This place might have the best fish tacos in Bakersfield! I was introduced to Los Tacos de Huicho by a group of friends that would come here late into the night when their cravings hit. Los Tacos de Huicho was always the thing that hit the spot. I've been coming ever since. It feels like a hole in the wall spot; a bit out of the way from the downtown area, but it's definitely a hidden gem. Dining is a straightforward process. You walk up to the counter, pick your meat of choice (they have so many options!!) and how you'd like it (as a taco, burrito, etc.). Like I said, their fish tacos are the way to go, but I make sure to order an assortment to keep it interesting. They give you a receipt and will call your number. Seating is spacious with plenty of seating inside & outside in their beautiful patio area. Don't worry about missing your number being called. They have a speaker that goes to the patio area. When you get your tacos, if you're like me, you might want to load it up with all the toppings. And what's so awesome is that they have a toppings bar, so you can fill up your tacos with onions, cilantro, lemon, radishes, jalapeños, mild or hot sauce, etc. I always know I'm getting a great meal when I come here. New owners, I thought it would be better. Today I was in here to get a $13 asada burrito, and a couple of pastor tacos. Tacos were OK, the burrito was more than 50% white rice. Rice has got to be the cheapest item in the restaurant. Such a crappy burrito, there is not enough sauces available to make a 50% rice burrito decent. I was out on a Friday running errands on my day off and at 2pm I was hit with hunger, I was downtown thinking what could I stop to get for a snack? A pastry? Ugh lots of sugar. A coffee? Glad to be working back downtown! My favorite taco joint is still serving up that good ol' street tacos with the same taste as I remember them! Can't go wrong with Al pastor tacos and this place serves up the best in my book. Never mind the sketch location, Los Tacos De Huicho has a great open dining room with plenty of seats. I consider this one of the TOP OG taco spots in Bakersfield. They have been here for 35-40+ years and any they have been serving truly amazing and authentic Mexican food. My family has been coming here since then and the consistency has always been great. Just recently I stopped by for a couple tacos, a sope and some rice and beans. Menu is the same it has always been, great variety with really amazing prices. To top it off, the portions are HUGE here for the price. The star of the show for me has always been their fish tacos. They are battered and cooked to perfection and the flavor is AMAZING. The taco of chile verde was also great, so much flavor. Rice and beans tasted great and very authentic. The sope I also tried was also GREAT. I kid you not, everything I had was a 10 out of 10. Anthentic Mexican food at its finest. Overall, beyond pleased with my meal. I do feel like the tacos are reasonably priced, but not reasonably priced for what I received (asada & Al pastor tacos). The amount of meat on these tacos leaves me bothered along with the flavor and texture. When there are multiple bites with hard textured fat in the meat; I'm done. I can't eat it anymore. I'm grossed out. The salsas have great flavors which make me more sad they didn't have great meat to pair it with. My wife did enjoy her fish tacos and the flavor. Dropped in for a quick bite on a Saturday afternoon. Initially we were looking to eat downtown, but after impatiently searching for a spot elsewhere we settled on here. I have been here in the past but it's been years. We must've arrived at just the right time because shortly after ordering the line quickly grew. They offer a nice selection of meat, but at the same time I found it kind of strange that while they offer different types of meat that they also don't offer chicken. I went with a standard order of tacos of carne asada and tripas. The carne asada is kind of a different texture that I was used to. Instead of nicely diced bits of carne asada it was almost minced, very small bits but nevertheless good flavor. The tripas also had a good flavor but was very dry too. I'm not sure if the prices have changed significantly over the years but I don't remember it being so pricey, I would even say way overpriced. Almost 3$ a taco (which isn't unreasonable) but keep in mind these are mini street tacos that aren't even dressed. 3$ for meat and a tortilla I also ordered a carne asada burrito with no rice. This was a sad and deflated burrito. You would think for almost 10$ you could get full burrito. No, a loosely wrapped burrito that was clearly lacking contents to even fill it. The flavor is on point here but the price to quality / quantity food ratio here is way off. Beware when you pay. It seems a bit shady of a business to offer the option of ApplePay without telling customers they will be charged extra to use it. read more

We ordered at the register and sat down since we were dining in, but when our food was ready, instead of bringing it to our table, the employee just called out "your food is ready," so we had to grab it ourselves. My food was served on a paper plate, and when I asked for a to-go container (since the portions were generous), I was told they don't use boxes--only clear plastic bags. Extremely disappointed. I ordered a torta that was almost all bread and lettuce. There was barely any meat, and it was so dry I had to take half the bread off just to be able to eat it. My partner ordered a wet burrito, but it seemed more like an enchilada than what we expected. We also tried the cabeza tacos, and they were very skimpy. It felt like there was more tortilla than meat. We enjoy trying different places and know what good quality and flavor should taste like. Unfortunately, the flavor just wasn't there. The food is great but they need to add napkin dispensers on the tables, not just a stack next to the register that you need to grab yourself. The salsa station is in the wrong place between the door and the ordering counter. They also don't have small plastic containers for the salsa, you have to just pour your salsa on your food after you've picked it up, and go back with your plate if you need more. read more

This turned out to be quite a disappointment, maybe I ordered the wrong thing but they weren't the Baja-style fish tacos like the ones in Mexico or Los Angeles... just tasteless fried fish with cabbage.
