We absolutely loved the service, ambiance, and food so much that we ate at Agave Azul twice during the week we were on vacation in May of 20025 in Eagle River. Arturo is our guy!!!! If he can't do it, no one can! This restaurant was above and beyond what we expected from a small Mexican restaurant in northern wisconsin! The food was excellent, good flavors, hot, and truly authentic! They are low on staff so it's a little slow but that's not their fault, everyone is looking for staff! The BESTTTTT Mexican restaurant you will find in all of vilas county!!! Do not pass up on this side of the road restaurant, it may look weird on the outside but inside is renovated and clean. The server was very nice and food came out quick! I got the Plato locos which is chicken, steak and shrimp fajitas with a side of their delicious rice and beans and flour tortillas - the best part was the white cheese sauce that you pour over the fajita. Other dishes that was ordered and had good responses were the Chile Colorado and burrito Chicago. Whatever you get..make sure you get something with their white cheese sauce because I could of literally drank that out of the ramekin and a side of their rice and beans because it was the best rice and beans I've ever had. I came to leave a review and was surprised to see so many negative reviews. However, those are from 2020 and earlier. I'm guessing there was a change in management. Have been here several times over the past few years. Staff has been friendly and attentive. Food has been excellent every single time. No extra charges for picking up my food. Tasty fajitas. Sweet margaritas with a long list of tequilas to pick from. Unfortunately we had pretty poor service, but the food was still good. The cheese dip has great flavor, but is the consistency of milk. Salsa tastes more like plain tomato sauce and had no spice or cilantro flavor. Chicken fajitas were cooked perfectly and had good flavor. They had a good portion of meat and veggies. Pollo bandido was delicious and had plenty of cheese sauce to cover the chicken. read more

A small little Mexican joint that on the outside doesn't really stand out, but a tourist mentioned the place so i decided to give it a shot. The inside is colorful, more of a family type of restaurant. Has a Mexican bar which provided you a variety of choices to choose from as far as the tequila. Margaritas are decent and large. Complimentary chips and salsa. Okay for complimentary. The steak tacos aren't seasoned and the chicken burrito only had chicken on the inside and that was it. I think for a Mexican joint for a small town with not many Mexican restaurant choices it's okay, but for tourist who are around more authentic Mexican restaurants by them, this isn't a place they would rave about. read more

First time and last time trying this awful restaurant. My family and I are avid Mexican food eaters, and were beyond disappointed with this establishment. We paid $80 for 5 meals, and 4 of the 5 meals were incorrect. There was an extra charge just to go pick up our order. When we arrived, it took 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge our prescense. When we went back to address the problem of our food being wrong, the staff were completely disrespectful with hesistance to provide the correct order that was already paid for. They did not even provide the beans that were ordered, and they claimed an enchilada was a burrito. There chips were completely stale. When asked for the bartender, 3 different staff claimed he was too busy in the kitchen to help. The worst customer service I have ever seen. Highly recommend not wasting your money or your time!!! read more

I have eaten at Mexican restaurants in California, Texas, Arizona and Illinois (meh) and all points in between. This place is easily in the top 5. The green tomatillo sauce is flavorful with a nice low heat to it. My husband had the pork tacos. I don't eat pork, but tried a very small bite. It was amazing! Juicy and the flavor was robust. We went after the "season" and early. Service was great. Did not have room for dessert but it sounded delicious. Churros with a tequila sauce. There is also a margarita bar, but we did not indulge this time. Left full and satisfied! Definitely will return. read more

My mom and I went there one night to eat and they only had one section of the restaurant open, it took way too long to put our order in, they took to long to get us chips and drinks, the food was very poor they had flies hovering over the food. Minocqua locals recommended Agave Azul, so we took a drive and made a visit. I believe I told this was the former "Penalty Box". The artwork and booths are decorative and festive. Our server was attentive and efficient, getting our Margarita order quickly and serving them with warm chips and peppery salsa. Our meals were delicious - she commented that the shrimp were done perfectly. I had a chicken burrito with guac and other fixings - it was good. Prices were reasonable. If you are looking for real Mexico food don't bother. This place is not good. The food is salty and that's the only flavor, really. Our initial waitress was horrid. I felt as if I was a bother being there. Terrible service from this old waitress, I think she was the oldest one there , grey hair etc... I complained to the host who felt so bad he took our order!! I am sad to give this place a one star it's only for effort. We walked in and they only had a limited menu with an aray of maybe 10 different dishes at the most. The food does not even taste Mexican, there is no flavor in any of the food and even the salsa. We waited a long time for our food, a lot longer than you would think for such a limited menu. We were barely waited on and they didn't even ask if the food was good or if we needed some refills. The place used to be spectacular for such a small city, but now it has lost its touch. I got the P5 I believe, which included a burrito, refried beans, and a hardshell taco for about $8. Food was just okay. The minced beef in the burrito and taco was lacking in seasoning.
