We ordered a 1lb Shrimp Combo that comes with Corn, Potatoes, Cornbread and a Soda with the Hot Cajun Sauce and a cluster of Snow Crab, again with the Hot Cajun sauce, to share between the two of us. The cook on the shrimp was brilliant and I love the way they semi-peel it making it easier to peel and eat. The sauce was the right amount of spice for me and the garlic overload I very much enjoyed. The side of Cornbread took me by surprise. It had bits of jalapeño which enhanced the sweetness giving it a kick of savory and the bread was perfectly tender and moist, not dry like the others I've had elsewhere before. It's such a great experience to find happy hours in the city. The drinks were half off. We had a hurricane. It was on tap! Very surprised to see that and it was strong! For my meal I selected combo A which is 1lb of shrimp, 2 pieces of corn bread, corn and potatoes. I selected Cajun and lemon pepper and weak sauce (the mildest spice level). My food tasted more like garlic than anything. The food was fresh and well prepared but more garlic than expected. I also ordered the calamari. It was a good flavor. This place is a fun concept. It gets very crowded at dinner so unless you arrive early, you can expect to wait for a table. The food is just mediocre. It's what you would expect from a large restaurant selling shellfish that isn't local. Also quite pricey but considering the large amount of people going to this restaurant, clearly most people think the cost is worth it. You will order your food at the register in the back and then your food will be brought to your table. Must stand in line at the bar to get a drink so, there's a lot of waiting and service isn't part of their model so don't expect good service from waiters as you'll be doing it yourself. All in all, exactly what you would expect from a place like this. Go, knowing what to expect and prepared to have fun but don't go expecting five star food and service. read more

My station was out of bags so I asked the waiter if he could bring me a bag he said they were at the other station. After add ons and a drink my bill was $82. I asked the server for more sauce because the boil was dry. They charge $4 for sauce. This place must be under new management. One of the worst experiences I have had dining in Chicago. Staff was horrible, especially the manager, whose name would not be given when asked. Screwed up our order and every time we asked for it to be rectified, the would say ok and then completely ignore us, until after almost 40 minutes, the manager came out to show us videos of the kitchen and our order, admitting there was a mistake but debating the quantity. Let me start by saying that my adult children took me there for my birthday sunday 6/29/2025. place looked really neat i thought this was going to be a great experience. first of all, the ordering process is a nightmare. cornbread comes with the meal, but if you were to order cornbread separately, it would be $7.50. I dont like cornbread. asked to substitute.. was told " No" . Then they dont have fountain drinks, just cans of CRUSH. which I do like but would have preferred a Pepsi.. and they were ALL warm. gross. we went to our table and waited for our food to come out. about an average wait time.. food finally comes out.. they give you ZERO utensils... had to ask for a cracker for the crab.. and they only give plastic utensils.. how the heck can you open a crab leg with a plastic fork? we broke about 10 forks.. stupid. and as we were enjoying our meal.. the rude girl behind the cash register walks over to tell us we had to hurry up because they were closing. Never been to a boil before but what a great spot to experience it! We ordered a build your own bag - snow crab ($29) added everythang sauce with heat level weak sauce. What level break down: weak sauce if you're looking for just a small twang of zing. Hot if you're looking for a step up in zing and nose sniffles. Very hot if you're looking to be uncomfortable and teary eyed Ridiculously hot if you're looking to die and have a coming of Jesus meeting. We also ordered corn bread, potatoes, sausage. The corn bread and sausage are worth the extra add ins in my opinion. Cornbread was my favorite with a touch of sweetness, gritty from the corn meal and pieces of jalapeños to compliment the flavors. Conclusion: Get the cornbread. I love how they give you everything you need to compliment your meal: buckets, crackers, scrappers, bibs, gloves, the whole 9 yards! We sat at the bar and Connor the bartender was such a pleasure to have. Shoutout to Connor for strong drinks and hooking us up with to go drinks! Really fun and great experience. Great spot to grab seafood boil! It was our last meal in Chicago and we went all out at Lowcountry. It was happy hour so it was half off beer - I ordered a local brew IPA and it was super tasty, especially with the pound of spicy shrimp (head on) and a la carte side of sausage I was munching on. Sauce wise? I went for the Everything sauce, because go big and then go home, am I right? It was a bit strange to me, since the lemon pepper made it a little tart for my tastes. I've been wanting to go there for a couple of weeks since I moved from Colorado, where we had Juicy Seafood. I really really hoped that this place would be something similar, but I was a little disappointed. I did like the interior, there was no waitlist. They have the self service tables and bar area with 18% gratitude fee. We ordered a pound of shrimps