I have walked by this pizzeria more than a few times. Each time, I was in a rush, and with it being so busy, I thought it would be impossible to even go inside to get just one slice. I know because I tried, but I could smell the sauces, the fresh dough. Yes, the aroma of pizza goodness and wing goodness was in the air as I stood there for a second, hoping to get one slice. So the next day, I stopped inside. Of course, the whiff of Italian sauces met me at the door. I ordered right away, and we decided on the calamari, which was very crispy and had so much flavor. The sauce was the extra touch. We added the Classic Pizza for the main course. Now, I like a good not-so-messy pizza as well as a messy one, but this pizza here was a not-so-messy, not too much sauce, the perfect layering of cheese, meat, and veggies. The layering was so perfect that each bite was biting down to three different layers of yumminess. We ordered the crispy wings, too. The wings were dripping in flavor like the rest of our brunch. After brunch, I wanted to see the upstairs. It's a nice area overlooking the downtown. I also like that it's a real pizza place with brick walls, high tables, a bar, and pizza equipment you can see. I happen to visit this place as a pit stop! The place was packed and running. Ordered slices of curry chicken pizza to experiment as it's toppings were really crazy, liked it. And the veggie pizza. But Both of the pizzas had coal beneath the crust which wasn't really a pleasant thing. Also we ordered buffalo chicken melts and that rarely had a hint of buffalo sauce taste. It was really bland like just boiled chicken & melted cheese on a hot dog bun! The ambiance was nice but that hardly made up for few of the unpleasant experiences. Let me start with the three positives: good wait staff, quick service, and the restaurant was actually warm and cozy, which is rare for some reason. Let's talk about what sucked: THE FOOD Slices has some of the worst pizza I have ever tasted. There are frozen pizzas that taste better. The Nom Noms are not balls at all. They are just flattened pizza dough cut up willy-nilly, barely baked, and dropped into a bowl full of garlic butter. Gross! Gordon Ramsay would weep at the sight of this appetizer. Then the pizza was not good at all. The crust is bland and barely cooked, not crispy at all, and the cheese is not fresh. It tastes frozen and bland. Brace yourselves Slices fans. We were regulars at this place and the food is generally good,but not great. The last visit was a disaster on multiple levels. First, most of the food order was cold and others were barely warm. The server started out good, but clearly had no idea on how to handle customers when things don't go right like it did a few nights ago. We reordered and it took over 35 minutes to get the orders out and AGAIN, the food was barely warm. The servers attitude was definitely of a non caring person. The real disaster came at the end, when a person in my party tried to bring it to the attention of someone who claimed to be the manager, but clearly didn't have a clue on how to manage the operation and definitely not customers. Once the concern was brought to his attention, the manager literally mocked one of the members in our party by referring to his age and hurling insults which inflamed the situation. Instead of trying to diffuse the situation, he then started yelling at the top of his lungs " GET THE F... OUT MY RESTAURANT"!!! Wow this was no way to handle a legitimate complaint. The group lives here in Sun City and I highly encourage everyone to rethink on where they will dine in the future. I was suggesting we split a pizza, and my friend that had been here before was quick to correct me that that was unnecessary. 2 slices for $4.59 a piece left me quite full. This is not a review about food. However, if hours of operation are listed then the company should follow them. Says 10pm on door. Says 10pm online. Says 10pm on Yelp. Arrived at 9:15. The employee stated they had already taken last call. It was 45 minutes before you say you close. It might take 20 minutes to cook a pizza and I recall pizza being pretty portable when placed in a box. I won't waste my time trying this spot when I come back to Griffin. read more
