Just a sweet little update for my favorite restaurant in Charlotte, if not the entire Southern East Coast. On every visit to Charlotte, I stop here 2-3 times, whether it's to meet up with friends and colleagues for lunch, to grab a quite bite before evening plans, to spend happy hours and dinners on that delightful back patio or to pick up that insane vegan dessert I've been craving. I mean, can it get any better than a spread of vegan elote corn, nachos smothered with beans, seitan, guac/queso/crema or my new favorite, the crunch wrap with a glass of something icy cold (I usually get a glass of something sparkling at the back bar). Since my last review almost 5 years ago, they sadly removed the matcha cruffin (that I still can't get out of my head!) and added in an entire display of sugary/spicy/chocolatey greatness (I'm still kicking myself for being too late on my way to the airport to get that lemon bar I'd been eying or the pumpkin BUNDT CAKE, ffs. What is wrong with me?) The sweetest owners, the loveliest staff from front counter to back bar to food runners and bussers. I adore Oh My Soul with every ounce of my being. read more

As many other reviewers have said, I really wanted to like this place but the overall experience was rough. Service was REALLY bad. You order and get your table number at the counter. Person taking our order was rude. Asked what he would recommend as a side given that we'd never been to the restaurant before. He just listed off all the sides and appeared annoyed by the question. We finished our order and he then cancels the tip screen and I didn't know why. He asks if I want a receipt and I say sure. Then I notice that they have an automatic "service charge" of 15% that isn't advertised anywhere in the restaurant. I'm not necessarily against restaurants doing this but it should be advertised. Also, you should have service if you're going to charge a "service charge." Our service consisted of a counter order and then someone who eventually brought out our food. Water was never even refilled. Vibe of everyone that worked there was angry and aggravated. Multiple people scowled at me walking through the dining room from the kitchen. One worker threw open the kitchen door obviously pissed about something. Everyone in the restaurant was waiting forever for their food and other tables would have one entree come out while the other person at the table waited another 15 minutes for their food. Food was nothing special. My wife liked her Mother Earth bowl which is why I'm giving two stars. My chicken sandwich was something out of a frozen box. Hush puppies and onion rings were standard. We only had water to drink. All of this cost us $54.20 total. Anymore this feels like a standard experience in an American restaurant unless you do someplace high end. Ok food, terrible value, terrible service, and junk fees. Like they're doing you a favor just being there. All of this for a restaurant that, as the walls show, is trying to convince you to become vegan. This won't do it guys. Do better if you really care about bringing people to your cause. read more

Update from Mar 2026 : I just need to control myself cz I over indulge in this deliciousness everytime I step into this restaurant. Like seriously, every single dish I had here is always so delicious, this time I tried cookie butter pudding and biscoff brownie for desert and that was the most delicious combo I ever had. My husby had King Shaka vurger and I'm the person who hates burgers but I just loved it so soooo much. Walking around in Noda and my friend and I immediately gravitate towards this place as we heard live music going on and the guys voice was AMAZING! Very soothing and just overall very great. Grabbed two drinks and ordered their loaded fries which were DELICIOUS! packed with tomatoes, cheese, onions, jalapeños, "meat" and it eas delicious! Very crispy too which was delicious! The ambiance itself was awesome. Plenty of patio seating outdoors with seating inside as well. Definitely will return during the summer and have a great time. read more

What a cutie and eclectic spot. I wandered here after already having brunch nearby so I didn't have any food from their very extensive menu. I did however have a zero proof canned cocktail and it was very tasty. I sat and worked for hours in the shady outdoor area outback. It was calm and enjoyable, with music playing over a speaker system. The weather was great so that added to the overall gleeful atmosphere. read more

