We came here for Breakfast after a run. The restaurant was not busy on a Saturday morning. We got seated and got the drink order right away, however it took a while for the waitress to take our food order. We got the Mexican Omelette and the Chilaquiles. The one on arcade was a bit awkword, because I pointed to the Coke eign, but got a red beverage...food was great, but I wanted the coke. The menu clearly states at the top, with a big border around it that one can order extra items for a couple extra $. I chose to do so. They didn't bring the extras except some over salted, stone cold, watered down beans. They kept saying it didn't come with the meal. I know, I said, that's why I ordered it extra. I pointed it out on the menu to them. They still said "it does not come with the meal". I wonder what part of "I paid extra" do they not understand. They finally brought a small blob of guac. Eh. I ain't mad. Los Ocampo's food is pretty solid over. They offer a great selection of inexpensive Mexican food. I love their huge quesadilla thing (technically called Sincronizadas). I love their green salsa and their chips. Overall, the food is really good - not mind-blowing, but good. Almost always flavorful and well-cooked. Los Ocampo is generally just a great value. The boo and I can get out of there with our bellies full and lunch for the next day for under $20. I knocked a couple stars off for spotty service. The waitstaff is always friendly, but we have had a couple experiences of 30-40 minute waits. In other restaurants, that would be relatively standard but Mexican food is quick by nature. It seems a bit like this location has a slow kitchen. Despite the service, we still hit this place up when we have a craving for Mexican or we want to eat a bunch for not a lot of money. Came here on a Saturday night around 10, 10:15 at the latest, hours clearly stated they were open until 11. The doors were locked and the man behind the bar gestured for us to leave, then came to the door saying they had closed the kitchen because it had been a slow day so they would not serve us. I would understand if we had come in 10 minutes before close, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect service an hour before close on a SATURDAY night. The gentleman was nice and offered to let us come in and warm up and the menu looked fantastic, but we were not given the opportunity to try the food. A real shame. read more

Bad online ordering experience and not getting all my food. This is my fist time ordering and eating at Los Ocompos. I placed a large order online for a birthday party and my credit card emailed me declicing the charge due to possible fraud. I confirmed with my credit card company that it wasn't fraud then called the Los Ocompos to make sure they received my order. They said they don't have it. The online ordering is systematic and should show up on their end, if my credit card was declined it then I need to re- place the order. So, I did and called them again to confirm it went through. they said they still don't see it. this is more than 2 hours since I placed the order. I checked my credit card and was charged twice already. Los Ocompos said they don't know what website I was using but they don't have the order so can't fulfill it for me unless I order and pay. I asked for the manager. they said they'll talk to manager and call me back. the manager said the same thing. they just keep telling me they don't know who i ordered it from. I told them it's their websit, I don't know if they're using a 3rd, but I got confirmation emails and texted all from Los Ocompos. it was nearing the party time, so I placed my order over the phone and paid 3rd time. when I got the restaurant to pick up my order, they said the order was through DoorDash and it just came to their system a little bit ago, but can't refund and I have to contact DoorDash. Such a hassle to order food. they don't even know the 3rd party their using for their website and in the end, I didn't get all my food too. I was missing 2 things! Went here for the first time on a very, very busy early Sunday morning after being out all Saturday night. The line was out the door when we arrived but moved fairly quickly and our order was taken in a decent amount of time. My friend had been here before so he ordered for me, a classic tacos with beef. Finding a place to sit required some maneuvering but we eventually grabbed a spot. Our food came in about 10 minutes afterwards which surprised me as I was half expecting it to take much longer. Everything was good, from the rice to the refried beans (which I don't usually care for), to the corn tortillas which had a slightly sweet aftertaste that had me going back for more. The only negative was that the bathroom was absolutely disgusting after a night of drunk women using it but I can't fault them for that. Overall I would definitely recommend Los Ocampos and would go back. read more

Not so hot Thursday night: I have been here in the past multiple times and thought I wrote a supportive review, but am unable to locate it. Anyway, the waitstaff are all different from previous visits. Perhaps a change in management? We were seated and then subsequently ignored by all waitstaff for 20 minutes. No drinks. No hello. Passed by one server 4 times and another 2 without a glance or "we'll be right with you." It was not busy and appeared as if the waitstaff to table ratio was 4:5 and multiple staff milling at the bar. The staff member who sat us wished us a nice day on the way out... in a manner that made me think she didn't even realize that she sat us. Very disappointing. read more

My reason for 1 star is because we didn't even get to eat. Went there at 9pm on a saturday night. Looked at the posted hours the restaurant was open. It says Saturday 10-11pm. I was like oh great we can still eat. Got inside a waiter looks at the time and tells us "sorry we're closed." Like REALLY? why do you have a sign of the hours you're open and not be open? You might as well not post them up at all. I even tried to check on the website before going and it says varies by location. We just happened to be closer to this one. I sat down at the counter and waited for 10 minutes - no one acknowledged me or brought me a menu, so I grabbed one myself. There was one other person at the counter, and the server checked in with him several times. I waited another 10 minutes, and still no one acknowledged me or took my order, so I left. Sorry to say but its not the place to be at. At least during the lunch hours. Had to pay $7 extra because shrimp is not the choice of meat if your are asked to choose one, and unfortunately our server did not feel like communicating that because he thought we looked "business professionals" and wouldn't need that information. I suppose he thought the same when he deliberately neglected to refill our glasses. Moreover, he thought we were the owners of the place and wouldn't bring the checks EVER!! Servers do have preferences on whom to serve first regardless of who came in first. Best part is our server thought that we wouldn't need our sides of soup and salad!! Needless to say who cares about the choice of beans?? DO YOU?? I think the staff is preparing to scare people away because of the Halloween season and I really enjoyed every bit of that scare. This place is great! Really great flavors and wonderful salsas. We love their nachos and burritos. But they have many flavorful items. I traveled all over New Mexico and finally found good Mexican food in St. Paul, Minnesota. The story of my life, I guess. The food is outstanding, the service is excellent (especially from Karmeletta, who won the trifecta by delivering water, extra napkins and hot sauce with mind-reading speed and accuracy). If I could give a negative star I would. I have never been disrespected in a restaurant until 30min ago. My partner and I sat and watched 4 parties after us get served, drinks and all. And not one person thought to approach us and take our order. After 10-15 minutes of waiting and NO service I had to call over someone to over and ask "are we invisible?" Of course the so called "manager" came after she took her sweet time. And all she could say is "we are busy, I'm sorry". Like no no no you don't understand, people came in after us sitting right next to us have been served drinks and have food coming in about 5minutes and we still HAVE NOT been served. And all you could do is say I'm sorry and we are busy. No you weren't busy until people came in after us. She obviously didn't understand but she stated the owner will be there tomorrow around noon so we will be there at 11:45 waiting for him/her. Playing ignorant is NOT ok, you clean the table off for us, then don't take our order and ignore us. Unacceptable I do not take discrimination lightly and I cannot wait to talk to the owner tomorrow.
