We visited for my adult daughter's birthday. Very fun night with lots of choices. She liked the robot so much she ordered often just to have it deliver more food. One of the best things is that you can raise the food from the broth so you don't have to dig for it. We ended up trying almost everything plus some apps (also included). There are some guidelines on the table for how long to cook the food and they are somewhat accurate. Some of the vegetables took longer and some of the meat should have been shorter but we finally caught on. We loved the multitude of mushroom options. And the seafood was very good. The spicy broth is indeed spicy (not MN hot - spicy). We cooked many items in spicy and then mixed that and another broth for our bowls. That worked great. Amazing Chinese food!! Superb customer service and phenomenal menu, with many options to choose from. It's a seasonally priced item on their menu. As of April 5th, the price was around $72.00 for a full lobster. It was steamed I think, then what I find odd but unique is the chef chopped up the lobster while still in it's shell then mixed the sticky rice and scrambled eggs with it, onto a large serving plate. It looks nice and delicious. I thought the lobster would've been de-shelled. So if you don't want to mess with the lobster shell maybe ask if they can exclude it from your dish. It's nice to have an AYCE hot pot place inside Asia Mall but compared to other hot pot places in the Twin Cities now, this one falls short for me. The soup base itself wasn't flavorful enough for me on its own. Tomato is my go to soup base for hot pot in general but for this location, the tomato tasted like watery ketchup. Their seafood protein options are nice and overall variety for meat and veggies is okay. They have your typical hot pot sauces but I would have like a little more options. Their hot bar menu is ok. I would have liked to have more fruits options too. Complementary ice cream cups at the end too. Although, I prefer to have my own pot for hot pot, I think having a community pot is more traditional. What I do like about this hot pot is that even if you have to share for your table, there is an up/down buttons which rises the ingredients from the hot pot, making it easier to grab! If you haven't had hot pot you have to try it and this is the way to do it - communal broth in the middle! The broths were great and there was a way to raise the bottom so you can grab anything cooked at the bottom which was super nice so you didn't miss anything. We especially loved the spicy Sichuan. The sauce bar was a great way to do it so you can choose your own flavors and if you don't know what you're doing they have some recommended staff recipes posted to help! It's all you can eat so you can keep ordering as you go and they have a fun little robot waiter that will bring it out for you. This place was pretty good but some of the customer service was lacking. Granted, we were a group of 8. So that alway sucks for the staff. None of us had done hot pot before and our waitress didn't really explain things well. She asked us upfront if we had done hot pot before and we said all "no". Then, she almost looked a little annoyed, and we felt awkward, like we shouldn't be there. We kind of had to figure it out by ourselves and luckily, they had a sign in the restaurant (near the sauce bar) that someone took a picture of that had instructions. Thankfully we saw this otherwise we may have missed it. Get different meats too! The tempera/fried options often just got too mushy in the oil. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They give you plastic water cups, which feels a bit weird and wasteful for a restaurant that charges $38 a person.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They also only gave us one pair of tongs for the raw meat, which was a bit of an issue. We were often nervous about food contamination as well, just due to the available space you have at the table. There's also a bar/buffet area to make your own sauces to dip your meats in, or mix up with the meal you make. This is pretty fun! The sauces are good and they have recipes available if you're not sure what to make. A couple friends mentioned how they wish they were more sauce options. I didn't feel this way personally. They also have ice cream Cups included with your purchase. Overall, I would rate this 3.5/5 stars. Leaning closer to three since it's just average. For $38 plus an 18% auto tip, (maybe the auto tip was due to our party size? Either way, we would have tipped 18% to 20%) or about $95 if you're a couple and wanting to dine on a weekend. It felt overpriced but was a fun experience. Maybe it's something you do once a year on a special occasion. Definitely give hot pot a try at least once in your life, but it's too expensive and there's too many negatives to make this a reoccurring restaurant. read more

