They were up front about their pricing and the options they had, scheduling was seamless, and the technician that came out was so helpful and informative. Quick visit, excellent service, kinda spendy: Furnace went down overnight so I called and set up an appointment at 8 am. The tech, Cody, made it to my place at about 11:30. He was polite, professional, and wore PPE, which I appreciated considering the covid situation. In about 5 minutes he had diagnosed my furnace with a problem high limit switch (I guess these are very finicky on Bryant/Carrier units). The switch was removed, cleaned, and reinstalled, which restored proper furnace function. I could have called Lozier to have someone walk me through doing this myself but didn't feel like messing around with it. The whole visit took about 15 minutes total and cost me $111. Seems kind of steep to me. $89 for a 5 minute diagnostic and and extra $22 for the 5 minute repair. I know the techs don't set the prices, just glad it wasn't something serious. Don't get me wrong, the service was great. Cody was fast, efficient, and knowledgeable. He even gave me some great advice on things to check in the future, and about the calcium buildup on my filter from our ultrasonic humidifier. Guess you just pay for premium service.... Maybe Lozier could rope the repair cost into the "diagnostic fee" if it takes the tech less than 15 minutes to do. Just a suggestion. read more

I call to set up an appointment and get it scheduled 2 or 3 weeks out, then comes appointment day and they call to say they're tied up working on "outage problems", etc. then try to reschedule me another week or 2 out. They have been in business for a lot of years, but as companies are managed by later generations, sometimes their customer service is less than adequate! They are less responsive to customer complaints and don't really care as much about the customer. They develop the "We don't need you...you need us" kind of mentality. It's unfortunate but that's the nature of multi generational companies. HVAC in Des Moines is very highly competitive and many companies are great at taking care of your needs.. Be mindful of companies that will try and take advantage of you! The companies that show up to your door and tell you your filters are dirty, and you need all these new parts that they make hundreds on their markup and labor.. I bought a top of the line furnace and air units from them 4 years ago. Almost 2 years ago I reported an issue with the unit throwing error codes. Even though it was under warranty they refused to work on it, unless I paid them some money for their work, almost $800 later it still isn't working and they refuse to refund my money. 2 years after I reported this, loziers wont talk to me and Lennox corporate still hasn't fixed it. Buyer beware - shop around as they definitely price gouge. Very disappointed in the cost of service and my overall experience with Lenox Heat pumps. I have 2 the same units and one of them has been a lemon since installation. It took Lozier 6 service calls to my house to keep it running in the first year of ownership. They tried to bill me for replacing the thermostat wire that shorted and come to find out they didn't replace it when it was quoted and installed 4 months prior - but that's another story... Dec 30th had a no-heat condition of my Lennox heat pump that I bought from Lozier and had them install 1 1/2 years prior. Called service, they sent Royce out to investigate - he was at my house for 25 mins, agreed system wasn't working, checked Freon in the unit, none present. He said he couldn't check for a leak and they would have to send someone else out at a later date. Billed $134.52 Called in the following week to see if when the leak would be investigated. Sent Royce back out 1 week later, onsite no more than 30 mins. I had a meeting I had to attend so my wife had to deal with Royce who was rather pushy this time and demanded my wife pay him before he left. That bill was $443.03. So recap - $577.55 with less than 1 hr. on-site spent so far total. I fully understand that I'm paying for skilled labor, however - I get to pay for diagnostic change twice? Also, the leak was in the basically new condenser roughly 6 inches from where the hoses had to be hooked up. Needless to say, it took all of about 5 mins to find the leak. I had to call in again to see if it was going to be covered under the warranty. I was also aware that only parts are covered by Lennox after a year. Well, because it's a pipe that cracked open, there's not really a failed component, so no warranty. Total to repair - $1559.80. And of course, this is on the quote: *** Customer is aware that the refrigerant may leak back out if a leak search/repair is not performed. Here's one more thing that upsets me which is the price gouging - As of today, 2/8/23 a 25lb of R410 freon on eBay is $525, which is very high for freon and has gone up drastically over the last year. That's $21 an lb. Here is what was on my quote and likely has gone up as the quote was only good for 30 days - Unit Low On Refrigerant. Added Nine Pounds R410a $1,265.00 (1st Pound $140.00 Each Additional Pound $125.00) Math on that is a 500% markup. If they are buying for more than what I saw on eBay then they are incompetent. If they are buying for that price or less then they are price gouging us consumers. I can see maybe a 50% markup, but 500%, I mean come on. read more

