's mine too. I get something different every time, and it's always fantastic. The hot sauce is just right; a little heat to it, but little enough that most lightweights can handle it. They also make a sauce out of arbol peppers if you like some kick in your sauce. Great food! Was about a 10-15min wait around 5pm which to me personally is crazy. Most places are busier around then. Service was great, very fast and very nice. Lobby a bit small with lots of food traffic. The bar area was smaller than most but still very cool. Ambiance was a tad bit out dated but kinda still suited the restaurant. I did not eat in, so this review is based solely on the foods and pickup time. My food was ready minutes before the started time, that was very quick and no wait time was nice. As for the soup, this wasn't my favorite soup. Personally, I don't like my cheese or avocado added for me. I like doing that myself, or not. Maybe consider ordering on the side. Packaging and portion were very good. The broth was heavily seasoned. So much so, that it's missing the chicken flavor for me. Another thing I was not crazy about is the chicken they use. It's clearly fajita chicken, makes me wonder if it isn't left from the previous day's service. Either way, I prefer my chicken cooked in the broth, again a preference. As a fellow Mexican I don't recommend this place at all, I'd rather go eat at Taco Cabana or even better Taco Bell for Mexican inspired food. At least they have more flavor than any food here. We ordered the stuffed jalapeños, they tasted like straight out of the freezer not fresh at all. The fajita was so dry, I ordered some shrimp that look like camarones endiablados and they might as well made them with ketchup because there was no flavor I'm not kidding it was that bad if anything the server was really nice and the place seemed really popular with the local folk, if you still want to try it out come early because when we left there was a huge line somehow.... It's a Monday night + football and MLK day, we were greeted and immediately seated. There's lots of staff and a fairly large restaurant. We got our chips and salsa quickly too and the waitress came to get our drink order. The salsa was fresh. I like that it was a very big bowl of salsa because we always run out at other places (ahem.. chilis) but we didn't run out this time! We decided to split the chicken quesadilla which was a good idea because we ended up taking two pieces home. I wanted the charro bean soup which was pretty hearty. My boyfriend got the small tortilla soup. I'd say service was 5/5. Food came out extremely quick! I'd say this place has a good value for food. Vegetarian Review: This is an excellent Mexican restaurant with plenty of vegetarian options. I was there on 8/24/23, and the place was cute, casual, and clean. We were provided with chips and salsa, and both were exceptional. I could not stop eating those chips! Our server, Leticia S., was friendly, helpful, and prompt. We loved her! When I told her that we were vegetarians, she made suggestions for items that we could order, and suggested modifications for other dishes. We ultimately ordered the spinach enchiladas, mushroom & onion enchiladas, cheese enchiladas with queso (not the gravy), bean & cheese nachos for kids, and a margarita on the rocks with salt. All of the food was fresh and arrived quickly. The spinach enchiladas were very good, but the cheese enchiladas were even better. The veggie quesadillas were also tasty and had a nice presentation. The refried beans were not a huge hit at our table, and I' m not really sure that they are vegetarian, so I recommend asking - which is what I should have done. The margarita was outstanding.
