I love coming here! The experience alone is unique and usually somewhere I always take my guests. The staff are prompt and friendly as they come around with the various dishes. Good grief. It's like we're doing the lady in the front a disservice by dining here. Came at opening time at 11am and we had 10 people. The restaurant was empty. The lady refused to give away any of the large tables (maybe one or two tables were reserved), but we literally had to beg for a larger table in an empty restaurant. The one that she said was reserved was all of a sudden available. Then, somebody in my party asked for a small dish to put sauces. She literally scoffed at him and never gave him a small dish/bowl. We ordered congee, and needed small bowls so individuals can scoop their own portions. Never got small bowls. We ending up pouring congee in our empty tea cups. Fckin ridiculous lol. We ordered 3 Pepsis - we eventually received 3 cans, and then that lady showed up way later with 3 additional glasses of poured soda, looked at us, and scoffed at us for having already been given 3 sodas by somebody else. It's not even like we ordered sodas twice. I wish I had spoken Chinese from the getgo and that I had sat at the outside area of the table so as to quell some of the absolute trash service by her to my English-speaking friends at my table. If I were with less chill friends or god forbid family, I would've given her a mouthful. She really shouldn't be working in this industry. It was just her, every other staff member was polite and efficient. Now, I can take a little abuse if the food is spectacular. In fact, sometimes it's a rite of passage at some Asian restaurants. But the dim sum here is not even close to being even "good". It's just average for even St. Louis (which is at best very mediocre) and it certainly wasn't cheap - $30 per person. My family and I just had dinner here tonight. We were sick over Xmas so this was our makeup dinner. We love Peking duck so this place has it and boy was it good! The skin was perfectly crispy and the meat was tender and we loved having it with the steamed buns they served it with. We had the beef and eggplant, lo mein noodles, combo fried rice and hot and sour soup. Everything was spectacular! I just have two observations to share. One, the food came out all at the same time. It would have been nice to have the soup and the duck first then the rest. Speaking of the soup, that's my second, it was lukewarm at best so that was a bit disappointing. We ended up taking it home. We will have it for lunch. The service was welcoming and efficient. I loved the tables and chairs. I'm happy to have found a place with great Peking duck. We will be back. I've only eaten here for dim sum on the weekends, and I highly recommend it. It can get crowded, but we've always been seated promptly. Everything we've tried is authentic and delicious. The shumai and shrimp dumplings are particularly good. The only real downside is the cashier. She is extremely unpleasant and always acts like you're troubling her. Pork siu mai - mushy, slimy, lukewarm. a bit big. not a crisp bite or taste. Chicken feet - sweet, especially cold, gooey. i'm used to it being more savory and less artificially colored. Black bean spare rib - mushy, bland. for a dish seasoned with black bean, there's oddly no black bean flavor imparted. skimpy. Peking duck - really fluffy buns and adequate duck (crisp and meaty!) to fill them. the best dish i got! I don't recommend the dim sum. It also comes warm or cold, and I know that dim sum doesn't cool down that quickly on my speedy trip home. The peking duck was worth it though. Since there is really no Chinese food in West County other than very dumbed down and gringoized food, we tend to go to Lu Lu Seafood most often. The menu is daunting but you should be able to find the things you want. If you are a Sweet and Sour Pork person you can go about anywhere. Our most recent visit was the result of a Groupon. I was glad Ms T bought it because I had been wanting to go back. We had Salt & Pepper Calamari, Wontons in Chili Sauce and Beef with Chinese Broccoli. All were enjoyable although we remembered the Salt & Pepper Calamari as being better than they were this time. They were not fried quite enough, were under-seasoned and were missing the green chile that we remembered. I still like the Wontons in chili sauce and half of the large serving came home with me. I enjoyed one on the side of my next four dinners. I used to order dumplings this way but somehow could not see them on the vast menu. I need to ask for them next time. We ordered the Beef and Chinese Broccoli at Ms T's request, because we only needed one entre and that means no spicy heat. I thought it was fine, although I added sauce from the Wontons to spice it up. She felt it was "snotty" in the way it was thickened. Live by the corn starch, die by the cornstarch, I say. Contrary to the reviews that I have read about Lu Lu seafood, the food was actually not as salty as I expected. The