I originally hadn't planned to leave a review, but since John followed up, I've taken the time to reflect. The Great: Meir is a hard worker, punctual, and efficient. He kept the work area clean, helped with heavy deliveries, and his tilework is outstanding. Despite some waste, the fireplace border turned out beautifully with a seamless design. The Gripes: The project included painting my entire unit (1400sq ft), tiling, doorknob changes, and light fixture installations. While Meir's tilework was flawless, some tasks lacked attention to detail. When Meir quoted the project, he mentioned that only one coat of paint with primer would be included because two coats would be a lot of work. Admittedly, that was a bit of a turn off to me, because two coats is standard in the industry (even with primer). However, I knew that my paint color would be lighter than what was currently on the walls and would require at least two coats anyway, so no harm no foul. I used tester paint on many of my walls (which I do recommend, but with caution). Once painted, the ridges of the sections of tester paint were still visible. I requested an extra coat in those areas, but they should've been sanded first, so that the ridges are not at all visible. You're still able to see the outlines in some areas, but for the ones that are obvious, I've covered them with wall art. Four windows were painted shut. Outlet covers weren't removed before painting, causing nicks on the walls when I changed them. I've noticed flat paint on some walls, when I ONLY requested Eggshell. A ceiling fan was installed with too short a down rod, and a lock didn't function properly. These issues should've been caught. The Great Gripe: Initially quoted $7500, I chose another contractor due to cost, but Meir offered to match with a $4000 quote + supplies. However, supplies ended up costing nearly $1200, bringing the total to over $5100. I've painted a property myself of the same sq footage, so I know that I could've paid for the materials for the entire project for far less than $1200. I was also surprised to see that included in the supplies was tools for the tile work. Given that this is work that he does often I didn't expect to also have to pay for tools for the job. Additionally, I was taken aback when I looked for the tools and realized that though I had paid for them, they had not been left behind. I did ask for them and MK returned them (or something). When I went through the paint cans that were remaining there were several half-used gallon cans and unopened quarts. There was also paint in sheens that I had not requested, adding to my frustration. In conclusion, while I appreciated the tilework, the pricing wasn't transparent, and I felt misled by the overall costs. I wouldn't trust any 'discounts' offered, as MK will only find a way to recoup the additional money. I wouldn't recommend MK unless you can agree on a firm price and provide your own materials. I won't be returning for future projects. read more

I contacted John on Monday afternoon and he responded quickly, and came out on Tuesday morning to identify and fix leaks coming from one window. He found that the main window of concern was not sealed. He checked two other suspicious windows, and found the same problem.
