    The chicken wings
    Robbie R.

I came here Father's Day weekend while I had some down time from work. My local friends took me here, never been. I guess this Chinese restaurant has been here like over 20 years. Service was friendly and the menu was a little different than your average American Chinese restaurant. It seemed to have a slight Thai influence, as I saw lemongrass and basil and cumin used in the food. These things you don't normally find in Chinese food, but you do in Thai. We tried the chicken lettuce wraps, fried chicken wings, combination pan fried noodles, pineapple fried rice, and the chicken curry. Most of the food was very good, I really liked the chicken wings, though I wish the wings were larger! The pan fried noodles were done well, all nice and crispy. But the one dish I would NEVER order again was the chicken curry. From the picture it was supposed to be chicken covered on a curry sauce and what looked to be served on a bed of steamed rice. THis is NOT what arrived at the table. WE got this big bowl of looked like curry soup with pieces of chicken in it, NOT like the chicken was the main ingredient of the dish, like you'd think chicken curry would be, but instead it was Curry with chicken, curry being the main element of the dish. It was like a Thai curry with chicken, which would have been sort of OK, but the taste was god awful! It lacked a real distinctive curry flavor and the pieces of chicken was all chopped up. I gotta say this was one of the worst dishes I ever tasted! The rest of the food was very good, so there's that saving Grace. I'll say get the chicken wings, but get them served on a plate, it normally comes in a plastic basket, that just makes the great wings look kinda cheap and too casual, like chips and salsa in a basket. I looks a lot better on a plate!

All right, so I was out running errands. I was famished and needed some grub on the double. This place just happened to pop up. I was trying to follow my GPS. I didn't see anything but if you keep following the road, you'll go behind a plaza and lo and behold, you will see the restaurant. My first visit was very nice. My waiter was very polite and provided very prompt service. I do like that. They have a lunch special. I believe it's daily up until 3 PM. I believe so far I tried their Mongolian beef and their chow mein. My only gripe was the eggrolls. No meat just veggies. However the lunch specials are pretty kind to the old wallet. Both times I have ventured here. I have had great service from the staff. Also, I really enjoyed my main dishes.

My favorite Chinese restaurant! Lulu and her team are true professionals! The quality of the food, service, and price are a fantastic value! My favorite dish of theirs is the boneless chili chicken. It's not common to have this dish offered at a Chinese restaurant, especially in a rural area. Grateful they are here in Carson Valley!

This Chinese restaurant is the epitome of no-frills. We were on our way home from road-tripping along US-395 and I wanted Chinese food. There weren't many places in the Gardnerville area but Louie's piqued my interest. I decided to give it a shot, especially after seeing that the lunch specials were only $10. In this economy, the price is hard to beat. It was a quiet Monday afternoon and we were one of only three tables having lunch. We already knew we wanted to have the lunch specials, so we ordered right away. I chose the curry shrimp and my husband chose the Mongolian beef. We had a choice of soup between hot and sour and egg flower. We both chose the hot and sour. Our hot and sour soups came to our table almost immediately. They had a good flavor, although I would have liked more tofu and mushrooms. Our lunch specials arrived shortly after. I was pleased with the portion sizes for what we paid. I was expecting more from the veggies that they mentioned in the menu, but for the price point I cannot complain. However, I would have liked to see more veggies in the fried rice as well as "wok hay", which sadly was nonexistent. Personally I feel that fried rice should come standard with veggies. If I had known I would have ordered white rice instead. My husband's Mongolian beef was excellent and had the classic flavor of the dish. I tried a bit of his food and was pleasantly surprised at the spiciness of the dish. My curry shrimp reminded me of the curry I grew up eating. The sauce had a nice consistency, although I would have liked it to be thicker. It was a bit watery at the end. There was a good amount of fat, juicy shrimp in the curry as well. However, again going with the above theme, I would have liked to see more veggies in the curry, especially potatoes. If you are in the Gardnerville/Minden area and want to enjoy a quiet lunch, Louie's is the place for you. Don't come here expecting anything fancy, but the lunch specials do their job, and nothing can beat the price. It's a solid 3.5 stars--and in terms of Chinese restaurants and Yelp averages, that fits the bill for Chinese food. We'd like to come back in the future to try more of their other entrees.

What a gem to find on our road trip to Tahoe! Food was very tasty and reminded us of our uncle's restaurant growing up. Service was great! The salt and pepper chicken wings are so good!

