Jerk Chicken Lunch with Cabbage and Yams
    Jaleesia R.

I try my best to experience a restaurant at least the minimum of two times before reviewing. I've been here three times... (1st) I went for lunch with my spouse to try the place out. We were about an hour after the "opening hours," and the guy said we can not order until the cashier arrives. She is running late. So we left and attempted to order by phone 30 mins later. Still no answer. *Assuming we would try again another day. (2nd) Waited about a week and tried again. We were able to order. The food was fresh, warm and was flavored well. We ordered the Jerk Chicken lunch with cabbage and yams just test out the place. We were pleased with our meals. (3rd) Came back about 2-3 weeks later. Around 12:30pm. The place was closed again for online and phone ordering only due to heat being broken. I went to call to place my order and there was no answer. This new location has great food but are very inconsistent with their opening hours and operation. (SN: We were regulars for the Crisp & Cool Cafe and were sad to see them go. Amazing family.)

Talking to a friend about how I loved jerk chicken in Jamaica and he told me I had to go here. 100% worth the stop. Legit Caribbean/jamaican food and a really friendly and helpful staff. Thank you!

The food was delicious! This has to be one of my favorite places to go for if I want to grab lunch or dinner. The price is amazing and you definitely get a good bang for your buck.. as you can also see the portion sizes are pretty decent and so I typically always have leftovers and end up having leftovers. Since I'm pescatarian, I've had the red snapper as well as I've also had the catfish and both of them have been amazing.. I'm usually not fan of trying different types of cuisines, but they have really opened me up to exploring.. They also are really good with feedback. I remember I told them how the first time I had something it was too spicy so they actually held the sauce on the side for me the next time which I really appreciate it and if you go during lunch, you get everything for under almost $20 which is amazing. I can't wait for them to really spruce up the place though.. and make it more of a place where people want to sit in because usually people are just grabbing and going when it comes to this place and I really think that they could have a good spot where people would wanna hang out at too if they invest in it

Jerk chicken, lunch, special, sides of cabbage and plantains. Amazing.

Incredible lunch of jerk chicken, cabbage, and plantains for under $15 at Uncle Joe's Rum bar and Grill, 1450 S. Michigan Ave. Very casual pace with the nicest people. They even threw a complementary glass of rum punch! This place has only been open for four months, give it your support because it's wonderful and needs to stay!

My friend and I stopped by Uncle Joe's Rum Bar and Grill for lunch, and wow--what a spot! I ordered the oxtail dinner, and it was straight-up super delicious. The oxtail was perfectly tender, fall-off-the-bone, and smothered in this rich, flavorful sauce that had me licking the plate (no shame). It came with sweet plantains that were caramelized just right, cabbage on the side, seasoned macaroni, and rice and beans topped with more of that amazing oxtail sauce. Every bite was packed with flavor--total comfort food heaven. The service was great too--our server Nikki was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything came out hot and quick. The restaurant itself is clean, welcoming, and has a nice vibe (perfect for a casual lunch hangout). This was my first time here, but it definitely won't be my last. I'm already planning my next visit to try more items on the menu--maybe some jerk or curry next time. Highly recommend if you're craving authentic, hearty Caribbean food in the area! Uncle Joe's Rum Bar and Grill - you've got a new regular.

My fellow traveling house heads trusted my foodie instincts, but there was a little skepticism until our rideshare driver gave it his enthusiastic vote of confidence! Garifuna Flava is a Black-owned restaurant celebrating the rich flavors and traditions of Belizean, Caribbean, Latin, and Indigenous Garifuna cuisine. The restaurant isn't fancy, yet it is warm, welcoming, and one of the owners even took time to share the history of the Garifuna people with one of my friends. And making the experience even more authentic was the soundtrack of Caribbean and reggae music, which had us swaying, singing along, and feeling right at home like a spot in the Caribbean or Brooklyn. As for the food, it was DELISH! I enjoyed tender oxtails with yams, fried sweet plantains, rice, and stew beans. It was comfort food that tasted like a home-cooked meal. A nice cold Ting was the perfect pairing. I couldn't resist sampling a dining partner's shrimp dish, which was also flavorful. Garifuna Flava is located in Chicago Lawn, often referred to locally as Marquette Park on Chicago's Southwest Side. The neighborhood is home to the beautiful 323-acre Marquette Park, designed by the Olmsted Brothers (sons of the designer of Central Park), and holds an important place in the city's civil rights history. Thank you, Garifuna Flava, for a delicious meal and a cultural experience I'll remember. I'll definitely be back. But don't just take my word for it, go experience the yummyliciousness for yourself! Mmmm... #BonAppetit! Cheers!

The meat was juicy, the seasoning was delicious and the sauce that came with it was tangy, sweet and wasn't too spicy. But those candied yams OMG! They must have added some fruit like pineapple because it added a little tangy kick that balances so well with the sweetness and added another dimension! So as soon as Jerky Jerk showed up on my Yelp search, I knew my search had ended, and that we found our pre-game dinner spot. Jerky Jerk blew my expectations out of the water. I'm a Chicago native, but I live in LA, where I'm lucky to be surrounded by many delicious Jamaican food spots. But Jerky Jerk has the best jerk chicken I've ever had. When I say that the smoky, slightly sweet, tender, fall-of-the-bone experience hit the spot, I mean that it HIT THE SPOT! Even the rice & peas and cabbage were cooked and spiced to perfection. All three of us devoured our plates in about ten minutes. I also love the colorful and lively Chicago sports murals that fill each wall, as well as the hospitable and vibrant service from the owners. They absolutely rock. They throw a party inside, and they make you feel welcomed and right at home. Jerky Jerk is now a non-negotiable stop when visiting Chicago. This place slaps.

Our server was quick and pleasant. He was refilling and offering new drinks before we even knew we needed them. Ambiance is fun at The Wild Hare. The live music in the back room int he evenings are definitely where it's at. I would recommend checking out the event calendar on their website to help pick which day you may want to come. My only complaint is that I really wish the DJ played more reggae in the restaurant. I expected to have a full reggae night, but all the way up until the live band, it was mostly hip hop and R&B with the occasional reggae throwback. Give us more; we came for the reggae vibes!

The owner Eric is so sweet and down to earth he makes you feel like an old friend visiting from the homeland. Katie was supper sweet and very informative on all the menu and drinks. I decided to try the Entre Las Sabanas made with Bacardi & Conac it was so good I asked for a second one. My wife had Tamarindo non alcohol because she was driving, we also asked for the Hummus de Gandules that was so different and so yummy served with plantain chips. For dinner I had shrimps with arroz blanco and pink beans my dinner was so good. My wife had vistec encebollado with rice and beans, she loved it. Our dessert was pudding de pan. It's a must restaurant to visit if you like Puerto Rican food. I highly recommend this restaurant and on weekends it's highly recommend to make reservations. I will certainly return again.
