On a Friday night during dinner time, there were about 5 tables of people in here. The menu is rather large with anything from tacos and pasta to sandwiches and burgers. The mufango stuffed chicken was on the specials board without a price listed. We also ordered a Cuban sandwich. Most of the sandwiches come with fries but this one specifically listed fried plantains which is obviously the reason why you go to a Latin fusion restaurant anyway, right? The chicken ended up being on the high end of the price range. It was tasty, not to spicy and came with some plain black beans and rice and a slice of bread. The service was shit too. I had the plantains and the veggie burrito. It was a pretty simple meal hard to screw up. The plantains were about $5. For that much it should have been a good amount of them. Instead there were only a few. Also, they were almost floating in oil. That was a disaster so let's move on to the salad. It tasted like complete shit. The vegetables must have been canned. It was not a $9 burrito. The server was also not good as he messed up and didn't get the no cheese on the burrito so that made me wait for another shitty one. I want everyone to know Louie's sucks. Okay breakfast spot. Food was okay, nothing spectacular but nothing awful either. My mother had the machaca (slow roasted brisket, we hope!, with peppers, onion and a very bland ranchero sauce.) It lacked flavor, had good hints but nothing to liven the taste buds. I had never seen her add so much salt and condiments to her food before. The black beans had a (very) subtle touch of cumin but that was preferable to a cumin attack so prevalent in many Latino restaurants. I had the chilaquiles and fare a bit better: scrambled eggs with chorizo, poblano peppers, zucchini, corn and a very mild chipotle sauce. Service was very friendly and well paced. We tried Louie's during COVID and appreciate their safe and easy takeout practices. Louie's has a wide menu but I have only tried their fusion dinner items. You pay for chips and salsa and guacamole does not come with chips, so be mindful of your takeout order. The mofongo chicken is a standout for the unique flavors, quality ingredients, and large portion size. I went to this establishment as someone's guest, and I had no way of knowing that my friend was going to pick up the tab for my meal. Fusion is red-flag for me when it comes to food and restaurant service. It raises a host of questions: 1, Do the proprietors have a clear vision for their restaurant? 2, Do the proprietors have a clear vision of their clientele? My experience at Louie's Grill has done nothing to assuage me about the proprietors' lack of vision. It is clear from the look of the place, the setting and the furniture (tables, booth and chairs) so utterly pedestrian as if little or any thought was given to the restaurant's decor and comfort of its patrons. In a word, it was/is soulless. My perusal of the menu online should have been a tip-off as to what was to come with regard to the food. There's fusion and "putting a spin on things" and then there's this place, which has put a "180 degree" spin on dishes. I am an inveterate traveller/explorer touching down on all the world's continents, eating dishes from so many varied cultures and cuisines to learn about a country's people through its indigenous food and recipes. Food: Delicious and abundant. The menu had some creative meals and some traditional ones. The only downside was that some of the chips were slightly stale. Service: Overall the service from the gentleman who sat us and gladly let us sit at a large table outside in the shade( though there were only two of us) , to the server who was friendly and helpful was awesome. So, Louie's... It's been a while. I've always stopped by Louie's for Brunch/Breakfast, so you'll have to take my rating purely on that aspect. I've never dined in here past noon, but my morning experiences have never seemed to falter. Typically we're ordering the breakfast Quesadilla with Bacon, and some French toast bites with fruit, but I switched it up this past trip for the breakfast enchiladas with Chorizo, and it was extremely good, and made me kind of sad that I don't frequent this place that much anymore. Louie's would definitely be an excellent choice for hangovers zombies, and honestly is one of the last closest thing I can get to places like Surly Girl. Is it Cuban? I don't have the foggiest... Most likely not completely accurate, but I take this place over the numerous trips and bad experiences I've had at Starliner's old location with crappy quality, and horrid service. The service was good and typically always has been with the morning crew, and we can slip in and out of here in a jiffy, because of the large seating area. We're always greeted within a minute, and always told 'Good bye' on the way out. I still like Louie's. No changes, just the same old... decent Latin American inspired brunch destination. read more