quality was good but not mind blowing. I think the taste is very standard compared to other Chinese restaurants. I prefer Corner 17 a little better than Lu Lu. The environment and decorations are very nice and cozy. I went out on a Friday night and didn't experience any wait. I think the price is a little bit pricey compared other Chinese restaurants and I guess it's justified with the seatings and the up-scale Chinese decorations. A delicious dim sum which gave me an opportunity to try several unfamiliar dishes. I made the announcement for all vegetarian & seafood options ONLY upon arrival since I didn't have a helper with me to identify the food choices. The cart came by regularly with the ladies offering & suggesting vegetables, seafood and carbs in the form of irresistible dessert. I appreciated their attentiveness. It warmed my heart that they actually took note to my request. Whenever I pointed to a meat item I got, "No no no...that has meat, try this one." Sooooo....I tried pineapple bread, egg custard bun, broccoli, noodles, seafood dumplings and tofu & mushrooms. After a bite of this & a bite of that I was full as a tick in under 10 minutes. My eyes where much bigger than my tummy. However, I was offered take-out boxes to finish things at home. Lu Lu's is clearly Asian. The decor screams at you from the Main Street and when you walk inside it pulls you right in. From the fish tank, drapery, hanging lanterns, table clothes and artwork, Lu Lu creates an authentic experience. I love Dim Sum and I always enjoy coming to this restaurant on a Sunday for Brunch. Lulu's used to be the place for Dim Sum but lately the quality of the food has been going down a bit. Last Sunday I decided to take my wife there for Dim Sum/Chinese Style Brunch. As always the Restaurant was packed but since we got there early enough, we were seated quickly. My wife and I ordered Bok Choy, sticky rice, Calamari, Green Beans, Crispy Shrimp Rolls, Fried Dumplings, Beef Short Ribs. Overall the food was not as expected. The Bok Choy did not taste fresh. The Sticky Rice was just Mehhh The Calamari was a bit gooey very lightly fried. My favorite thing was the Green Beans, it was very well done, garlic infused and it tasted really good. The crispy shrimp rolls were also really good. The atmosphere was awesome, families sitting together enjoy a good moment all around my wife and I. The restaurant gets a 3.5 for cleanliness, I feel there are too much stuff around the cashier section area. Too much Clutter. I also did not check the bathroom so I cannot comment on that. On of my biggest issue with the restaurant is the fact that you have no idea what you are paying for as everything is written in Chinese/Mandarin on your bill. You are totally at the mercy of what they tell you your cost is. In the spirit of respect for other cultures, I accept it but for someone like me who is used to a level of transparency when at a Restaurant I am a bit uneasy with it, that's just me though. Price is a bit on the expensive side, it's over priced in my opinion. I've been coming here for special occasions since I was in elementary school and the food has definitely gotten worse throughout the past few years. It used to be a phenomenal and authentic dim sum experience, but it has gradually lost its former quality and has simultaneously become more and more Americanized. I was very disappointed with our experience with Dim Sum brunch. Many of the servers pushing carts did not even bother to stop by our table. Also, some of the Dim Sum items that a lot of restaurants normally offer was not available at Lu Lu. Shanghai dumplings, also known as Xiao Long Bao was not on any of the carts and we had to order it separately. There was no Soybean milk or the Chinese doughnuts available. This Is THE Place to go for delicious dim sums in St. Louis. I personally love their cart service on Saturdays-they have a really really good variety. They even had a vegetarian one that my mom was able to eat. They come out smoking hot, and full of flavor. It's definitely worth the price and more so as I went with a Groupon. Also, this is one of the few cart service places that comes out with a trolley full of dessert. We did also go on a separate day to try their a la carte menu which was good but the dishes were super oily. Their tea is lovely too. We enjoyed a huge amount of food, all freshly cooked and each person shared their dish with the group. I ordered a hot plate with shrimp and veggies and scallops. It was very good but I could not stop eating their fried fish plate. I am 60 yrs old and this is THE BEST FRIED FISH I've had EVER! Not a trace of grease. Just a beautiful white coating seasoned to perfection. The downsides of the restaurant are not dealbreakers but need some work...they brought out two large bowls of soup with dumplings which no one remembers ordering so we assumed it was complimentary. It wasn't. Delicious but they charged us $23 for it. Be sure to ask if they bring it out. They also told us they only had