As someone who's usually hesitant about vegan food, Oh My Soul completely changed my mind. This place has the best vegan food I've ever had. Everything I've tried has been SO full of flavor and delicious.My go to is "The Gatsby" - their signature dish and it never disappoints. The staff is always friendly, and the service is pretty quick. The South African-inspired menu is so unique, and the whole vibe here is amazing. The patio is adorable and they always have some type of live music. Absolutely fantastic! It was the first time for my vegan friend and me, and we thoroughly enjoyed the food, drinks and atmosphere inside and out! I had two Lekker Bites -- the Spirit Rolls and the Golden Soup. Both were absolutely delicious and more than I could eat, so I took home leftovers. The menu, including desserts, is extensive so there's something for everyone. The bright, joyful artwork and powerful A/C inside were perfect, and we really enjoyed the live music on the outdoor patio when it cooled down. I saw this spot in my map when I looked up vegan spots and it looked good. Im not usually the type to eat vegan food but Im on a diet and this place ended up being really good. My friend got a black bean burger she wasn't too happy with but a lot of their food looked really good. I loved what I got and they had a bunch of deserts that definitely tempted my sweet tooth. I'm allergic to eggs so fining a good brunch is hard. Traveling out of town to Charlotte, I found Oh My Soul on yelp. It is a vegan South African restaurant and just my luck, they had breakfast that day. I chose the Big Bro which was a giant plate with different goodies around it. Baked beans for breakfast? Why not! Vegan sausage that tastes better than regular sausage... yea that was gone first. Next time I'll ask for double the "feggs" but I had so much left over I used the rest of the mixture and more "feggs" and had another full breakfast. The owners were extremely nice and generous. It's been a while since I checked out Oh My Soul, so this was a really nice return. I met up with my coworker for a lunch meeting and we had a good time! We got there right when they opened on a weekday so we were literally the only customers there. It was hot so we sat inside and enjoyed. I love a place where you order first then they bring the food out. It just such an easier, seamless dining experience. I believe it's better for guests and staff. I ordered the mother bowl, I believe is the name. It was so light and delicious!!! I had enough to take home and finished it later that day. It's a good portion size. I also tried a Lenny Boy kombucha and LOVED it. They can do no wrong though lol. I also got the lava cake dessert and that was pretty good too. Pleasantly surprised by this place! This is a vegan restaurant, and truthfully, that's not much of a pull for me. I eat most things, so I generally don't go out of my way to avoid anything. We stopped in after wandering around a pottery sale next door. I had a coffee and tasted my friends meals, and everything was delicious! Doesn't taste like you're just eating grass (my main concern, so silly!) and much of it is made to taste like regular dishes. Coffee was also great, and they have a full bar! The house is older, and there is some seating in the back. Additionally, there's outdoor space, and a little area for a band to set up. It was a nice day, and so most people were out back. Dog friendly, some kids running around. This place is nothing fancy and very welcoming. Staff were very friendly, with very nice accents as well. Parking is a bit of a challenge, though you're just a nice walk away from the light rail. I'd definitely stop back in! read more

Food is delicious and it doesn't even taste vegan. I love spicy foods and this place had a good variety of spicy and non spicy foods. We had a table of 6. Order at counter and go sit outside. Outside seating was perfect for the warm summer night. Bring food to the table. Outside bar. Mixed drinks starting at $15. If your kids aren't vegetarian/vegan, they may not like this spot and it's too pricy ($20/meal) to have kids wasting this good food. Great date night. They brought out a slice of cake for the birthday girl. My only complaint is that onions rings were too crispy. read more