A day later and I am still furious about this place! Outside it looks nice, inside more like a cafeteria with no thought or love put into it. Our waitress was nice and saved me from totally losing my cool but the "manager" a total b*tch! I ordered the Louis salad and my husband the bacon cheeseburger. I ordered the Veracruz and when they brought it out to me they said I would still have to pay the $9 for the first salad. Then it was on! I couldn't help but get loud, I refuse to pay for something I took one bite out of and sent back so I told them I didn't want the second salad, they told me now its made I will pay for both. Finally when the "manager" left our waitress said not to worry, to enjoy my salad and I would be charged only one salad. The veracruz was extreamly tiny, very sour and not a meal at all, it was simply lettuce, one strip of avocado and a ton of lime juice. Then on our bill was the $9 for the salad I didn't eat instead of the $7 for the salad I did eat. She told me she couldn't change it and that I should be happy I wasn't charged for both. Then We sked them to break a bill for us and she kept the change. We asked for change and she calculated her own tip and gave us change. So we asked for the tip back as well and left extreamly aggravated, what a horrible dinner, I really hope they close down, I saw them try to rip all the tables around us off by asking if they wanted chips and salsa, and only one couple caught on and asked if it was free, nope the rest of the patrons would be charged $2.75 for each bowl they get. We stopped by Louie's when Starliner Diner was estimating an hour wait. No thank you! I was actually surprised there weren't more people at Louie's, there were plenty of open tables around noon on a Saturday. The space was open and bright, definitely good for larger groups or kids. Overall the food was good, but nothing mind-blowing. We started with chips, salsa and queso ($4.50), which were all pretty good. Bummer we had to pay for chips but whatever. The salsa was good and had chunks of tomato and onion. Tasted pretty fresh! Bf opted for a burrito, which came with a super tasty salsa verde. Definitely good (and huge for around $9). I went with a small Veracruz salad ($5) and the Chile Rellenos from the appetizer menu ($8). The salad was very refreshing and bright, with lots of tartness coming from the lime vinaigrette and chopped tomatillos. The Chile Rellenos were good, but I was unprepared for the amount of cheese. I couldn't tackle both of them. I'm not a huge fan of smoky sauces (which this came with) but that's me, not them. Luckily we had a $5 off coupon from the Entertainment book, so we cashed that bad boy in. Overall an enjoyable casual and quick lunch, may stop back in if we're ever in the area but I doubt we'll ever go out of our way. read more

It has been awhile since I ate at Louie's but I wanted Jambalaya and ended up here. First the goods, service was prompt and very friendly, then came the food. Jambalaya was way over spiced, virtually like chef lost the lid on the spice jar and all ended up on the plate and wasn't used during the cooking. The shrimp and sausage was good, but the chicken pieces were under cooked and it was like chewing on the rubber, good thing I took care of my teeth when I was young. Onions were saggy and tasteless, the worst was the slice of bread which was dried up and old, smelled and tasted like mold, of course didn't eat that. Overall, absolutely no comparison to Jambalaya at the Starliner Diner which is excellent and tastes fresh. Well, I wouldn't brag about the Jambalaya in your menu, definitely not the best. read more

I had the chipotle crab chowder; a pretty big portion for a cup, and a fine chowder though I didn't get much heat from it. Followed with the Louie burger. I expected a blend of hamburg and chorizo, but the sausage was actually a little layer on top. Fine, but not amazing. The burger overall was solid, and though a bit smaller than a Thurman one, a good meal. Service was... slow, considering how empty the place was, but friendly. The food is it exceptionally good, I had jambalaya and it was good, just enough spices. The rice was good and the beans were good as well. However I think this business does not realize that there's still a pandemic going on. There's no dividers, all seats were filled no tables were being wiped down. Plastic menus were handed out. Everyone here is friendly and the service is on-point. Saturday night, and the restaurant was half-full when we got there. If you like Cuban bread, they sell it by the loaf here. My best tip for a great meal here is to order something that isn't tacos/burritos. They have "Cuban jambalaya," which the spouse likes a lot. I am partial to anything with their roasted pork, and I defaulted to that last night. So good, and even better the next day! Roasted poblanos, tender-roasted pork with a few jalapenos and lots of fresh cilantro sprinkled in. With their corn tortillas, it's just right. I got a Veracruz side salad, too. The spouse ordered the pork adobo - he liked it, very rich and deeply flavored. I went to LouiE's for a work lunch - they have a very large patio facing the street, which was perfect for a nice day. We had a table of 8 and the service was great. Three of us ordered the Veracruz salad- and the avocado, advertised on the menu, didn't come with the meal. We mentioned it to the server and immediately, three plates of perfect avocado slices were at our table. She did not skip a beat to provide excellent customer service. It's also good to mention that LouiE's isn't your average grill- they specialize in Cajun, Tex-Mex, and Cuban food, so they had a very unique, fusion menu. I added shrimp to my salad and it was perfectly seasoned to give a Cajun flavor. We also ordered the plantains as a starter and they were delicious! Their food ranges from breakfast to Mexican it's homemade and full of taste. The prices are reasonable a family of 4 could eat for 40 bucks. I would say that's a pretty good deal.
