I just finished building a detached garage myself and spent about an equal $5,000 each at Lowe's and Home Depot for portions of the project. I have been into this Lowe's about 25 times in the last year alone and customer service has always been good. I am surprised that some reviewers could not get help. One advantage Lowe's has over Home Depot is the call buttons in various departments. Push the button and there is an automated public address announcement that a customer needs assistance at electrical, wood cutting, etc. Their employees obviously get rated on how fast they respond as it is always quick and they want to acknowledge the button push quickly. Home Depot has nothing comparable. Lowe's also returns into the store and keeps available their shopping carts of various types better than Home Depot. At Home Depot I look for the cart I need in the parking lot since otherwise there is a good chance i will have to return outside to get it any way. I have done special orders (Hardie Board, windows) at this store and not had a problem in the past with delivery or quality. Lowe's will also give veterans a 10%discount on Veteran's Day which is always nice. One of the best benefits for consumers is having both Home Depot and Lowe's in the same town as service will be better as they try to stay competitive. For lumber products I found that Systems Plus Lumber Company in Anderson has lower prices, good service, and delivery charges to outlying areas much lower than Home Depot, Lowe's, or Meeks (say $30 instead of $100). read more

I needed some help with a list of fencing material that I was given by my fencing contractor. I was a little unsure of what some of the items were. Even though it wasn't his forte, Chuck in the garden/patio department took my list and researched every item to make sure I was ordering exactly what I needed. We went over the quote and he ordered everything to be delivered out to my location. He followed up to make sure that I received everything and was completely happy. Chuck was a pleasure to work with and is a great asset to our local Lowe's. I appreciated the personal attention and was extremely happy with the service that I received. Purchased materials for a fence and contracted through Lowe's for installation. Estimator came out within a few days and was very professional. Installer called a week or so later to schedule. Was supposed to be here on 12/5 between 10am and noon - so of course we schedule our day around him and finally after calling Lowe's at 4pm to find out where he is, the guy shows up at 5pm - when it is dark! Said he's late due to a water leak on a job he is on - Ever heard of calling the customer to let them know???? Says he can't start until he knows where PGE and water lines are located and blames that on the estimator. He calls PGE and when PGE came out to mark the location of lines, they said they called him twice and when they asked for him by name, he said no one here by that name and hung up. Who is this guy hiding from??? Yes, they did have the correct number. He called today at 4:45 to get the address (he was already out there once!!) and my husband told him not to bother showing up. So disgusted with Lowe's at this point. They did refund us 10% or $110 of the cost of materials, but installation charges are another $2,000. Now it is 10 days past our original installation date and we are left to find our own installer. It would be nice if these big box stores got some references and background on these guys they contract with. I will NEVER do business with Lowes's again!!! read more

I was purchasing some random home improvement stuff with my husband and child, I believe it was a Saturday. We got mostly garden stuff from the outside garden department, including some plants and some pots. We also got some wood for trim for the house. So, we get to the checkout, over by the wood stuff. The OTHER side of the store from the garden center. The checker (who has obviously found his dream job....) cant find a price on the pot I chose. So, he tries to look it up somehow. Checker: I think it is $19.95 Me: It is $12.95. I remember. Checker: The computer doesnt have this pot, so I can just charge you $19.95 if you want Me: I dont want. It was not that expensive. Isnt there someone you can call, or do I need to walk all the way back out to the other side of the store and get another pot and hope it is marked. Checker: [blank stare] Me: [ angrily and slowly walking back out to the garden center. On my trek I pass about 1378476 employees doing jack sh*t. I get the pot. It cost $12.95] Here is the pot. Checker: [blank stare] Yeah, so the customer service is what you expect from a store that probably pays minimum wage and treats its employees like they shop there. Very rude, I was being helped by Customer Support on the phone, just now 15:53 on 10/02/17, I was very cordial and was hoping that the person that actually helped me at the counter, might be able to help me on the phone. Another girl had answered the phone and was going to get Gabby, the gal I believed to have helped me at the counter. I was on hold for about 5 minutes, when someone picked up the phone and just hung up. I got nothing. I am not very pleased with that interaction, I am not going to call back for the fear I might not be so cordial. I just needed to put that out there. I've spent thousands at this store and, as a rule, I'm happy with the products and staff. Two complaints, though. First, they leave their ladders blocking too many aisles when they should find a location less inconvenient for customers. More importantly, they refuse to answer the phone. Today, I've called the garden center FIVE times and no one will answer. The operator is helpful and even pages the garden center and STILL no one will answer. I simply wished to ask one simple question about availability of a product. Lowes loses a LOT of business because of this since I know of two other people who tried to call for information and received exactly zero help by phone. Teaching employees to always answer should be a no-brainer if customer service is supposedly offered. read more

