I would surely recommend this business if you need something installed --and don't want to go through the business of wasting a morning talking to someone else, who will charge you more. Going with the cheapest quote was inaccurate, not up to code, and now costing me more. Alex spent his valuable Sunday evening to go over how I can resolve this billing dispute with the other contractor. I am sad I did not go with him, he was the most accurate quote, knowledgeable and said the extra work I was charged for was likely unnecessary. I really appreciate Alex taking the time and I am mad I did not go with him to complete my work.

Fortunately there wasn't any electric fire or shorts at the house's electric panel. My brother put out a bid on Yelp to find a capable electrician who could replace it at a reasonable cost and we decided on taking a shot with J Powers Electric. They showed up at the time of the appointment which is a big plus in my book and they gave me an estimated time of completion barring any unforeseen complications. The current outlet was replaced with a brand new GFCI outlet with an in use weather cover and everything went smoothly and quickly. In fact, if you have a wild idea for something that is unnecessary or costly, they'll tell you up front so you know in advance. In addition to doing things the right way, they're respectful. I've chatted with a few companies about various house projects and David and Jesse treated me (a woman) like my input matters just as much as my husband's. It signals competence, excellence, and professionalism when, even though I say "my husband is the boss," a contractor checks with me just in case. And, it prevents arguments down the road. Appreciate his organized setup and he arrived as promised. This first job was not a big job and I appreciate him coming out to fix the problem. This next jobs will be big and I feel confident that he can handle them with ease. Beware of bigger companies that come in and pull out all of your outlets and fixtures to scare you and then have you sign little tablets that do not let you read in a timely fashion what you are committing to. About 3 months after the Altadena fire I called Louie to upgrade our electrical panel to 200 amps. I was very pleased with the work ethic, quality of the work, and the attitude they bring to work. Louie and his team are very personable and easy to work with. As a result I recently called on Louie again to troubleshoot an other non-related electrical short. Louie is our trusted family electrician. Our home is from 1922 so we've needed some upgrading for sure. He was able to come in, get the work done, and maintain the structure of the house. The fairest price for a visit/diagnosis was Preferred Electric. But wait, so few ratings, how can I trust them? Looked up their license. In good standing, current and active for 35 years? So why not, I rolled the dice. George was not only on time but early. Friendly. Nice. And most important, diagnosed the issue on the spot, had the parts in his truck, and charged a genuinely fair price. Summary: The highest-rated electrician on Yelp is a scammer. And seriously professional guys like George, who only got around to Yelp recently (and so have few reviews) look like amateurs. When the reverse is definitely true in this case. If you've read this far? Hire Preferred with confidence. George will do you right.
