Great spot for lunch or dinner! The food is delicious, freshly made, and made with high quality ingredients. The ambiance is both peaceful and fun! What truly stood out to me was Dana, our server. What a hospitable, welcoming and friendly young woman! The FOOD! I had the chicken wrap which out of this world! The chicken and bacon were cooked to perfection, and the fries were nicely seasoned. I recommend the organic oil to have the fries cooked in. My father had the rib eye, and he can't stop singing the cook/chef's praises! My mother had the cod on a bed of spinach, and was very pleased. On The Kirb is a fun play on words since the restaurant is right on Kirby! We came with a large group at 9:30PM and got seated right away at the large, tall tables in the back. The ambiance and furniture were very nice - great for group gatherings. The brussel sprouts were probably one of my favorites -- nice and crispy with great flavor. The pizza photos look great so I got the Kirberoni pizza but was slightly disappointed. The crust around the edges was really good, but unfortunately the middle was pretty soggy, probably from having a little too much sauce. Good flavors overall, but I wish the center had held up better. The beef shawarma wrap was good and surprisingly refreshing, and the hummus was really good as well. Several friends ordered burgers, and they looked great. I didn't try the burgers themselves, but I did get to try the fries -- they were delicious! I stopped by On The Kirb during the mens world cup season. It is definitely a great spot to go watch sports. They have a good happy hour. The tacos were really, really good and feeling. The biggest step back was probably the fact that like parking is really limited and you definitely have to do some street parking. We had a really good experience here! We stopped in after work with a pretty large group, and despite our party size, everything went smoothly. Our server was great, I can't remember his name, but he joked around with us the whole time and made the experience a lot more fun. Good service can really make a meal, and he definitely did. I asked him for his favorite menu item, and he recommended the Houston Cowboy Burger. It had really good flavor, and I enjoyed it overall. It was definitely on the spicy side (which makes sense with the jalapeños), but if you like a little heat, I'd recommend it. It wasn't the best burger I've ever had, but it was solid and I'd order it again. My only real complaint was that it was pretty loud inside. There was a game on, so there was a lot of cheering and noise, which made it feel a little overstimulating. That said, it's more of a sports bar atmosphere, so I don't really fault them for it, we just weren't there to watch the game. I was pleasantly surprised to find organic options and the use of tallow, both at the top of my list for eating out. I came here with a group of friends who love to hit up happy hour and know exactly where to go. There is another On the Kirb not too far from this one on Kirby. It was on a Wednesday and I found parking on the street not far from here. First thing I noticed was the margherita pizza. I chose the vegan version with vegan cheese. Friends were looking at me crazy. Margherita pizza has no meat already. No, it's the cheese that I can't eat. I think it was very flavorful. I shared it with a couple of friends. Their reactions were opposite. I don't blame them. Vegan cheese is not really cheese. Hahaha. Mashed potatoes was pretty good too. I like the atmosphere and the restaurant opens til late. I've always drove past this place, and never thought to come here until I had a lunch meeting. Our server was so patient and sweet. She showed us plenty of photos of the food as we are visual people. We ordered the grill board, and there were plenty of meats. All good. I ordered the grilled salmon and asked for medium rare. Unfortunately, it was too dry for my liking. Wife and I come here when we are in Houston. This place is awesome. The Brussel Sprouts are out of this world delicious. I have them every time I come. We had the 1/2 priced Tuesday Taco special. Wife ordered the fish tacos. Huge chunks of cod. I had shrimp tacos. Flour tortillas are better choice than corn. The shrimp are by far the Best shrimp tacos I have ever eaten. We went in to try it on a fall Saturday evening and found tables lined up to watch the UT game on a projection screen. But, there were other screens available for us to watch the Astros v. Seattle. Friendly and chatty waiter. Attractive margaritas, cold beer. I advise passing on the pizza, though. OTK has a nice Italian-style brick and tile pizza oven, gas-fueled and out in the open part of the kitchen. But the pizza itself suffered from low-quality ingredients. I enjoyed this elevated sports bar experience! Our waitress, Claire was adorable and had great recommendations! I was worried at first because upon entry, no one came to greet us at the door. I was thinking OK, not sure if this is a restaurant or a sports bar where we see ourselves. But thankfully, Claire came shortly after and got us taken care of. We were seated in a booth. It was cleaned right in front of us and we made sure to get waters and our drinks. The Mediterranean pizza, the buffalo wings, the brussels sprouts and the burger were all amazing! I was actually so surprised at how good everything was for being a sports bar. The prices were great as well. For myself and my partner we spent just under $70 for appetizers and full meals and a drink. It's definitely got the sports bar vibe down with numerous tv's, and that is a-ok, although not really why I come here. I am here for the organic food, plain and simple! On my first visit, we ordered the organic wings. Never in my life have I had wings that had actual meat on them in good portion. It's normally piddly little wings, but not these! For my entree, I ordered the filet. It was amazing, seasoned well, and cooked to perfection! And of course, no meal would be complete without an old-fashioned, and they sure knew how to make it right! On my second visit, we decided to get the charcuterie board. The selections were delicious and the portion was just right for my husband and I. This time, they were having a happy hour special so I got a bottle of wine and some fish tacos. The tacos were so good, but honestly, my heart belongs to the filet and I am certain this is what I will get next time I am there. There is so much to choose from here, the menu is quite extensive. The food is where I have to express mixed feelings. We ordered the nachos with added chicken, which was a good deal at about $14. They were solid, a really great portion, and were simply good. The red wine brussels sprouts were good but not the best, a little one-note and too sweet... underwhelming. The bananas foster bread was weirdly heavy and syrupy, making it a chore to finish. I go here for the wings. I'm from Baltimore and these are closet I have found here. I get them fried hard in buffalo sauce and their blue cheese is really good. I also like the hibiscus's margarita. They are only $9 and get the syrup cut in half for less sugar and it's already served with soda water. Also I'm a Ravens a fan so I was able to hunker down and watch the game Sunday! The service was a little slow but game days can be like that. My only other complaint was that the chairs at the bar have really low backs so sitting there for a few hours wasn't as comfortable as most sports bars. read more
