Came in on a snowy Sunday for football and an early dinner. We were immediately met by a friendly server who accommodated our party quickly. The owner, John, soon came over and struck up a friendly conversation with us. Drinks were good and attentively filled. The appetizers were perfect -wings, skins, sticks, and the best quesadilla. We took some food to go and everyone was very pleased with their meals - I think they were working with a second string kitchen staff due to the weather so I can only imagine what the food was like on a "regular day". All in all, great atmosphere, genuinely kind staff, and the perfect football-watchin' food. We will definitely be back next time we're in town. read more

Came in again on a very rainy Wednesday evening around 7pm. Always come in for lunch, so this was our first evening adventure. We were a group of five. The restaurant was lively, busy and filled with happy but wet guests (including our group). Our server was nice (great as usual) and she waited till our entire group arrived and quickly took our order (five burgers, a chefs salad and onion rings + three on tap beers)-didn't get pictures today :? Anyway the burgers were fresh made thick patties (not the frozen flat type) and cooked perfectly! Delicious! Onion rings were a large shareable basket and looked homemade, thickly cut and crispy fried (not greasy) The chef salad and fresh iceberg lettuce, plenty of ham, turkey and roast beef rolled into little tubes. I've been many times before, and I highly recommend Irish food, but today I went with a bbq burger instead. I asked for medium rare, and it was brought out cooked perfectly to it. absolutely terrible. First, all out of Harp beer on tap. Next all out of corn beef for a Ruben sandwich. Ordered 3 burgers, 45 mins later no food. Waited 10 mins to get a second beer and had to stand up and wave a server down to get it. Burgers came out all wrong. There were two women servers who seemed to be more interested in talking between them selves than taking care of customers. I always brought our flying club here for lunch but never again. I heard they were selling out, can only hope new owners will take better care taking care of their customers. read more

I didnt get the name of the young man taking care of us Sunday afternoon, but he was the nicest. A most nice little neighborhood joint for Walden families and friends. It's not a dive bar but it's most definitely not a restaurant or fancy. It's a place to go have a beer or three, oh and they have plenty of food offerings on hand to go with it. I heard good things from the locals I chatted with about the sandwiches, burgers, and other foods. My friend got a couple apps and the onion rings filled my nose with their fresh fried scent. (I wasn't hungry at the time but he sure chowed right through them.) My two beers came full and cold, no excessive head. Not cheap, but they do have happy hours during the week and Irish Wednesday nights with $4 pints. That's when you wanna swing in. I mean, I guess if you're local, you'll wanna swing in on the regular, cause that's the kinda place this is. And yet they liked me despite being non-local! Glad to find a pub open past 11pm after attending a concert at the City Winery Hudson Valley. The place was empty except for one other guy when we 3 non-locals ventured in for a few pints at 11pm. We ate here on the recommendation of Yelp! Reviews and for my first visit I was thoroughly happy and satisfied. Bright and clean inside, our server, Veronica, was great. She was welcoming, asked us what brought us there that day( house hunting) at which she began extolling the virtues of the area - including the close proximity to this pub. . When asked what was good she replied anything from the Irish menu and she was right. I had the bangers and mash, my wife the fish and chips and a friend had the shepherds pie. All were good but for me the shepherd's pie was a standout. This is worth a visit. read more

We are relatively new to the area and were looking for something new for take out last week (we're not to crazy about Waldens pizza places). We always drive by this place, but we're both sober so hitting up pubs (in the pandemic no less) isn't exactly our style anymore, it also stands out to me because I have Sweeney cousins :) My husband got the Shepard's pie and said "who ever wrote the review saying it was under seasoned has no taste buds". Didn't even get the chance to snap a pic of it... He did say he wished it was bigger, but for the price it was right! I got the bacon cheese burger, I'm weirded out easily by meat and have only been eating burgers for 2-3 years. It was cooked just as I asked and tasted great, if anything for me it was a little big! The fries were good (we all know take out fries are iffy) but keep in mind I live like a mile away. We'll definitely be ordered from here again. read more

After a trip to tour at Angry Orchard, I was looking for a place to eat. Trusty YELP didn't steer me wrong. Greeted as I walked in I found a spot at the bar to sit. Not too many people here, seeing as how it was about 3:00 on a Sunday afternoon. The bartender/waitress was very helpful and told me what was good on the menu. I had already decided that I would be getting a burger, but she only re-enforced that decision. Food came out in about 10 minutes, and was presented really nicely. Burger was juicy and everything was fresh. Bacon was crispy, just like I like it and the burger was cooked just as requested, medium well. Flavor was really good and portion size is generous, especially when you factor in the price. All staff members were engaging and made you feel welcomed. Not necessarily the case when you are in a small town bar, but there is nothing ordinary about this place. Overall very welcoming! Very pleased with my decision to come here and I would for sure come back here again if I find myself in the area again. read more