and a pound of mussels with everything seasoning not spicy. The flavors were not the best, felt like we were eating seafood with a plastic flavor. They also forgot to put potatoes in the bag and when we informed the server it took him 20 minutes to bring it to us. By that time we were leaving and we just gave it away to the table next to us. With the pandemic still raging on and businesses struggling, I have to give props to Lowcountry for doing their best in serving the needs for our Cajun cravings. My recent revisit to my former home of Chicago took me back to a place I fell in love with years ago thanks to their solid boils. Some things have changed though that I want to be transparent in sharing about the experience. It is highly recommended that you order take-out. The wait time for dine-in was nearly two hours on a weekday while taking it and leaving would only be an hour. You'll need to enter the restaurant and head to the back to place your order, and they'll text you when it's ready. Dine-In Feel: Just based on what I saw, as much as they're trying to physically distance parties, I honestly felt tables were still WAY too close to each other. With nobody wearing masks as they're eating, I strongly urge you to consider doing take-out. The beloved Combo D (crab and shrimp) with "everythang" sauce and a side of cornbread was almost as good as I remember. Their crab legs were not good this time around and not only was it difficult to crack, but you could tell it was not fresh. The shrimp however was still very good so kudos to them for keeping that going. I would have rather ordered two pounds of shrimp instead. Let me start by saying that I used to live in New Orleans with siblings who are shrimpers, who happens to master their own recipe for crawfish boil. So I kindaaaaa know a thing or two about crawfish. I've also had my fair share of West coast style crawfish/seafood as well. Being in Chicago and our limited access to fresh seafood, I always try to scope out new seafood spots. I've frequent this specific location a few times now, and I will never ever stop talking about their sauce and menu items. The shrimp and crawfish definitely did not taste like the crappy frozen stuff like other places. The crawfish batch we had were really big and meaty. You can really tell these were fresh. The everythang sauce is really everything I could ever ask for in a sauce and then some. The right amount of butter and garlic with a subtle kick of citrus and pepper. I still remember my first time there and getting the level 3 spice, thinking it can't be that. It was spiiiccyyyy. It's a type of spice you can smell and taste right away. But as you eat, the spice will linger and the heat builds up. Ever since that time, I only get level 2 and maybe a level 3 on the side to dip. So be warn, it does get spicy. My favorite side dish has to be the corn bread, and I don't even eat corn bread normally. It's moist, sweet and has a little kick to it. So we my best friend and I came to eat crab!! It's Sweetest Day and my man is at work and she's single so she brought me out... the first uh oh was the bar tender Conner said he just started today and could not make the drink called Fruity Cutie even though the ingredients are on the drink menu under the name of the drink. We have never been here so we found out that this is a self-serve restaurant, so you scan the barcode at your table for the menu then you go to the counter, order your food, and the server brings the food to you. That was different, I've been to other Seafood Boil places and it's not like that. We waited 40 minutes to be seated it's Saturday and really busy, but for it to be busy it's not loud which I appreciate. They are playing different genres of music which is very nice. I found out bartender was filling in and he was super DUPER slow which was not good. I enjoyed my Combo B which is two Crab Clusters two corn and two potatoes and then I has everything seasoning and my temperature choice was hot. It was definitely hot. It also comes with jalapeño cornbread, which was really good and different and a drink. My best friend had a create your own boil. She had shrimp and lobster with corn and potatoes as well and she felt the lobster was over cooked because it was hard to get out of the shell.But she said the shrimp were really good. You have to find street parking or there is a parking lot less than half a block away. It was $7 for two hours we were there two hours and 6 minutes. The first thing you notice when you enter Lowcountry is the atmosphere. Stepping through the door, it feels like you've been transported to a seafood boil in the bayou. From the giant trees growing out of the dividers, to the plant-covered walls, to the string lights hanging from the ceiling, to the grasslike turf on the floor, to the tables adorned with picnic tablecloths, the interior feels more inviting than the cold Chicago weather from which I came. This was my first experience with a seafood boil, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The ordering process is at a counter instead of sit-down, and the menu was a little intimidating for me, as there are various sizes and steps of toppings to choose from. Luckily, there are pre-built combos with the pricing is broken down by size to make it all a bit easier to digest. The cashier was friendly and patient while she guided me through the options and her recommendations. I ended up with the For 2 Boil combo so I could get a good variety. She also