One of things I miss about PA is getting a Zep from Lou's can't get them anywhere else, many have tried to duplicate the sandwich, but they can't get the same roll and that is very important. Listen, forget the city just come here for a great cheesesteak! Listen, as soon as I walked up I know the vibe was right. When I walked in the music was vibing the staff was cool. This place has been around many years. They open early but close at 4pm so be mindful of that. I literally would drive out of my way to come back next time we visiting Philly. This visit I got the chicken Philly cheese steak. Chicken is shredded thin like the regular and he adds butter to keep it from drying out. The bread was delicious, the meat was delicious, the cheese was delicious. Only thing I would say is stay away from the mushrooms. Located in Norristown Lou's was established in 1941.... And apparently it has not changed!!! Tons of counter seating, booths along the left hand wall but they were built when folks were smaller so if have someone girth you may not feel comfortable. Very friendly service!!! Specializes in "zeps" sandwiches served on a round roll. We had the other specialty a garlic bread cheesesteak which did not disappoint!!! Tasty and delicious Onion rings were slightly overdone but tasty. Hand dipped milkshakes old school !!!!! I came here for lunch with a coworker on Friday, it was quite a popular place. I love the atmosphere here, it's very laid back and homey. They got bar seating and booth seating area. Everyone seems to know everyone, this is a place full of regular customers. Anyways, besides the atmosphere, the food is also on point. I ordered garlic bread cheesesteak sandwich with a side of fries. I love the cheesesteak and the price is very reasonable as well. I would definitely come back and try different things. While getting my car inspected at Sciacca, I decided to pop in to get a snack for lunch. They have plenty of food on the menu but I was drawn to the crab cake sandwich and order it with lettuce, tomato, and light mayo. My interactions with the staff was decent and the place is nice and welcoming. They have a lot of tempting snacks and candy near the register so kids would love this place. Even though it was lunch time, it wasn't very busy surprisingly. I also found the pricing to be very affordable. I really enjoyed my food at Lou's. We could have gone to one of the two touristy places but on a visit to the King of Prussia mall we decided to go local and went to Lou's. Lou's is like stepping into a 1950's diner. I was with two people born in the 1940's/1950's who confirmed this. This is definitely a local's place and I loved that. Everyone seemed to say hi to each other. The prices were very reasonable and our server was friendly. My cheeseteak was very good. It wasn't greasy like someone of the ones I have had in California. A good sub + double charged = not a fantastic experience. ++ They didn't wish us even though we rocked up in the last hour No frills service and casual ambience A solid Italian sub, zep, hoagie, or whatever they call it here - - We asked when ordering, and made sure we were ordering a 12-inch Italian sub to share, which we got, and which is listed on the menu for $7.50. Total charge turned out to be $15.60. Since we were on a road trip and I didn't find out until we'd long left the place there wasn't too much we could do, but it's never fun when you're overcharged. So did take out order but first parking on street have go round few times not many spots an if use came lil hard walk far but manageable heard lot in back no biggy for walk . A step back in time, and a step up in quality! The sort of neighborhood sandwich shop that is beloved to the locals. So many neighborhoods have a bunch of sandwich-and-hoagie shops that do okay, but if they are lucky, they have one special one like this one. Sadly, my neighborhood is not close enough to here to come here more often. Walking in the door, you definitely feel nostalgic. They have counter and booth seating, and, at the counter like I was, directly across from the ice cream freezer and milkshake mixer, I felt like when Marty Mcfly went into the Cafe (also named "Lou's" interestingly enough) in Back to the Future. If the modern soda fountain was replaced with a jerk-style one, I might have thought it was a time machine! Reading the reviews, I thought I was going to lunch on a cheesesteak. But on the advice of a friend, I ordered a Meatball Parm Sandwich instead. It was delicious. First, the roll was fresh, soft, and tasty. Inside the roll was A TON of meat, some of which had squished together inside the roll to make a brick rather than meatballs, but you could see the meatballs peeking out at the end of the roll. Regardless, they were delicious. A perfect amount of sauce (I'm Irish, so it's "sauce," don't hate me if you're a "gravy" person - I'll respect you, you respect me - either way, it's delicious), which was obviously homemade. The meat was cooked and seasoned to perfection, and somehow, despite there being so much inside that roll, it was not sloppy and dripping out all over. I needed more napkins than the average bear, but the roll's integrity held. I also had some french fries which were thicker than shoe string, but not as thick as steak fries. Their consistency was like steak fries, though. If you like softer fries, these are for you. I loved the meatball sandwich so much that I ordered an Italian special to take home for another meal later in the week. Like it's hot cousin, the cold sandwich was as packed to the gills with meat as any hoagie I've ever had. Delicious flavor and it was still good even after sitting in the fridge for a day. For the ride home I ordered a black and white milkshake, and they mastered that as well. My waitress and the cashier were both super friendly. You can tell what a neighborhood gem this was by the fact that they talked to all of their other customers by name and knew how they were all doing, and treated me just as nicely even though they didn't know me. Bottom line: if you're in Norristown and want a sandwich, go here. If you're in Norristown and you DON'T want a sandwich, go here and get one anyway. You'll thank me. read more

I found Lou's when driving home from Philly to Lancaster. I wanted an original Philly cheesesteak, and I was thrilled with their food. My dad has been coming here for the past 50 years and we cannot get him to go anywhere else. It is family owned. He is a huge fan of their coffee. When he was in the hospital he requested we bring him their coffee everyday. I've eaten there most of my life and have 0 complaints about their food or service. Food is quick, good, and I am always filled up. Service is always warm and friendly. If you're a regular they take the time to get to know you. The only thing I don't like is it's location, because it is off Main Street in Norristown and the parking is tough. But you can't blame the shop they've been there since 1941, and the neighborhood has changed. It won't stop my family from coming here and we will be coming until the day they close. read more