Giving Lozier a 1 is almost too kind. My mother, a Polish emigre in her 90s and a homeowner in Des Moines and West Des Moines since before I was born (i.e., sometime during the Eisenhower presidency), had used Lozier for decades for her biannual spring and fall checkups--and was scammed practically every time. And this was for a mid-range Rheem unit that Lozier had installed! You would think that at some point a serviceperson would have bothered to explain to her what he did at each service call, or at least leave some instructions on working her digital thermostat. LIke many of the living dead, she was born in an era of vacuum tubes and needed explicit insturctions for operating anything more modern. She was paying him and Lozier after all. People like us keep these crooks in business. No, she's old and hard of hearing and English is not her native language. We'll just charge $250 or more to replace some batteries in the digital thermostat and change the filters. I put a stop to this after witnessing it once. She didn't need to pay for Lozier's crap or put up with it. Of course, after years of customer disservce from Lozier (false rhyme with sleazier), my mom's 1998-vintage Rheem a/c and heating unit was beginning to wear out. By 2017, she was past 90 and hardly in a position to replace it. I called Highland Park Heating and Air Conditioning, and their representative came out and immediately fixed a problem with the furnace automatic pilot. Lozier would have had her wait three weeks for an appointment and then try to scam the old woman for a brand-new furnace--in a house that was destined to be sold in a few months once she was disabled enough to be in assisted living or worse, which did eventually happen. Funny, Lozier should have caught the automatic pilot problem for $250 or more for each bogus service call. Highland Park Heating and Cooling relocated and referred me to Best Heating and Cooling, who continued to provide a level of economical and reliable service that Lozier never had offerred. Had my sister and I not arranged to have the house sold in the fall of 2019, I would still be using Best. I can just hear that little twit operator at Lozier even as I write this review now--that Lozier is not responsible for the age of the house and its ducts, or the unit (my mom had a unit from the late '90s; it's not as if her house had some antediluvian thing from the '50s, 60s or 70s, which is the case with many Des Moines-area houses.) Nor was Lozier responsible for their serviceperson being unable to explain the services he provided because Mom was so old, hard of hearing, and spoke English with a distinct accent. By the standards of her former employer, Wells Fargo, she spoke and wrote English--as her FIFTH foreign language--well enough to handle correspondence regarding various international loan agreements involving agricultural businesses and commidities. We had questions re: the reliability of our AC and their solution was to fill it with refrigerant and then come back and perform a leak check, without checking to see if we were low on refrigerant prior to the check. I've heard that referred to as the "idiot treatment." In my opinion, their prices are not competitive and in our case, it seemed like they designed their services in order to return to our house (regardless of whether there was a problem) and bill us for a diagnostic. We live in a condo. Someone else in the condo had them come to service their rooftop ac. The repairman ran the water hose up to the roof, and allowed the hose to frequently bang loudly on our bedroom window. The dog barked loudly. My husband who is on hospice was sleeping in that room. The repairman then dropped the long hose down off the roof, allowing it to again banf on our window to next to my car. I went out to talk to the repairman who was very rude and told me he had work to do and didn't work for me. I called the company to file a complaint. All managers were busy. I sent these guys an email asking how much it would cost to replace a coil in a unit they installed,.. I have my own r22, and they could use that to top off my system when the new coil goes in because I didn't want to pay the $200 or $300 a pound they want for r22, so all I needed was a coil replaced,.. I get the following reply back from them: . We are a full service HVAC company and only use/install products we sell. Thanks for checking. The Lozier Team So much for helping the customer because we want to charge you what we can to stuff our wallet.. I will make sure to remove the sticker from my unit. Update- resolved. The brand new leaking furnace was replaced after nearly one year. I had to follow up weekly for months to get it resolved, but in the end we got our faulty furnace replaced and now have a properly working furnace. I understand it was a factory default which caused the problem and not caused by Lozier. However, the resolution on Lozier's end took way too long and was treated as a nuisance rather than something they were eager/readily willing to resolve. In fact, I had to be firm to get a replacement in order to get it fixed, as it was still under warranty- (barely under warranty by then, time was running out after waiting so long for a response). The leak had caused rust throughout and I was told this would not effect the furnace... I did not want a brand new furnace covered in rust waiting to corrode and have further problems, so they finally agreed and it was finally replaced. I opted for their extended service plan and it has been fine and no furnace problems since. ***Problem after problem from day one. Purchased a new furnace and air conditioning unit about 9 months ago. We were told there was a rebate program with our purchase, totaling over $2000 which was a deciding factor for our purchase. Unfortunately, only after several calls and emails over 3 months did we finally get our rebate. Next, our brand new furnace was installed incorrectly and has been damaged and it has been 2 months trying to get it fixed- and same run around scenario. Still not resolved! I have had to call them weekly since we purchased and pry any help out of them. HUGE hassle! For the price (higher than other quotes by $4000-$5000) I expected better professional, competent service. I would say stay clear of Lozier. They installed a new furnace for my mom in 2014. In March of 2017 they had to replace the condensate pump ...which of course was not covered under the warranty. Then in February of 2019. They had to come back out due to the same condensate pump going out... however, this time is was still covered under the manufacturer warranty. So you would think the only charges she would incur would be the service fee and labor to install the warrantied part. OHHHHHH NO! The service tech called the office to let them know of his findings and all my Mom could hear was him yelling into the phone saying "SHE DOESNT HAVE ANY MONEY". Then he told my mom that the office asked him "Well you want to get paid this week don't you". So off goes the tech to pick up the condensate part which took one phone call & a drive to West Des Moines to pick it up. Once he was back with the part. He then proceeded to convince my mom that she needed a new thermostat or her furnace would not operate....ummm, hello..... It's been operating with the same thermostat since the new furnace was put in. However, my mom feeling pressured and without proper notice of how much they were going to charge for this.. allowed him to put it in. Once my mom finally received the invoice for all work. They had charged: $79.00 for the service call, $75.00 labor to install the pump. $200.00 for the thermostat. & $300.00 for "non-specific minor repair" which was essentially the tracking down and getting the pump and necessary materials for the warrantied replacement. When I called Lozier to go over the itemized invoice that I had to request.. I told them that my mom was not aware of the extreme cost of the unnecessary thermostat and that she would never had agreed to it had she known as she is on a very strict fixed budget. I also made him aware that I had NEVER heard of a company charging a customer for making a phone call to get a part. I mean. Isn't that there job?? Called them to fix my leaking water heater. The tech came out and informed me that it would cost $1100 to replace, which I knew was ridiculously high. He said the high price had something to do with "new regulations" and said if I compared with other companies that they would all charge about the same. I paid the $70 service fee it cost for him to come out, and told him I knew they were way overcharging. Well, I did compare like he suggested, and got my new water heater bought and installed the same day for around $500 by Herr Plumbing - they did a great job. I will never use Lozier again. They know a water heater is kind of a necessity, and they try to pressure you into spending a fortune to get it replaced. Shop around, you can get a MUCH better deal elsewhere. read more

