    Torta, sope, coctel de camarones.
    Jeff Y.

We were recommended Taqueria La Mexicana and decided to try it out. We found nearby street parking then placed our order at the window (cash only, there is an ATM indoors if needed). We then entered into the covered table area to grab a seat and wait for our food. We ordered two tortas, coctel de camarones, and a sope. The had horchata but all the rest of the drinks were canned/bottled. Prices were moderate. As for the food, everything was authentic and tasty, though I wish they had cuts like tripa. Overall, no complaints for a no-frills Mexican meal.

Cali burrito, was really good and I'm glad I ordered it

Tried coming to eat here last week but was unable to because they only take cash. Came back today prepared and ordered myself the cali burrito for the fair price of 11.50$. The guy at the ordering window was real cool. After ordering, we sat in the small patio area they have over by the pickup window. What I liked about this patio area is how there is a fence up to block out the sun and the sounds and winds from the passing traffic since it is right next to the street. My food was ready in less than ten minutes. I enjoyed every last bite of my burrito while alternating between the red and green salsas they gave me. The seasoned and tender carne asada was what stood out to me the most. It tastes different from most of the carne asada I have tried at other Mexican joints. Also, it was the perfect balance of fries, sour cream and meat. I am not the biggest sour cream fan to be honest, but I really enjoyed it this time around. Happy I had the opportunity to eat here today. I would definitely come back to eat this burrito again!

I stopped by here couple time before for burritos and it's delicious and cheap price several year ago. Drove by and on the tacos mission for the day so stopped by and only get tacos. Still same old place, cash only, great friendly folks, reasonable prices, fast service . The seating area is sort of in the hallway/alley like right infront of the ordering area and its outdoor. Nice, cozy and clean. Tacos are good & tasty. Really enjoyed the foods overall.

Who knew that my car came equipped with a "Cali Burrito Holder"?

If you're looking for the ultimate Cali burrito experience, Taqueria La Mexicana is where it's at. I've had my fair share of burritos, and this place seriously knocks it out of the park every single time. Their Cali burrito is next-level--perfectly grilled, stuffed to the brim, and packed with flavor. The carne asada is always juicy and tender, and the fries inside? Crispy and golden, not soggy like at some other spots. Add in the melty cheese and sour cream and it's a total flavor bomb. The vibe is super chill, and the staff is friendly. If you're a Cali burrito fan or just love Mexican food done right--this is the place to go. 10/10, highly recommend!

Delicious and meaty street tacos! $2.50 ea for a la carte orders
    Tiffany Y.

I love me some delicious street tacos and this spot is no exception. Right off the corner of 4th street in a mostly residential area, it's an unassuming spot with no frills that knows flavor! Service is quick as you order at the counter facing the street, then you can go and wait in their semi-indoor space to pick up your order. I got three tacos (no plate, just a la carte) for $2.50 ea: lengua, al pastor, and asada. Lengua (tongue) is always my favorite but can be rare to find, so I was super happy to find this here! Also they didn't charge extra for them - win! The lengua taco was perfect, and the sauces made it extra flavorful. Al Pastor and Asada were both tasty as well. I could keep using their red sauce as it had a little sweetness and smokiness to its spice. I'd definitely come back again - and just remember to bring cash!

    Bottled horchata, delicious

I've been coming here for 9 years and it never disappoints. They're fast, the food is always presented well, tastes fresh and overall delicious. I love classic Mexican food, and the prices have stayed pretty much the same! You can't say that for a lot of places! I got the 3 taco plate with rice and beans. Delicious. Fresh shredded chicken, beans and rice tasted good. I got a horchata, which comes bottled now, and it's the real deal cinnamon and sugar thing. Really glad this place is still here and hope it's here for a long, long time. Heads up It's cash only but they have an ATM :) They have an indoor shaded seating area with several tables and chairs decorated with local stickers giving it a good neighborhood vibe. Thanks guys! Will be back soon.

Cali Burrito and Carne Asada Fries
    Mellanie A.

