Three skeptical omnivores and a vegetarian enter a vegan restaurant...Sounds like the start of a bad joke but instead it was a wonderful surprise. As one of the omnivores, I've been trying to incorporate more meat-free meals into my diet. The menu here is broad and everyone in our party of four ordered different things. I had the fried cauliflower and Mac and cheese. It came with a dipping sauce for the cauliflower. Chef's kiss for the cauliflower and the sauce. The Mac had some kind of magical seasoning on it that almost had me begging for a few extra dashes but I kept my composure. While I didn't taste my lunch mates' food, each of us finished everything. The chef was warm and welcoming, made recommendations, and encouraged the skeptics to be adventurous. She checked in with us when we were finished. This is a casual dining restaurant. I'm not vegan, but I like good food and don't mind experimenting. The first time I patronized was after trying a smoothie at an event; the smoothie was good and I wanted more. Not sure what was going on, but I had to make two separate purchases, one for the smoothie and another for the sides. An explanation of why that was necessary would've been appreciated. The man and younger lady may have been side tracked as I wasn't sure if they were flirting with each other or not. I enjoyed the cauliflower. I cook and I think I'll stick to non-vegan mac and cheese. I also bake, so I may have been a tougher critic of the sweet potato pie; it was ok & stringy. I decided to give them another try when I saw them listed on Too Good To Go. There was a short wait before my order was complete. The portion size was decent. I liked the kick of the spices. The Chick'n sandwich is deep fried and made from Mushrooms was pretty good. The special sauce was delicious and went well with the sandwich. The fries were ok. The Moscato Cake was amazing! This was my first time visiting Love In Action Cafe. Upon entering, I was greeted warmly by the young man at the register. He asked if this was my first visit, and I let him know that it was. He went through the daily specials, with it being Tuesday, they had the taco Tuesday menu. After a few moments, I chose the cheesesteak and fries. I walked around the restaurant while I waited for my meal. I saw handmade jewelry, nutritional supplements, and even a free library in the corner. After I received my food, I took a quick picture. Wow! It looked delicious. And let me tell you it tasted awesome. If I didn't know it wasn't meat, I would have been totally fooled. The fries were cooked too perfection. Crispy outside, soft inside. Visiting from out of town and found this gem. Good comfort food with quality vegan/vegetarian options. I ordered the Jack Fruit tacos with fries. Biting into the taco you got soft flour tortilla, fresh crispy lettuce, a bit of shredded vegan cheddar cheese, and a flavor house chopped jackfruit with a tangy but savory bbq style sauce. The fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The Cheesesteak similarly was on flavorful, the bread was noticeably soft, balanced bread, a great platform for the ingredients. The sauce was more bbq style vs what some out of t owners might expect of thinking of the "Philly" style cheesesteak. Plenty good and worth a try. Finally we got the fried brussel sprouts with the OG sauce for dipping. Batter was light, golden in color, almost buttermilk style in flavor and paired nicely with the tangy, savory OG sauce. I came here yesterday for dinner with my partner on a Wednesday evening and giving this 2.5-3 stars. The positive was the beautiful energy of the cafe. We were greeted so nicely and everything on the menu was explained. They have a card you can receive punches for each visit. The location is connected to a hotel and most people I saw turned in and parked immediately at the front, but the restaurant entrance is around the corner of the hotel entrance with parking there. I have been plant based for 12 years so my review may be a little more harsh, my partner indulges in plant based food on occasion, however typically enjoys plant based meals whenever he does try it. Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy the food much and for the price point- we spent over $50 total, we could've gone elsewhere with way more satisfying options (we ended up getting pizza afterwards). My partner got the Beyond cheesesteak and which wasn't bad honestly but not that good. I got the Beyond meatloaf that came with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and kale. Pictured for this dish was green beans so that's what I was expecting and received over cooked broccoli (mostly stems), bland kale, and 2 rolls. The mashed potatoes weren't flavorful at all and my entire plate temp wise wasn't hot, lukewarm at best. They do have many options for drinks, but one thing I thought was insane was that they sell Sparkling Ice flavored waters for $4 EACH and you can purchase 5 of those for $5 at the grocery store. Bring your own beverage unless you want one of their smoothies etc. We also purchased two slices of sweet potato pie (one of the slices was burnt) and for $6-7 a slice, it was small and not good at all. We took a bite and discarded the rest, as with the remainder of our food. I am happy we were able to support a black owned business. Stopped by to check out Love in action cafe today for lunch. First thing that caught my by surprise after parking in front is that the main entrance is not the double locked doors on the front of the building facing the main street - but is actually accessed through the side entrance on the left hand side facing the building. After heading in was very pleasantly surprised at how much space and nicely decorated the interior was. I ordered the hoagie with impossible meat while my significant other ordered the the French toast platter with beyond sausage for brunch. Apparently the brunch menu is prepared by a separate chef than the non brunch menu so we had to pay on two separate terminals but that was fine. Was surprised to learn this cafe had only been open for about six months at the time of writing and is actually a 501c3 nonprofit whose goal is to help address under served communities e.g. Veterans, elderly and the disabled through separate programs that provide community services as well as transitional housing. The vegan cafe is part of their strategy to enable that goal. With that in mind, my Hoagie was very tasty and hot. French toast platter was nicely done. Will definitely come again. Only thing to be careful of is when exiting the parking lot, the row of white picket fences lining the parking lot really block the view of oncoming traffic (if they're not sitting in a taller vehicle e.g. SUV, pickup truck, 18 wheeler. read more

The smoothie bowl was refreshing! & the pie was nothing less than amazing. If you're a true Charlotte native this area was occupied by a chicken shop prior - its had a complete 360 by this new owner. One of few vegan spots on this side of town! Nonetheless invest your money, time, and love into this company. I've been here at least four times in a span of about a month, and I definitely keep coming back for a reason. I tried the Chick'n Sandwich, Shroom Taco and Vegan Taco, Jackfruit Bowl, Chili Dogs, BBQ Sliders, the Meatloaf, and a sea moss smoothie (so good!) The chik'n sandwich is my favorite thus far (mmm crunch!) My least favorite was the jackfruit bowl because the veggies were lacking (a basic canned corn, green bean, carrot medley). But I'll still be back soon because I can't wait to try the sweet potato pie, and I'm quite curious about the mac 'n' cheez. However it's not only the food that keeps me coming back, the customer service is top-notch. Everyone is very welcoming and helpful. The ambiance is very relaxed and chill. I went there yesterday for the first time, I was highly disappointed. The customer service was great, but the place is very nasty. There was a dead roach in the bathroom. Honestly, I should have canceled my order once I saw that dead roach, but I still decided to give them a chance because I had already paid. I only ordered fried cauliflower and my cauliflower was drenched in oil. There was so much oil on the bottom of the box, and I put the cauliflower on some napkin and squeezed the cauliflower with the napkin, and there was so so much oil drenched on the napkin.
