Stopped in Tios last night and had a good meal. The service was less than stellar. I had to go find a waitress to finally order. The fajitas were good but weren't spiced very well. The tortillas were sort of homemade but not the best. The cheesy puff thing was interesting. It was best when filled and dressed with options. Their picadillo was very good and topped a tostada nicely. Fresh jalapeños for the win. Simple and good. Not spectacular though. read more

Really enjoyed this place! When we come back to Houston, we will be coming back here! The service was great and everyone was polite and friendly. . Nobody yelled at those children. Those children are not used to hearing the word no, I'm sorry that y'all are such awful parents that you do not care that you cannot even see your children and they were running around going into the parking lot where they could've gotten kidnapped hurt or God knows what , we are in Houston, you know the city with highest trafficking rate??? you were irresponsible and the way you treated us as customers was disgusting. Looking for good Mexican food and with all the reviews here we found our selves sitting at Los Tios. The bar was busy but the restaurant wasn't. The gentleman who sat us was very kind. I ordered a quesadilla with spinach and mushrooms but asked for the spinach to be removed. They did and it reminded me of another place I use to go to get my favorite quesadilla. One of my favorites for Tex-Mex in Houston! First, the decor and inside is nicely decorated. The bar area is really nice and a great place for HH. The food is awesome! Love the chips and salsa! They have some great deals for both lunch and dinner. The quest puff is my favorite :). Or if you are really hungry they have some great bigger combo plates and some amazing fajitas. Well...If your looking for bland Mexican food come here. Guacamole was seriously smashed avacado. There was some onion but no flavor. Be careful ordering queso as it is Just melted cheese. Clearly we forgot to say chili con queso...I guess Puffy taco was great; especially the fajita meat, and nachos were good. Eat fast as chips got soggy quick. Atmosphere was nice. Dearest Reader --- I write with splendid news. It appears as though another Los Tios is once again near my homestead. As a young boy I enjoyed dining at the Sugar Land location, so it was a welcome surprise to discover. I must confess that I am an El Tiempo diehard, yet I have enjoyed my last 10 Mexican meals here. Golden tacos are amazing, the hard taco shell and picadillo-esque ground beef are a match made in heaven. The build your own puff taco is a very clever play on the classic dish. I can't believe I have not been here yet! I was obsessed with all the food I tried. Their red salsa is my favorite in the city thus far! Our server and the Melina (sp?) were so friendly and provided great service. Very open and airy space, looks like a good spot for group lunches. I randomly decided to go here with my family during a visit- we looked at reviews online but had no idea how good this place would be. The service was phenomenal! My family is usually hard to please when it comes to service but our server had my whole extended family so happy the entire time. Ooo weee, this place is finger licking good. I have had the good chance to try their brunch and dinner menu and I can say that they are magnificent. This has become one of my go to TexMex places downtown. I recommend getting the enchiladas with an egg on top and washing it down with a flight of their margaritas. The servers here are super nice and have lots of recommendations if you are looking to try something new. The vibe is killer whether you are out on the patio or inside. Everyone has big smiles on as they enjoy reasonably priced awesome drinks. read more

Los Tios is one of those perfect Tex-Mex spots for sublime food and great drinks in a relaxed but elevated environment. Part of a local chain, this location features great decor and plenty of room to stretch out, with its gorgeous wrap around bar and covered patio being highlights. We visited for a weekday lunch and were seated at a perfect secluded spot on the patio. After delighting in a couple of delicious margaritas and chips with yellow queso and salsa, we tucked into our entrees- cheese enchiladas for her and spinach enchiladas for me. The highlight, however, might have been the puffy queso, a classic Texas staple that seems to have disappeared from a lot of menus in recent years. The whole experience made for a perfect and classic Tex-Mex lunch that really feeds the soul. read more