Oh My Soul is a South African vegan restaurant with a bar that has a warm, inviting atmosphere. My friend and I came here last weekend for drinks before attending a concert in the NoDa area. I appreciated how they offered indoor and outdoor seating, live music, and a variety of creative drink options. My spiked lavender and rosemary lemonade hit the spot on a very hot evening. The bartender was polite and answered my questions with kindness. I do wish their pricing was more upfront as I was charged a dollar higher than the menu had listed for my drink. OMG - vegan food paradise! What a wonderful place for breakfast, lunch or dinner! We had dinner here, delicious food, and came back for breakfast which didn't disappoint. Soooo delicious!! The owners are very friendly, they are from South Africa and brought vegan South African dishes and flavors to Charlotte. You order at the counter from a menu that offers quite some options. The food and drinks are then served to your table. We didn't sit outside as it was too cold but there is a large patio. They recently opened up a new 2nd location "Oh My Soul On The Moo've" in Uptown located at 601 S. Tryon St - Suite A137. Lots of seating, both indoor and outdoor definitely putting off hipster vibes. The creativity of the art outside the venue correlates to the menu. Lots of great choices, including some custom drinks and teas and generous portions. Richard and the friendly staff explained the menu items and answered our questions. The cauliflower wings have the light breading and the perfect crunch, the sauce that comes with it and the ranch dip.It was really amazing. The Mother Earth bowl was filled with so much goodness that I couldn't finish it all! Every single veggie in that bowl was seasoned to perfection. I mean they even made cauliflower taste good! Deducting one star because my bowl came with falafel instead of tofu. I think to take advantage of the flavors this restaurant has to offer, you have to know what to order. I thought my dish with the chicken burger tasted like something I make at home when I eat those frozen Chik'n patties. However my friend got the Great Gatsby which had a unique AMAZING ethnic flavor. It was quite spicy with jalapeño pieces in it so would let them know if that's an issue. The soursop juice was unique and pretty good as well! I've lived in this neighborhood for a while. Before living here, I frequented NoDa a lot. Despite the positive Yelp reviews, I've walked by this place a million times and even donated to their food pantry out front but never ordered from there. Tonight, in search of a vegan burger, I took to Yelp and perused their online menu. I ordered the King Shaka Burger and the Spicy Pasta Salad. The menu price is $18, but with tax, it came to $25. I don't mind paying for good food, but 38% seems a bit off. I figured there may have been an upcharge for the pasta salad and shrugged it off. Upon arriving, the woman who had taken my order warmly greeted me. She checked in the back and promptly returned with an ETA. I perused the bakery counter and opted for the maple pecan coffee cake. As she got the cake boxed, a gentleman called me over to pay. Unfortunately, he was not as pleasant as the other lady and was skeptical about the check-in coupon that popped up on their rewards screen when I entered my phone number. Even after the lady offered her guidance, he still seemed hesitant. Sensing his skepticism, I told him not to worry about it and offered to pay full price before he agreed to honor it. The bill was an additional $8, but my first-timer coupon brought it down to $6. Out the door, we're looking at $31 in total, which, as I've stated previously, is irrelevant if the food is good. As you can probably surmise, it wasn't. The King Shaka Burger is listed as follows on its website: "Plant-based cheesy bacon burger garnished with crispy lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, cheese, maple bacon, pickles, house-made bliksem sauce served on a Duke's potato bun." The burger didn't match the description as it had no bacon and was served on a sesame seed bun. The patty was cooked and seasoned well, and the cold toppings were good. However, the onions were simultaneously slimy, undercooked and chopped haphazardly. The bun was soaked with sauce, making the burger a sloppy, soggy mess visually and texturally. The pasta salad continued to reinforce the theme of poor texture. The noodles were overcooked and mushy, drowned in so much mayo-based sauce that they were inedible. I think the flavor would've been good had it not been for the thick gobs of mayo, but the texture would've suffered for the lack of a nice al dente pasta. Lastly, the cake. It was thick and dry, with a pronounced floury taste in both the glaze and the cake. The maple didn't really shine through, and the dryness of such a thick slice made it inedible. I wanted to like this place, but at $31 for such poor execution, I won't be back. The stars given are for the service by the woman at the counter, the burger patty and the fact that they have a food pantry outside for folks to donate to and/or access. read more

Their vurgers and nachos were FANTASTIC!!! the vurger we got tasted like a FANTASTIC breakfast sausage.. SOOOO good and the vegan cheese was AHMAZING. We literally just went off the recommendation of the cashier and she did not disapoint. Also the mac and cheese balls and mango chia seed pudding, DIVINE. The nachoes is big enough for at least 2 and no more than 4! great for a table appetizer. flavors are GREAT, zerooooo complaints. Service was great, just know they have a few different fews the cashier tells you about when ordering which is transparent. Tons of goodies in the dessert case and a deli case in the back with items like vegan cheese, potato salad etc. Nice covered patio and plenty of seating. read more

Let me start by saying I'm not a vegan. However, I'm a real foodie who enjoys experimenting. Doing a detox, I wanted to try a vegan spot. Oh My Soul had good reviews. I enjoyed the outdoor decor. I ordered the hip hop chick "burger" with hushpuppies, & a bag of chips for a snack later. The burger wasn't spicy to me but I enjoyed it. This order was definitely more pricey than your average burger & side order, but healthier food usually comes at a premium. Staff was friendly and eager to answer my questions. So far I've tried the (Makhulu) board which was delicious, the wings, the Wakka wakka, a burger and a few of their desserts. You don't have to be vegan to love this place! There's such a great variety of foods and they have such a great selection of vurgers (vegan burgers). My go-to is the waka waka, but I forced myself to try something new this time and it wasn't a bad decision. The gatsby is a vegan Philly cheesesteak and it is huge. I had to eat it with a fork. To me it tasted like chili cheese fries and was so tasty. The dining is fully out back and outdoors, so go when weather is permitting. They make great cocktails and the patio is such a vibe. So this place is divey but in a peaceful, bo-ho, save the animals way, lol. I loved the entire experience. We ate our food outside, where they had tables (not uniform) available under a tent-like structure so you didn't have to worry about the rain. I don't know if they have indoor seating since the place looks like it was initially a home... I digress. I decided to have this giant mammoth of a delicious and spicy sandwich. The only takeaway is that it wasn't a sandwich I could pick up. It was hoagie-style Gatsby, but it was LOADED to a point where I had to eat it with a fork and make the best of it. It gave me chili dog vibes, which aren't bad, but I just wanted more of a sandwich. With that said, it was filled with flavor and color and an excellent selection for a person who isn't much of a vegan but is taking baby steps. I'll want to come back and try their desserts.