I repaid a visit to one of Long Beach's best hole in the walls that serves Mexican food; Taqueria La Mexicana. This visit I decided to opt for their Asada Fries which is fairly priced at around $13. My boyfriend ordered his usual Cali Burrito which is ultimately the same ordeal wrapped in a tortilla ( minus the guac). I placed a phone order and waited about 15 minutes to which I paid for my order at their little window and received my food, here's my take: Upon opening my box I was surprised at the hefty portion of asada fries which could easily be shared between two hungry individuals. The asada fries were honestly on point!! The carne asada this visit was a little saltier than usual but the overall flavor of all the condiments combined was delicious and tasted authentic for Mexican cuisine standards. I love asada fries and La Taqueria Mexicana serves up some bomb asada fries! I should note this establishment is cash only and although they have a small seating area with about two tables it's mostly a grab and go type of place. All in all I recommend La Taqueria Mexicana to anyone in the area looking for some good Mexican food. Give their asada fries a shot and support your local businesses! :)

Parking is a bit of a game of chance thanks to the tiny lot, so plan accordingly. Once you're inside though, the restaurant is super clean, modern, and the service is fast and attentive. We started with the papaya salad. It was just okay--I'm still trying to figure out why there was a blanket of romaine lettuce casually lounging on top. I ordered medium spice, which turned out to be "medium if you breathe fire for fun." The papaya was also a little more raw than I personally like. The tom kha soup was decent, but the real MVP was the drunken noodles with beef. Those noodles were absolutely swimming in savory goodness and perfectly soft. I would've happily ordered a second plate and called it "dessert." Overall, I'd definitely come back--mostly because those drunken noodles are already living rent-free in my head.

I came across this place on TikTok because of their famous Thai tea popsicle, so naturally I had high hopes. First off, we got incredibly lucky with parking. I can definitely see how parking could be a nightmare since the lot is tiny, so consider finding a spot part of the dining experience. When we arrived, the inside was cute and seemed clean. We were seated outside, which also looked nice at first glance, but I noticed quite a few spider webs around the windows. My boyfriend even felt webs brushing against his arm while we were sitting there, which wasn't exactly the extra ambiance we were expecting. We ordered quite a bit: spicy Pad Thai, Bang Bang Shrimp, Pad See Ew, mango sticky rice, and of course the Thai tea with the popsicle. I'll give credit where it's due. The Bang Bang Shrimp was easily the best thing we ordered and was absolutely delicious. The Thai tea popsicle also lived up to the TikTok hype, although the actual Thai tea itself was on the sweeter side. If you love sugar, you'll probably enjoy it. My biggest complaint with the food was the spicy Pad Thai. The flavor was great, but it came with what felt like a whole chicken farm and a cameo appearance from the noodles. I ordered Pad Thai, not chicken with noodle garnish. The Pad See Ew was also noticeably salty. Now you're probably wondering why I'm giving this place a low rating if most of the food was decent. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the meal. When it was time to pay, my aunt was figuring out how much everyone needed to Zelle her since the restaurant only allows a maximum of two cards for split payments. While we were trying to do the math, our waiter stood over us watching the payment screen like he was supervising a final exam. He was clearly waiting to make sure a tip was entered. My aunt politely asked him to give us a minute, and thankfully he walked away. Maybe when you see a family actively calculating a bill, that's your cue to...actually give them a minute. Keep in mind we also tipped 20% despite all this. Throughout the meal, he did stop by our table, but it rarely felt like he was checking in to make sure everything was okay. If anything I felt rushed. He also gave off that "customer service smile" that disappears the moment you stop looking. The cherry on top for me happened as we were leaving. We had been sitting on the outdoor patio talking for a bit after paying, which is pretty normal for my family. Before leaving, I went inside to ask where the restroom was. The guy and girl behind the bar looked at each other, laughed, and then asked if I was a paying customer. Keep in mind, I was literally holding a to-go bag with leftovers from the restaurant. I responded, "Yeah, I just finished eating," while holding up the bag that made it painfully obvious. Only then did they tell me where the restroom was. Nothing says "valued customer" quite like being interrogated about whether you actually ate there while carrying your leftovers. It's unfortunate because the food had some highlights, and the restaurant itself has a cute atmosphere. But the service made it feel like customers are viewed more as transactions than guests. Between hovering over us during payment and questioning whether I even belonged there after spending money, I left feeling more unwelcomed than satisfied. I'll happily support a restaurant that appreciates my business instead of making me feel like I have to prove I earned the right to use the restroom after paying for dinner.

