If you enjoy being treated like an inconvenience and paying way too much for basic groceries, Lowe's Grocery Store is the place for you. The employees must have been trained in rudeness--zero patience, no help, just pure attitude. As for the prices, I'm pretty sure they think they're selling gold, not bread and milk. Shopping here felt like a bad joke, and I won't be coming back unless I want a side of attitude with my overpriced food. Avoid at all costs! read more

Love this Hispanic market! It is the Hispanic arm of the the Lowe's grocery chain. So expect more technology than a mom and pop - self checkout lanes, things like that. But what you should come here for is the amazing produce, marinated meat options, and glorious candy and sundry aisles. You can find special items that you wouldn't be able to anywhere else. I specifically came for fresh yuca root, jarred aji Amarillo chili paste, and sugar cane sodas. I found it all! I would love to come back and try out some of the marinated meats. I like it. Where else can you buy a 25 lb pail of lard? Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables at good to average prices. Huge dried spice selection. We came here for dried cascabel chiles and we found them. There are numerous aisles of sugary items: sodas, snacks, candies. A diabetic coma waiting to happen. Friendly checker. This place is magical! I was running late to a potluck and needed to grab something to bring, and just happened upon the Mercado. I found a piñata I didn't know I needed, and everything else that I had known I'd needed but hadn't known where to find. As Denver becomes increasingly white/gentrified, finding gems like the Mercado where you can get authentic Latino food is rare. The fruit and spices were on point, as was the frozen section. I was en route to a party or I would have stocked up on my maracuya and other items for a nice batido. I was a little disappointed in the veggies---don't get me wrong there were peppers and stuff that are necessary to make some solid meals, but if I had to rely on Mercado as my sole grocer I would feel like I was missing out on a wider variety of produce. I noticed that a couple of other reviewers felt unwelcome here--I definitely didn't get that vibe, but if you're white and you go into a mostly non-white space and feel like an outsider, maybe it's good to sit with that discomfort. Maybe that's how you make other people feel in your spaces a lot of the time (whether you mean to or not). Maybe no one likes to feel that way and it's a good lesson in how not to make others feel unwelcome, instead of assuming that you should always be extended the privilege without extending the same to others. And before I'm off my soap box, I will just say: don't act like a tourist. This is a grocery store where folks get the ingredients to make their lives. For them, the things that you may feel are wild feel like home. I only lived in Latin America briefly, but being here brought me right back and I can only imagine what it must feel like for someone who is actively missing home. read more

I love this place! They have big bags of New Mexican ground chili, which I use for a lot of cooking, and a lot of other good spices, at good prices. The ground chili is not available where I live, in Boston! There were many other foods here I would buy if I did not have to carry them home on the airplane. I got good service, and people were very friendly - but I'm used to speaking Spanish at places where most people have it as their first language. I suspect if one bothered to learn some basic pleasantries, you could also expect good service. It's not hard! And it's widely spoken in USA, so worth learning some. read more

Thrilled to see Lowe's Mercado where Avanza used to be. Their produce is amazing. Seriously. Fill your cart. It's cheap, it's good. Avocados. Roma Tomatoes. Peppers, Onions, Potatoes, Pineapples, Mamey, Mangoes, Papaya... And tons, tons, tons more. The Bakery. Tres Leches? Um, yes. All of it. Now. There are also rolls, pastries and cookies. But I'll stick with my beloved Tres Leches. Brings me right back to the open air walk-up cafecito windows in my beloved hometown of Miami. Que Rico! The meat counter was clean, had awesome cuts of lots of meats that I can't find out here in Denver all the time. (Skirt Steak (For churrasco!) Flank, oxtail, more.) Pork and Chicken, too. All priced right. I saw Guava Paste in the 6 inch tin, and I was in Heaven. A good $3 cheaper than other Hispanic markets in the area, too! The grocery selection was good, I want to go and spend more time there. They also had things like laundry detergent, plastic wrap, soaps, etc. I'll pretty much be hitting it up for the Tres Leches and fruits, and I'll be trying the meats this summer. read more

This is a nice Latin market on the southwest side of town. I go there to get my jalapenos, lemons, tomatoes for dirty cheap price. Their bread is also fresh and tasty. If you are going to make tamales, they have pre-made dough, so save you some time. I knew that South Federal was a wonderland of food, and it didn't let me down with Avanza! When planning a cocktail party, I knew I'd need a lot of citrus. But at 50-80 cents per lemon in my neighborhood, the party was getting expensive. I knew there had to be a good Latino market that would have produce to fit my needs and my budget. I found Avanza on Yelp and hopped on the 30 bus. As expected, I found limes 10 for $1, and good prices on the rest of my citrus needs. I also picked up some inexpensive nectarines and plums. I'll be back to try their meat department and their beautiful cakes, too. read more

