It's going to be a hunan no for me. I am fairly new to the area and was looking for some grub on the cheap. Also was feeling like some Chinese food would hit the spot and saw that they had lunch specials. The hostess didn't say much, sat me at the table and then left. There was one other table with folks there that already had the meal so I was sitting at the table with no menu, wondering what's going on. I walked out front and grabbed my own menu she asked if I was going to order. I think I ordered Mongolian beef. She brought it to my table and then headed out to wherever she was at. The beef itself wasn't bad but a few pieces of meat, next to a mountain of onion. I was kind of over it at this point so I had my rice and dug through the onion pile to get my few pieces of beef, paid my tab & hit the exit. Kind of reluctant to try the buffet. Looking at the photos of the menu while talking to some lady on the phone tells me to look at the dinner options in the square boxes on the menu the option I'm looking at says that it's $15.95 per person I order for four people. My wife goes and picks up and gets charged $96. After calling the restaurant back to ask, how do they get to $96 the lady on the phone tells me that it's my fault that I'm looking at an old picture. Now there is more than one pitcher of what I'm looking at, and the prices are all different. Never told me a total when putting my order in over the phone. read more

If I could, I would survive on noodles and rice. Shhh... don't tell my trainer, and I hope he's not reading this or I'm in trouble. My cheat days consist of: Chinese food, Mexican, or sushi. Usually, in that order. They offer a buffet here with a decent variety or a la carte for those of you like myself with little to no willpower when it comes to carbs. I placed an order to go for the house chowmein. It has all the meats: shrimp, chicken, beef, and pork. It was a decent portion that I was able to share it with my lil man. It was on the greasy side, but it had great flavor. I would eat here again and hopefully have more time next time I'm passing through or working in the area to sit down and take my time. I did peep the dining room and they offer both booth and table seating in lighting dimmed atmosphere. **Do try their hot Chilli oil if you're a fan. ** My order was given to me 5 minutes later piping hot. Went here for lunch. Got the buffet, because it was so reasonable. That was the first mistake. Should have known. There's a reason I don't do buffets. The food was not even warm. We were headed back north up the 395 from Topaz and as we entered Gardnerville I was thinking about some lunch. A friend told me of a little hole in the wall Chinese buffet that was decent and cheap. We found Hunan Chinese in a strip mall next to Raley's supermarket. Looking inside, yep, this is a pretty small buffet, but as long as the food is good, what the heck? It was $13 per person inc. tax, I guess they priced it that way to get an even number and less giving out coin change. The selection had many of the standard stuff, like egg rolls, pot stickers, general chicken, broccoli beef and surprisingly at this price point 3 shrimp dishes, deep fried, "butter" shrimp" and fried whole shrimp. All the food was hot and fresh tasting, and the server cleared the plates each time we went back up to the buffet. While this wasn't the biggest fancy buffet, it was small but we still had our fill and agreed the price was right for what you get here. There is also a regular menu available for made to order food of many things that were not on the buffet, even the usual lunch specials. I thought the buffet was a better deal. read more

Not a huge buffet but enough selections. Good service and item trays are frequently filled. Very enjoyable.

The buffet here is very well managed. They cook smaller amount more often so the food is fresher. The food has a very good flavor and they have a good variety of beef, chicken, shrimp items. The service is quick but a bit rushed. Overall the value for the money is awesome. We will be back!!! read more

The food is very tasty. The first time I went it was about 11:30. Everything was hot and fresh. Second time, it was between 4 and 4:30. Not a good time to go. You get what was left from lunch. You can taste the difference. By 5 all is fresh and really good. You can also order from the menu and get it freshly made. Staff is really nice. I liked the atmosphere there. read more

We have eaten here maybe 4 times since we moved here and do like it. It's not a gourmet restaurant, but for a quick and filling meal, it's enjoyable. They mostly keep the trays filled, and if something is empty they'll make sure to get it filled asap. It's also kept clean so I don't have to worry about food spilled all over the buffet area, which I always hate. I like their pot stickers, although I do wish they would cook them a little more crispy, plus I love the dipping sauce they make. Most places make some kind of weird dipping sauce, so I always make my own from soy sauce and white vinegar. They actually make theirs from white vinegar, soy sauce and a bit of ginger, which isn't too strong, so I never have to make my own. I also like their green beans as they're always crispy soft; never over cooked or raw. It's reasonably priced and worth the cost. It's not the place we go to when we want top of the line, super delicious Chinese food, but when we want a variety of Chinese choices, at a reasonable price, this is our go to. I live about 3 minutes away and when I've had a busy day and don't want to cook this is my go to restaurant. I'm in and out in 25 minutes or less with a full tummy and my Chinese food cravings are satisfied. And my wallet is happy! The staff is very attentive. We ordered take out for work at the hospital. The soy sauce for 7 orders was shared between two cups that spilled in the bag. The fried rice for all the orders (both sides and the shrimp and veggie fried) didn't seem at all fried. It was like buttered white rice with some small bits of scrambled egg in it. Visited my parents this weekend and we really wanted some Chinese food, and I have to say it's some of the better Chinese takeout I've had in a while, which I was not expecting for Gardnerville. We got the Hong Kong dinner special for 3 people, and it seriously could serve 5-6 people. The portions were big; they really packed it in there! My favorites were the black bean shrimp (perfectly cooked shrimp and lots of it) and the bbq ribs (so tender!!). I was pleasantly surprised that every meat whether it was shrimp or pork was tender and not over cooked or dry which I struggle with at some places. Overall a great deal and good food! read more

Hands down the best restaurant in Gardnerville. Not only was the food incredibly delicious and flavorful but the large portions for the low price makes Hunan Chinese Restaurant a superior dining experience. While they do have an expansive buffet which offers soups, main course items, appetizers, and dessert; we opted to order directly from the menu. Best Chow Mein in town, and they also offer Mu Shi (which grew up knowing as Mu Shu, but it could be a dialect thing). I LOVE that flavor. Unfortunately, neither of those are offered on their GrubHub menu. Driving 7hrs to Reno from Vegas is a very refreshing experience after stopping here for the first morsels of food in hours. The all you can eat for $13 is ultimately unmatched by any restaurant almost ever. Amazing wait staff, they're always extremely attentive after finishing a plate and when beverages are needed refilled. The chow mein is really a great ratio and the sweet and sour sauce is really phenomenal when paired with anything, especially the egg rolls!! 10/10 recommend this to anyone passing through the valley needing a good pick me up. read more
