We had our catalytic converters stolen from our Prius (as with many other drivers in the country), and so we had it replaced. We also decided to buy a catalytic converter shield on Amazon to deter future potential thieves from stealing it again. We just needed someone to install it for us. While Lovefield Auto Repair didn't actually install the catalytic converter itself, my wife and I both called this establishment separately, both times reaching Javier. In both friendly phone interactions, he assured us that it (the catalytic converter installation process) was simple and that he could do it for $95. After researching and calling up other auto repair shops, my wife was wary, as the persons she spoke to were much more diligent in asking questions about the shield (and some shops gently refused service as they honestly couldn't do it or believed it wouldn't work, which we respected), as compared to Javier's nonchalant and persuasive attitude about installation. We were cautiously optimistic, however, since Javier was charging us half the price as some of the other auto shops, and since this shop was highly rated on Yelp. After bringing our car in and confirming for the third time the price and the assurance that he could do it, we left him to it. However, we also asked that Javier spray paint the catalytic converter or put our serial number on it, which can also potentially ward away thieves. He promised to do that, for no extra cost (which we would've gladly paid for if he had charged). We also printed out the installation manual for the shield in case he needed it. We returned the next morning to find that, while Javier did install the shield, he was increasing the price to $150, instead of the original agreed upon $95, due to the increased work of installing the shield (e.g. drilling holes). We were quite frankly flabbergasted, despite this price being cheaper than some other auto shops. In addition, he was unable to spray paint or mark our serial number on the catalytic converter as well, as it was too complicated for some reason. Overall, while it seems the shield is installed correctly and the job was done efficiently/quickly, we were disappointed. I believe Javier should have informed us of the additional costs, as he didn't ask any questions about the shield installation (and I'm realizing exactly why other auto shops essentially interrogated us about it, since apparently it's not that easy to install) and therefore quoted us an incorrect price until he saw the labor it actually cost. I also believe that Javier shouldn't have promised us the initial cost or to spray paint our catalytic converter, since we would've gone with another professional auto shop if we knew that knowledge beforehand. In my experience, the most important thing about auto repair shops is TRUST. You need to trust them to repair something you'll use daily and on which your life is in jeopardy. You need to trust them to repair for the agreed upon price and timeline, which it seems is a big issue with mechanics. For us, yes this place did the job fine. But they broke a lot of promises and I wouldn't recommend them for this reason. I'm sad to say this, because Javier is, as other reviews mention, a truly good guy - very jovial and genial in nature. But while he installed the shield, he didn't deliver on what he said he'd do, and thus, that broken trust means I won't be going back. If you DO decide to go here, make sure to get everything in writing. That way at least you have some proof if they break an agreement or charge more money. By the way, FYI, I did make the mistake of going to the similarly named (and smaller) "Love Field Auto", which is about 2 miles down the road from this place. Just make sure you go to the right shop. Had an absolutely amazing experience here! Was having engine issues for about 2 weeks now and paid $800 to 2 other places and was still having issues. I am amazed by the honesty of this place!!! I took my car in for some sporadically recurring issues. Javier did a diagnostics check and test drove my car briefly (due to the rain) and told me there was nothing showing wrong with the vehicle. He suggested to bring it back another time when the weather conditions are better for a more thorough check. He furthermore explained that he didn't want to just make up a problem and charge for any repairs/replacement, when nothing was coming up as defective! I took a used vehicle I was planning to purchase to have a pre-purchase inspection at Lovefield Auto Repair. I called without an appointment and they got me in with only a 15 minute wait (on what looked like a busy Monday). This place was great! A bit of an eye sore, but what well respected auto shop isn't?? I called the day of to schedule an oil change for 5:30 (30 minutes before closing) and Javier got me right in! This was the first oil change they asked ME if I wanted synthetic or regular, usually people tell me I need synthetic. I don't. Also, not once did he try to upcharge me or tell me something else was wrong that they needed to fix for me. All in all, I got in and out in less than 30 minutes and for $35. At first glance this is EXACTLY the type of place I would stay away from. Tires everywhere, hole in the wall garage, kinda scary all together. BUT I needed to have my tires rotated and according to their website tires is one of their specialties. So I told myself that not every place is as bad as it seems, I'm a big girl...I can do this. So, I pulled up under their portico and a guy came out to greet me. Very nice with incredibly broken English and asked how he could help me. I told him I wanted to get my tires rotated and an oil change. He said $10 for the rotation and $25 for the oil change, 25 minutes. Um, really? Wow. Now i'm kinda nervous this will be a craptastic job. I went into their little "waiting area" and watched Telmundo (I don't speak any Spanish). This was awesome. They also have signs everywhere that say things like "What's in my safe isn't worth your life" and "Guns don't kill, I will" and finally my favorite "Official member of the Hunt for Terrorists" Ha. Loves it. Anyway, about 5 minutes later this guy comes over and says that he doesn't think I need my tires rotated and gives me this long explanation why. After listening to him, I realized he was right and obviously I know nothing about cars. So even though he just lost $10 from my tires, he was more concerned about my car than the money. They changed my oil and another 10 minutes later I was off. Stress be gone. And I learned an important lesson today folks, just because something may be well priced doesn't mean its craptastic. Take that and smoke it. I can't give them 5 stars because all they did was change my oil, but if their honesty and diligence with the rest of their work is anything like my little experience I'm sure it would be 5 stars all the way. read more

I came here yesterday because my check engine light was on, and they had 5 star reviews. I talked to them and they said they would need to check the computer for why the check engine light was on with there scanner. P They then told me this was a $50 charge.... ? I have never even heard of paying to run that scan. But they said I either had to pay it or go somewhere that did it for free and bring them the results. Um, I think not. Running a scan takes 1 minute and costs nothing. I do not want to start any kind of work with a shop that is already over charging X50, before looking at my car. read more

My daughter drove out to Dallas from California for a one month med school rotation. With her 16 hour day work/study schedule, and her first morning of work, she finds her car's transmission slipping, and unable to shift into reverse. She has the car towed to a transmission shop on Inwood Road where, after a $150 visual inspection she was told she had lost four quarts of ATF through a failed axle seal at the transaxle. The manager told me she had a failed bushing inside the transmission that was blowing out the seal. He advised me to rebuild the transmission at a cost of $3,500 plus. I suggested we replace the seal and see how it goes. He quoted me an additional $425. For what it's worth, he was aware my daughter was newly arrived in an unfamiliar city without resources. We moved the car down the street to Lovefield Auto for a second opinion. I explained the situation to Javier and asked him to replace the seal and inspect for bushing movement. End result, inspection showed no bushing movement and seal was replaced same day. Total cost was only $200. My daughter said Javier was so sweet and nice and reassuring. Great customer service, honest, more than fair pricing, and the job done right. Five days later and no leaks! Thank you Javier for saving this dad from any more gray hair! A++++++ read more
