5 years ago, we would visit Locust Grove often to visit a family member while they lived in the area, and would often dine at Lovin' Oven. Today, the pizza is just like how we remember it!! They have MORE THAN GREAT pizza. They make their dough fresh daily, and use quality ingredients. I would like more sauce, but next time I can remember to ask for extra. They also put this parmesan mix on the dough which makes it even better!! They have good tea, and have a great atmosphere! You feel like you are in an old brick-walled pizza establishment. The staff are attentive, also! (Pro tip: Get a seat towards the front to watch the trains go by). If you are in the area, I highly recommend you stopping by. Great food! read more

We stopped into Lovin Oven around 5:30 on a Friday evening, hoping for a quick bite before heading to an Easter service. It was pretty busy, but we were seated right away, so far, so good. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. Drinks (two waters and three kid cokes) took about 20 minutes to arrive, and our food came out even later. The mini garlic breadsticks and cheese bread hit the table around 6:10, and our two slices (The 1893 and the Lovin Spicy Southern) didn't show up until 6:25. For just two slices and a couple of apps, the wait felt excessive especially with kids in tow and a time crunch. The food itself was underwhelming. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out either. Definitely not the "wow" factor I was hoping for when searching for a go-to hometown pizza joint for our family Friday nights. That said, the service was friendly and the place has a local vibe I really wanted to love. I just wish the food and timing matched the warm welcome. Forgot to take pics, but stopped there for the 2nd time on a road trip. Love the small town "old-time" downtown area - restaurant is in a cool old building. Salads are fresh. First time we visited I had a meatball sub and hubs had a calzone. Huge portions - both delicious! This time we ordered pizza by the slice - love that you can get a slice or two of any of the specialty pizzas on the menu rather than ordering a whole pie! The slices are large - one was plenty for me; hubs had two - we tried "The Engineer" and the "Margherite" - several pizza names are train-related - there is an old train station right across the street and the train runs by! Could've used just a little more sauce as it was just a hair dry, but that could be because it was a slice not a whole pie. (Please note we have been here like 20 times and I've never felt the need to update my original review). Well I have to say we were a bit disappointed in dinner tonight. I'm not sure what was off but the pizza just wasn't as good as the last time we ate here. I think some of it had to do with less cheese but really it was just Less. I hate to write this review and not give them four or five stars but I have to. I wish I could pinpoint what exactly was missing. Lots. We ordered the Main Street with no olives and half no mushroom. I also told our server that we wanted the same pizza but to go. I guess I just assumed that they would cook that one right before we were ready to pay the bill but unfortunately it went through the oven at the same time as the one we were going to sit in and eat. So it sat in a box, under a heat lamp, for 30 mins and died. I mean it was gonna go in the fridge as soon as we got home but that's a little different than first having it die under a heat lamp.....know what I mean? Anyway our pizza came out piping hot and smelling delicious and WRONG. Olives (green and black) and mushrooms all over it. So Honey says "are those olives?" (He loathes them) and I'm like "are there mushrooms on both sides? (Not a fan) and she picks the pizza up and scurries off with it. A few minutes later our server says they brought the wrong pizza and ours is just coming out. She comes back with a pizza that's right - but is obviously NOT "fresh out of the oven" but it is our actual pizza. Well, we were starving at this point so we ate the "fresh out of the oven" heat lamp dead pizza. We are getting close to being done with this one and I ask her to go ahead and have them make our to go pizza. No need. They made it when they made the original pizza.........great, just great. We placed our order online which was easy to do. Once we arrived to pick up our food, we were greeted and assisted right away. We placed an order for cheesy bread in house. The service was great. Arrived on a Saturday afternoon when things were slow. We seated ourselves with no issue. The inside of Lovin Oven is the building's original brick walls with retro decorations. The atmosphere was calm quiet and welcoming. The service was good on having our order taken and bringing our food. However, no one came back to check on us until we finished eating. No refills on drinks, nada. Server dropped off the check hurriedly without the opportunity to ask for to-go boxes so my yummy food I couldn't eat got left behind to be thrown out. It was the first time I had eaten at Lovin Oven. The entrees were very good and tasty. I was disappointed in the appetizer of mini garlic breadsticks. They are not mini breadsticks but maybe 2 breadsticks cut into small pieces. One tiny plastic to go size of marinara for four people to share. They were supposed to be covered in butter, Parmesan and garlic. It tasted as if they had olive oil on them, no butter and with little to no parm or garlic. When I went to pay for our meal with cash, I was turned down as they do not take $100 bills. It says this no where on the door, in the menu, nowhere. And I was going to leave the rest of the $100 as a VERY nice tip. What if that was ALL the money I had. I was insulted and embarrassed when the employee said quite loudly they don't take them and too many are counterfeit. It made me feel as if my money wasn't good enough and they were accusing me of trying to pass a counterfeit. Which my money was very real indeed. I probably won't go back to Lovin Oven as there are lots of eating establishments that don't think that every customer that pays in cash is trying to rip them off. The experience was a mixed bag of good and bad customer service, good entrees and a bad appetizers ($6 for maybe 2 cut up breadsticks??), good ambiance and a bad ending with staff trying to make me feel like a criminal. ***You know there are pens that cost a couple of dollars that tell you if a $100 bill is real or not. Plus a bunch of other ways if you train your staff. read more

