The first time I tried take-out I got a small cup of salsa with a large order. This time, last Friday, I suggested hold the guac and sour cream and include extra salsa. You get all you want in-house. I got home and with three dinners and chips and I got a small cup of salsa, my chicken burrito dinner turned into a beef burrito, and with my fajita dinner, I didn't get any tortillas with with to eat it. Meh. I ordered the pineapple stuffed with seafood, and it came out very charred and consisting of pretty much soupy queso dip with some shrimp and fake crab meat thrown in. I did find one scallop. The plate was so hot I couldn't get anywhere near it for the first few minutes, accidentally brushed against it and my finger is burnt and numb now. Also, I came in to dine alone and they sent me in the back room by myself with no other customers around for some reason. Not a great experience. The salsa was ok. read more

Strangest, least-appetizing tasting margaritas I've ever had. Clearly from a pre-made industrial mix, nothing that tasted at all like real limes whatsoever. And even worse, served so WARM I had to add ice from my water glass just to make it at all drinkable. Seriously, how hard is it to squeeze some fresh limes and add tequila? Total fail on that point and I forgot I'd had the same experience a year before at their South Cedar location. Never again. That said, the food? Is I guess acceptable basic/Americanized Mexican as you'd expect in any suburban area. I ordered a Shrimp a la Diabla and got the Shrimp al Mojo de Ajo instead (new waitress, I wasn't going to make a fuss, although I could have but I was HUNGRY and hate to see food wasted.) It was ok, served with standard rice and guac and salad greens. All in all, nothing to write home about and I'd put up with mediocre Mexican food if they could make a margarita that didn't just taste like chemicals. But alas, apparently they can't so this was likely my one and only visit to this location (and the last time I'll give Los Tres Amigos a try while in the Lansing area.) read more

This was my first time here and I was very surprised how good the food was. I had the chicken chimichanga, it was delicious! The chips was hot out of the oven and salsa was one of the best I've had! My husband and I stopped here for the first time last weekend. It's bigger than it looks, when we walked in the door there was a big bar in the center of the room and tables on the sides, but there's another large dining room in back. The server was very sweet - but forgetful. I ordered a margarita and asked for a glass of ice water, too. She forgot my ice water and then we didn't see her for a while, when I reminded her to bring it. The margarita was okay- but I couldn't taste any tequila at all in it, so it was more like a strawberry slurpee. And I ordered top shelf, so I paid more for tequila that I couldn't detect. When we first sat down we were served chips and salsa, with the salsa in a carafe and two small plastic bowls to pour it in. One of the bowls was dirty - it had food hardened in the bottom of it. The chips and salsa were good, which I appreciated because even though they weren't busy, we waited probably 20 minutes for our entrees - my husband had the small nachos and I had a burrito, so not complicated or time-consuming orders. I ordered wet burrito, and asked for it with ranchero sauce (red) instead of cheese sauce, which it normally would come with. When it -finally- got to the table, my burrito was drowning in white cheese sauce. Which I really don't like. So I told the guy who brought our food out that I had asked for the red sauce. He said he'd "fix it." He came back with the same burrito, drowning in the same sea of cheese sauce, with red sauce poured on top of the white cheese sauce. His method of "fixing it" was to just dump a bunch of red sauce all over the white cheese sauce I asked not to be put on it. The waitress appeared about this time, and my husband's nachos were getting cold because he insisted on waiting for me before eating. I told the waitress about the sauce mix-up, she apologized, and they took the burrito back -again!- to try to get it right. The third time was, indeed, the charm! The burrito was made right - but by then everything in the burrito was cold. And I asked for it without sour cream, so there weren't ingredients that would have made it cold. My husband said his nachos were pretty bad. The tomato on the nachos wasn't diced, or cut up at all. It was one, round slice of tomato sitting on top of the nachos. He said the meat was tasteless, like they didn't season it. The good news: we had our English bulldog in the car and he loved it. read more

