We genuinely like the food here. The poke bowls are consistently good, the lumpia and pork dumplings are solid, and the house ramen is a reliable choice. The owner and his wife clearly work hard in the kitchen and care about the product. Service is the ongoing problem. It routinely takes a long time to get an order placed. Staff rarely check on the table. Water refills can take 20-30 minutes, so we usually get our own. Food is often delivered by a robot whose shelves look unclean, and tips are still expected. Order mistakes happen often enough that we factor them in before we decide to come. The lumpia in the photo were mostly fine, but one arrived mangled and should not have been served. The poke bowl was excellent. We still stop in because it is the closest place for sushi or poke. When we have extra time we drive farther for the same food with better service. The kitchen is capable. The front of house needs real attention. read more

Had dinner here last night and the food was good. We found ourselves a bit confused when we sat down because Poke is in the restaurant name, but poke is not on the menu! Our server was overwhelmed with 5 or 6 tables that appeared to have arrived just before us and so it was difficult getting her attention to ask about the poke or anything else. It didn't take long to figure out that if you want poke, you have to get up from your table and order it at the counter. This was confusing, BUT, the poke was fantastic! I didn't get a picture of it because we were sharing but they had so many toppings that other poke places don't have. We also ordered black garlic ramen, lumpia, the upside down shrimp nigiri, and a miso soup. I wasn't a fan of the miso, it was too watery and lacked flavor. The upside down shrimp nigiri wasn't great either, it was really difficult to eat and impossible to pick up with chopsticks (I had to pick it up with my fingers) but did have good flavor. The lumpia were very good- a little small/very thin but still delicious. The ramen was fantastic! The broth had some of the best flavor I've had in ramen! Our server was very sweet and was trying her best to keep up with her tables but she did forget a couple things and was def overwhelmed. Prices seemed a pinch high (in retrospect I should have gotten the all you can eat for $38 for dinner but it was just shy of 3:30pm and I didn't know how much I'd be eating because I didn't know what to expect size wise for the rolls). The server was not as proactive as I would have liked but I believe the young man may have been new (for example after seating us and taking our drink orders he asked us if we were dining in or taking out). The sushi chefs were fast. The robot waiter was... reliable and musical lol. The food was good. The miso soup tasted particularly good and I enjoyed my sunshine roll. This roll included unagi and it was really good quality fresh eel. The tempura shrimp in crystal roll however was made with a thick and very crunch batter-- not the light and crisp tempura I'm used to. My husband enjoyed his ramen. He said the noodles were a bit thicker and chewier than he was used to, and the broth definitely made ginger a star note, but he enjoyed it. The ambiance is nice. It's a clean restaurant with soft music playing and a nice atmosphere. They even have some large toys in the waiting area for kids to enjoy which I thought was especially thoughtful of the owners. Overall, I'd like to return and try the different offerings of nigiri on the AYCE plan. I also noticed they had some interesting rolls-- for example, some included honey mustard! I would echo a previous review that the food here might taste better than many sushi places in Reno (can't say if it would beat my favorite spot without trying more fish, but the freshness and quality of their unagi was a strong indicator that this place might be able to put up a good fight against my favorite spot in Reno). read more

Well after a second visit to this restaurant, I can honestly say this will definitely be in our normal rotation of places to eat. The food here is always fresh and delicious. I had the sushi on the last trip, and this time I had the poke bowl. FANTASTIC!!! I was already planning what I was going to order on my next visit. The service is amazing. All the employees are helpful, friendly, and honestly happy to be there. There are plenty of tables to sit at, and if you are lucky a little robot will deliver your food. I think that is super fun and very cool. On a separate note. I walked out of the restaurant without my purse, and the waitress came running out to catch me. I wished I could give more stars just for that alone. I think it speaks volumes as to the quality of people that work there. read more

Wife and I had a really hard time finding a local sushi spot that was as good as some in Reno/Carson and Sakura may beat them all. We've been here a total of 4 times and each time has been amazing. Both regular sushi and cooked sushi roles had good proportions and tasted fantastic. PLUS they have freaking ramen. Fantastic food and friendly staff. Ordered 4 long rolls and only got 3. Waitress said 4th was on its way. 30 minutes later the manager/owner said it still wasn't ready, so I gave up waiting. After paying the food charges with my card, I saw on the printed receipt that they gave themselves a 25% tip that was not on the card reader screen. This ruined my fading positive view of this place. I'm leaving a 1 star because when we walked in we hadn't gotten seated till after 5 minutes when they finally noticed us. The restaurant was empty. From walking in you could tell the place wasn't the cleanest. The table we sat at was still dirty and did not get picked up you could tell from the floor of our table. Upon being seated we did not recieve menus, napkins, nor wasabi or ginger which is usually a common courtesy at every sushi restaurant I've been too. We had to grab our own menus from a different table as well as utensils. We weren't provided with all the above we had to ask for it. Not once did we get checked on. We had to keep asking and calling out for one of the staff. Mind you, there were only 2 other tables. About 4 floor servers, couple chefs, and back of house people. And not once were we checked on. The food was decent but some things were too overpowering or overwhelming on the tongue. We decided on calling it a day and waited for a check. The check had taken another 15 minutes to arrive. At around this time there was only one other table of a couple young girls. These young girls (about 12-16 yr old) were getting superior treatment check was there on time everything on time while we had basically been forgotten about. At the end they missed some of our rolls we ordered but we decided on not saying anything since we were already not comfortable. I've been to many other AYCE sushi restaurants and have received 5 star service. This place is supposedly the "best" and rated highly. The sushi rolls need to be worked on as well. I've been to several sushi places and I know what's good and what's bad. I don't see how it would be the best. To conclude I don't recommend this place one bit. Ambiance isn't it nor service. I dined in for AYCE sushi last week while in the Minden/Gardnerville area. I sat at the bar, sushi chefs switched not once, but three times during my lunch. They were great with getting my food out. The bar seating was a little awkward, I felt it was too low and has a hard time conversing with the sushi chefs making my food. I didn't mind that there was only another couple dining, but no one picked up my empty plates or refilled my drink at all. I'd give less stars based solely on that one factor alone, but the sushi chefs made up for the front of the houses lack of service. Prices are a tad bit pricier than our local sushi joints for ayce lunch. They also offer a poke bar with a variety of toppings. If I didn't have time to kill, I would have tried a bowl. I'm not sure if it's their rice, but I left completely bloated. I'd be willing to try a poke bowl. I may just stick to my regular sushi spots for ayce. read more