Made a trip to the Asia Mall to have some hot pot. Hot Pot City is a fabulous location. As you walk in you see lots of happy people and lots of cat robots delivering food to the tables. Honestly at I went to see the robots and ended up loving the place. Our server Kelly was amazing and she made some very good recommendations and gave us details on everything. The location is all-you-can-eat so come hungry they have a separate food bar and they have a good Asian beer menu and tea. The Asia Mall is close to us in Eden Prairie, so RC and I checked it out on Sunday during the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration. There were singers, dancers, games, and fun little tables with gizmos and toys. We walked around a bit (it's WAY smaller than I expected) and went upstairs looking for food. There are a handful of restaurants and all were super busy this day so we checked out Hot Pot City. Neither of us had ever had Hot Pot, so we were complete noobs and didn't do some things I now would try. It's an AYCE restaurant and I was *not* hungry enough. I enjoyed the interactive nature of cooking our own food and while I got the pork broth, RC went for Szechuan and added more chili sauce. The best parts were the shrimp, the gyoza, and the veg. The chicken would have been good if we had cooked it for a very short time instead of overcooking it. I also wish I had seen the noodles because I love noodles. We did not care for the thick ropes of seaweed so I'll skip that next time. Service was excellent and our server made helpful suggestions, kept our waters filled, and offered to bring more of anything we wanted. A lovely experience. There are no prices displayed anywhere so the $80 tab was a shocker. However, now that I know, I'll be more judicious in deciding to go back. read more

The waitress was helpful with recommendations for our broths, meats, and noodles. We loved that it was all you can eat and believe we got our moneys worth. They had quite the variety of meat options on the menu, and I really appreciate it that they had a few "safe options" for those that are less adventurous. I was a big fan of the scallops, shrimp, beef and pork and definitely preferred the rice noodles. Staffing was light that night, but definitely OK because the restaurant wasn't at capacity and there wasn't a wait. But we did really appreciate that they have a robot so we didn't have to wait on a human to be available to bring us our items for the hot pot. The moment I heard this place opened, I knew I had to stop in! Don't let the wait deter you, just come on a day where you have time to sit and wait. I wish they had and iPad or something to check in on, but they don't. You just sit in the line against the wall for about an hour. Bring a card game or ur Airpods for scrolling tiktok or just people watch, you'll be fine. Pro tip: review the menu on your phone while you sit in line so you can be ready to know which broths and food items you want to start with! We opted for one spicy one non-spicy broth. Be ready, the spicy is SPICY. Then we ordered just about half the menu and headed up to the salad and sauce bar. This kind of experience was totally out of my comfort zone but it was totally fun to try it out and it's a super popular place. The best: shrimp. Hands down. I also liked the dumplings. And the noodles. Fun that there's so many different types. We liked udon and instant. The worst: blue crab - was almost no edible part of it that I could find. Kudos: for this team of staff for being super efficient and welcoming. They're eager to help you enjoy your experience whether it's your first or 5th time. Hot Pot City offers an authentic AYCE hot pot experience with good sauce bar, help yourself bar for cabbage and mushrooms, and a broad menu of endless proteins, noodle and misc vegetables available via servers. It suffers in terms of sub par broth - Szechuan spicy and pork bone broths disappointed. Ultimately, I happily recommend this place. Lackluster broth can be augmented by a good dipping sauce, and as a whole this definitely scratched the AYCE hot pot itch. Chinese hot pot always puts me in a terrific mood. Extra stuff: - Innovative: an elevator rack inside the hot pot can be electronically raised or lowered. This means no need to dig and dig for that lost quail egg, etc - AI is upon us - service assisted by robots with cute LED faces and theme music - the sauce bar had a lot of good chili options: Sambal chili, chili oil, Thai chili, and chili powder. - Service, ambiance, and Asia Mall setting were all enjoyable. The best chinese hot pot I've had in the cities area remains Le Pot, which I love, but I would say that Minnesota currently lacks a truly fantastic hot pot spot. Tips: - IMPORTANT. Make two dipping sauces. 1. Simple, classic northern Chinese (very old recipe): sesame sauce (tan colored sauce), with an aromatic like green onion or cilantro. 2. My favorite "all purpose" southern/Szechuan sauce: teaspoon vinegar (black vinegar on the shelf above), teaspoon garlic, teaspoon sesame oil, teaspoon scallions, teaspoon cilantro, teaspoon chili peppers, and a little bit of sugar. (Adjust ratio to taste, add soy sauce or salt as desired) - This is in Asia Mall, so you're getting boba for desert right?? - Recs: beef and pork are a safe choice - they're sliced thin and cook in seconds. Crab sticks, Quail eggs, udon noodle, instant noodle, Chinese cabbage, enoki mushroom, corn, tofu skin. An order of potatoes will take like 10 minutes to cook, but it's like the most delicious mashed potato - if you're new, hot pot has a slight learning curve but it is worth it. Some of the greatest meals of my life are hot pot Final thoughts on the broth: - I would speculate the spicy broth could be improved by asking the server for a stronger, spicier soup base. The pork bone broth just lacked depth; it was fine for dipping but I didn't sip it like i normally would. They recommended a garlic chicken broth base, but I did not try this time. They have Tom Yum also, haven't tried here. - I think the tone of my review is pretty positive overall. I just can't give 5 stars when the broth is below average. read more