convinced me to try the Honey Butter Jalapeno Cornbread and Nutella Stuffed Beignets. After ordering, I had a seat at one of the picnic tables. The seating was a little cramped, as the tables were very close together, so I was right next to the people at the next table. I put on my bib and awaited the experience. While waiting, I ordered the Lowcountry Sweet Tea, which was just the right balance of sugar and booze. I ended up drinking it pretty fast, so I ordered the The Perfect Highball to go with the food. They have this on draft at all times, which is pretty cool. After quite a bit of a wait (which is understandable for a giant bag of food), the meal arrived. The server cut off the top of the bag, and a delicious smelling steam poured out. I dove in and began grabbing things one by one. First a giant snow crab leg, then a shrimp, then corn and a potato. All the juices and spices mixed together wonderfully. Next I had the cornbread, which had the perfect amount of spice. After I ate as much as I could from the bag, I tied it up and the beignets arrived. Wow, these were worth the wait. They were powdery and soft on the inside, and oozed warm, delicious Nutella from the inside upon biting. It was a wonderful end to the meal. While a bit expensive, I would definitely return here for the experience, especially for their happy hour specials. Level 4 is no joke! They warn you it's a slow burn and it really is because when we sampled it (you can ask when you are ordering), we didn't think it was bad, but as you continue eating you start to feel the burn. I also think the level 4 is more thick in sauce consistency than the others. Next time, I would go with level 3. They have bibs and gloves for use. They also give you little cups of water which was kind of annoying to have to go up and down every time. We ordered a pound of shrimp (head on) with sausage. The shrimp were a good size and the shell is soft enough that you can choose to eat it on or off. I started off, but then got lazy. We also got the jalapeno honey cornbread and then fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese - both I highly recommend! The green tomatoes were crispy on the outside, but the tomato was ripe enough that it still gave you that crunch. The pimento cheese was creamy and gives your mouth a calming sensation when you need a break from that level 4. The cornbread was soft and crumbling but also gave my mouth a nice break from the spice. Both are generous portions as well. If craving seafood boil, I think this place is worth a visit! read more

You get everything I listed + an order of cornbread (4 pieces) + 2 cans of soda for only $6 more. Trust me, you can't help it! And no worries, the sink is in the middle of the dining room so you don't have to go too far to clean up. I revisited this place after almost one year. The first experience was so bad that I thought I'd never give this place another chance, but glad I did. The seafood was really fresh! Especially the crawfish was huge! I realized I complained about the flavor of sauce didn't go into the seafood last time. Funny thing is that I ordered sauce on the side this time, so I still won't be able to tell if the sauce problem is solve lol. But hey, I didn't get stuffed with sauce and my hands were not as messy this way. The service was still bad. Spice level tend to be mild - hot was more of mild to medium spicy. I liked head-on shrimps because they weren't overcooked as head-off shrimps. Cauliflowers were the highlight of the meal- soft, creamy and flavorful. We also ordered their happy hour IPA($4) which was cold and refreshing. It is THE place to grab crab boil in the city. Two Fish is black owned and very good as well. Lowcountry has three locations I believe in the city and one in Milwaukee. It is pricey, but very good and there are specials. For instance I went recently for the thanksgiving special. Bottled water and soft drinks, are available to purchase, there is also a bar on the other side. You don't seat yourself, a hostess will seat you. It's great for small tables or large groups. You can order online, and I'm uncertain if reservations are accepted. QR code to scan the menu, but you can also walk up and give someone your order as well if it's not very busy. There are TVs on the wall, music in the background. Parking is available on the street, there is a lot next door $7 for two hours. There are meters on the same street or a few blocks down. Wow I must say I was so excited to try this place! This was by far the worst experience I've had in a while. I arrived at Low Country at 5:22 they opened at 5pm there was a 30 minute wait. Cool I have no problem with waiting. The hostess took my phone number stated they would text/call when the table is ready. I stood outside a few minutes and I got a text. I went back in and told them I got a text they said that was an accident. I watched several groups of two people who went in after me get seated as I waited on my table for two. I am clearly very pregnant (8 months) I stood outside for more than 30 minutes. My friend and I partnered with another small group so that we could be seated faster. The guy at the door allowed several people to hold tables as they waited on everyone from their party to show up. It was four of us he told us we needed 5 people to get a table. So we told him a fifth person would be there shortly. I informed him I've already been waiting over 30 minutes he confirmed my phone number on the list and allowed us to