Unique idea here in Charleston. I am personally a fan of outdoor cooking a they have nailed it. Service was attentive. And I like the idea of ordering when we want and deciding how we want the food to come out, in what order. NEW CUISINE TERM ALERT : I give you, "Elevated Caveman." And I cannot stress enough, I mean it in the most complimentary way possible. It is so great to see just meat, veggies, fire = Magic. Yes, the hype is very real. I am a firm believer in doing a few things really well, rather than having a menu of 30 mediocre dishes. Lost Isle nails it with the simple menu, and the ambiance is out of this world dreamy. We have been several times since moving to John's Island last year, and it's been amazing every single time. This is a chaotic spot, queuing up to get in, to order drinks, and to order food. Our table was at the outer edges so we had lines and a walking patterns all around us.... The food is mostly eaten with your hands, so don't wear your best clothes and the menu is on a chalk board. We ordered a variety of dishes to try. Curry braised collards: oh my, delicious but so rich we couldn't come close to finishing the bowl. The smashed potatoes did not have much flavor but the Whipped Ricotta with Harissa Honey and charred bread was out of this world. We ordered the Tomahawk Pork and the Charcoal Chicken. Went for girls dinner on a Sunday. We arrived at 5:37 PM fully prepared to wait however since it had just finished raining we were immediately seated. The hostess explained how everything works, walk up bar and walk up kiosk to order food both are connected so you can pay at either. They do have the Blackbird app which you can also use to pay. The drinks...they are all pre-made so if you're looking for a drink with a punch these are not it. I had their version of espresso martini it was just ok. The food...we opted to go with the whipped ricotta and the hummus as our apps. Both were delish. The whipped ricotta was a little more whipped than what I've had before but flavor was good. They did have corn tortilla chips for my gluten free friend. For my entree I went with the steak and the smashed potatoes. Both had good flavor however both were also very salty and I like salt. The place is more for the vibes for me. I probably wouldn't go again. Also if you are allergic to smoke you probably should avoid it as well since the grill is outside and they have fire pits throughout the seating areas. read more

First time dining at Lost Isle. There is a small parking lot, but it does fill up quickly. This restaurant doesn't take reservations so it is first come, first served, and is entirely outdoors. We arrived a little before 7:00 and waited about an hour for a table. We enjoyed some cocktails from the bar while we waited in the plant filled area next to the bar. We did put our names in for 6 people and were seated at a square 4-person table with extra chairs which was a little tight, but not too bad. When you're ready to order here, you stand up and order your food at the designated area and then when your food is ready it's brought to your table. Servers are not taking your order at your table. We did also have to ask for silverware/napkins. We ordered the whipped ricotta as an appetizer and it was delicious, along with the bread that came with it. The ribeye was recommended to be cooked medium rare, but the outside was very charred (to be expected when cooked over a fire I guess), and the chicken was a little dry. The chimichurri on top of both the chicken and the ribeye was phenomenal. read more

Recommend arriving right as it opens or later at night -food: literally anything on the menu is amazing, they cook on an open fire and it shows; arguably the best ribeye in the Charleston area -drinks: cocktails are amazing and they make good mocktails depending on the bartender, a favorite is their Paloma -service: excellent, order at the counter and it's brought to your table, all the staff are so friendly -ambiance: fun, summery! This place is so amazing! My son wanted to take his father and I somewhere special and wow he was spot on. So unique with great service, great food and great atmosphere. The seating is outside in a very breezy island atmosphere, and they do have an outdoor bar as well. You order at stations and you can (if you want) watch as they grill and they bring it to you (quickly I might add). The staff are so warm and welcoming. We started with some olives and dip which were just the right touch to start! My son and I ordered cocktails starting with the Sheeney Neeney and the Gintonica so tasty and thirst quenching (later I switched to wine). My husband stuck to a beer. Even though there were only 3 of us we decided to order 4 main meals and 2 sides to split and get a taste of what they offered. We had the clams, ribeye, pork chop, and chicken with the grit cakes and Brussels sprouts. We really struggled to decide which was our favorites as they were all so good. A very unique place. You pull up in a gravel parking lot to what looks like used to be a house. No signs on where to go. Walk around to the back and there is an outdoor restaurant and bar by the fire pits they use to cook. I had a the tomahawk pork chop that was