I'm still something of a novice when it comes to Hot Pot, but I can confidently recommend this place to anyone who wants to get real with with a Hot Pot meal, no matter your experience level. I have not been able to stop thinking about how excellent everything tasted. There are a few caveats right away. One is that the hours are limited. That might be partly because we came during what is still something of a "soft open" for Asia Mall, but nothing seemed soft about the business that was going on when we were there. The server suggested that the post-lunchtime-only hours are more a result of where they are at with the ability to staff the restaurant. We arrived at the mall at noon, only to learn that HPC would not be open until 1pm, and a line had already formed, so we had to wait in that line for over an hour. The lesson here is to adjust your visit to fit their hours. Also, see my separate review of Asia Mall for more details, but the whole place was so busy that parking was a catastrophic mess. But once we were seated and getting our food set up, everything was so good. It's an all-you-can-eat situation, except that you have to limit your table to two types of broth. The Sichuan broth was soooo good! We believe its authenticity will hold up to scrutiny. You go get vegetables and sauces from a buffet area, the rest is ordered from an actual server, and delivered by a robot cat. Did you know about the robot cat. You guys? Robot cat. Our server brought more items by request as the meal went on; the robot cat thing is maybe a little gimmicky, but if you're worried that you won't get to interact with people, you don't need to worry. All our food items were fresh and fantastic; special mention to the wood ear mushrooms and the generously-cut lotus root. But the selections were wide-ranging and invariably high-quality. One other issue that maybe they'll fix when they've been open for a while, is that there were no implements to get past the shells of their shellfish. I would recommend not getting crawfish until they have that sorted out. But I would definitely recommend coming here. Pick a not-busy time within their opening hours so that you can maybe just go right in or something, but man this food tasted good. read more

This is all you can eat, so come hungry! I loved that we could have two separate broths, because my boyfriend loves everything super spicy and me, not so much. The options for the hot pot were plenty, I even got to try some new things like lotus roots (and they added a great crunch)! The Twin Cities has been seeing it's rise of hot pot spots and I had to check this one out. Unfortunately, it failed to live up to it's competitors, which is why I am giving a 3 star - not sure if I would return with other options available. Broth- 2/5- the pork bone broth and sichuan are made of the same broth but with a sichuan spicy bouillon that barely added to the flavor. It was salty the day I went- and just not an enjoyable broth by the end of the experience, especially with the noodles soaking everything ip. Unfortunately, this was the worst Sichuan broth I've tried in the Cities and elsewhere. This holds the highest weight for rating for me since Hot Pot Broth is what makes or breaks a spot. Hot pot options- 3.5/5- i like the variety of seafood and veggies and that it's AYCE. However, the lamb was basically shredded, fried tofu tasted a lil frost bitten, and tofu skin was okay. However, the corn was delicious and I enjoyed the fatty beef and the opportunity to have blue shelled crab, which isnt offered at other spots. Missing rice Sauce bar- 3.5/5- solid sauce bar for your basic needs Service- 4/5- we went on a Monday so it wasn't busy. Our servers were friendly, and the robots were prompt to bring our food. Only complaint is that our pots got turned off when they took our bill so we didn't get to finish cooking our food Ambiance 4/5- pretty spot with lots of natural light. No complaints. read more

