Visited on 4th of July long weekend. The town was very busy but they were able to sit 11 of us on the patio fairly quickly. One of my favorite local restaurants. Though the menu is a typical selection of Mexican dishes that appeal to a northern Wisconsin audience, they are always well prepared, tasty, and for those who want a bit more heat, each table has a good selection of hot sauces to spice it up. Ok I guess I don't learn. So I have this place a second chance. I did order the same thing because I noticed on the menu they now serve 2 peppers and before it was just one small one. Well, it had so much soft cheese it was making me sick. I scraped out what I could which left very little pepper and a whole lot of thick soft breading. These were definitely not good. Again the refried beans and rice were good but that's hard to mess up. The place was packed and I had an entire booth to myself and it took about 30 minutes to get the check . I put the amount of the bill and too in cash on the table and waited. I finally just left the money on the table and left. The. Service was very slow but like I said it was very busy. The Margarita had very little alcohol in it. I had 2 and felt nothing. So...bottom line is I will not return and I don't recommend it either. read more

Really had to update my review here Came here a year ago and really liked it but this time around everyone in my group was so pleased with their food. I have to concur. My fajitas were amazing ! And I have to say it was probably the best Mexican rice I've ever had! They have an extensive menu with almost any dish that you could think of, but limited standard fair as well Pretty authentic place where everything is spectacular! If you like your Guacamole with visible elements, order the Chunky Guacamole. All fresh ingredients that are quite good. I had Taquitos on this visit with flour vs corn tortillas filled with shredded pork. My sister the Quesadilla Blanca with Steak. It was great and they made it without the green pepper. It wasn't a premade mix that automatically gave you peppers. Chuy and Loritha, good job and great service. Didn't have it this time but the house margaritas are very good. read more

Going downhill fast. Average service, food quality and taste has gone down in the past six months. No cheese on nachos (whoops!) and a the end cut of a head of lettuce buried under the the cheese less nachos. read more

We are back to Portales. Not disappointed at all. It got better. We had Lime Margaritas delicious. Hubby had chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. Clean the plate it was Good. I had the chicken and steaks fajitas. And it was marvelous. They told me that they are open all year round. I do recommend Portales. Very nice people work here. Very attentive. Also, on your birthday they will put a sombrero. It was not my birthday but a table was celebrating a birthday. Clean facilities and nice decorations!! read more

We have been to this restaurant twice this year. Overall-no bueno, sorry to say. Both visits featured about a 45 minute wait for food. Okay, but a table of 8 which arrived after our table of 2 was served first. What? We ordered upon arrival a serving of guacamole to go with the initial basket of chips as an appetizer. It showed up with the meal. Ok, boohoo you say. Fine, however the avocado in it was as hard as an apple and inedible. This just shows that the kitchen does not care. I will not return. read more

Best place for authentic Mexican food in Minocqua. Great fajitas and the service is prompt and friendly. Don't bother going anywhere else. You can enjoy your meal with a margarita and watch a soccer game on the mounted TVs. It is also right downtown. read more

A very enjoyable dining experience! First, the wait staff is very upbeat and enjoyable, great first and lasting impression. Chips and salsa were very tasty...always a good measure of what's to come. LEGIT...Fantastic waitstaff and I was greeted by waiter "Hello Amigo". Menu is huge and many selections in every category. I will definitely make my way through this menu! Super Clean with ambience. And, as a Latina from Southern California, I have found it virtually impossible to find an authentic Mexican restaurant in this area...until now. We happened upon this modest, yet comfortable restaurant this afternoon and can honestly say we loved everything about it! this was simply the worst service i've ever had in my entire life. i've never been to a restaurant and thought that a $0 tip was ever acceptable until now. i wait an hour for food and during that time got checked up on ONE TIME, to the point where i needed to walk up to the check out counter and ask for refills. ordered 3 chicken street tacos and the chicken to cilantro ratio was 1:4 it was unreal. once our food came, my table was left to share a napkin to wipe our hands because when we asked for it, we were only given one and nobody has came back to check on us and how our food is. i will never be coming back to this place and do not recommend to anyone. read more
