This was default choice as I was staying next door w/o transportation. I started out wrong, entering through "take-out" section after it was closed and then picking up my own takeout container thereby contaminating it. The staff were nice, some laughed while others scolded. The food was above avg for a cafeteria style setup. I'm sure it helps that I was actually starving, having travelled all day w/o eating. I got the baked chicken and stuffing with Mac and cheese and corn as my 2 sides; strwbry shcake for dessert and sweet tea; all for just under $20 with military discount. My very picky, health conscious brother was also able to find something he liked and he was complimentary too which is really saying something. I like that they had a wide variety of options, including chicken in like 4 different ways. Great that I was able to walk the shirt distance (110 deg heat), grab a plate and drink and be back in my room while everything was still warm. read more

Very disappointed in my experience tonight. Against my better judgment I used door dash to order my food. I ordered blackened chicken, mac n cheese, and mixed veggies. My boyfriend ordered blackened chicken, fried okra, and russet potatoes. We also ordered a side of yams, cucumber salad, and cornbread dressing. First, my boyfriend received a notification that the blackened chicken was out of stock so that item was automatically changed to chicken fried chicken (no ph call to ask if we still want the order and if so what would we like to exchange it for), on top of that, there was an UP CHARGE on the item THEY replaced FOR US. So after speaking w the manager who admitted that he thought the blackened chicken was out of stock so he selected the chicken fried steak said he made an error and they do still have the item.... At this point we should have cancelled, but we continued... Door dash delivers. Bags are unsealed, reeks of cigarette smoke, and contains all kind of items we didn't ask for. In one container there was salmon (which smelled terrible) and two sides of mac n cheese. The other container was blackened chicken w mac n cheese and green beans (not mixed veggies, no okra, no russet potatoes). They did send the yams and dressing along with 3 different pies (obviously because they were anticipating an unpleasant response). We call and they apologize, but refer us to door dash. No questions or concern about what went wrong, no offer of a discount, nothing. The worst!!! read more

Best location I have ever been! Staff is very friendly when I walked in. I like the fried fish with green beans and Mac cheese! I also like the service I always get from Eva. I was coming back from a doctor's appointment in the medical center and was craving Luby's for some odd reason. So I popped in and opted for the LuAnn special which comes with an entree, 2 sides, and a roll. Food looked decent from the team I has Luby's years ago. I got half of the chicken fried steak with brown gravy, steamed broccoli, spicy mac and cheese, and wheat roll. I was so excited to eat because it was almost 2pm and I was starving. The chicken fried steak was bland even though it was smothered in brown gravy. There was barely any meat, it was mostly batter. The broccoli was soft and mushy, I like to eat my veggies crispy. The spicy mac and cheese lack flavor. It needed some more salt and spices (duh, SPICY mac and cheese). Obviously I can see the cheese, but it didn't taste cheesy. The roll hard and wasn't soft on the inside like I was hoping for and butter did not help. Although I was starving, I threw away half of my meal. Now I remember I don't go to Luby's, food has no flavor and it's not very good. This location is fairly new, so it's very clean. read more

Today I stopped by during a downpour to grab some lunch and wait out the rain. The chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and fried okra really hit the spot since I was craving some comfort food on a rainy day. Good solid food, nothing fancy but very satisfying. I love their white gravy, it's just perfect in its consistency. At another Luby's it was watery and thin, but not here. During the meal, I was texting on my phone and didn't realize that my wallet fell out of my purse at some point. As I was walking out to the parking lot, a waitress chased me down and returned it to me. I was so surprised and relieved! Next time I go in, I gotta look for her and give her a big tip for that good deed. read more

