Service was great but the food was fairly dismal. Avocado on top of my eggs, Benedict came out, not just a little discolored or a spot or two here but very brown with black spots on each slice quite an egregious and gross mistake. Average diner style food at a slightly higher price point. Food is average with no unique flavor profile to separate themselves from other diners. Staff is nice and attentive. I came a couple times trying breakfast items and everything tasted basic. I was a little surprised at the price point especially with an older adult customer base. This place is awesome. Huge portions. Everything was super tasty. Staff was great - accommodated the child and made us a fresh pot of decaf. We had the tamales and the Golden Benedict. On the weekends, they do pozole, which I really need to figure out how to take home for the evening. Green chili was good too. The location is a little weird as when you drive in, it doesn't feel like you are in a place where a restaurant might be (but you are, so go in). Super simple look and feel inside. An awesome breakfast cafe with all the classics and some mexican choices too. I went with the eggs, sausage, hashed potatoes and pancakes. It hit the spot after our early morning hike. We arrived shortly after 9 and the place was full, however, we were seated quickly. Our orders were taken and within 15 minutes our food was delivered. The staffis friendly and attentive. The prices were normal, not astronomical like what you find on downtown Golden. I appreciated the cleanliness and how the staff worked together to keep thinga flowing and clean. Good food, the service was really, really bad. We waited for a very long time to be asked what drinks we would like, and even longer to place our order. I asked for Tabasco twice and was ignored. It took forever to get our check as well. They were busy, yes, but did not seem short staffed. They also did not want to give a group of 6 a large open table for a reason that made no sense to them or us. The biscuits and gravy combo was good, and my son enjoyed the meat and eggs. This cafe is relatively small, but there were enough tables to keep us socially distanced, while several people came in to pick up their orders. Their menu is expansive -- they have baked foods and vegan options too. In addition to traditional breakfast items, they also offered a variety of tex-mex fusion dishes too, like breakfast burritos. I decided to order one of their skillets, which had potatoes and several toppings on a heated skillet. My meal also came with a stack of pancakes, which I didn't even touch because my meal was so filling. For less than $15, you really get a generous portion! With a Yelp check-in, you even get a free muffin! Although our server didn't check on us frequently, we still had a great meal at Louis' Cafe. read more

Great Saturday Morning at Louis Cafe. My family and I came here for breakfast and it was nothing short of awesome. We came in and got seated right away. Our waitress was so attentive and made sure our drinks stayed full the entire time. Coffees refilled without having to ask. My husband & I went to Louis' Cafe on Monday for late breakfast (we live in Grand Lake), and we both had the Greek Skillet & boy was that ever delicious & their green chili is gluten free. This cafe has consistently been really good & great service & you really cannot best the prices. We are gluten free & can order the GF toast. The only thing I can think of improving on is to make sure to give some butter with the GF toast. Our server Mariela? (Not sure if I am spelling her name correctly) has been there for 8 years & has always been great...very nice & efficient. We highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Finally made it back! It's a very busy Sunday and the atmosphere has a great energy. The service was friendly if a bit slow but, given the table of 8 or so beside me, I can understand. Checked in to Yelp to start my breakfast with the free muffin and chose the Cranberry Orange. So very good! Light and not overly filling at all. I did not get too much of the Orange but, it was still quite tasty. Reading my original review, I see that I had the Rellenos with green chile and realize now that the green chile is, unfortunately for me, not vegetarian...I so wanted to get these again because they are delicious but, not even the same without the chile. So, I opted for the veggie breakfast burrito which was perfectly sized, not over stuffed and filled with fresh grilled veggies. I love when I get a burrito like this and can taste the veggies - often it just gets lost in the mix. Salsa is still on point and so good, the fresh tortillas are amazing, and the hash browns cooked to perfection. Great place to stop in for a to-go coffee or tea and pastry too! Next time, I will need to check the lunch menu out for the veggie melt sandwich. The lunch menu is quite extensive for the non-vegetarians and offers a great variety. You'd never assume a small restaurant like this jammed into an office building would have great food. Louis' cafe isn't anything new, but it sure as hell does breakfast diner places justice in terms of it's quality, selection and price. On our most recent visit, we ordered the chicken fried chicken, a side of cornbeef hash and the mexican skillet. All were fantastic in their own right - the chicken fried chicken was crispy, with perfectly over easy eggs and a stack of potatoes. The cornbeef hash wasn't exactly what I expected, I think every place has their own interpretation of what cornbeef hash is/should be. This place has a mix of corn beef (almost paste-like), fried alot with potatoes. The overall rendering is a salty, savory great mix, and all for the side order price of $3! The mexican skillet was outstanding. WIth your typical breakfast fare drenched in their home made green chili, it hit all the right flavor profile for a wonderfully tasty skillet. The free muffin you get from your first check-in was surprisingly good. Moist, full of flavor - I couldn't believe you'd even get one of these for free! The service was rapid and constant, with the server checking in on us every few minutes, I never felt like there was a lapse in service. You can't beat a place like this - extremely reasonable prices for your everyday company man, flavorful well-done food, fantastic service.
