I wanted to find a local mechanic and build a relation ship to do maintenance work and a few other items that I wanted to do with the car The reviews of Billy's seemed pretty good and he's close to where I live. I went there last week met with the office manager told they what I was looking for. They said to come back next week after a certain time and he'll be able to meet with you. Went there today as instructed even though it was overcast and a slight drizzling rain. Keep in mind it's never seen rain the vehicle. But I figured it'll be worth it. It'll be a short meeting just merely an introduction describing what I want to do with the car and see if you'd be interested and available to work on it. I was prepared if he said he had no time for me and that would've been fine. I know how these shops can be. I met with office manager. They said it was a kind of a bad morning. I was working on a car. They went back and asked him when they came back. They said have a seat and I'll come out as soon as you can. Sat there for over an hour with my car getting rained on. Eventually just left. If they're not available to meet with you after requesting you to show up at a certain day and time there's just no value having that person as your mechanic as good as they may be or not. Office manager should've just said right off the bat. It's not a good time. I apologize and just reschedule for another time. Would've been a much more of a professional answer and I would not have had a problem with that. I'm a contractor. I know how things go sideways. My recommendation is if you're a first time client trying to get in and build a relationship and have work done. I would say Hard Pass. He's a very established automotive shop probably does a good job and it looks like he has a large client list and literally has things booked out a year and a half. If an owner doesn't have five minutes to break away for a quick meet and greet that was planned. I can only imagine what the whole service experience would be like and it's one that I'm not interested in. An unfortunate experience but was kind of expected, trying to find a good reliable mechanic capable of doing the work I was looking to do and also having the time to take me on as a new client. If anyone has any other references for other shops like Billy's I would appreciate any references

The previous independent shop I've been going to for years has started lying to me about necessary repairs and charging mind-boggling high prices. They charged me $375 for false diagnostics and gave me an estimate for $2000 of unneccesary repairs. They also tried to delay warranty work in order to run out the time remaining on my NAPA warranty. I called Brakes and More who gladly honored the NAPA warranty. Brakes and More was significantly cheaper on labor. All work was done properly and professionally. Brakes and More did no upselling. They were completely honest. They did the work exactly as I requested with no additional costs. Turn-around time was same-day fast. Brakes and More doesn't have a fancy building or customer lounge. They have honest management with integrity and turn out high quality professional work at very, very reasonable pricing. I highly recommend Brakes and More.

They looked up the price and it would cost $169. Before they purchased it from the dealership, they asked if we approved of that cost. We said ok based on that price. When we got finalized invoice the part that they said was $169 was being charged to us for $273. That is an approx 61% markup. Which is outside of a reasonable range, and was not communicated when we were ordering the part. It took 1 hour and 5 minutes to replace the motor and cost $169.99 for labor. Total invoice was $460. This is over the average cost I researched online by $100. Not sure this is a reasonable place to get your car repaired. Make sure you document the prices you discuss. If you are too trusting, it will backfire.

The waiting room is nothing special, but you truly won't have to wait long. Estimates are typically free and fast. It was dropped off at 7:30am and was pleasantly surprised by a 11:30 pick-up call. Bill's quote for a starter RR was about $450, being a very good price as it would have been several hundred dollars more from a RV center and would be several weeks before they could get to it. The kicker being that it didn't need a starter after all, it was just a wire from starter to relay that need to be replaced, saving me hundreds of dollars more. I never ever walk away feeling like I've been in any way bamboozled, quoted for services I didn't need, or anything close to that. The other great thing is that since my car is a Hyundai hybrid (and one of my kids has an old old BMW) if there are things that 4th Street knows are specific to our makes and models that is not their area of expertise, they'll tell me that as well so I can take the cars to the dealership or BMW-specific repair places. I'd figured any tire shop would be willing to do a swap - but I called and was told 'I don't mess with that kind of stuff'. How does a tire company not 'mess with' TPMS sensors? I guess it's on to a chain - Discount Tire was willing to do it today (same price as their normal mount and balance; which is reasonable); but I was hoping to work with a local business.

Midas in Waterford said they'd assess it for free and we could go from there. Way warmer tone. Way better customer service. Stay away from EJ Tires & Auto Center. They've lost what made them special. The new guy deals with the price of the jobs while seemingly knowing little to nothing about what he's actually talking about.