They were very nice here....went on a Saturday before Monster Jam. My son wasn't hungry and only wanted some fruit but the guy said "kids eat free today, might as well get something...you can eat it if he doesn't". That was nice of him and we got my sons meal....which he ate all of lol. It looked like some older folks were playing spades in the back (about 20 people) and I like that Luby's lets them do that. They ran out of the special right in front of my eyes (did dinner time suprise you today??? what happened??), they didn't have any more roast beef (!!) and the chicken fried steak I was stuck with was dry. It's a lubys. I'm familiar with cafeteria food I think I like furrs better. I felt it was overpriced. I ordered a salad and then three small bowls of vegetables, a drink and my total was over $10. I asked If they had all u can eat or platters prices but nope. Seem u buy by the item. The food was ok, tasted like it came out of a can or package not a lot of flavor. The sunflower seeds tasted stale. The first thing i smell when i walked in was fish, yuk!! But i was able to get past that and place my order. The waitstaff was awesome! read more

Luby's is a Southern style restaurant with many options for all. The liver and onions is one of my favorites and you can't go wrong with the pecan pie and cheesecake. Others in our party enjoyed the fish. I gave them a three stars for the large amount of flies all over the food area. Very hard to enjoy anything. read more

I like to eat here and have never had a problem before. But this time was different. Got a pickled beets from the salad bar and a double chopped steak with Mac cheese and pinto beans and two rolls to go. Took it back to my hotel next door and that's when the fun begins. Started with the pickled beets, noticed they were warm instead of chilled. Ate a few then stopped because they didn't taste like pickled beets. Mac cheese and pinto beans were good. The chopped steaks had a very hard crust on them like they had been under the heat lamp all day. Tasted just ok though. The fun came later that night when I had an extreme pain in the gut. That was the beginning of an all nighter in the toilet. It comes down to either the beets or the steak was tainted. It Looks like I'll be a little pickier next time at Lubys on old Spanish trail instead of getting the usuals. read more

Luby's is your typical cafeteria with a nice selection of food. Nothing exceptional, just your standard fare leaning towards a lot of fried stuff. I had the baked salmon and the baked whitefish there and both were pretty tasty. The sides seemed pretty blah, I've tried the Spanish rice, the broccoli and green beans and nothing to write home about. Both times I was there they didn't seem to have enough staff, and service was slow. By the time you get to the table a lot of your food is cold. Overall, a nice place to go if you want variety and you are close to the Medical Center. They did have plenty of parking in their lot. read more

The last time I ate at Luby's was in 1999. I was so unimpressed that I had not been back...until today. I was recently told that for a period of time, they used pre-made, frozen entrées. (Basically your TV dinner.) That was from the late 90's to the mid 2000's. I was also told that I needed to revisit. He was absolutely right! From what I can tell (Let's just say I'm pretty knowledgable when it comes to food/food preparation) the veggies were fresh, and the main entrées were prepared in house. Loved this place!!! Yeah, it is simple comfort food, but what we had was excellent. The steak i had was thoroughly cooked, HUGE!!! The dish my wife had she really enjoyed too. And we're talking of going back before we leave houston! No complaints from us. The ordering process is different from anything we've experienced before, and you do feel pressured to be quick about ordering your food. I lied. there is only one thing i have to complain about. The music is too loud! so when one of the wait staff talk to you, you either have to ask them repeatedly to say it again, or you have to have super hearing, which i don't. The worst Luby's Ive ever been to! Im so disappointed! Mac and cheese is a signature dish for Luby's and they had the most gross mac and cheese! We had a party of four and all of us were so disappointed! I was told we should have gone to Pearland or Meyerland Luby's . Judge me: See if I care! I like chicken fried chicken and all the unhealty fixins, and I can get them at Luby's. I pretty much get the same thing every time: CFC, mashed potatoes with brown gravy (white is disgusting, honestly, not just here but IN GENERAL), mac and chz and some sweet tea. Healthy? No. Hearty? Yes. Does it make me happy? YES. Oh don't forget about the yeast roll at the end. The staff here are as sweet as can be. Stay away from this location! Went here to get some dinner and where do I start off...they barely had any food selections. It's as if they don't prepare for their food restaurant to be busy around dinner time! Whatever food they ran out (which was a good amount of the food they had displayed all together) they weren't even prepared to cook more. It was pretty much "we're out of this and if you wanted it then oh well!" To top it off the employees were very rude. One lady was taking spoons from one plate of sides and then sticking right into another plate of sides instead of getting a new spoon or at least cleaning it off. We had a wonderful time today at lunch. Somehow i been to Lubys dozen times in 20 years and just never considering it a special meal. Today i made a decision to go eat at lubys more often and add it to my list of Restaurants. I had a blacken snapper ( keep in mind i know it was a frozen tilapia at $4.50lb) delicious. Perfectly cooked, moist on the inside with plenty of byte! Very generous portion of broccoli and a house salad for .69c extra made for a complete lunch.. The line was full of good looking choices, which included several fish options, pork , chicken, ribs. I almost opted for something less healthy. For 3 of us and with $21 tab i had to leave a tip on a table. It made me feel better. Only thing i would change is the look of the place. Most lubys are very outdated and somehow fail in an ambiance sector. But that is some food for thought and may not help to sell more of that yummy liver i am going to get next time. read more