My family and I love Los Tios. We usually go on Friday's for happy hour. They have two separate bar areas. The margarita's are delicious. Only reason I'm going at a 3 star rating overall is because when we were done eating my server started sweeping under tables around us. She swept so much I could see crumbs and straw wrappers coming towards my table. Wow wow wow, 5 stars for Los Tios. I'm from Los Angeles and very picky about my Mexican cuisine, and this was outstanding. Service was excellent from beginning to end during a busy lunch rush. The outdoor covered air conditioned patio is absolutely brilliant for Houston and I'm in love. Love the two choices of complementary salsas and both were delicious. Frozen margarita was excellent and strong. We enjoyed the small queso. My fresh fish tacos with avocado and homemade tortillas was so so so good. It's just always so good to have fresh tortillas!! Wish we could give half stars! Solid 3.5. The margaritas for only $5 were the highlight of the dinner! The fish tacos were interesting. The combination of fish, raspberry, cilantro, etc. was a little difficult to get on board with. The service was attentive, but we felt rushed at times when we just wanted to sip and enjoy the food/company. We probably won't be back, but it's a solid option for a Mexican dinner and scratches the itch. read more

I'm torn on this because the drinks and chips were good but the service from the start left such a bad taste in our mouth that we didn't stay for long. When my wife and I came in, we made a request for the patio. We were told it would be 10-15 minutes, which was fine. After 20 minutes we asked how much longer the wait would be, to which we were informed that somehow our name had been removed. We ultimately had to wait over 45 minutes to be seated. I understand things get busy, but to lose a reservation, then have people wait more than triple the amount of time they were originally told is ridiculous. The drinks from the bar helped ease the wait, but by the time we were seated, we were so annoyed with the whole thing that we ended up just ordering an appetizer and leaving after that. read more

Houston has some of the greatest Mexican food in the world, and for me Tex-Mex never compares. But of course it is beloved by some Houstonians, plenty of Texans and lots of tourists, and as far as Tex Mex goes, Candente (where I've only eaten 3 times) is around average. A little higher priced and higher end than some of the busier and more well known local chains, but similar in quality and bland taste. The Fajitas are my fave thing on the menu, but nothing to write home about. The reason I took off a star (was going to give 3) is because of some personal issues I have with them. When picking up an order here, you get a notification to say, come to the store. That happens to me when I pick up take out in a lot of places, these days, and when I do, it is either ready, or it takes 5 more min or 10 more min (because they mark it ready when it is not. Generally I'm okay with it, if it's less than 10 min. Candente? 20 min or 30 min. Even when it's not busy. They'll mark orders as ready (to make themselves look efficient I imagine) even when they are completely dead, and then will not actually start cooking the order until you get there to pick it up (I know, because I see people come in at the same time I'm there to pick up, order a similar thing, and 20-30 min theirs and mine comes out at a similar time). So just frustrating, is all. The owner is a Texan guy from Kingwood, he also owns the Pit Room BBQ nearby, which is similarly very fancy and successful. Don't let my bad experiences here put you off from trying it. If you want a list of real Mexican gems (and mostly dirt cheap), ask me, but you won't find any Tex Mex on there at all, to be honest. Just not my thing, in the same way that I think American Chinese take away has nothing on Chinese Chinese, such as Sichuan or Xi'an or Hunan cooking.

We mentioned where we were planning to go to some of the staff members and they said do not go there and that it was too expensive for the type of Mexican food that they serve you. Then they all suggested Maria Rita's. My wife and I had never heard of it before so we asked where it was and it was located 2min down the street. When we got there it was packed, but we decided to thug it out and wait for a table, this also gave us time to troll the parking lot and land a killer parking spot as people left. We finally got the notice that our table was ready. The inside was clean, awesome and had a savory aroma mixed with a Smokey grill Oder that just made us even more hungry than we already were. We both ordered this dish that came with fajitas and bacon wrapped shrimp with a cheese sauce that was Truly Amazing! When I finally was able to take a bite of one of the four gigantic shrimp after I completely destroyed my fajitas, I thought that I was going to pass out from the ecstasy that the flavor profile from that shrimp that overwhelmed my senses! We both enjoyed our meal,(obviously) and I can't end this review without mentioning how attentive, nice and unexpected table side manor that the staff had displayed despite being overwhelmed with a full house crowd. A truly epic experience. Please dig deep for a tip, they deserve it. Enjoy!!

