Great find driving back home today from Indy! Missed breakfast by a couple minutes but had a great cheeseburger and awesome onion rings.

I had a Great breakfast here! Eggs,bacon, sausage patties, shredded hash browns & toast, coffee. All very good and the sausage patties seemed to be especially good quality, not greasy and great flavor. Very clean bathroom & dining area. Waitress may have been one of the owners and was cheerful and has good sense of humor. read more

Used to really like this place food is good service is good the last 2 times in a week I have ordered the special and it has been cold. I had Lassagne the first time and it was cold. The second time I had sloppy Joe and my husband had ham and beans both were cold. I guess I shouldn't order the special anymore, maybe that's why it's a special? In the past I have ordered off the menu, no special and it was very good. Cloverdale needs some decent food so please don't blow it! read more

I started this great restaurant's first review. It is a great little resturant that is a local favorite. The owner of the convenience store has decided not to renew Lou's Diners's contact. He has decided he wants to start his own restaurant in the store. He is trying to steal her staff and cooks. They are all supporting Lori and will follow her to her new location. Her last day is October 30. I plan on never eating at the new restaurant. It shouldn't take long for the new store to close after having dinner here tonight and hearing all the support for Lou's Diner that is operated by Lori . Just stopped for lunch. Very good! Special of the day Stuffed green peppers. Husband had while I ordered a cup of green pepper soup ands Rueben sandwich. "Big".cup of soup was very good. What a great little diner! The place was packed for lunch. Super friendly staff. All food made from scratch! I had the meatloaf and it was really really good, and a huge portion. I was unable to finish it all. The Waitresses knew almost all the regulars and lots of kibitzing back and forth. A very relaxed atmosphere. The Yelp reviews were way off on Lou's Diner unless we just had a bad experience. We stopped by Lou's for lunch today and was not impressed at all. My husband's onion rings were not done at all--the batter was not completely cooked, his cheeseburger with bacon was pretty good, I had the meatloaf, macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. The macaroni and cheese didn't have hardly any cheese except for the shredded cheese on top, the meatloaf was bland. My daughter had the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and she didn't like her meal at all. The staff was very friendly. Not sure what I think about the bathrooms not having any doors at all. read more

The waitresses were all friendly, the food was fresh, and the prices are the best. Definitely ask for the specials. I highly recommend stopping in if you're near by. I got the deluxe blt, a full chef salad, and cherry pie. I will stop by here next time I am in Cloversale!! read more

Needed a quick dinner while driving across the state. Lou's was perfect! Service was fast and friendly, the menu is limited - mostly sandwiches & burgers, nothing fancy, but I enjoyed the lasagna special and the prices were really cheap! Was just what we needed. read more

When we're road tripping, we like to try small town diners. On 8/20/20 we were winding down a two week motorcycle trip from the Midwest, up to NY, Maine and Boston. We had stopped at several diners during this trip. While we enjoyed many of the diners, Lou's Diner was our favorite. We were warmly welcomed as soon as we entered for lunch. And it wasn't just by one employee but three. They made us feel right at home. The complimentary dinner rolls are truly scrumptious. The coffee was wonderful. HotRod was our server and she was excellent! She kept my coffee topped off and my husband's soft drink never ran dry. HotRod was very personable. The three women that I saw serving got along very well. They were playful with each other and kept the customers happy. My meatloaf meal was decent. My husband says his three cheese mega grilled cheese was very good. The onion rings are battered in house. The serving is piled high and boy are they good. They served them with a special sauce they make that is also delicious. So glad we stopped in. The food is good and the staff are so friendly. It's exactly the type of diner we look for. If you find yourself in the area, you really should give this place a try. read more

Randomly found this place while looking for lunch. It's just off the highway. I order a bacon cheeseburger, it was cooked perfectly. The guys that were traveling with me also enjoyed their sandwiches. One had a club sandwich that looked great and the other had the pulled pork. The pork sandwich had a bbq sauce that was just sweet and just vinegary enough and it had a nice smoked flavor to it. We also ordered a basket of mushrooms and a basket of fried pickles. Recommended recently by two different friends. We went there tonight with friends and we found the food to be exceptional. My wife and I shared one breaded tenderloin with an extra bun and an onion ring appetizer. Both were exceptional and more than we could eat. All four of us could have shared the appetizer portion. Our friends had the chopped steak and chicken tenders and our friend said the chopped steak was the best she had. Deserts were excellent including peanut butter pie and a cheesecake (cheesecake was only desert not home-made). Servers were excellent and we also chatted with the owner who was very friendly. Enjoy a regular simple great diner breakfast here. Husband had a terrific omelet & hasbrowns. I had my eggs running perfectly into my hashbrowns. Hot coffee. We loved it. Definitely a down home place to eat. Hot Rod was our upbeat waitress and an interesting person. We did not feel confident to find a breakfast place nearer to the Tesla charger we were heading to. Stopped for a late lunch in our travels back toward St. Louis and was not disappointed. Small fried chicken salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, grated cheese and hard boiled egg was plenty big; breaded mushrooms were great; club sandwich also great, and triple cheese sandwich was also tasty! The food was great along with the prices. Has the atmosphere of a small diner. Only has around 10-15 tables total. If it is busy, good luck getting a seat (Sunday's after Church). I ordered the Tenderloin 5/5 stars...the Breaded mushrooms 5/5 stars and a side of Onion Rings 5/5 stars. My only complaint was from the waitress staff themselves. Their hospitality could have been better in my opinion. My feeling from them was just "Hurry up and order, let's go" this is when it wasn't even busy at around 2:00 on a Monday afternoon. However with the elderly "regular' customers they seemed warm and friendly so I don't know for sure what was going on? Overall I'd recommend this to anyone passing through Cloverdale or even to the local residents of the town since the rest of the eateries in town are mostly fast food joints. read more

We ate at Lou's diner last Sunday morning about 10 o'clock. It is a typical "hole in the wall" restaurants ....my favorites places to stop. Service was very friendly and fairly quick. The biscuits and gravy were the bomb! Will definitely go back again. Prices were very reasonable also. read more

Ended up spending the night in Cloverdale and after searching all nearby restaurants we decided on Lou's and we were NOT disappointed! We had the order of 4 chicken fingers which were almost full size chicken breasts and it was REAL chicken...not the typical chicken fingers you might expect. They were seasoned and cooked perfectly...so very GOOD....but if I had known how large they would be, I might have opted for the 2 piece kid's size! Sadly, since we were in a hotel without a fridge, saving leftovers was not an option. :( My granddaughter ordered a cheeseburger and said it was delicious! The fries were mildly seasoned and tasted great. Also had a side salad which was very basic, but super fresh and the blue cheese dressing was very good. We had the food delivered to our hotel for a small fee and it was still very hot when it arrived! If ever passing through this area again, I would not hesitate to stop here and would certainly love to try the breakfast....based on other reviews it sounds like it would be amazing! read more

Good food, local atmosphere, friendly. Breaded tenderloin was VERY good, and the onion rings were pretty noteworthy as well. All that fried food sat a little heavy on my stomach, but that's the nature of the beast. Very good report from my DP on her pulled pork & fries as well. We'd be going back for our second visit right now, but it's Sunday evening and they close at 3 PM on Sundays. Would love to make this our "go to" place in the future for its surprising quality, it's proximity, and their excellent service. Just a note, this is a quaint, modernized, country general store with a restaurant in the back. There are no candles or tablecloths, but the atmosphere is perfect for the locale which is in the country in southwest Indiana. read more