First time customer: Ordered take out and had a chimichanga with rice and beans and also a beef fajita on their online lunch specialty menu. Surprisingly, it came with salsa and corn chips (yum!); just like a dine in experience. Wait time was 10-15 minutes. I used to stop by a couple times a month. On recent visits the food was not good. This past week my burrito was covered with such a huge unappetizing pile of pale lettuce, I had to scrape it off to be able to see the burrito. There were only 4 pieces of pork inside along with some large chunks of barely cooked peppers and tomatoes. I won't be back any time soon. read more

Been here twice now, both times very tasty. The margaritas are great, not too sweet, definitely have booze in them! Ordered the Nayarit fish tacos last time, delicious. Also someone came to our table and made guac for us which was cool and tasty if a little pricey. Wish it was just slightly less expensive and we'd go more often. I've always been a strong supporter of the restaurant industry HOWEVER, I was shocked when they added $4.75 to our bill today after I asked the waitress for more cheese to put on top of my chicken chimichangas (an appetizer that already cost $11.50). It already had far less chicken inside than usual. They were also pretty dry with less sauce on top (and I understood that too) with rising costs and employee shortages. I would have even been okay if I'd been charged an extra dollar (or two?!?) BUT ALMOST FIVE DOLLARS for a little ramekin with cheese sauce was a bit too rich for me! I was already disappointed the waitress hadn't informed me when I asked for more sauce and then angered when the cashier didn't say one good thing to improve the situation. So almost $20 for an appetizer and two waters for lunch. Next time (if we even go back) I'll just order a chimichanga special (that comes with sides) off their lunch menu and pay $6.99 for the whole meal! read more

Got my one year old the quesadilla and cheese enchilada off the kids menu and it was pretty lack luster. Los Tres has several locations throughout the Lansing area. I think they are all about the same. Yummy free chips and salsa and fast service. I went for lunch the other day- the special was $1 cup of chicken tortilla soup. The soup was very tasty and had huge chunks of chicken. It was a little greasy, but not too bad. Everything I have eaten there is delicious. My favorite is the chicken chillaquilles! They have happy hour specials and really tasty margaritas. read more

This place is so fast you could easily go there for lunch & make it back to work with time to spare! (if you work in Delta Township that is) they have a great selection of Mexican food here. The quality is good and I much prefer this place to Famous Taco or Cancun. Lots of choices for vegetarians. Try the potato enchiladas, they are my favorite. If you're looking for inexpensive and fast, this is the place to eat. Authentic? No. But the food tastes good, the wait staff is friendly, and it's clean - which isn't true of some other local places. We go here a lot because it's just up the street. read more

Don't have too much to say about this place other than it's better Mexican food than I'd expect to find in Michigan. I'm from Southern California where we practically invented Mexican food, so maybe I'm a little spoiled :D It's a cheap sit-down lunch that'll definitely fill you up for ~$10. When I had just moved here from Mount Pleasant this was one of my first meals. I had heard rave reviews from a lot of people and wanted to see if it stacked up. It definitely did. The chips were great, the salsa was okay ( a little watery) but it was a great way to start the meal. Our waiter was quick and brought our drinks immediately and our food was at the table within 10 minutes. Formerly Hacienda Amigos, now Los Tres Amigos, this is a great family Mexican restaurant. The customers sitting behind us had endless complaints about this place. First they gave the woman chicken rather than beef, and when the waiter gave her the beef she ordered he forgot her silverware. And the beans were like baby food! Definitely the type of people that eat a lot of spit in their meals. My experience was almost entirely positive. The service was very fast and friendly. The chips and salsa were delicious. The food was served within 10 minutes of ordering. Don't bother ordering appetizers because it will come with your meal, but if you like cheesy nachos then get the nachos. They have a pretty extensive menu and the food is on par with any other good Mexican place I've been too. Burritos are good. The chicken ranchero is good. Though the potato enchiladas and spanish rice are a bit dry. The beans were actually pretty decent. This converted Bill Knapp's is also very clean. I will return. read more

