Loughran's has been on my list a long time. Met a co-worker who was in from overseas for dinner. He had the pleasure of sampling the food at some catered events. He recommended the fish cakes as did the waitress. Fabulous recommendation! Nice chucks of scallops, shrimp and crab, not fishy at all and not greasy. The sauce was the icing on the cake. It was delicious! Rhe veggies wwrw not too done and had a nice butter flavor and you can't go wong with mashed potatoes. The restaurant is quaint and they had live music in the bar area. The restaurant is dirty and I would not eat there. We were sitting by the window and there was a wasp by our table. My husband tried to kill it and the shade moved and omg there were dead bugs all over the window sill. If the dining room is that dirty I can only imaging what the kitchen looks like. This is your typical neighborhood bar with all the regulars. Don't expect vibrant, ambience or amazing food or service. I would say the food is average at best. The price of drinks and food is very reasonable for this kind of a establishment. read more

I cannot express how stuffed I am right now. Just got back from here and this was really an amazing meal. Check out the pics and you'll see. My husband ordered the dinosaur, I mean Prime Rib. That thing was gigantic. For those wondering, no he did not finish it and took half of it home. The steak was medium well which made it a little bit pink but more on the well side. It had an amazing grilled taste and juicy. I had the cajun shrimp which I must add was very good. The sauce had just the right amount of heat and flavor. Soooo good! Took almost all of it home. I got stuffed with the calamari and my lemonade. My husband ordered a side of shrimp scampi and it wasn't like the type you normally see all buttery and garlic-y. Wish I took a pic but it was more in a roux. Very thick and had a strong flavor. The shrimp was good but the sauce was too overwhelming. Besides the shrimp scampi, The food was really good and the service was excellent. I have to add they have a separate lunch and dinner menu with no exception. Last time we got there at 4pm trying to order from the dinner menu and couldn't. Dinner starts at 5pm. Their lunch menu looks pretty good but the dinner one seems good for those carnivores. Roarr. Loughran's gets my maximum 3 star pub score, but it's hard to say why. The menu is more than just a pub listing. There are some Italian choices and other traditional things. The wine selections are very limited. We had a huge salad, decent French onion soup, and gigantic cajan shrimp pasta. The food was pretty good and service also fine. Went there on a Thursday night which is the night when The Parting Glass performs from 6-8 and people sing along at will. Good Irish ballad favorites sung and enjoyed by all. First off don't go for prime rib like we did cause they don't advertise that they stopped selling it 2 years ago!! We started off with bread and an order of fried ravioli. Bread was good but we were then told they were out of fried ravioli. Strike one!! The we got a side salad for an appetizer with blue cheese. After putting the blue cheese on the salad and taking a bite we realized the cherry tomatoes were all old and bruised and that the blue cheese was actually tartar sauce! Wtf!! Strike two!! We then ordered the chicken special which had so much grease in the sauce it looked like a greasy slice of pizza! I ordered the porterhouse steak medium rare and they cooked it beyond well done!! Sat while they recooked me another steak which came out so rare it should have mooed! Strike 3+ were out!! The waitress did what she could and was embarrassed so we paid and left never to return again!! Don't waste your time going there McDonald's would be considered gourmet compared to Loughrans!! read more

I've been coming here for years....and not until recently was I a local. I actually traveled to get here in the past when I lived 30 miles away. I've read a few snotty and stuck up reviews...wow complete losers. I mean to lie and say things like the place smells and there were flies?! Maybe it was your husband or your armpits. ANYWAY. The staff is great, super nice no matter what day it is. And for beer, a HUGE selection in bottles and draft as well. Prime rib is always great The French dip at lunch can not be beat. They also always have three varieties of fries....burgers are huge and juicy.....I will continue to visit Loughran's...oh and they have 20 Oz euro pints ...who in the Hudson Valley as that for 4 bucks? read more

This is an old school Irish bar, which looks and acts the part. Beer selection is decent, and I like their booths in the dining room even though they're so damn low to the ground. They have a surprisingly good bread basket, with white, a darker bread, and Irish soda bread, the latter of which is sweet and addictive. Service is friendly and very efficient. They're famous for their prime rib and chops, but I had a tooth problem so I had to get something a bit less rigorous. I got the Irish chicken curry, which came with the curried chicken and onions, steamed broccoli, and rice mixed with lentils. The chicken was very soft and the onions were in long strips, but the sauce wasn't nearly as flavorful as it could've been; it was more tart than anything. The portion was also a bit small next to the amount of rice given and especially the other dishes my family got. The broccoli was ok, but the rice was really good. Cooked al dente and with added flavor from the lentils, the rice was better than the rest of the dish. My family's corned beef and steak seemed a lot better, which makes me feel somewhat bad for the low rating, but this won't be my last time here and next time unless I break the rest of my mouth I'm getting a steak. read more

