Everything is ordered individually, so if you want fries wirh your burger, you need to order fries. I ordered the Kolossal Regular Burger ($10). This has mustard, ketchup, plckle & onion on their largest burger patty. The burger was excellent. The meat is of excellent quality and has a very fresh and clean taste. The onions and pickles were very fresh and tasty. The bun was a little weak, but tasted good. This burger currently slips into my Michigan burger ranking at #9. I order the chili cheese fries ($7) with my burger. The fries were good crinkle cut fries, however the chili was very meh. Lastly I ordered a large Chocolate Shake ($6). This shake was fantastic! This place is a true find!! That being said I want to explain somethings i was not aware of in case someone else is making plans to visit. First it's only open till 4pm, also closed on the weekends, and lastly you order at the counter they give you a number to take to your table. The Olive burger was amazing, the fries were crispy. Weston's Kewpee Burger is a Lansing institution. There's little disputing that. Situated downtown on Washington Square and using a recipe for olive sauce that is older than 95 years, the restaurant is nostalgic in all the right ways. The décor is unapologetic in referencing their history and with good reason. Serving comfort food with quality service to downtown's current movers and shakers and former residents who have returned and want an instant reminder of home is something they should be proud of. In pre-pandemic times, it wasn't unusual for a line out the door during the lunch time rush. During the pandemic, Weston's ownership was among the most compassionate with their staff and worked hard to keep the business open even as much of their traditional foot traffic has yet to return. However, you can tell the folks that work here enjoy not just one another but making great food for their customers. Essential During my visits to Weston's this month, I cheerfully tried the Kolossal Olive Burger. Appropriately named as this sandwich is massive, the burger perfectly cooked, and topped with a heaping serving of olive sauce (Chopped, not minced) just the way I like it. There are several local establishments that offer an olive burger and even a few national chains that attempt to offer local flavor. Few of them compared to this tried-and-true version. As I stood in line, there were two gentlemen from south of Jackson who were in town exploring the Capital City. They both ordered olive burgers and as I walked out, I asked them how it was. "It doesn't matter much what else we find today; this burger was worth the drive." Indeed. Comfort Classics My culinary comrades and I sampled several other items off the menu. The Turkey Burger was juicy, surprisingly flavorful, and delightfully crispy- which is atypical of most turkey burgers. The onion rings were solid, but not as good as the sweet potato fries or the regular French fries. Both are seasoned brilliantly- brown sugar on the sweet potato and a light dusting of Greek seasoning on the regular. The chili was hearty and balanced- not too many beans or tomatoes or not enough meat and welcomed on a chilly January afternoon. The restaurant also offers several traditional daily specials- meatloaf and mashed potatoes, bean and ham soup, pot roast, tuna pasta salad, or mac & cheese, all depending on the day. I was fortunate to be in on a day that the goulash was available. Packed with herbs, tomatoes, and ground beef, huddled up with macaroni spirals and served with garlic Texas toast, it was an absolute hit and I had to arm wrestle others in my house for the leftovers. In honor of that recognition, the restaurant now offers a Miami burger- a crumbled burger with a cheesy olive sauce. This olive burger 2.0 is my new favorite in town. I grew up eating at the Kewpee's restaurant when they were in Grand Rapids, so I have been looking forward to visiting this shop in Lansing for quite some time. The opportunity came up when we met my daughter for lunch and found a spot halfway between Ypsilanti and Grand Rapids. I was a little bit concerned about parking; however, we found a spot almost directly out front, and it was very convenient. We ordered deluxe olive burgers, and I believe that it was the best that I have had in many, many, many years. I can't wait to go back. It was super. This classic downtown Lansing establishment has a simple quick service menu of sandwiches and fried sides such as crinkle fries, onion rings and battered mushrooms. They are famous for their olive burger, but not being a fan of olives we went for the Turkey Reuben and the O'Gradys which is an open faced burger patty with cheese and chili. Both were served with fresh and crispy seasoned crinkle cut fries. The menu is no frills but it is a classic and fresh made to order fast