Cons: the appetizers are all the same crappy dough cut 3 different ways. 1 drowning in butter, 1 covered in cheese, and one plain. It is in downtown locust Grove so you can park in the lot beside the train platform (out front) or in the back parking lot behind the building. It's a really nice pizza spot in Locust Grove. They have family trivia night on Wednesday's and the calzones are amazing. The calzones are also pretty big so you might be able to share it. Parking is limited in Locust Grove to try to get here early. They offer outside seating and have beers on draft or bottle. You can dine in or carry out and they make the food in the middle of the room basically. It was pretty cool watching the entire cooking process. It's kid friendly and fairly priced. read more

Delayed review, we dined at Lovin' Oven in late February, spending the night in town on our way home from FL. Meatballs were so yummy, flavorful and fork tender. Pizza was excellent! Toppings were very tasty ! We requested the pizza crispy/well done (which rarely happens anywhere anymore). And it did not disappoint. Exactly as we wanted it!! It was early evening when we arrived, hardly anyone there, but by the time we left, the dining room was full. So I am sooo happy to be getting out a little to eat again. I asked in a local Facebook group for pizza recommendations. Quite a few votes for this place. Since I knew it was open for dine in, i decided to give it a try. I don't know the usual seating set up but it was perfectly spaced for social distancing. They have indoor and outdoor dining. The server was attentive and friendly. I have zero complaints! I ordered sweet tea and it was great, sweet but not too sweet. The have a great menu selection. I felt like carbs today but trust me i will be back to try the pizza in a bowl, which is without the crust. I like the fact the have slices and you can even get a speciality pizza as a slice. We ordered a large pizza with black olives and my daughter only like cheese so 2 slices for her but she could only eat one. The pizza was DELICIOUS! The food was really good but the customer service was poor, horrible. The restaurant closes at 9pm. We got there at 8:20pm - party of 6 - and they told us we couldn't stay to eat but we could order to-go. If it was up to me, I would have left. We placed our order and in comes a party of two that was able to stay and eat inside (there was another couple in a booth still eating and drinking beer). We got our food and paid and the new customers were still waiting on their food. We could have definitely eaten our food and been out of there before 9pm. If a customer comes in way before a restaurant is closed, the right thing to do is to serve them - that is if you care about the future of the restaurant but apparently they don't. read more

I have recently discovered the cauliflower crust pizza here and I could probably eat it almost everyday if my budget allowed. I'll be honest $20 for the small size the cauliflower crust comes in is a definite splurge for me but it's a splurge I'll take any weekend day once a month! Balance right? I usually get the "The Grove" and add pepperonis the veggies are always fresh and the sauce has just the right amount or oregano and Italian seasonings so far it's the best speciality pizza in my opinion. We've lived in Locust Grove for a little over 6 months and have been wanting to check this place out. Well we finally did tonight, and we'll definitely be back for more soon. My mother in law, sister in law and I all got speciality calzones and they were delicious and HUGE. Like I'm talking enough for 3-4 servings per calzone. This is the absolute perfect, small downtown pizza place. My family eats here at least once a week. The staff is friendly and prompt. The sweet tea is perfection (not too sweet but not bitter). They come in three sizes, side, regular and large. We got a regular as the waitress said it was big enough to share. It was the size of a regular side salad and any other restaurant. Pizza needed more meat. The delicious: As stated the salad was incredibly fresh. No gross lettuce or veggies whatsoever. It looked freshly chopped when we ordered. Now the pizza was absolutely amazing. Needed more meat but the crust completely made up for that. It was crispy and chewy all at the same time. We had the bbq, pineapple jalapeño one.
