Louie's makes the best pizza in our area and it's our go-to place on Friday and Saturday nights. There's often music upstairs or on the back patio. Do not expect to ever be greeted at the door, these people do not have a clue how to be professional, we have been in there several times, not once has any employee ever greeted us, now the pizza is ok. We have eaten there out of convenience only. When we have time and feel like real pizza we usually drive to Glennwood Springs, Rocky mountain pie company is worth the drive, real pizza, real professional service. read more

Well, is ready here about twice as often but I can't seem to get there when they're open!! Lol This pizza place is smack dab in the middle of downtown paonia with a clean bicycle themed inside. The server pizza and sandwiches, as well as salads. Everything I've had here is very good, especially their pizza. I'm especially jazzed about the combination and quality of cheeses that they use, and their dough is better than most places here or even in Denver. They also sell beer, some of which they carry on tap (for those beer snobs like the wifey). The staff here is always seems to be the same when I go, and they are always friendly and genuinely seem happy, an often underrated quality of a staff, and type of thing that rubs off on the clientele. I did, however, see something once (as they have an open kitchen) that concerned me as most states consider touching post-cooked items with bare hands a violation, and it was right after he touched my money and his face. I know I can be critical but this is a non-starter if you ask me. One complaint that I have is their hours, they open for lunch then close until dinner, and I can't ever seem to remember what times they start and stop so they miss my business about half the time. It's understandable in a town of less than 1,500 people, but frustrating considering I have zero cell service in the Tri-town area(Crawford, Hotchkiss, Paonia). I've also tried calling in a pick up order from home once when they were open, but no one answered. In all, I really like this joint. Despite the one food handling faux pas I do recommend trying this place out; good food, good location, good vibes. 4.5 stars if I could, but I can't give them 5 yet. read more

This restaurant is very hip and the building itself is very clean and the people are friendly. They offer more than just pizza, and I have had their curry sandwich. It was a nice, creative sandwich! I enjoyed it. The pizza is decent, and good for local pick-up, but the prices are a little high. Over all, I would recommend it if you were in the mood for local pizza, but just be prepared to pay up. read more

Great pizzas. I'm vegan so I get the garden pizza without cheese and there are enough vegetables on there to satisfy. The bar upstairs is great but I must say that the staff I've encountered (people taking phone orders and pickup) has always been less than pleasant. Roy 'The Hungry Englishman' So let's make one thing clear, Paonia is a tiny little town, totally wonderful of course but in this small town the choice is extremely limited, that said some of the places we have tried thus far have really surprised us in a very pleasant way. So now to 'Louie's Pizza' and my somewhat lack luster two stars. The place and staff are all fine and what you would expect of a nice small town local place, nothing pretentious about this place but that's the way I like it. The pizza was okay and there in lies the problem! The pizza was somewhat undercooked and very bland indeed. Let's be honest this is pizza 'not' rocket science! The secret to a really cracking pizza is the dough. Some of the great pizzas I have tried I just wanted to munch on the crust alone, 'yes' it really can be that good. Of course the sauce is just as important and once you have the crust and sauce down really the toppings are just extra. It seems all too often pizza restaurants rely too heavily on the toppings alone to give the pizza a good flavor this is a incorrect assumption. Let me be honest I really am no chef but I'm sure that a few minuets searching on line for an authentic flavorful recipe and some effort in the kitchen and I could probably produce a passable pizza, so why do professional restaurants so often missing the mark? I will say it again "it's not rocket science"...! Now back to Louie's, I really have no intention to beat up on this local joint, if you are desperate for a pizza and don't have high expectations then by all means give them a try. Would I go back? Well if I was desperate yes of course I wold, but then again if I was in the middle of the Sahara desert and desperate I would drink from a pool of putride camel urine. I really want to see Louie's up their game a little, better dough, better source, more seasoning and more time in the oven. Wow. Puzzling experience. My husband placed a frustrating phone order, so this should've been a good indication as to how the rest of the exchange was going to be. The girl who answered the phone could not answer basic questions like, "how many does your large pizza/salad feed" and it took 12 minutes to get the to-go order placed just trying to get simple answers out of her. Upon pick up, we were not greeted, so we just stood at the front door. The gal standing at the register asked "something" while we were visiting and I asked if she was talking to us. She blankly said "uh, yeah." I said I was here to pick up and she quickly turned around to retrieve our to-go order. The next words out of her mouth was the total. I asked for parm and pepper flakes to take with us and you would've thought I asked for the holy grail. Apparently they do not provide and they don't have to-go ramekins (had to explain "ramekin"). For a minute I thought I was being punked. I was fascinated with the nasty attitude and shamefully rude service. This gal was obviously having a bad day. I would've given one star but the pizza and salad were both surprisingly good! The salad comes in large leaves... so prepare to chop yourself. But everything was really good. You have to go through hell to get it... but here's to hoping someone else serves you. Cheers! read more

I took visiting town I stopped in for a quick bite. Was hoping for gluten-free pizza which I saw they had the crest for that found it would take a lot longer than expected because they have to make that from scratch. I ended up having a salad which was mediocre not bad not good just a salad so my hunger was staved but nothing to impress much. I'll probably go back for pizza at some point to test out the crust. Excellent NY style pizza! Just the right combo of ingredients brought back memories of my favorite childhood pizzeria back home. Very flavorful. I was visiting Paonia for the annual motorcycle rally. If you like great pizza and beer or wine. Loui's has it. Some great music rolls in to Loui's and the upstairs is set up to dance the night away. Italian, Mexican and Asian foods in my opinion are subjective meaning one person says there idea of mexican tacos are the best but if you try them you may not think so. I came out of the Windy City people think Chicago pizza is the best. Now if your from NYC you think your pizza is the best. Get my point? So I live in Paonia and think the Pizza at Loui's rocks. If you want pizza , beer and music come here. Don't bitch about the hours it's Paonia we like it laid back here. And most of the people that post negative reviews post negative reviews ALL the time.