First off, street parking can be a challenge, but we were able to find a spot right away. It is a very small restaurant, but kudos to the owners and architect who made really good use of the space. When you walk in, it is transformed, and you feel like you are in a whole different environment. The decor, the lighting, the layout, the furniture make this place spectacular and great photo ops. They have a huge TV for watching sports especially the World Cup, which was playing when we got there. They have a bar area. We got there right when they opened so I think the waiter was still setting things up, but was super friendly to us. The manager arrived and helped us since the waiter was still setting up. The manager, Carlos, was extremely friendly and helpful. And another couple walked in to eat, and they were attended to very quickly by the manager as well. We asked for ceviche, although we know they had just opened and breakfast was being served, however they were more than accommodating to get us ceviche. Even the tableware matched everything about this restaurant. I enjoyed the wood piece table wear and the set up. To start, we were brought tostadas. It looked like a couple of them may have been made with nopale, they were green. They included a roasted mild salsa with the tostadas. The presentation of the ceviche was stunning! They gave us a small jar of their salsa macha, which is an oil based red seed chili. It's amazing on everything, but especially on top of the ceviche. The portion was generous. They also gave us more tostadas and crackers. They also have unique desserts, I think I've read they make their ice cream in house and they had flavors like beet and avocado. Definitely need to try the next time I return. I highly recommend this place. I cannot wait to return to try their breakfast and other entrees. It's going to be hard not to order the ceviche as well because it's gotta be the best in the area. Definitely a new fave spot!

The oysters were fresh, fish and chips were really good (I just realized it's their most popular dish, no wonder!), and the crunchy roll bowl is like a tempura sushi roll in a bowl. For starters, we got the Parker House Rolls, which comes with truffle butter, local citrus honey, and grana padano cheese. These rolls were so fluffy and flavorful. We also ordered the hummus, which was so rich and creamy, and the oysters from the raw bar. For the main, we ordered the Smoked & Glazed Pork Chop, Fish & Chips, and the Wedge salad to share. And let me tell you, that everything was so good. The Smoked & Glazed Pork Chop came with a whole show, where staff would bring out the dish in a smoke-infused glass dome and open the dome when presented on the table so we can smell and see all the smoke. Not only was it beautiful to look at, but it tasted just as beautifully. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the rainbow swiss chard, cheddar grits, candied pecans, and avocado honey helped balance out all the juiciness from the meat. They use haddock fillet for the Fish & Chips, which was fried to perfection. The Wedge Salad is what actually knocked my socks off! This was one of the best wedge salads that I've ever had. It had your key ingredients: iceberg, buttermilk dressing, red onion, crumbled egg, tomato, bacon gastrique, blue cheese, dill, chives - but something about this salad was different! It was so refreshing, flavorful--just everything you want in a dish. We ended the dining experience with their Peach Cobbler Hand Pie, which came with streusel, pistachio crumble, salted caramel, and vanilla ice cream. Can't wait to go back when I'm in the area!

He immediately complied and proceeded to then antagonize him by telling him people eat there. He said yes I understand and got off. She proceeded to turn back MULTIPLE times to keep going. She then said you and your party can get out or I can call the cops. When I asked the clear manager in his outfit, requesting who the fake GM was, he along with the Bartender on shift played stupid as to supply her name. Margarita clearly was not a GM but felt that she needed to keep creating an unnecessary situation. The situation was already de escalated when he complied with what she asked. Do better with your staffing saint and second.

The neighborhood and mini mall appeared questionable, but once we were inside it was awesome. The restaurant was clean and the service was so friendly. They helped us order and explained the dishes. The food was outstanding. We tried the lobster bisque, the clam chowder, chicken wings, lobster pasta, lobster rolls - all were excellent, but our favorite item of the night was a lobster grilled cheese with tomato soup for dipping. There was a pre-fixe special and we had a feast for a comparatively small amount. Thanks Lobster Guys, for a memorable meal!

When I think of the word lobster, I think of upscale large room, ambience and clinking glasses. This restaurant was small, there was ambience, there was music, and from the time I walked through the front door I was met with a smile, and extreme hospitality! I took a look at the menu which is presented on the wall by the counter where you order, and all I saw was absolutely loveliness! Of all the things I could have chose, I decided to have an elevated Grilled Cheese Sandwich that included chunks of lobster! I know that seems like a very strange thing to order in a restaurant that presents lobster and shrimp in so many delectable ways, but I am all about an elevated grilled cheese sandwich! Show me what you can do!! This dish comes with a beautiful cup of tomato soup. First let me tell you the place is impeccably clean which got a star from me right away! Secondly the music was real real cool in the background jazz type of music which I absolutely love. The art the presentation of the place was really cool it was not too young and not too old it's a place where anyone any age could come and really enjoy a perfectly cooked meal, in a room that literally sings to you both audibly and visibly! My food was delicious and the next time I go my intention is to try their shrimp roll. Oh excuse me let me correct myself, it is a Cajun Shrimp Roll Sandwich!