This wasn't my first time at Sweeney's, and will definitely not be the last. The atmosphere is great - plenty of Irish related items, clean, and friendly. It's a great place to go with a few friends to kick back a few drinks. My favorite item here is by far the fish and chips - it's one of the best fish and chips around this area, and always tastes fresh and not like it's been sitting around for a few days. There is a good amount of batter on the fish, but it doesn't take it over (I've been to places where it feels like the meal is 1/3 batter - ICK). The meal is served with a very generous portion of tasty fries that are just crisp enough. A friend had the bangers and mash, and said it was good enough. A coworker of mine swears by their chicken wings, but I can't say anything as I have yet to try them (next trip hopefully!) - they do have several different flavors, and it looks like some good variety available. The beer selection is pretty good, and I'm always happy to toss back a Guinness. However, if you order a cocktail, it really depends on who makes it. You might get a strong drink or you might get something a little off. The bartenders are all friendly and helpful, but some of the servers aren't the best. During my most recent meal here, after our food was dropped off I couldn't get the server's attention for a little over ten minutes (which is lousy when you want a condiment for your food). When I requested the condiment, she could only say, "Oh? Had you been waiting for that?" Yup, I had. The bartender dropped it off because I think the server was busy with one of two other tables, but I'm not really sure. read more

My friend and I stopped in for something to eat after visiting Angry Orchard. We had wanted wings but the place we usually go to is too far, so we just stopped here. Imagine our surprise when we walked in to see a board of their wing sauces! All we had were wings and fries, but they were tasty! The garlic parmesan had lots of real parm on them and the Angry Orchard BBQ were tasty. We ordered a side of fries and it was huge. We found this little charm last minute. There were five of us and I was the DD so everyone else were drinking and having a blast. The food was so delicious we were all very happy. Two ordered fish & chip (and one to go) another got the Shepard pie. One got a sandwich while the last got a quesadilla. Not exactly Irish food but it was all very good. The food is still the same, the atmosphere is still awesome. But you can tell it's changed hands, and if they want it to 'stay exactly the same' they need to step up. The wait staff was so undersupported people were getting up from the table and going up to the bar for drinks. The poor waiter was running back and forth delivering food so constantly it was humanly impossible for him to take orders. All the while the owner sat at a table with his friend drinking a beer, just watching his staff panic and stress. My Wife and two friends and I stopped in yesterday for a St. Paddy's Day Eve lunch. About 1:00 hoping to avoid a lunch crowd. Plenty of nice oak barrel hightops available. Still quite busy for a Thursday. Meghan was our server/bartender. She took care of everything, by herself, for the whole place. There were 5-6 people at the bar. A large group of seniors at another table and 3-4 more tables of 2 in addition to us. This young lady was great. It's a long walk to the kitchen too! Making drinks, pouring Guinness, running food, cleaning up, handling checks. I wanted to speak with the owner to let him know how impressed we all were with Meghan's great work ethic and cool demeanor. Refreshing to see a young person handle a multi-tasking situation without getting frustrated at all. As for the establishment itself... spotless! Lots of oak everywhere. Nice bar. Irish signs and memorabilia on the walls. I had Shepard's Pie. Delicious. Turkey Club Sandwich for my Wife was dry, unfortunately. Fish & Chips were great. I stopped in here for a quick bite to eat and a beer or two with some friends on a dreary day, and when we finally left, I couldn't stop saying how I couldn't believe that I had never been here before. Better yet, I cannot wait for an opportunity to go back. The bartender was great - recommending some grub or quick with the banter - and my mushroom/swiss burger was just what the doctor had ordered. A couple of pints of Smithwick's down the gullet on top of that, and I was a happy lad. If I had lived a bit closer to Sweeney's, a bar stool would surely bear the imprint of my posterior. I went here for lunch with my family this past weekend. We just finished up at Angry Orchard and looking for a place to eat. It was pretty quiet inside, few people up at the bar. We were seated right away. Our waitress was wonderful. Very attentive, nice. The food was very good. Everyone was happy with their lunch. Mom had the Reuben with some great onion rings. We shared them. Dad had the turkey wrap. My cousin had a burger. I got the corn chowder soup and the BBQ Chicken Quesadillas, very good !! We are glad we stopped in. Sweenys is the real deal for Irish food. I have been coming here for years. Sweenys is located in walden. The staff is great and super accommodating. All of the staff have Irish brogues. If you are looking for a true Irish experience you will experience it here from the traditional style food to the brogues. The decor on the walls is really cool. Defiantly not a place where you will be bored. The food is mostly traditional Irish with a little mix of American Irish. The things I enjoy the most here are the burgers. The handmade Shepards pie is a must!!! But defiantly check out there daily specials list. There bar area is huge. They have just about every type of liquor. They have a very good beer list. Draft and bottle. I enjoy eating here during lunch time when its not as crowded. Usually at dinner time sweenys becomes packed. Another nice thing about Sweenys. They have live music and on holidays they have specials on food and hold events here. Overall in Orange County. If you are looking for a real deal Irish experience. I recommend coming to Sweenys.