Don't get me wrong the food is very good. However, I did a carry out order and the portions were tiny. I was still hungry as was my daughter. Very familiar with Los Tres have been there several of times and always had a great experience UNTIL one day, Went in with girlfriend and ordered food that came out within 10 minutes of ordering which is very nice that it was so speedy but extremely odd that fajitas would be done so quickly. I ordered Nachos tasted them didn't think they tasted like their usual taste but did not find them horrible. My girlfriends ordered Fajitas that tasted very bland as if they were not seasoned, AGAIN have eaten there many of times so got used to what they should taste like and this was NOT what they every taste like. The steak fajitas were extremely bland and the cooked peppers around them did not help the taste by any means again the food was done extremely too quick. My friend called our waiter over to say the food was not what she expected he brushed her off and then said "so all you want is free food" which immediately upset my friend who then asked to speak to his manager her said no she then asked him again to speak to his manager he again said no but said he could take care of it. The third and final time she said she no longer wanted to speak to him and just wanted to speak to his manager he finally agreed. Keep in mind we had to ask a waiter twice before we could get the manager. Who happens to come out stating that the meat was seasoned he doesn't believe us and that were trying to cause a scene. Completely and utterly disrespectful I have and now are working in Customer Service and have never dealt with such a non apologetic demeaning and not to mention inconsiderate person that this company has hired as manager. What really upsets me is the fact that a person that is eating is told that they're taste buds are wrong. After we were all undermined my girlfriend then asked for corporate number he refused to give it to us. MYSELF AND MY FAMILY WILL NEVER GO BACK TO A LOS TRES AGAIN. . I can deal with a disrespectufl waiter but i will not deal with a undermining manager. Take your money and drive another 10 minutes down to Cancun Mexican Grill. My friends and I go here just about every Monday for lunch. They offer 99 cent tacos on Mondays and they always get our food out to us in under 10 minutes which is great if you don't have a lot of time for lunch. Upon arriving in Lansing after the blizzard of 2011 02FEB for a business convention many eateries were closed all day from appearances besides the normal national chain locations. From Ohio we enjoy finding new local eateries. As we drove down Saginaw to the Lansing Mall my wife and I were taken by the fullness of the parking lot outside Los Tres Amigos. That normally is a good sign. Especially on a day when everyone wants to stay home. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the customer eating area. The family friendly atmosphere. The attentiveness and kindness of service personnel. I usually won't eat Guac at most so called Mex-Tex restaurants. It is usually over mashed or blended. Worst yet canned. I was pleasantly surprised when I got my Guac Salad and it was of the Salsa Style with real delightfully tastey chunks of avacado. Nothing better! It was just like I make at home. I was equally impressed with the Shrimp and Scallop in white sauce over Mexican Rice. Sooooo----good! I have learned since that there are several locations throughout the Lansing area. Too bad we do not have such a delightful place in the Ohio region from whence we come. Much continued success. read more

The service here was absolutely HORRIBLE. We will not be coming to or recommending this place to anyone. The waitress sat our group of 6 at a table and forgot about us for 30 minutes, we didnt even get to order drinks or get a menu. It started there. When we finally ordered, we waited a while for our food and got our food after the table next to us which came in after us. We ordered a pina colada and we got a virgin one, then we were charged for the virgin even though we didnt order it. They forgot to bring me my fajita plate. I asked to put in an order of chicken strips for my toddler and they never even put it in. We asked for more salsa and never got any. We asked for a water refill and never got any. As my first time at this restaurant, I am highly disappointed. Not only did we get bad service, but we expressed our disappointment and did not get a discount or anything. Just an I'm sorry. Los Tres has cheap margaritas that are pretty good after a long day. However, beware of the food -- we found a huge spider in the beef nachos. The manager blamed the blinds, saying that the spider fell from the blinds. The spider crawled from underneath the food on the plate, not a falling spider. Have not gone back since. The East Lansing location is much nicer, but abound with annoying college kids. read more