excellent. Another good dinner at Lost Isle. This was our third time going and went right after work, so got there around 5ish and it was definitely already getting packed but we were seated immediately. We always have the fish dip as a starter... the dip is good and the bread that comes with it is the perfect side. For our entrees, my husband for the chicken and I got the steak. The sauce on the chicken was really good and the steak is huge. It comes with salt that you can add on yourself (and even with the sauce I felt that the salt was definitely needed). But the star of thjs dinner!? The Brussels sprouts - they're a newer side (replacing the carrots) and are so good. The sauce, the fried capers in there, the Parmesan... This place is great for gathering with friends. It has a laid-back vibe. The service was quick and the food was amazing. I had no complaints about what I ordered. I ordered the chicken, the curry collards, and the whipped feta. The chicken was nicely grilled very flavoral sauce and meat. The curry collard sound like an uncommon combination, however, it turned out the best the next combination I didn't know I needed. The focaccia was so flavorful (garlicky with a soft crunch). 4 stars due to the lack of fans and fly repellant. I went on a semi-rainy day, but not all tables had umbrellas. It was everything I dreamt of. This place has been on my bucket list since I heard of them last year, and we finally made the trip from Georgetown for my birthday. The sweet potato hummus was so good I finished it with a spoon. The chicken had the PERFECT amount of flavor (although I could have gone for some extra crispy skin!) And the star of the show: the cauliflower. Even my husband, who doesn't normally care for cauliflower, said it was his favorite (which shocked me since he got himself the tomahawk pork chop). Chicken had no flavor and charred a little too much. Potatoes were wack. Coconut curry collard. Was ok ,they didn't season the collard the coconut curry they put it in makes it edible. If they would have put it over rice it would probably be bang'n. Olives were good. Grit cakes I didn't like at all but she liked it. The best thing we had was the eggplant dip, it came with this grilled bread. It was bang'n. Service was great. I give this place 5 out of 10. The ambiance brings it to 5. What a neat place!! So many people recommended Lost Isle we finally went to try it. It was a chilly evening and all the seating is outside, but with the heaters and fires around it keeps it pretty toasty. They have several cocktails on tap and a full bar. The bartender was great and let me try a couple of the premade cocktails which I discovered I wasn't a huge fan so I appreciated her letting me taste before committing to a whole one. I ordered a bottle of Prosecco which was a little pricey but not crazy for this type of place. We actually sat at the bar for dinner because the wait was super long and we were able to snag 2 seats at the cozy bar which is first come first serve. We ordered several items as it's almost tapas style. We wanted to try as much as possible. The sweet potato hummus was awesome and the smashed fried potato's were delicious. The half chicken in chimichurri was so good. I wish it was the whole chicken! This is definitely a neat place with a really cool vibe and atmosphere. OMG, is all that I have to say. This was an excellent dining experience. The food is outstanding and the vibe is like going over a friend's house for a cookout. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Dress comfortable and wear flat shoes because the surface is rocky. Lost Isle has a no reservation policy which is well communicated, however what is not well communicated is their disregard for their guests time or patronage. Last evening we checked in and were told a 90-125 minute wait was in front of us. The hostess said it was completely out of her control and no guarantee if it might run longer. We were willing to wait and put ourselves on the wait list. We wandered over to the Tattoed Moose for drinks as the bar at Lost Isle was jammed. We kept checking our spot on the list, and at hour 2 we checked back in at the hostess desk and were told that the table for our party was occupied by a wedding rehearsal group (not mentioned when we checked in) and their policy was to never limit time for guests once seated. we decided to stay on the wait list after perusing the other party and seeing that they appeared to be finishing up. At hour 2.5 the app suddenly dropped from saying 45 minutes to 0 minutes, but no text to notify us of our table being ready. When we went to the reception desk we were greeted with the comment. " i have bad news. we won't be seating you. . We've run out of food for our popular dishes and aren't seating anyone now". That's it. No "gee we are sorry". No here's a drink coupon for next time please come back. What the hostess said was " we were honest with you about the wait" Seriously, that's the best ya got?! I responded with the fact they were not honest. they had not communicated that the party at the table was a wedding rehearsal nor had they communicated food would run out!! And that they had not had the courtesy to communicate they