I also watched countless parties walking in and just going to seat themselves in the bar area which I had asked about numerous times and was told no, that it was not self seating so we had to wait. Also watched many parties say they were a party of four and then have 8+ people and need a second table and it was accommodated. A big wow, I'm irritated moment was when a group of our own friends got seated before us and I had texted them 10 minutes after we got here telling them it was only a 45 minute line and then they had to walk here, putting them here at least 30 minutes after we were and they got seated long before us. At this point, I talked to the general manager about it and he told me he would go find out what was happening, but also told me that most of the tables in the restaurant we were set for large parties so because we were a small party we had to wait. He also admitted that many parties had joined together and had not notified the staff until being seated so that was pushing us back. I asked him how that was fair and shouldn't they be moved to the back of the line or denied the second table since people had been waiting literal hours for those tables? He told me he would be right back after he checked and of course he never came back. This conversation really made me watch even more that And I saw that tables that had already gotten their food were calling over friends from the cheer competition that they knew and then asking the they could grab the empty small tables near them and they were being told yes. So in essence, the manager was correct.... the big tables were unavailable to us because we are only a party of three and the small tables were also unavailable to us because they were allowing big parties to grab the small tables and bump all of us down. I heard it countless servers complained that people had just gotten in our station and were told just to serve them anyways. After waiting an hour and 45 minutes, we asked again and even though it had been a full hour since I last asked and were told that we were fifth in line they said there were four people in front of us... so it essentially meant that we hadn't moved up at all in placement . I finally spoke to another man who seated us within 10 minutes and told us that we would be able to order fast so we could be in and out of here in less than an hour.... Yet we saw another 20 minutes before anyone even came by our table. The food was decent at best. Lack of flavor was a big issue. Not worth the wait at all. Our waiter was nice which was good since everyone else was incredibly rude. One member of our party got something else rather than what she ordered and we did not have time to correct it however were shocked when we saw the price was over double than what she had actually ordered. The cheese enchiladas have meat in the sauce which defeats the purpose and when I had asked about vegetarian options when I got there, the cheese enchiladas were recommended and the vegetarian in our party ended up not being able to eat after waiting over 2 hours. Our fault for not waiting for menus since we were going to be VERY late, but why a staff member recommended it as vegetarian is beyond me... staff should either be familiar with the menu or say they do not know as allergies and things like being a vegetarian are non negotiable when it comes to food. Prices were super high for what we got. Got WAY more food for less at Ninfas and their food was a billion times better.

Migas: Scrambled eggs with tortilla chips and cheese, choice of chicken versus chorizo on top, finished with fresh avocado. I really enjoyed this combination and the generous portion for the price. The eggs are well scrambled without being dry, and the pairing with cheese is proportional. The chicken was a touch dry, but some salsa solved that well. I enjoyed stuffing each component into a fresh tortilla and devouring it as a breakfast taco. Refried beans and rice: Really delicious. The refried beans are of the smoother variety without as much chunkiness, which I prefer, and topped with creamy cheese. I could have used a touch more tomato in the rice, but overall enjoyed the texture and flavor. Patatas with salsa roja, topped with egg: I enjoyed the flavors in this dish, but there was sooo much salsa. The potatoes were thus a little soggy, though still cooked well. The over medium egg was cooked nicely and complemented the potatoes with creamy yolk. Bacon: Really generous portion for $7 as a side, and cooked well. Crispy potatoes: I enjoy that these are fingerling potatoes smashed and roasted, but they could be crispier. They seem to be on the blander side on purpose to allow seasoning to taste, and I really like pairing them with the red bottled salsa provided at each table (probably due to their association with ketchup). Hotcakes: The literal star of every brunch, these hotcakes are consistently delicious. They're massive yet somehow cooked perfectly through so that they're fluffy and soft on the inside and just with a slight crunch on the outside. The pairing of the creamy warm (!!!) maple syrup is heavenly. Because of how huge these are, usually one is enough to share between two people, although they also come in stacks of two and three. For reference, we finished 3/4 of three between four healthy and hungry people and it wasn't for lack of trying. Whenever I crave weekend brunch, Superica is always a top option.

