Combination salad with the best salad dressing
    Jessica H.

I hadn't been to Ami's in years. It was a staple for dinner with my grandparents when I was younger, but living in Imperial now it just fell off my radar. We met my daughter her for dinner on a Friday evening. I made sure we could meet early because I know it isn't the largest place and gets busy. I knew going what we were ordering- combination salad with their house dressing, baked spaghetti with meatballs, and a thin crust pizza. The food was fantastic! The salad is basic but the dressing is the star. It is unlike anything else and so good. The anchovy base may scare some but it is not fishy. It is a must try!! The spaghetti and pizza were just as I remembered. The pizza crust is the thinnest ever with a great texture and crunch. Toppings are a great amount without overpowering the cheese and sauce. The spaghetti brought me back to Shari g it with my grandma often. A great tomato sauce that you can tell spends time cooking, great meatballs, and the provel over the top can't be beat. Ami's is no longer off my radar and we will be back- often!

I love there bucket of salad! Love love love. Their house creamy Italian is really good. I have been here twice. And the pizza is yummy. Thought the last time I went I ordered thin and got hand tossed but no big deal. I ate it and it was good too. I'll be back. I like it.

My pizza and salad were ready at the time given for my online order! Last time I ordered online it took much longer so I was thankful for that. I ordered NY style or hand tossed with mozzarella only. I didn't receive that. This is a mix of provel which I hate and mozzarella cheese. No cheese pull, no flavor. I started ordering from them after Talanyas closed in the city and had been a great alternative until now.

The one star is for the tall, dark-haired server. He is strange, to say the least. The girls who work there are very friendly. I had ordered a deep dish pizza, which I know takes some time. I was dining solo, and I believe Mr. Strange/ weirdo intentionally gave it to a table of 6, part of whom had come in later. He rudely informed me that my pizza was delivered to the wrong table. He then told me it would take less than 20 minutes to cook me another, which came to me with a raw dough crust and semi warm tomatoes on the top.

Pizza and salad are both amazing, especially for this fan of the old Telaynas...one of my favorite STL style pizzas anywhere.

Parking was relatively convenient--street parking is available, and there's a nearby lot about a block away if needed. Upon arrival, the restaurant immediately gives off a refined, upscale atmosphere that feels well-suited for business dining or a special night out. Service was a standout. The dining room manager handled our group and was engaging, attentive, and polished throughout the evening. Service overall was excellent and well-paced. One logistical quirk worth noting: there is only one restroom on the dining room floor, with additional facilities located downstairs, which felt like a slightly odd setup for an otherwise thoughtfully designed space. As for the food, expectations were set extremely high by the enthusiastic and somewhat over-the-top menu descriptions--phrases along the lines of "the most amazing thing you'll ever taste." Unfortunately, while the food was good, it didn't quite live up to that level of hype. The calamari appetizer and Mayfair salad were both solid and enjoyable. The whole branzino was visually impressive, with the head and tail removed tableside, making for a nice presentation. I did encounter a bone, however, and the accompanying white bean side fell short of expectations--the beans weren't as creamy or flavorful as anticipated. Overall, Madrina delivers a very good dining experience, particularly in terms of service and atmosphere. While the food was good to okay rather than exceptional, it was still enjoyable. With a more measured approach to describing the menu, the experience might feel better aligned with what ultimately arrives at the table.

The octopus starter had great flavor and I would order it again but the toasted ravioli was incredibly bland which was surprising given the pancetta and fontina cheese inclusion. Everything else was also just ok. I didn't snag a picture of the tiramisu and I wish I did because it looks quite different than some of the older pictures shared on Yelp already. Texturally it was on the dryer side and kind of grainy. Also, do want to call out that it was very loud in the restaurant if that is important to you. Not just dinner noise from other guests, but the music was playing much too loudly for a dinner venue. There are some other menu items that sounded interesting, so we will give it another shot, but this visit fell a little flat for us.