Loughran's ! Date visited, July 21st, 2009 We arrived at 7 pm.... did not like hearing that there were only end cuts left of prime rib... (as it sounded like they were running out of prime rib (their specialty) much too early !!!!) We felt grateful that we just made it, though... At 7:30 pm, we overheard the waitress saying they were out of prime rib althogether.. I asked if they could find me a real crusty end cut. I was NOT disappointed! Was with my aunt and uncle who had raved about the huge chunk of tasty beef for $13.95 !! ($18.95 on weekends). Nice and tender, too.. I was also VERY impressed with their homemade bread basket, (yummy Irish soda bread as well as egg bread).. and I LOVED their homemade creamy Italian dressing...!! Also homemade french friesd and sweet potato fries were excellent! I took off a "star" in my ratings, cause of the "FEAR FACTOR" of not knowing if there's going to be prime rib left.. so you better get there EARLY!! Wow! We got the family dinner tonight. So much food for the price! Loughran's food is always exceptional and tonight was no exception. Their special mashed potatoes are fantastic. The chicken was great. The fish cakes were incredible. And they included cheese cake for dessert. I would recommend their takeout dinner for any week night that you don't want to cook. read more

We haven't been here in awhile so decided to stop in since it's close to home. Asked if they had a cider on tap. Waitress wasn't sure so she was going to find out. Still waiting for an answer. I ordered a Cajun burger medium rare with no bun. Was brought a plain burger. When I questioned the waitress about it she seemed genuinely confused what I was asking. I asked where the jalapenos were. She said it didn't come with jalapenos but she can bring me some. She came back with a cup of jarred jalapenos. I explained that it was just a plain burger. She said, "but it's Cajun". What??Then I asked why there was no cheese. Again confused. She asked what kind. I said it's a Cajun burger, I'd like what is supposed to be on it. Again confused. I had to explain again that I would just like what I ordered. She asked if I'd like it remade. I again just asked to have what I ordered. She took it back, they slapped a slice of pepperjack cheese on it and called it a day. Left me with my plastic cup of jalapenos. $14 huh? Now I know why we haven't been there in awhile. read more

Father's Day outdoor dining with reservations for 6 O'Clock. It's 7:15 with no sign of our food. The waitress is very pleasant bit there's only so many times you can tell me "15 minutes" while people with to-go orders are coming and going with their food. Here for beer...in the clear. Here for grub ain't that good Bubb. I have to say first impressions are an important thing. At the entrance the skepticism began. We saw a couple (mid-50's) obviously being scandalous. Meaning there were definitely not married to each other. I know I know we are here for the food but that should have been the first sign. The inside of the joint is an old typical pub atmosphere. With your regular afternoon drinkers. We were seated and the hostess was a nice woman. The waitress however appeared to look bothered that we arrived for lunch. Her indifferent and less than friendly demeanor wasn't very welcoming. We asked what the specials were for the day and her answer was a dry: it's on the menu. After ordering the not so wonderful meal (description to follow) we saw a flyer indicating their wonderful prime rib and twin lobster which was not mentioned at all on the menu we were given. Our order: The French Dip. The only thing French about it...at best was the roll. It was suppose to be a sirloin sandwich with steak fries. It should have been called "Yesterday's Meat with burnt potato chunks." A picture to follow illustrating the poor dish. The meat in the sandwich tasted hands down a like luke warm left over deli meat; left out all day. No type of sauce or gravy; I had to ask for that. The steak fries were burnt and no flavor. At first I thought maybe they were those these great blackened seasoning fries, but no. Maybe even charcoal for a cool trick; but no. They were just burnt. People who gave high reviews definitely started drinking first because I don't see anything appealing about this place. For an Irish pub...they did not have one typical shepherds pie or Irish stew. It was French this and Italian that. The pictures that are posted must have been from a magazine because nothing being served look like that. Live and learn. Skip this one!