We were staying at the hotel next to the restaurant so this place was super convenient, we just walked over. We placed our order and went for a walk, the food was ready in 30 mins, we did order like 10 different plates though. Everything was pretty good but some of the portions were small. The food itself was good, just like most Chinese food spots.

After working in Downtown LA for 20+ years, I've eaten at some of the best "hole in the wall" Chinese restaurants. Louie's is very solid and matches up with many of those DTLA restaurants. I'm happy to find a local spot that has very good Chinese cuisine. Would recommend and will return.

This young man was the best. We were brought chips and salsa, and we also requested the extra spicy for the Hubby. The mild was perfect for me. The chips were nice and crunchy with a great corn flavor. We did order a sangria for me and a margarita for the hubby. They have a really nice lunch menu with great prices and a very extensive regular menu. I ordered the #6 off the lunch menu. A chili relleno with the sauce on the side and a crispy ground beef taco. The rice was so good, great flavor as well as the refried beans. 5 stars for each of these. The taco was so full of meat (ground beef) and fresh veggies. The chilli relleno was huge and perfectly cooked. I get my sauce on the side so leftovers will not get soggy. Now this sauce was like a ranchero sauce, looked like onions, celery and maybe tomatoes in it. It was really tasty. Hubby got a #13 off the regular menu. 1 enchilada, he got ground beef, 1 crunchy taco with ground beef and a tamale which was shredded beef. I tried the tamale and it was very delicious. We did ask to speak to the Manager who looked a bit nervous coming over. We explained to him it was our very 1st visit and won't be our last. We told him everyone wants to call you over to complain, we were like we wanted to give you major compliments on everything from the awesome waiter Ivan to the food and atmosphere. Music was at a perfect tone etc. We were seated by the bar area in a booth. Very nice in that area. We will definitely be going back

I had the sushi on the last trip, and this time I had the poke bowl. FANTASTIC!!! I was already planning what I was going to order on my next visit. The service is amazing. I think that is super fun and very cool. On a separate note. I walked out of the restaurant without my purse, and the waitress came running out to catch me. I wished I could give more stars just for that alone. I think it speaks volumes as to the quality of people that work there.

Our server was overwhelmed with 5 or 6 tables that appeared to have arrived just before us and so it was difficult getting her attention to ask about the poke or anything else. It didn't take long to figure out that if you want poke, you have to get up from your table and order it at the counter. This was confusing, BUT, the poke was fantastic! I didn't get a picture of it because we were sharing but they had so many toppings that other poke places don't have. We also ordered black garlic ramen, lumpia, the upside down shrimp nigiri, and a miso soup. I wasn't a fan of the miso, it was too watery and lacked flavor. The upside down shrimp nigiri wasn't great either, it was really difficult to eat and impossible to pick up with chopsticks (I had to pick it up with my fingers) but did have good flavor. The lumpia were very good- a little small/very thin but still delicious. The ramen was fantastic! The broth had some of the best flavor I've had in ramen! Our server was very sweet and was trying her best to keep up with her tables but she did forget a couple things and was def overwhelmed. We will 100% be coming back for the poke and the ramen.

The receptionist let us know that they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. So we decided to try it out first night. We were ready to be out of the car for the day and just walk over. We were told by the hostess that the restaurant was closed to a large party for a family reunion until 7:30, but we could order off the full menu at the bar. We were very happy with our experience here. The bartender/server was very welcoming and friendly. He first said they were in the middle of changing over their wine and beer offerings and was ready to share today's offerings. He didn't rush us at all on ordering and timed out our appetizer, salad, then main course perfectly. We started with the stuffed button mushrooms- so yummy. Then we shared a ceaser salad with large grilled prawns on top- he had the kitchen split it in the back for us. Such a nice touch My hubby ordered the bison burger MR- it was cooked perfectly and the fries were hot and crispy I ordered the DWR veggie pasta- so, so yummy. I'm still thinking about it days later dnd hoping to get in here to eat again before we leave. The sauce is so lemony and perfect. It's a huge portion- so I was able to take more then 1/2 back to our condo with me and work on over the next few days. Our server took time to welcome us and visit with us when he wasn't busy. Also sharing some of his favorite other restaurants in the area so we had places to eat on the days 1862 is closed. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and clean. As was the restroom.