If you've never tried toasted ravioli, you haven't lived. This is a great place to go to try it. I could eat it until I no longer fit in my pants! They really should have a plus sized clothing department right there in the store as some people are going to need it. Oh, and they have great pizza, too. You can try the St Louis style with provel (which I really like), but I'm pretty sure they have a mozzarella option, too. I've also tried their salads in the past and really enjoyed them. One day, maybe I'll get to try one of their Italian dishes. The place is a bit unusual in its look and structure. If you are going to get a table and eat, go in through the back door. There are some areas that look like smaller rooms, and then there was a larger room where we ate. It's all enjoyable, though. I also want to say that our waitress there was one of the most outstanding waitresses that I've ever seen. She was very friendly and helpful. It definitely added to the experience. There were other people there. The hostess and waitress were very hospitable. I ordered the lasagna with a side salad, and my wife ordered the chicken modiga. We heard the portions were big, and that is the truth. My serving of lasagna was about 4 inches square and about 3 inches tall. Multiple layers of pasta and meat and other yummy stuff. I ate about half and took the other half home. My wife's chicken modiga was also huge. She got two breaded chicken breasts and a pile of pasta. She ate about half of one chicken breast and brought the rest home. The chicken breast that she started eating was great. Nice breading. Nice lemony sauce. The next day we reheated our leftovers. We each got some lasagna, and we split the chicken breasts (I got the whole second one and she got the one she started on the night before). The lasagna tasted as good as the first time. This is what I noticed on the chicken breasts. The whole chicken breast tasted like it had a rubbery side to it. I suspect that particular chicken breast had freezer burn on the one side. The other chicken breast was perfect. I had my wife try my chicken breast and she agreed, kind of rubbery. I don't know if this is a one off thing or if this happens often. As I stated this was my first time there. That is why I am taking one star off for my review. Other than that chicken breast, everything was great! I will eat there again. I also remembered seeing it featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so we figured it had to be worth a try. When we arrived, we were asked if we had a reservation. We didn't, but noticed a few open seats at the bar and asked if we could sit there instead. The two bartenders welcomed us right away and told us they would take good care of us throughout the evening. My wife ordered an iced tea, and I started with an Old Fashioned. For an appetizer, we ordered the Toasted Ravioli ($14), which is handmade in-house and filled with ground beef, ricotta, and pecorino romano cheese, served with marinara sauce. It's one of the dishes featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. For dinner, my wife ordered the Chicken Marsala ($23), and I went with the Bolognese ($17), made with veal, pork, red wine gravy, cresta di gallo pasta, stracciatella, and Calabrian chili oil. The toasted ravioli arrived looking great. I tried one without the sauce first. The fresh pasta didn't fry up quite the way I expected. It was more flaky than crispy, and I was hoping for a little more crunch. The filling was decent but could have used a bit more seasoning and flavor. The marinara sauce also had a bitterness to it that wasn't my favorite. When our entrées arrived, both dishes looked and smelled wonderful. Unfortunately, the flavors didn't quite live up to the presentation. My wife's Chicken Marsala had good flavor overall, but the side pasta was very gummy, and the sauce again had a bitter note that seemed to overpower the dish. My Bolognese was the biggest disappointment of the evening. When I think of Bolognese or a rich meat ragù, I usually expect a wider pasta such as pappardelle. The cresta di gallo pasta wasn't my favorite choice for the dish, and it also had a gummy texture. The sauce itself suffered from the same bitterness that we noticed throughout the meal. Looking back, I probably should have ordered the Carbonara once I realized the Bolognese wasn't being served with the type of pasta I was hoping for. Overall, the meal was okay, but it didn't quite meet the expectations we had after seeing the restaurant featured on television and reading the reviews. The service was excellent, and the bartenders did a fantastic job taking care of us. While this visit was a bit disappointing, there were plenty of other dishes on the menu that looked great, and I would be willing to give Anthonino's another try and order something different.