For Luby's, the food was good. There was a long line for lunch on a weekday, but went through it rather quickly. My only gripe about this location is the WiFi. Luby's asks for an email address and to enter what location you're eating at. When scrolling through the regional locations, the login goes back to the initial sign in. After the fifth attempt, I just turned my phone's WiFi. That's what I get for not putting my phone down. read more

Terrible food- mostly fried, oversalty and very overpriced. The deserts are especially bad. We had 2 main meat entrees (over $10 each!) with 2 sides each, a desert and a drink, and ended up with a bill of almost $40. What a ripoff! Beware the trip hazard as you enter the restaurant. The floor changes elevation and due to not being a level floor you have to go directly over the trip hazard. It is basically the threshold of the second glass door that you go through. If you survive crossing the trip hazard you will certainly enjoy the delicious food. read more

Been to a Lubys seafood and it was like a regular restaurant. This one is like a big buffet thing but you pay for everything on your tray at one time. Our check came out to 35. Noisy but clean. The staff was nice but there were a LOT of dirty empty tables for the amount of people walking around. Food is meh. read more

This was my first time at this location and I have been to better locations. I was a bit uncomfortable at this location because I wanted to enjoy my meal but there was a homeless man walking around inside going in and out of the bathrooms which did not leave me with a pleasurable experience here. I bought my mom here to enjoy lunch after being at the doctor's all morning and we could not enjoy yourselves. Luby's Cafeteria is a meat and two sides kind of place. Everything is already cooked and waiting to be served from the steam tables. As far as cafeterias go, Luby's is one of the better choices. They have a good selection of meats, vegetables, breads, desserts, and salads. read more

Really?!! No to go cups. Came for the Thursday night enchiladas. Didn't think I needed to bring my own cup to take my sweet tea home in. Pappas has let this location go to he'll. Ask to speak to the manager because I was planning to take their cup home with me and she never came to my table. After 10 minutes, I asked for a refund on my tea. I have tried on more than a few occasions to keep patronizing this location, but stick a BARBEQUE FORK in me, I'm done. Post Oak location here I come. read more

As a visitor to Texas, I wanted to try this place. Lots of varieties and a ton of food. My plastic bag almost broke due to the weight of the food. Everything was rich (butter probably). The only reason I did not like it was that not only did I suspect was hidden butter in a lot of their food but also very salty. Everything I tasted was too salty. Their roast chicken for example, despite removing the skin and digging into the inner meat, the salt was cloying every where. I have never had issues with salt at other places but here I couldnt eat past the salt. read more

Waitress filled my plate almost to overflowing with only the items I requested- all of which were fresh and healthy- sans meat- and took it next door to my room at Hampton Inn. Cost:$6.75. Same salad at Whole Foods in LA would have cost about $10 and not have been much better. ( saw lots of other food there I would not eat but that's a different story). They had many soups available for very reasonable prices- but my salad was so large I passed. read more