This dining experience was awkward from the moment we walked in. With no host near the door the three parties queued up had to basically yell their party size to a server across the restaurant. The bento box has a gyoza or lumpia option. When the two bento dinners arrived very late they were not correct. The teriyaki chicken seemed to have a dry rub. It had almost no teriyaki taste. The spicy tuna hand roll was good. Their rainbow roll was OK. It's miniature size was disappointing. The servers we had seemed preoccupied. The room is large. In this weeknight the place was moderately busy. They have a robotic food vehicle that brought some of our items. This restaurant needs to focus on the basics: -- Greet their diners with a smile -- Pay greater attention to each order/ detail -- Assure that the meal items (bento boxes in our case) arrive with more urgency. -- Forget the robot gimmick and open a cookbook to learn now to make teriyaki sauce. read more

At the end of my order she told me that it's best to just come in for poke because when it's called in it really sets them back. Well can I get a hallelujah! I'm happy. I live minutes away from our new favorite sushi joint! Everything is yummy. The nigiri is fresh and full of flavor. The rolls are big, and the sushi chef's are fast, and that's important for AYCE! Doesn't matter how many people are at the sushi bar, chef asks " what else can I get you" before you are done with the last plate! No lag time, so folks on their lunch hour can get a belly full of sushi and make it back to work in time, and you even get dessert with the AYCE! Dessert after sushi? Absolutely! I hate giving reviews like this but maybe this can get them back on the right track. My husband gave me an option of where I wanted to eat for my birthday and I decided here. I love me some sushi. We seat ourselves. There was 4 of us but given 2 menus. First thing I noticed was it was new menus. Very nice I thought but the prices were a bit confusing. I didn't see how much the All you Can Eat price either. A young man showed up with a tablet. We ordered our food. No alcohol since no liquor license which disappointed my husband but that's okay. We asked for water and was given them in plastic cups. We asked for hot tea and was given a dirty cup. We waited and about 15 minutes later a lady dropped off one of my rolls while delivering rolls to another table. I waited to eat since no once else had their food. Plus, we were not given wasabi or ginger yet. Looking around they had 2 other young men looking like they were bussing the tables after people leave. Another 5 minutes another roll was left. I kept having to ask which one it was. Still no wasabi. Then another 5 minutes my mom ramen was delivered. We finally had to get up and all for the ginger and wasabi. My daughter got the lumpia egg rolls. I was excited to start eating while still waiting for the other stuff I ordered. I went to take my first bite and the sushi fell apart. It was like that for that whole roll. Started on my other and again, it was not rolled properly and was falling apart. My husband said his was falling apart. My mother tried her ramen was said it was too salty. My daughter and mom switched their food. My daughter thought the Ramen was okay. The lumpia was good. No one ever can by to clear our dirty dishes. My husband had to get up and get more water. The lady asked if I wanted my dessert. I told her yes. She brought it by and set it down in front of me while all the dirty plates surrounded us. Not sure if we will be back. read more

Its been a while since we've been in the restaurant (since before they served sushi) and the poke bowls are delicious but today we ordered sushi for the first time. It was fantastic! My fiance had the mussels and a Marlon roll and I had yakitons and a bluewave. Everything tasted fresh and had great flavor. My fiance picked up the order and said the restaurant looked really nice and they even had a robot bring you your food..pretty cool! We will definitely be returning more often! read more

Personally I'm pretty pampered when it comes to sushi because my grandpa would make me sushi and the sushi rice vinegar he made was homemade. We ordered a normal California rolls and I forgot what the other roll was but it had shrimp tempura in it. The only critique I have about the rice is that it has too much vinegar in it, so much so that I can't eat more than 5 bites without tapping out and not eating it. I'm pretty sure everyone goes for the poke bowls but it kind of intimidates me because of all the ingredients that you can add. The bento boxes on the other hand are awesome and has a lot of variety. Great place to stop at on the way thru town. They are super quick and easy, portions are good, never crowded. I always get the poke bowl, they have sit down tables and rolls also. Staff is always friendly. Food is pretty fresh. Last time I was in there I got albacore and it was not fresh or cut very well, so that was disappointing but the ahi seems to be. I wish the case was set up so you can see the setup and food. I like to see which fish and items are the freshest before I order it. Salad is always crisp and not wilted like some other poke spots.