I used to shop at Lowe's in Redding and, to be fair, it was a good place to shop. But then one incident caused me to stop shopping there: I was driving behind a Lowe's truck which kicked up a rock and cracked my windshield. I managed to stop the driver and he was very nice and apologetic. So we went to the store and reported the incident. Long story short, my claim was denied by headquarters and the local manager said he couldn't help me. (Hard to believe as I've worked at several businesses and we always had petty cash / slush funds for things like this.) So bottom line was I ended up being out $275 for a new windshield. In my opinion, no matter what the legalities/technicalities, to me it amounts to lousy customer service. Just saying. read more

Tom D'Chevy, Lowes, Redding, CA assisted us in choosing the appropriate kitchen appliances for my mother's home. He listened to our needs, answered all our questions and explained the home inspection, ordering of selected products, delivery & installation. We also needed to purchase a new toilet & he included that in the inspection process rather than sending us to another department for a separate transaction. He was knowledgeable, patient, polite. He was made aware of my mother's limited mobility & provided options for us to complete the signing of the contract. I will admit that I was dreading the shopping trip but left the store pleased with the experience & look forward to the delivery & installation. Most important, Mom is excited! Customer service is pathetic in this store. Lots of staff doing anything except helping customers. The managers at this store should be ashamed of themselves for hiring the staff they have and for not training them properly to help customers. I could not find what I was looking for so I asked one of the many staff that were available who just sent me back to where I was and could not find what I was looking for. Asked another staff member who pointed me in the general direction. Never found it. Went home tired and determined to never ever return. The people of Redding deserve better than this poorly managed Lowes store. read more

Had another wonderful experience with Lowe's Flooring. The flooring manager, Aaron is great! I watched him bounce between meeting my needs and being pulled eight other directions - literally eight people had waited to come to Lowe's flooring because Aaron had been out on vacation and they all wanted to deal directly with him. I have had a great experience with all of the people on the floor - always someone there to offer to help me. As a woman it is not always easy for me to shop for home improvement products so I am happy to take my business to Lowe's where they will not only help me but will give me a great deal. I did not buy carpet but was amazed at the return policy for a woman ahead of me who special ordered her carpet. She was told that she could cancel the order and have her money returned up until the installation was scheduled - even after the carpet had been delivered to the store. Amazing! I've read several negative reviews about the Redding Lowe's flooring department. We are currently dealing with them and having a questionable experience so far. How come every time you try and get assistance from an employee there they act like you are completely putting them out and are a burden?? It's your job! I politely tried to ask a simple question over the phone about the next step since our floors were just measured and the guy responded very defensively like I was being rude or something. So bizarre! My husband also experienced very bad customer service from a checker. He was in the self checkout line and walked up to a broken register. The checker next to him rudely said "you'd think a red light would let someone know its not working" and then continued to talked crap about my husband to the customer she was ringing out. He won't stand by and not say something so he made her ring him up and told her off for being rude. This is long but it is necessary for context; I'm not very happy with Lowe's on East Cypress in Redding, CA. Let me explain; I placed an online order and at the time of my order the stores website said they had all the items in stock. So I paid with my Lowe's card and placed my order and waited and waited for the your order is ready for pickup email. I finally get the email head to the customer service desk to pickup the order I already paid for. By this time it's late in the day. I give the clerk my information and she tells me it looks like all of your order hasn't been pulled she said it's been a rough day because 7 employees called in and they are short handed. I accepted this and said can you get the items pulled that have not and can I have the order loaded in my truck due to my disability. The clerk said sure and told me to go to the covered loading area. I get there and the clerk there prints out what I'm picking up and tells me I have to pay a pallet charge the cement I ordered was sitting on. So I pay the charge and the store is getting ready to close at this point. They start to load my truck and the guys tell me "I don't think your truck can handle the weight" so I say I will take half the order now and return the next day it's not raining for the remainder of the order. Now I give the store two stars instead of one because of one employee Jeremiah. He was polite, and understanding of my frustration over my order and told me he would label my remaining order and date it for pickup in a couple days after the rain given I was picking up cement. So I return go to customer service to see if the remainder of my order might have come in and the young lady tells me no they cancelled it and not only that, I wasn't charged for one of the items I already picked up and she was going to charge me again for it. I didn't want to argue I just wanted my order so I told her I need those items please charge me for them and have them loaded with the remainder of my order. She was obviously not happy about my request but called someone to pull the items. So I finish at customer service and go to the loading area. While they are bringing my items out I get a refund for the pallet charge as I was having them load the last 15 bags in my truck by hand. The guys arrive with my order and instead of loading it as I had asked they load the pallet and all so I tell them I don't want the pallet because I don't want to make an extra trip to return it to which this bald employee says to the guy driving the forklift "this guy is giving me shit". So I told them both, I don't want to make an extra trip back here because you don't want to load my order. They were obviously not happy to hear that so the guy on the forklift says just take the pallet because it's easier and just return it the next time your coming here. The attitudes and incompetence handling this simple order earned them this review. I will follow up when the charges hit my card to see if I was charged multiple times for the same items. read more

