This is one of those northshore sleazoid businesses you really need to stay away from due to lack of skill or professionalism. My family's been using them and it's been progressively worse to the point I had to get the IL Attorney General's office and the BBB involved. Whether it's HVAC maintainence or roofing they've been nothing but trouble and downright abusive. Most recently they put $3000 on an elderly family member's credit card for a routine A/C check with no parts or repairs, then said he could get the money back if he bought a whole new system from them. (A/C checks are about $100 national avg.) Prior to that they misdiagnosed a furnace part (draft inducer) as having high amps and about to fail at any time, recommended a new furnace. The furnace and draft inducer have been fine 14 years since they said that. Before that they did a sloppy roof job by actually nailing shingles over the old shingles, much easier for an unskilled roofer except that the old shingles start rotting between the new shingles and the membrane. Please find a more reputable company like Cahill, etc. for furnace or a/c maintenance and anyone else for roof work. read more

LR Gregory sent a technician to my home, who got my A/C working the same day! Unfortunately, the entire HVAC system shut off the next morning. We called back & left a message asking them to return and help us out. I imagine they were busy on that day as it was 84 degrees, it's been a week without any follow up. After returning from a long day at work (to be followed by another early morning), I was able to solve the problem! It turns out the work was left un-finished, and the HVAC would not function due to some electrical tape. I'm not an expert, but may I politely suggest using better quality tape next time, or putting the MF'ing furnace back together. Thankfully, I was able to complete the job late the same night by removing the electrical tape placed over the safety switch, and then used a screwdriver to reassemble the cover, which then closes the safety switch. Still haven't heard back from my 2nd follow-up call and the photos I'd provided. In reviewing the bill I see I only paid for a diagnostic and the materials, but I think they should make it explicit if the customer is expected to help out with labor. Maybe shop around? read more

Gregory put a new roof on my house in 2009. Baby tins were necessary to put in under the roof shingles where the roof meets the cedar siding. His men did not put these tins in. I was unaware of this. A few years later I had to replace the cedar siding on the house and I called Gregory to put in the baby's tins. His man just sat there and did not do anything. My contractor had to replace the baby tins. I also had a semi flat part of the roof which Gregory did not fix properly. I had to have another roofer fix that area. Gregory did not vent the attic properly. I had to have that fixed also. After finishing my roof, Gregory made a house call to collect a check from me. He did not trust me to mail it to him. Run away from this contractor. I have since found 2 excellent roofing contractors: Estruscan and Cedar roofing contractors. read more

I try not to be negative, but I need to share a very dissapointing experience with LR Gregory and Son. They were called out to assess our flat roof in Lake Forest. Not only did they quote projects that were not needed, their estimates for potential projects came in at 3-4x what others quoted. In total they estimated that we needed $30,000 for work that we were told from two competitors that could be done for $3,000-$8,000. I cannot speak to the quality of their work because I did not use them for obvious reasons, but I would SERIOUSLY recommend getting additional quotes before you go with this company. read more

The staff at LR Gregory from the office, to the guys in the field, to the owner, gave the problem their full attention and did not give up until the problem was resolved. They even monitored the situation while we were out of town - with a key to our house. They are honest, trustworthy, friendly, and care about the work they do.