Happy to have found this market! Recently moved to Denver and needed to find a store like Vallarta (that's in LA). Finding this place warms my heart because there isn't too many Latino markets closer to downtown. I easily found everything I need for the ponche I will be making for Christmas. Ever since I returned from Mexico, my taste buds have never been the same. I love authentic Mexican food. No, I'm not talking about Taco Bell, nor am I talking about those posh Mexican-American fusion places. REAL Mexican food. This supermarket has all the ingredients to prepare a truly authentic Mexican meal: fresh corn tortillas, carne al pastor, Spanish chorizo, mole sauce, adobe sauce, salsa verde, oaxaca cheese, cilantro, key limes, etc. For dessert, they have tons of plantains and mangoes to make a sweet dish; it really reminds me of good times going crazy at rural fruit stands because plantains and mangoes were so abundant there. Above all, their bakery has my favorite Mexican dessert: a whole tres leches cake soaked in condensed milk for $7.50! Individual slices are only $2.60. For drinks, they have Tecate beer, Inca Kola (although Peruvian), and assorted fruit punches to make aqua fresca. With a grocery cart full of the items mentioned above, walking in a store full of brightly colored pinadas, and all of a sudden saying "con permiso" instead of "excuse me," I had to pick up some corn dogs, Cheetos, and Coors beer to go back feeling more like an American. 1 star off: long wait at check-out line read more

Ok it's like this...if you are planning an event and want to look like you spent over a grand on food and desert, come to Arvanza and spend about one fifty on the same thing. This place is loaded with goodies, and it's not just for a Latino meal, ie-some of the most beautiful birthday cakes I've ever seen are made here, so pretty the birthday princess may not even want to cut it! Between this place and Little Saigon just up the street you have a huge selection of unbelievable deals on about 2/3rds of the international market. The 1/3rd element, unfortunately about 30 minutes away, is Arash, where I can find more of an Eastern European flavor amongst the other goods...if anyone knows where I can find ground lamb and other goodies close to this place, let me know! read more

Avanza is a good market for all the ingredients you may need for your Mexican meal. I shop there often and have always found the selections and quality to be reasonable. I would give them 4 stars, but I am really bothered by the little trick that I think they pull on shoppers. Everything you buy at Avanza, seems reasonably priced when you look at the prices. But beware! There is a 10% charge added to your total bill at checkout. Why? Who the hell knows! I think it is somewhat misleading (although they have signs every two feet telling you that they will add 10%) and unfortunate. Nonetheless, a good store with a friendly and helpful staff and the place to go for Mexican goodies. read more

3 words: Mexican food heaven Lowe's Mercado is everything I ever want in a Mexican supermarket. Back home in Sunnyvale, CA, there were an abundance of Mexican supermarkets close by to my house. Once I moved here, I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to find what I needed to make dishes like tamales and posole. Yelp strikes again with finding me a great place! Lowe's has a great selection of produce that is pretty fresh and super affordable. I'll usually buy things like limes (6 for $1), spices, and chiles here regularly because the selection is so much better (and often cheaper too!) than regular American supermarkets. They have all the things I'm used to getting at supermercados--chiles, corn husks, spices, snacks, beans, Mexican produce, crema, etc! There's also a good lookin' meat section with fresh cuts for various Mexican dishes, as well pre-marinated meats. I haven't tried those yet, but I did get a tub of manteca for usage in tamale making and other cooking preparations. Anything you need for a Mexican food night, Lowe's got you covered :) read more

I love Avanza! I used to be intimidated by the nearly complete Spanish signs but in the recent years Avanza has mostly bi-lingual signs. Avanza is one of the most brightly-lit grocery stores I've stepped foot in but it only adds character. Avanza has an excellent produce section with a great selection of peppers and chili, rice, beans, every Mexican spice and sauce base imaginable, and some great Mexican cheese. There are some turn-offs about Avanza. Their meat section is deli-style but smells suspiciously meaty and a tad rank. Though the meat looks okay, I generally veer away from it. Also, their pandaderia is pretty pathetic when I've been around, usually a few stale pastries in a small bakery area. The do offer, as most Mexican groceries should, HUGE Tres Leche cakes. So don't let the baked items keep you away from a giant Mexican party cake. Avanza. The one stop destination for limes, horchata, and jewelry. Haha,yes. They have a very ghetto looking jewelry store inside the grocery. What more could one ask for? read more

I've just returned from Lowe's having purchased 10 limes for $1, 4 small avocados for $1, and a pound of perfectly seasoned carne adobada for $1.99! Those prices are unheard of at the King Soopers and Safeways in the area. They have everything you need to stock your produce bin or cook a great Mexican meal. The selection of meat and Mexican cheeses was excellent, and they have lots of prepackaged cookies and pastries as well as ones presumably made in-house. I seriously do not know why I hadn't stopped here before. read more