food restaurant. We did go around 1pm when the downtown lunch rush was still going so had to wait a little but not bad. The dining room is small and old but adds to the charm. My son who attends MSU and I have been trying to make it to this place for some time now but it's been a challenge due to the hours they are open. Well today happened to be his birthday and when I asked him where he wanted to go this was his choice, and I have to say this kid knows how to pick them! The establishment is an icon of the community and rightly so! This place exudes character and that makes it even more special, OMG the dolls on the walls! My son had a regular Kewpee burger and we spilt an order of onion rings (perfectly fried) and some crinkle cut fries. We also spilt a Miami Burger and we both agreed that was the hit of the day! The menu mentioned that this burger had a "Food Network" contest and we both could understand why. The way the olive sauce and melted cheese incorporates into the beef crumble is an incredible combination of flavors. That combined with a perfectly grilled buttery bun makes this all blend perfectly together in a manner that we've never experienced before. Kewpee is famous for their Olive burger's and apparently it's been a long tradition in Lansing, MI. We ordered our food and found a seat by the window and church pews. There's something so charming about this place and we were so amused by the little nicknacks/kewpie dolls everywhere. We found out that the the restaurant is exactly 100 years old! My boyfriend and I both got Olive burgers and they were pretty much a smash burger. The bun was soft and buttery. The meat was flavorful and came with olives and had olive sauce. It was so interesting, new and delicious. We also ordered onion rings and they were cooked perfectly. This was such a different experience and such a different burger than we've had before. When we received the receipt we noticed a credit card fee was charged without any warning. On vacation with the family and had to take them to Kewpees. Had to get the King Olive Burger as that and the Chili cheese fries is what i have grown up with. Several years later and a new location in the downtown area the burger has not changed. The buns are toasted to a golden brown to keep them from getting soggy, the olive sauce is the same as years back so creamy with lots of olives. This was my most disappointing experience here. When I got their I was able to order immediately.I ordered the colossal olive burger like I had done many times before when visiting Lansing. It took 35 minutes to get it and I asked that not be cooked too well. He kept saying it took longer but when I got it it was cooked into oblivion. So dry I needed water to choke it down. I ordered extra sauce which was just more mayo. Very few olives which was quite sad. Once you order they give you a number and bring you their food. I ordered the King Deluxe? It was the middle sized burger. Trust me it was huge. Olive burgers are a Michigan thing. Which makes sense, because when you think of the great olive-growing regions in the world, Michigan has to be top of mind... right? Kewpee's is family-owned and has been in the area for as long as I can remember. The interior is straight out of Restaurant Monthly magazine in 1974: dark wood, few windows, dark wood walls, dark... well, you get the point. In all that time, their recipes haven't changed, which is good and bad. When you eat here, it reminds you of restaurants of your childhood. Unfortunately in my childhood our burgers were bland, which is the case at Kewpee's. The bun is awesome, the olive sauce is one of the better ones I've had, but their burger is just... there. It doesn't offend but it doesn't add anything. It is wrapped in wax paper, which is my kind of serving dish! The fries are good, but again nothing special. The location of this place is great for a lazy Saturday lunch on the patio, plenty of people watching...it's a sport! I can't review on the inside as I was only in there to ask for a seat outside. The service took a little long and I had to ask for a water refill. I was dead locked on getting an olive burger because for some reason Lansing is definitely the place to be for olive burgers. They would have started with five stars because of memory alone. I used to love this place. They lose a star for having a TV in the dining area (with a soap opera on!) I was pleased when I checked in that a Yelp! coupon popped up, $1 off a King Olive Burger. I had already ordered a Kolossal Olive Burger (which costs $2 more than a King). The waitress had no idea what I was showing her, and had to take my phone to the manager, who declined to honor it. Fine. Uncool. Costs a star. Oh well, the burger was like the girls in Paul Simon's song "Kodachrome.": "they'd never match my sweet imagination..."