I've had three different keys made at this location, by different clerks. Each key I had made was defective and didn't work. I will not be returning to have my keys made here. They've been nice, but kind of defeats the purpose if I'm not getting what I've paid for... and having to waste more gas going back and forth each time it's been wrong is just more of a hassle. Only reason why I've chosen Lowe's over Home Depot is the cleanliness and how nice they keep it. read more

Visited this location to purchase mulch that was on a great sale price - 5 bags for $10.00. I went to garden area and the spot was empty, but they had a pallet of it up on the steel above the empty spot. I proceeded to look around the garden area seeking an employee that may be lift certified to get it down as there was a forklift sitting right by the empty spot. I found no one other than two outside vendors. I went to the cashier running the only open register. She told me "good luck, it probably won't happen, (points at a customer sitting on a stool), he's been waiting for a long time for a fork lift driver to come load his bags of mulch in to his truck" I asked her to call someone to help. She then got out her printed schedule and began highlighting all the employees and telling me whether they were off for the day or just away on breaks. Quite honestly, I was on my lunch break and didn't care to hear her scheduling problems. Another cashier came up (not to open another register) and looked over her shoulder. She pointed out someone named Jim that was certified and told her to call him. I went back to waiting by the empty spot. Jim came about 10 minutes later, hopped on the lift, joked with an employee on the outside of the gate about Redding tweakers and how bad Redding residents act when it's a full moon, doesn't acknowledge me at all, and drives off on the lift. The guy he was talking to asks me what I want. I tell him, and he walks off, too. 15 more minutes go by and I decide to go to the checkout, pay for my mulch and take my receipt to come back for pick up at a later time. While waiting in the only line open with about 10 other customers, the same gate keeper guy comes up on foot and tells the cashier that they are now out of stock of the item that I clearly saw up on the steel. I used to be a big supporter of Lowes, but after my last shopping experience I will not be shopping there anymore. I received a electronic gift card, as I have many times before. And I headed to do some shopping. When I made it up to the register to check out the cashier told me she wouldn't be able to accept the gift card because I had not printed it out. The instructions specifically say - to redeem your gift card from a mobile device display the gift card number and associated pin to the cashier at time of purchase. Cashier: hand key the gift card number and associated pin into POS... nothing about printing it out. When I mentioned that to her she said she still could not take and that they had been having issues with bad gift cards and that was the new policy for the last few months. OK... except I had just been in there three days before and it wasnt a problem and the total on that purchase was more! And I could pull up on the Lowes website that there was indeed a balance on the card. I paid cash and left upset. Even though I was upset by the service I went back later with my gift card because I wasn't able to spend it on that occasion but I didn't want to just throw away $60 I went back and used my gift card no problem. AND I used it from my mobile!!! I DID NOT have to provide a printed copy!!! I went home and called to file a complaint and was told I could get a 10% discount if I came back. I don't want 10%, I want all the staff trained properly in one way, have the fine print to reflect that training, not waste my gas and time, and not be singled out as potentially dishonest for some unknown reason! As a developer and owner-builder, I thoroughly know ALL the hardware/home improvement stores in and around Redding. This Lowe's is amazing really. I usually stay away from big box stores but these guys have won me over. I always check here first. The home depot down the road is just plain horrible. Meek's is pretty good but pricey. I have always been able to find help, get a forklift to pull something down, the manager has given me discounts when there was a problem and made me a happy customer. Absolute shout-out to Shaun in millworks!!! He answered all my tedious questions, got me great prices and was very responsive. I've read the other reviews on here and it seems like isolated cases, or folks who got upset and wanted to complain, fair enough. But my many many experiences with every hardware store in town = this Lowe's is my go-to place. Thanks you guys for making my life easier and saving me time and money. read more