sit at the table. I like the set up of ordering and paying at the register and them bringing your food out. The food came out in a timely fashion. I ordered wings and the shrimp combo. The wings were good l. The shrimp and corn that came in the bad were over cooked. I got the everything sauce the only flavor was garlic and spicy it didn't taste like much. I never liked seafood boils that much, but Lowcountry is doing things right. You'll find that it looks like you walked into somebody's backyard down in New Orleans. The picnic tables and the decor make you feel comfortable and ready to throw down. There's a nice bar to hang out too. It's self serve here, but that doesn't mean service is lacking. There's plenty of staff here to assist with answering any questions that you have, clean up, and they're even smiling. That last bit is something that seems to be lacking at so many places, so what a breath of fresh air to see happy employees. The FOOD. This is legit flavor. Get one of the combinations if this is your first time. I added popcorn chicken to my order, and that was a hit with my wife and kids. Loved the seasoning, and how it stayed on everything. The crab legs were to die for. Lastly, we ended with some beignets, and these were absolutely smothered in powdered sugar. It was so soft and pillowy. We had a larger group and they were super accommodating to try and fit us in as it was fairly busy at the time. You order at the counter and they bring you your food. Honestly everything was so delicious. I ordered a margarita and that was pretty good. My fiancé and I shared 1 lb shrimp (head on) and 1 lb of snow crab legs. We got garlic noodles and corn bread on the side. Oh my god it was all so good. We also got corn but honestly could have done without it. They were a little overcooked in my opinion! The garlic Cajun seasoning from the shrimp and crab were just so flavorful. Definitely recommend getting the garlic noodles and the cornbread. My friend got a lovely photo of me trying to eat the noodles with my hands and that's going to come back and haunt me in a few years. But that's how much I enjoyed the food- even embarrassing photos were worth it. I've also been told that the head on shrimp is better than head off as it's more flavorful! Snow crabs were to die for. Skip the crawfish, not worth it if you are looking for authentic crawfish. They don't do half lbs so I had a lb of crawfish and a cluster of snow crab ($20 a cluster, also not worth it) the Cajun sauce is really gritty so it's not good for the crawfish. I added potatoes to my order and it was 6 huge potatoes that wasn't cooked all the way through, very hard. It's self service so you order up front and they bring it to you however no one checks on you if you have a issue with your order like I did. You have to get back in line which is annoying. My overall experience was bad, wouldn't recommend. read more

Big shout out to our host Big Mike! He is the man! It's all about seafood boil baby! Delicious garlic cajun seasoning juices cooked up into a bag full of seafood goodness. When you first walk in you feel the causal down-home country feeling the atmosphere. It is the self-service restaurant where you get seated by a host and then when you're ready to order you walk up to the cashier and give him or her your order and the server bring it out to you. We had the combo for 2 has 1lb of Shrimp, head off, 1lb of snow crab, 6 corn, 6 potatoes, and cornbread. We added the green beans and popcorn chicken to our dinner. It was amazing! Popcorn chicken was like a spicy salt pepper flavor with a dipping sauce. Crab legs and shrimp were juicy and green beans were bright green with a crunchy bite. Cornbread was deliciously moist and sweet. For dessert, we had to get their beignets which were outstanding! Definitely would want these again. I recommend for everyone to try this happening place. It's getting good Cajun seafood boil right in the heart of south loop Chicago. They also do have a happy hour menu for those looking for something small and a beer after work. So I like the set up. Walk up counter...order your own...take a seat and the order will be right up..flow. I was expecting the price to be a bit high due to location but the feel of the place made me thing it would be at least mildly priced. Taking a glance at the menu ...as expected it was costly for 1/2 pound of snow crab. But it was restaurant week so we took advantage of that menu instead. Way mote food for the price. Other than that...nothing extraordinary about the food. I've had crab in the bag at several local spots and most folks throw some type of spin on the spices. Overall. We came to Lowcountry on a recent visit to Chicago. I've previously had their food at another location and dreamed about being able to come back to enjoy. We both ordered a boil, one combo and one make your own with everythang sauce. I'm a little sad we both got the same sauce because it just didn't taste right. I'm not sure if the lemon used had rind on it or what but the sauce tasted acrid and made some of it inedible. We of course loved the corn bread and ordered extra for our train trip home but it was a disappointing trip to lowcountry this time. The seafood was cooked really well it's just the sauce that ruined the flavor. I'd give it another chance in a future visit to Chicago but may think about other options first. Be aware that they do have an automatic tip for anyone sitting at the bar, 18% which we found reasonable. read more