We did just that, ordered half steak half chicken. Most places however sell it by the pound, here it seemed you only got one option and it came with one side of rice and beans. Everywhere else I've ordered these, they serve it family style. Usually everyone at your table gets their own rice and beans. No here though. Here the fajitas are offered as an individual entree. The food was very delicious though. Both the chicken and the beef were seasoned snd cooked perfectly. The chicken was very tender and the beef had a nice char to it. The grilled onions were also very tasty. Overall we were really satisfied. It is a bit on the pricey side compared to other Tex Mex, and the unnecessary use of valet utilizing the parking lot through me off a bit. Not sure I'd return on my next visit, especially when I've already enjoyed other experiences a little more. At the least the food here is delicious and ultimately will always be the most important thing.

The interior of the establishment is spacious and elegantly decorated, accompanied by a lively musical ambiance. Our primary objective was to sample the Puff Puffs (also known as Cheese Puffs). Our server, Jose, promptly provided us with mixed drinks and nachos. As we proceeded to place our orders for Puff Puffs and entrees. I opted for a custom beef and onion cheese Puffy as an appetizer and a beef enchilada with baked beans as my main course. All dishes were delicious. Delicious food, beautiful restaurant, strong, excellent drinks. Highly recommend! Ask for Alejandro if he's available and let him guide your drink choices - he won't steer you wrong. We'll be back and ask for seating in his section. Visiting various Los Tios locations have been a family tradition of ours for decades and I'm happy to continue it adding this location to our rounds. Houston is full of great Mexican food, but after trying at least a dozen restaurants, Los Tios takes the cake. Between the fun atmosphere, great food, amazing margaritas, and top notch service, I can't think of a single weakness when it comes to this place. If you can, ask for Augustine as your waiter. The food and presentation feature modern twists while staying rooted in Mexican flavors. The restaurant is located in Autry Park, next to Annam, a Vietnamese restaurant. There are three parking options: paid street parking, paid garage parking (with two garages), and valet parking. Once you enter the restaurant, the hostess stand is immediately to the right. You will notice the open kitchen, with plenty of seating throughout the restaurant. The space features dark brown hues, creating a warm and intimate atmosphere. FOOD: 1. Potato Croquetas (4/5): This was a complimentary appetizer from the kitchen. It was the perfect all-in-one bite and a great teaser for the night. 2. Avocado and Sikil Paak (3/5: Pumpkin seed and habanero dip, avocado, cucumber, and sesame): This is definitely an interesting dip, as it leans toward a hummus-like appetizer. Neither the habanero nor the spice is particularly noticeable, as the pumpkin seed flavor overpowers the dish. However, it becomes refreshing once mixed with the avocado and cucumber. 3. Tacos de Rib Eye (5/5: Seared rib eye, salsa verde, and avocado): This was perfection. It reminded me of the Michelin-starred tacos in Mexico City. One slice of rib eye with a perfect salsa ratio. I did remove some of the fried potato pieces because they took away from the taco. 4. Carnitas (4/5: Confit pork, refried beans, creamy green salsa, escabeche, and nixtamal tortillas): The tortillas, ingredients, and pork were delicious. The pork was not too fatty and was cooked well. 5. Short Rib Barbacoa (4/5: Braised short rib, sweet potato, and cooking reduction): I was hoping this would be traditional barbacoa, but it is more like a short rib prepared in the style of barbacoa. It was great but became rather heavy later on. All of the ingredients meshed well together. 6. Flan (4/5): This was a complimentary dessert for a celebration. It paired well with the ice cream and cookie crumbles. The service was awesome. Our server took his time explaining the restaurant and the menu. He did not rush us and refilled our drinks appropriately. Would I come back? Absolutely. Its happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 3-6 PM.
