Wow, this place is rad. It feels like a speakeasy. While lots of drunk folks were raging on Union Street, we snuck down the secret hallway and down the stairs to Low Bar. Before long, we were seated. Our server was pretty inattentive, but the drinks were on point, the lights were low and the vibe was chill. I loved it, compared to the more drunken frat feel of other bars in the area. I loved my Old Fashioned ($8). Strong and smooth. Because it's tucked away, it siphons off the really drunk people who will stumble into the more noticeable street-level bars. Low Bar is full of people who know how to handle their alcohol. Also worth noting, a lot of the employees of Georgina's came here for after-work drinks. So many different meats and cheeses with some additions to the plate. The best part is that they were priced per item, so it was easy to pick and choose exactly what you want. The place is downstairs with an almost speakeasy feel. Dark and romantic with comfy tables. Our server was super helpful with ordering both food and drinks. I absolutely love this bar! You have to walk down a flight of stairs and be sat in order to be ordered. We sat at the bar in the most comfortable leather chairs, and ordered drinks only. I went with a Paloma, and it was one of my favorite palomas! They have ton of whiskey drinks and the bartenders are extremely friendly! The basement is nice and dark - good for friends, dates, being alone and people-watching. Really, take your pick on your motivation... any excuse to go will do. The most unique bar in TC. When we first walked into the hallway toward the elevator not knowing anything about the bar, we were quite apprehensive to say the least. We get into the elevator, and go down to the basement. We were so curious/ intrigued when we arrived into the dimly lit hall. The ambiance, menu, seating, and decor were fantastic. Opening night I popped in after work for a drink. I had 2 wonderful drinks, an Old Fashioned and I believe a Russian Bride, in a relaxing atmosphere. It was a great way to pass a couple hours. They have a large list of bourbons and a good selection of everything else. The beer selection is limited, you'll still want to go to seven monks if your looking for a large beer selection. A great list of unique homemade libations, standard classics, and several draft beers to choose from. The price points, from $8 to $12, are appropriate for the ingredients being utilized. The quality spirits and mixers distinguishes itself from others in town and caters to a higher end crowd. A few of these classy concoctions will get your night rolling. We came in to sample the drinks and make our way upstairs for beers & friends. I don't picture myself staying here all night and perhaps it's a good thing they stop serving booze at midnight. There are many places within walking distance to keep the night rolling. A very dimly lit setting helps you focus on your entourage with literally no distractions. There is a lot of dark wood, dark wall coverings, and soft lighting. Your eyes will needs a few minutes to adjust but once dialed in it is very comfortable. Booths can accommodate roughly six people which is the maximum number of patrons they will accept to seat in a group. Greatest hits from Ella Fitzgerald and Louie Armstrong filled the air which made for easy conversation. The service was prompt and drinks came out after a short wait. Cheese, meats, and oysters are the main bites. Certainly not going to fill you up for dinner but a nice compliment to the drink menu. A glossary at the end of the menu lays out what you might be consuming which is handy. This is a unique experience for TC. Following the success of 7 Monks this seems to be a natural progression from the owners. Likely this will be a standout in the cocktail arena but I have a sneaky suspicious a few more will pop up in the area (if they haven't already). This place is a great underground bar that reminds me of a speakeasy in terms of lighting and decor. The drinks are well thought out, crafter and amazing. The bar tenders are attentive and kind and friendly. It was actually great to talk to them and they held their conversations well. The crowd is mixed. Wait times for drinks are absolutely ridiculous. Arrived at the bar at 08:10pm, was seated by 8:20pm. The server gave us menus immediately when seated which was a plus but never came back to our table to take our order. We ended up having to wave down another server to take our order. Being a Chicagoan and seeing drinks in Traverse City being $14 is absolutely ridiculous. In addition the menu is very limited with less than 10 speciality cocktails. The cocktails were mid and only half of the drinks my group ordered were tasteful. Next time I visit Traverse City, I want to give it another shot with a different round of servers. read more