I think I'm ready to drive the extra couple of miles in the opposite direction to go to this grocery store when I need produce. I really like their produce section. This place practically has a mountain of Jalapenos, plus fresh key limes, other assorted peppers, and lots of spices. This place must compliment my tastes nicely because everything I bought there tastes like burning. A dozen Jalapenos, 9 bottles of El Yucateco (Sadly, that's maybe only a 2-month supply) and lots of assorted dried chiles and spices. Street taco night is easy if you buy some prepared chopped meat from the butcher here. Pork Al Pastor, Chorizo, adobada beef, whatever you want, at around $3 a pound. They already did all the work with the chopping and spices, all you need to do is fry it up in a pan or on a sheet of non stick foil on the grill. A little goes a long way. The rest is standard taco materials, all available here at very reasonable prices. OK, the butcher shop isn't as pretty as King Soopers but get past that and give it a try, you'll be glad you did. In produce the special this week was 10 limes for a buck, which was the topper for me as King Soopers was 59 cents each. The staff is very friendly, but an Ola Hello at the cashier is polite. Try out your Spanish if you have any. If you don't, get some, it helps. Such nice people. Give them respect. Not everything here is a great deal, some things are oddly priced and higher than expected but if you know the current pricing of things you can buy the items you cannot get elsewhere. Its a good selection and some items I have no found anywhere else. This is a very good store. read more

Go to town on the produce selection. It's inexpensive, fresh, and absolutely delicious. This is one of the only places I've found that you can find bulk jamaica flowers, and at 5 something per pound, it's an awesome deal for a drink that will keep you cool all summer long. The meat market is killer, especially the pre-seasoned beef and pork. The rest of the grocery store is pretty wonderful as well, with a full selection of groceries, and a good cheese selection. There's a panaderia inside with freshly baked goods... so tempting, always. Most of the staff speak both Spanish and English, so fellow gringos, swallow your fears and head into this wonderful grocery store. You'll be the happiest. read more

Finally a place to buy real Mexican products and at great prices! I love to come here and buy the prepared meats to grill, there are chicken fajitas, bone in chicken, steak, pork etc. They are all preseasoned and sold at VERY reasonable prices. 2lbs of carne asada for $12. The produce selection isnt as big in terms of variety of foods i.e there is one type of banana one type of strawberry etc. But i find it makes the shopping quicker. the prices on the produce are much cheaper than even king supers. If this wasn't so far from my house id shop here every week. The store is very clean and there are plenty of available staff around for help. I hosted a taco party for Labor Day, and I wanted to do it on a dime, so after thorough research and reading of Yelp reviews, I ventured over to Lowe's Mercado. I was pretty impressed with their selection and pricing. I think I spent over an hour looking at every single item in every single aisle, and I ended up serving tacos, drinks and dessert to about 20 people for $100, and having plenty of leftovers! The tres leches cake was delicious, I think I ate 1/4 of it by myself, although the strawberry in the center was moldy the day after I purchased it (the day of the party), so that was a bit of a disappointment. Also, the produce is inexpensive, but a lot of the avocados were over-ripe and I had to sift through to find the better, unbruised fruit. No biggy, but that's why I only rated them 4 stars. I loved the marinated chicken and beef I bought. I'd go back for that alone, but I also REALLY want to sample more items from the bakery. Cliffs: Great selection, excellent prices. read more

Great place for cheap produce! It's probably the cheapest in the city. It's pretty much the only thing I buy here. Their butcher prices are decent for fresh meat and they have a decent selection of shrimp. I also enjoy browsing the bakery department, but have not had the courage to try any of the crazy looking breads/pastries yet. The rest of the grocery aisles are lots of off-brand products that aren't very cheap for what you can get at a regular market though. Parking can be a bit treacherous as it seems no one knows how to park around here. You may also get run over by several of the big pickup trucks that go zooming in and out. read more

Always when I go to Avanza I smell the wonderful aroma of various peppers in the air! AAAHHHH So nice!! The products here are very Mexican and Latino based so if you know what you are doing with this type of cooking you can make some really authentic dishes!! Much of the products are in Spanish so that may be a challenge so it is a real plus if you know your Spanish! If you do not the staff will be more than willing to assist you in finding what you need! read more

Overpriced, compared to the Latin grocery stores I am familiar shopping at in Albuquerque. They did have the Oxacan queso, but no salsa bar. King Soopers has better prices on Latin foods, and produce. No Taqueria too, I won't necessarily be back. read more

Wishing it was a true Latin market. It has a decent bakery and South American spice selection but the prices are comparable to that of Sprouts and King Soopers. Only certain small items like lines are much cheaper. read more

Great Mexican market. Good selection, both for the dry goods as well as the produce. Most of the produce looked fresh. Prices were great. Most anything you might need for a good Mexican meal can be found here. Checkout line was a bit slow. But the people were friendly. Will be back. read more