had run out of food to us directly. They simply dropped us from the wait list with no call, no text and were now combative. As I turned to walk away stating I would be certain to post their cavalier and Rude actions to Yelp, she extended us drink tokens for "next" time. So let's be clear. If I was just willing to walk away in disgust you were happy to let me go. But if I was willing to use social media to communicate their behavior I get a free drink for "next" time?! And the kicker...there were 8 of us. She gave me 5 tokens. Will we be back? Not a chance. Will we take every opportunity to tell anyone who will listen of their conduct... loudly. So, Lost Isle, instead of seizing an opportunity to create 8 new raving fans dazzled by courteous, thoughtful interaction you have created 8 displeased messengers happy to tell the world of your disregard for your guests. DISGUSTING!! UNSANITARY! It's been a week since I went there and still feeling disgusted. We sat at a table that was next to the open kitchen and can witness everything just 6 feet away. There were two people on the line, one who looked like he was the chef and the other the server. The server was on the food line scratched his hairy calves, the back of his sweaty head and neck, and then picked food out of his teeth, and then turned around and sprinkled salt on food and picked up focaccia with his hands for our appetizer. When I told him that I didn't want it because I just witnessed him with his hands in his mouth, he gave me a pissed off look and walked away. Nobody came over to address it. Later, he came back and brought our food and dropped it on the furthest end of our table rather than putting it in front of us. No acknowledgment from staff for the remainder of the meal at all. But they did, however, talk amongst themselves, including who I thought was the chef, and then look over at us. It was incredibly unprofessional and very petty. Needless to say, I could not eat any food he had contact with. As we were finishing up, I asked if the other person at the line was the chef. I was told -no that the chef is usually out boating on Sundays. If the chef wants to go out boating on Sundays, then he should find reliable staff who actually give a shit about the customers. I don't think I've ever posted a review on yelp, but feel I needed to warn others and let chef know. No apology- nothing! read more

Then, AND THEN, I get the Fire roasted olives. I want to use profanity so badly, but I also want everyone to see this and take this seriously. The garlic knuckles literally turn into a spread on the bread, then place an olive (with the pit) on top, then a light squeeze of the lemon. Next thing you know, you're saying "damn" out loud after a bite. Get the curry braised collards, do the above and dip your bread in, then you'll say "fuck." This fire-to-table restaurant absolutely lives up to the hype, and it's easy to see why Southern Living named it "Restaurant of the Year" for 2025. If you are ever in John's Island this is a must visit. Lost isle has only been open for a little over year. Probably one of the coolest restaurant concepts in Charleston- fire to table. The cooks are outside grilling everything in front of all of the tables, and all seating is outside. I felt like I was on a vacation or in another state, which I guess explains the name! The ambience is truly something else. Great music, super friendly and fast servers. There is even a little fire pit for if it gets a little chilly. We ordered almost every single thing on the menu, but the highlights had to be the smoked fish dip, sweet potato hummus, and the roasted carrots. I didn't care for the set up where you order your drink at the bar, your food at another place, and a runner brings the food to your table when it's ready, which resulted in one of us being served before the other. The steaks we ordered weren't done medium rare, their usual way to serve them, and when the host asked if I would like them to redo it I accepted the offer. I asked for rare the second time and it was done perfectly. It seems like you can't really get a true medium rare without ordering a rare steak. The smashed potatoes were "crunchy" and overcooked; they seemed like reheated previously cooked potatoes. The carrots were covered in feta cheese and seasoning and I didn't really notice any flavor of being roasted or cooked by fire; the texture seemed steamed or boiled first If you want anything else to drink you have to get up and order it yourself. Then the check, which you have to go ask for yourself, includes suggested tips at the bottom going over 20%. Who are we tipping besides a bartender and a runner to justify those tips? read more

This is a counter order spot - you order drinks at the bar and then food from a person near the open grill area. Lots of seating but only one large table so keep that in mind. There's a large development going in behind them which is a bit of a bummer in regards to the atmosphere but nothing in their control. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Food came out quickly. We ordered family style and everything was excellent. Will definitely be back but plan to avoid during busy times due to parking. read more
