We had dinner at Lotus Leaf on a recent Sunday evening with our son and daughter in law. Lotus Leaf is located in a small strip mall just off of Highway 212. They weren't particularly crowded when we're arrived at about 5:30 although a few people did drift in later. I have been making Thai Curries at home recently so I was eager to compare mine with a restaurant version. We started with appetizers of spring rolls and pot stickers. Both were good but not outstanding. (I think Bona has the best spring rolls in the Twin Cities). We then ordered ginger beef, green curry, and massaman curry. The ginger beef was the least outstanding of the group. It was ok but nothing particularly special. The green curry was very good with just the right level is spiciness for us (we like our food a bit spicy but not overwhelming). The massaman curry was truly outstanding. It was made with beef which had been braised to falling apart tenderness and the curry sauce itself was delicious. We asked for brown rice but they were out. I wondered if three dishes were enough for four people but with the appetizers we were full. Our server was friendly and informative. I would definitely return. read more

We went on Valentine's Day and was the third table. It took 10 minutes to order because that only one waiter until about 15 minutes after we sat down. They sat us and then spent the time taking care of the take out orders, ignoring all of the sit down customers. It took 25 minutes to get our appetizers. Other tables who sat down after us got their appetizers before us. The entrees did not show up for another 30 minutes. We had to ask about the order. Note, the restaurant was not full and there was no waiting for a table. The take out orders seemed to take priority over the people sitting in the restaurant. The waiter did not check on us after getting our entrees and finally showed up to ask if we needed anything. The food was ok, not great. I chose mild for my heat level, cause you just never know, and the waiter seemed unable to help. Let's just say there was zero heat. My compadre ordered medium heat, and I guess the waiter wasn't paying attention, which seemed to be the theme of the night. He did bring a side of chili sauce to kick up the heat. Other than that, We were pretty much ignored once dinner came out, which was weird since there were three tables occupied. $40+ for dinner seemed a little overpriced for what we received. Best Thai food I've ever had. I had the ginger beef and ate every last bite, which I rarely ever finish my food because it's too rich or unhealthy. Dessert was out of this world! Fried banana ice cream with chocolate sauce and strawberries served on a tropical green leaf, I truly felt like I was in Thailand. And their ginger creme brûlée was to die for (and I normally pass on creme brûlée). The most exciting part...they will be serving mango sticky rice in a few weeks!!!!!' We had a wonderful meal here recently. Their potstickers and cream cheese wontons are the best I've had in MN. Garlic shrimp and curry dishes were excellent. Finally, the dessert was surprisingly a highlight- deep fried bananas with ice cream. Only complaint is service was quite slow and not great. No one checked on us once and we had to call the waitress over numerous times for simple things like water refills, a fork, etc. so that was disappointing and stopped me from giving it 5 stars. Americanized Thai food. The chicken and shrimp spring rolls were very disappointing. The spring rolls lacked depth and flavor. We could barely taste the protein and the wrapper was too soft. If you like spicy food, make sure you order the Thai hot. We ordered hot on the papaya salad and massaman curry and there were no chilies or signs of spiciness at all. The papaya salad was sweet if anything and lacked memorability. Our entrees, the massaman curry and pad kee mow were alright, but if you're going to advertise the pad kee mow to include Thai chilies and Thai basil, I would make sure to include chilies as they weren't present and more basil to bring out the flavor of the dish. read more

I looked at the menu online and called in the green shrimp curry Thai spicy and a green papaya salad. Picked up and ate at my hotel. The salad was ok. Not bad at all. I didn't knock my socks off. The least the waiters could've done was apologize for the delay, bt no we waited about 45 mins n my husband finally went up to the counter to find out how long is it going to take...one of the waiters said it'll be ready in 5 mins bt no!