So after my third time at this lowes that I have to drive an hour to from shingletown, they screwed up every visit with them so far. When you walk in a store to get specific items and you put them in your cart you expect to walk out with those same items, unfortunately this is not the case for me, after getting gardening equipment I notice only 9 out of 10 pieces were in my bag, the first thing I put on the counter never made it in my bag, the one thing that connects the system to a water main. So I drove an hour to buy everything but only got sold the system and the setup piece I grabbed and put in my cart. Another time I go here because a water main at the house had broken and we were unable to use water, I walked into a sign that says "experts for every job" so I head to plumbing and show them pictures and explain my situation, this A** MUNCHER proceeds to tell me the item I'm looking for doesn't exist and spends 10 minutes explaining why "I WAS WRONG" so I say to the A** MUNCHER I'll buy ANY PIECES NEED TO REPAIR MY WATER IN MULTIPLE SIZES TO GARANTEE MY SUCCESS ON THE JOB. I drove an hour home to find out that the one I've named A** MUNCH sold me literally everything that had nothing to do with the style pipes I had. I drive 20 minutes to the ACE in shingletown and get sold the item in less than 5 minutes and it worked and fit I didn't have to buy 6 pieces cause the guy had no clue about his own department. I"LL NOT BE HERE A FOURTH TIME AND SUGGEST OTHERWISE FOR ANYONE WHO SEES THE POSTIVE TRICKERY REVIEWS. there are no experts here they will send you home without what you need every time at least that's my experience so far, I'm not suggesting anywhere else but trust this lowes sucks. read more

We purchased a new home in Redding and were eager to start our kitchen remodel which we wanted to do before we moved in. We saw some appliances online that we wanted to purchase through Lowe's. However, we had some questions about the delivery process. We wanted to know how soon we could we get our appliances, do they do installs, do they deliver on weekends and stuff like that. I called the store and was put through to the delivery depart. The girl that answered the phone addressed herself as Emily. Emily placed me on hold for over 10 minutes. I called back and the operator told me that Emily had left for the day. Even though I was annoyed that Emily was so forgetful as to leave me hanging on the phone I gave her the benefit of the doubt and chalked it up to her maybe being really busy that day. The next day we went into the store and to our disbelief we found that not only was Emily forgetful on the phone she lacked customer service in person. She was extremely rude. We left Lowe's very unhappy and went to Home Depot where we were treated much differently. They were very kind and helpful. They answered all of our questions without hesitation. Our new refrigerator, double oven and microwave come in soon. We can't wait. Next we are remodeling the laundry area and we will definitely be purchasing our washer and dryer from Home Depot. We don't recommend Lowe's for your delivery needs. read more