eight menus for the WHOLE restaurant so our table of 7 had to share 3. Not sure if he was pulling our leg but I can't imagine how you would handle the dinner rush with only 8 menus. Maybe they just didn't want to wash them off? Either way, very unprofessional. Also we were one of only 3-4 tables with people in the whole place but only got an occasional refill on water and some glasses got ice and some did not. They have a huge selection of food and some decent dishes and some fantastic dishes. If it were me, I'd cut out some of the options and focus more on just the top dishes so hopefully they could make enough profit to invest in a few more menus or at least put up a specials board on the wall. You'll find large Chinese grocery stores, seafood markets, and restaurants... Lu Lu Seafood is one of many establishments you'll find there. From the outside, the venue is gloomy and drab. The windows are grimy and the entire face of the restaurant could use a pick me up. I wish I could say that interior boasted a different look, but it was just as outdated and in serious need of a face lift. Service was terrible. Servers were rude and gave the impression that they didn't want to be there working. We had to approach the servers to get our drinks refilled as they ignored us during our entire stay. Does your table need more rice? Good luck! It took us about 15 minutes to grab the attention of one of the pissed off servers. Food was overpriced and tasted worse than the take out place down the street from my house. Everything tasted the same... like they were all cooked in old oil and dated sauces. I expected authenticity, but overall this is great addition to American Chinese Cuisine when one is craving Chinese food. It had American dishes with a little authenticity. Perfect for those not use to the traditional Chinese cuisine but wanting a relaxing atmosphere and decent food. While the menu is huge, you can find dishes for most everyone. We tried the Beef with Chinese Broccoli, which was O.K., but didn't match up to other restaurants or what I make at home. The other dish we had were the Pork Meatballs. They were moist, flavorful, but still lacked a WOW! factor. As an appetizer, we choose one of the best options: Shrimp and Pork Wontons in a spicy chili sauce. So there are 2 ratings: 3.5 for Dim Sum and a solid 4 for Dinner This is not the best Dim Sum place - but it's relatively busy on the weekends and solid. It's pretty friendly to people that have never had Dim Sum (Chinese tapas) - b/c they have pictures of everything and pushy carts. But on to the main reason why they get 4 stars: 1) Cantonese Style Honey Walnut Shrimp. That's all you need to know. This is called some Jumpo Shrimp with Walnut/Broccoli. But this is a Fried Shrimp with a Mayo-Based/Candied Walnut dish. It's sounds a little odd, but delicious and hard to make at home. 2) Generous Portions. I got a General Gao's Chicken (my Chinese friends will be in dismay) - but it was delicious and plenty to share. 3) Prices are very reasonable at night from $10-$15 delicious to share. Next Time, I'm coming for the Seafood Bird's Nest. It's not a real bird's Nest, but it's just made to look like one filled with Scallop, Calamari, and Shrimp! Things to Note: 1) No Heineken. The dim sum here is super good!! I love the shrimp dumplings and scallion pancakes especially. The service is pretty good and they all speak Mandarin to me, which I love. Food was good. The place itself does feel dingy and dated. We ordered the pot stickers- they were very crispy around the edges and tough to bite into. These came out right away. We also ordered the shumai- they were very tasty, but they were not served until after our main course was served. Expect about a 20 minute wait on the shumai. For my main course, I ordered the seafood hot plate. The add the sizzling hot seafood to the hot plate table-side. Very cool presentation. The service was slow. I felt that since our table was one of the only non-Asian tables that we were given slower service. We had to ask for our check/boxes when we had clearly been finished eating for about 5 minutes. Our server proceeded to clear other tables and box other people's food for another 5 minutes. Another man approached to clear our table and we asked for a box again. You need strategy for Dim Sum. I went there with my friend for lunch around 1:00 pm on Saturday and ordered Dim Sum. They have several food wagons for dumplings, meet, vegetables, desserts, and so on, and you can take food on plates from each wagon that you like. Therefore, you cannot eat varieties of food if you get too much food from the first wagon. Please be careful !! :D Unfortunately, we went there around 1:00 pm, there are less kinds of food rest than usual, and food was getting a little cold. I think that you had better go there earlier. The cost depends on sizes of plates, and the sizes are obscure and not clear, so I recommend you to confirm which size the plate is before you take food from wagons. I enjoyed Dim Sum.
