Coffee is good but the person serving the coffee was grumpy, rude, and gave me the wrong size coffee( asked for a small and he gave me the second largest size (of the 5 sizes they have). My best friend Mike dragged me all the way out to Shepherdstown WV from the D.C. area because he keeps raving about this coffee shop, and with good reason, I have come to find out. They make wacky delicious drinks and my iced mocha was really yummy. The decoration inside is totally crazy, I never see any places quite like this. I live in Frederick but I always come out here for the Vietnamese Vibrator. Not sure what's in it I got it off a recommendation of a friend and have been hooked since. Amazing. Just try it. I love the name too haha. It's not even on the menu (which is INSANE btw) but the staff knows exactly what it is every time. Set in a cute town, this coffee shop is definitely one of a kind! When you walk in you can tell it's very independent and there's a sign that says, "Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks." Ha! The menu is kind of all over the place but as soon as I saw the Honey and Cinnamon Latte I knew I had to order that! Ever since I had the Honey Bee Latte at The White Hart in Lynchburg, I've become a little obsessed with honey lattes! It was very cool to watch him make the drink, the man definitely loves his job! It was about the same price as a grande Starbucks drink so not cheap but I will gladly support local coffee shops! The shop sells all kinds of coffee beans and loose teas. There are a bunch of different pastries you can buy to go with your drink. I didn't spend much time looking around but I will most certainly be back!! read more

Coffee wasn't bad however the John Lennon wannabe barista could not have had a worse attitude. When I burned my fingers purring the coffee myself I asked for a sleeve. I was lectured how "we don't subscribe to corporate cardboard". I explained the coffee was hot and if I may have another cup to insulate. The lecture this time was about "how we don't waste". Wild and Wonderful- just like the state motto! This place has the vibe you expect in a college town. Funky, weird, and anti-corporate. If you're looking for a Starbucks experience, you won't get it here. Just know that going in. Their menu of drinks is overwhelming. I love trying new concoctions at different coffee shops, so I tried something new and it was delicious. The whole rest of the day I was dreaming of my coffee drink! The owner is rough around the edges, so I totally get how some think he's rude or off-putting, as mentioned in other reviews. I also see he's very mean to people who leave bad reviews... I just know he makes damn good coffee, so whatever. Embrace it and enjoy the liquid awesome in your hands. (I did have to unfollow his shop on FB though, because seriously, he is mean to those who don't like his shop and I wasn't enjoying reading that on his page.) The music is good, the eye candy around the cafe is fun and interesting, and you'll love your coffee. Just go. It's a great experience. (Just don't be overly sensitive if you don't get stepford wife customer service- because this is not the place you'll get that.) No one does coffee like Lost Dog. The best way to describe Lost Dog to a newcomer would be to compare the baristas to top notch bartenders. Go to any regular bar and you'll get the same basic drinks every other bar serves. Go to Lost Dog and you'll taste coffee concoctions you've never imagined. My two favorites are "Sinderella's Slipper" and "Wet Dog." These are the two best coffee drinks I've ever tasted! The owner waited on me. He is very passionate about the environment, which is obvious, but his delivery came across to me as rude and demeaning. I have met people such as this, who believe they are educating, but their methods are a huge turnoff. He has great products but I don't enjoy patronizing places that include chastising speeches and holier than thou attitudes. Best coffee shop for miles!! Glad to see places like this still exist with all the chain coffee shops around. They haven't made there way to this small town and hope they never do. Baristas are nice and will make any drink you like, just the way you like it! Oh man can I bring the Lost Dog back home with me? Eclectic cluttered decoration, amazing collection of unique teas and coffee, and baristas straight out of Questionable Content (in a good way). The coffee is good but the customer service is terrible. There are no sleeves for hot coffee when I realized this i went back to the counter to ask for a second cup to put over the first one, upon asking the girl behind the counter gave no answer and threw the cup at me, I couldn't believe it. They also dont offer lids for cold drinks to cut down on waste. If they care so much about the environment why dont they use cups made from recycled material and offer lids that way customers dont have to worry about spilling their drinks on themselves. I have been going to Lost Dog Coffee for years for the coffee, the tea, the friendly locals, the art and the great experiences. The cafe lattes are great. And there is a great range of teas to drink. Whether espresso drinks or teas, it is amazing to watch how precisely and expertly they are made. I like tea too and rather than the stores that hoist a tea bag into a cup of hot water, at Lost Dog each tea is steeped at the right temperature and time before I get it. Also, the owner, Garth has assembled a collection of Pu Erh teas unlike any I have ever seen (and I have been to great tea shops in New York City, Toronto and many other cities). As with avocado smoothies and eclectic drink combos, I have never not been surprised with something new despite years of being a customer at the Lost Dog. This is the kind of place that reminded me of my college years and travels to San Francisco and Seattle, where coffee houses were gathering places and felt like a home away from home. And almost like a home, it is open every day and fairly early. Many are the times that we have called up for an order of lattes for a long ride to Baltimore and been able to enjoy great coffee for the ride. read more