If you go here I would recommend paying card or if you do intend to pay cash bring exact change. My friends and I arrived right at opening time, being greeted by our waitress who already seemed annoyed with us. When it came time to pay the check, mine came out to $59.58 and I gave her $100, our waitress quickly dropped off two of three checks before disappearing, all I got back was a $10, a $5 and five $1. My friend's bill came out to $40.10, she gave the waitress a $50 and never got any change back. We called the restaurant and were told it was busy and that they would call us back at 7:30. We waited a while before we ended up calling back and they told us that "we are young and must have missed counted". We were also told we had left $8 dollars folded on the table that came from someone's pocket but no one left any money on the table after having $20 taken from mine and $10 from my friend, we knew they had a $30 tip so why would we leave more money on the table. My family works in customer service so we always make sure to tip well, I do hope this doesn't happen to anyone else who visits here. read more

This is a standard hot pot joint, but with delivery robots. It is kind of hard to mess this business model up. What I love most about this is the crowds at the Asia Mall have finally died down enough the wait is not too long. We just shop around while waiting. The one star ding is for a perceived lack of vegetables and maybe mushroom varities like the Minneapolis hot pot, or wherever I was also at recently. Their broth is not salty like most other hot pot broths - almost more Japanese than Chinese if you are familiar with the subtle differences. We had one side spicy, the other not. We also made our own dipping sauces, the latter somewhat neutralizing the spicier broth. We've been here a bunch of times ... not really much to comment on. Beats doing it at home and assembling all the ingredients. We will be back. read more

The robots were adorable and really made the experience fun! I would've loved to have more explanation surrounding the hot pot process, and maybe some recommendations. I've always wanted to try a hot pot experience, so on a gloomy afternoon, we headed to Asia Mall to give this spot a try! The hype of Asia Mall has died down enough to make the parking experience a little less hectic, which is a welcome surprise. There is usually a line out the door, so it's not too hard to find this second floor spot. The space itself is clean and inviting, with artsy projections on the walls. There's a hustle and bustle to the place as people walk around, robot delivery carts sing, and the ever-present hum of boiling broth fills the space. It was our first time, and our server did a pretty good job of explaining how it all works. I would absolutely suggest coming in with a learner's mindset and a bit of patience for this experience. There's still a bit of needed creativity to have a good time. Once we figured out how everything worked, the food was pretty delicious. Highlights included the copious diversity of ingredients you could endlessly choose from, the sauce bar, the coffee pudding in the cooler, and the fun of the experience. My only disappointment was that I felt like the pork broth really had no flavor, so I found myself dousing my ingredients in sauce to give them some flavor. I was so excited to finally try some hot pot here in the Twin Cities! I thought the way that the waiting system was set up was a bit disorganized - it was based on a first come first serve basis, they do not take down your name, do not hand out buzzers or anything. I went on a Saturday afternoon and had to wait close to 45 minutes to an hour to be seated. Loved all the options included in AYCE, but wish they also had the another option. Thought it was quite pricey for almost $40 for hot pot We got to try the pork bone and the sichuan spicy broths. Absolutely LOVED the pork bone, but found the sichuan spicy broth a bit hard to eat because the spices would get mixed in with the food. The service and the seating areas were great! Everyone was super friendly and helpful, and it was super spacious! Would recommend on a cold day!!! read more