My furnace stopped working the end of September. A friend referred me to Lozier so I called them and requested an inspection. I called them the morning of October 1st and was told they couldn't see me the same day unless I paid their overtime rate. I made an appointment for the next day October 2nd. I came home from work early that afternoon and was present while Brian B. from Lozier inspected my furnace. After about 20/30 minutes he diagnosed the problem as a "bad gas valve". The part price for the new valve was $487.48, with a total repair price of $600.63. I trusted this was the appropriate repair and authorized him to do it. He left to get the part, came back about 40 minutes later and made the repair that afternoon. He had me pay on the spot before he left. I never received an invoice. Two days later my furnace went out again. Luckily it wasn't cold enough to need my furnace for about a week. I called Lozier on October 10th assuming they would come inspect free of charge. They made me an appointment for the next day. I was still charged a diagnostic fee of $58. Brian B. found the problem to be the thermostat and said it "shorted out the transformer". He offered to sell me a $150 thermostat or I could go buy my own from a hardware store. He installed the transformer and my final bill was $207.63. So I went and bought a new thermostat for $60 and installed it myself. Still furnace did not work. All the while the thermostat did register the temperature in my house and it was 50 degrees. Frustrated I called a friend asking for help and he found a guy he knew to come look at it. It took the guy a couple hours but he figured out it was the wiring. He confirmed it was not the gas valve and it was not the thermostat and it was not the transformer. We actually put my old thermostat back on and it is still working to this day! I returned the thermostat I bought and at least got my $60 back. I wasted $800 for service that was unnecessary, on a company I thought I could trust. I don't know if this is just a reflection of Brian's workmanship or of Lozier as a whole but I know I will never be using their company again. read more

A Midwest storm damaged my ac unit on May 17. On May 18, I called a different local company who couldn't help me until May 24th. I hired them to repair my damaged unit, and they told me they had to order a part and that they would call me to schedule an appointment when the part arrived. I called twice a week for two weeks asking when the part would be delivered and was told "we don't know" each time. I told the company I was frustrated and they told me that because the unit was so old, the part had to be ordered from the manufacturer and that it always takes a very long time to get that part. I told the company that, had that information been relayed to be in the beginning, I would've purchased a new unit rather than wait a month in the 90+ degree heat for a part to arrive. On June 12, we finally called Lozier, who installed a new unit three days later. Lozier was courteous, professional, clean, and quick. Very satisfied with their service. read more

Lozier's was hired to fix a gas leak detected by a home inspection. On the first trip, the tech changed a fitting in a totally different location and left the original leak untouched. On complaint, John (one of the bosses) agreed to send the tech out again, at no charge, to correct his work. Unfortunately, that was the first 90 degree day of the season, and the tech was pulled off the job before he completed the needed work. (Servicing air conditioners must be more profitable.) The tech simply left with the gas shut off. On complaint, John said he would send the tech back but now I would need to pay for the work. After considerable hesitancy I agreed to this and a time and date was set. The time for the appointment came and the tech never showed up. Several phone calls failed to get any explanation, only that John had called the job off. I specifically asked John to call me which he has never done. I called a different plumber who came and finished everything within half an hour at a very reasonable charge. Lozier's has lost any trust I had in them. If yelp allowed me give them zero stars I would still consider that to be too high a rating. read more
