Most of the time this is a favorite place of mine to eat but today opted to have a pumpkin or it could have been a sweet potato pie....I love both. But it had an awful taste so I would not recommend it to anyone. The broccoli and cheese had way more cheese than broccoli, the fried fish, iced tea, bread and new potatoes were good. The lady who was our waitress was a sweetheart (she's very close to 80) bringing things like butter and lemons to our table without us requesting and refilling our drinks. My first experience here was not good so it's amazing that I have this place a second chance. I'm glad I did because I actually appreciated the food and options presented this time around. I had the breaded chicken smothered in white gravy with corn and macaroni. Oh and a roll. The chicken was a large breast that came out tender and well seasoned. The portions were good and nothing to complain about for the great price of $9ish. You get in this line and see all this food. It's already ore cooked similar to a cafeteria style eatery. My daughter decided to pick Lucy's up after work. I wasn't thrilled because when we lived in Friendswood, we visited the Luby's on 45, Webster. We remembered the old Luby's at bay brook mall and it was delicious. But this new location just didn't hit the mark. The food had no flavor. Well, she stopped in the woodland's on her way home and brought dinner home. Oh my goodness, it was superb. My complements to the chef. This is a very odd review. It is ONLY for the chicken fried chicken on thier menu cuz it is the bomb diggity. The restaurant is older, decor is outdated, and the bread options are pretty bad. Decent service and prices are slightly high end. But order the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and white gravy and some mac n cheese and it's a meal you will talk about for a few days. I love how juicy and big the chicken is with that crispy fried batter, and with minimal seasoning, it's a thing of beauty. It literally gives Raising Cane's a run for thier money! read more

Every now and then I like coming here to pick up some lunch since it's so close to my workplace. You definitely get your money's worth here. The combos range from around $8-11 and it usually lasts me about 2-3 meals during the day! And I kind of like the fact that this place is like a cafeteria. You just get in line, pick your entree either whole or Luann (half-sized), and if you're getting a combo, you get to pick two sides and a roll. There are so many things to choose from it's hard to choose just one entree and two sides! But I usually go with the baked almondine or fried fish. And as for the sides, get either the grilled green beans, broccoli, spinach, mashed potatoes w/ brown gravy, or macaroni and cheese. I always get the wheat roll. Keep in mind that the salads and desserts cost extra and aren't part of the combo. What I don't like about this place is that the menu changes each day, offering certain entrees/sides a day that the other days don't (their staples like the chicken fried steak, fried fish, baked almondine, etc. are there every day of the week though!). I would find it much easier if they had a set schedule of what they're selling online, rather than having to call or go up there to find out. This place gets rather busy during lunch time so plan accordingly if you wanna bring your family or friends here. Or if you wanna place a to-go order, be patient with them. Or better yet, call in ahead of time then just come to pick it up. As Elorie K. said in her review, the service is a little above subpar. They usually get your order right and don't give you an attitude. But they're not all smiles and friendly either. I've never had a bad experience here, so I'm not complaining! What to say. I have had lunch here virtually every day for 8 years. I like it because the food is consistent and I love the staff. However, over the past year, things have been going downhill. They changed the green beans they had served for years, then they brought them back. The "Fresh" green beans were added as a upgraded vegetable. What the yelp? I mean, for real, an upgraded vegetable. I have never heard of such. I like to get a tea to go. A large tea. I don't mind paying for it. I was told 2 weeks ago, that the district manager had come in and taken all the large cups.......and that they were never to return again. Now, you have to go somewhere else to get a large iced tea, that is a problem. I have reached out to their office several times over the past year, but they really do not care. The last time I called, that was made abundantly clear. The local management and team are very nice, but need better excuses than to say, "corporate" made a change. This is a reasonably well-kept Luby's out on the west side of Houston, tucked in a shopping center just off a minor intersection. The food is usually fresh and everything tastes good. They do a good job of keeping the place clean, though not as clean as I've seen at a few other locations. I've only had one bad experience here, where we found hair in one of the two liver and onions platters we had ordered. They both stated that is my JOB to make sure everything is the bag. I'm like, I don't work at LUBY'S EXCUSE ME. I've been working and eating at Lubys for only a few months now and I can wholeheartedly say I would die for this restaurant. I would crawl through a mile of shattered glass just for a whiff of the sweet potato and don't even get me started on the chicken madera. Love, Love Love this location! I have been coming here for YEARS! I've been to several other Luby's locations (Katy, Fondren, etc) this one I always come to. The workers know me and my kids we come so often lol There is nothing negative I have to say EXCEPT the wait for the line is sometimes ridiculous at the cash register when you are ready to pay. When they see someone is holding up the line there needs to be a worker there to open up the second register. I will say out of all the years I've been there only TWICE I have had to wait in line so long to pay that when I sat down my found was no longer warm. The style of Lubys has changed they don't have a menu to let you know exactly how much the Lu Ann plate is so you have to ask. I must say the quality of the food has improved. I usually love lubys but tonight yikes. I went for a pick up and they told me they were out of pie. No problem but I get home and I got chicken and macaroni none of the other sides I ordered but i got 2 containers of gravy. I can't go back now I'm working. I hate being thought of as difficult so I never say anything when I'm at a restaurant. I came here around lunch time . Pretty busy parking lot was full. Came inside hoped in line and I got some meat loaf with there corn casserole along with the mash potatoes and brown gravy . Meat loaf was dam good had been craving it for a long time . Mash potatoes weren't all that jazzy . I had to add salt and pepper to them they had no flavor . The beach didn't help them out . Let's talk about this corn casserole though! It was heavenly like every fork full . One of the line workers mentioned it was good with a bit of tang to it . So I then it . The cabbage and black eyed peas were pretty okay but the spinach and artichoke fish was bland and the jalapeno cornbread is ok just a bit dry. They are not as good as they used to be. I miss Wyatt's and Piccadillys. read more

This is what all Luby's Cafeterias should strive to be. The food is well-prepared, the line moves quickly, the salads are pre-prepared (with options available to upgrade), and the food is still hot by the time you sit down to eat. All of the dishes we ate were very tasty, and not oversalted. The one thing we noticed was the lack of a condiments table, and we also did not see any of the "servers" that are present at the other location we frequent who bring condiments to your table. Possibly it was because we were there at dinnertime, but we couldn't obtain pepper sauce for our greens. Otherwise, it was an excellent experience, and the parking lot was patrolled by a mobile security guard about 6:15-7:00 PM. read more

I contacted a manager this morning, after i noticed the cost of a qt size of pinto beans for 10.99 I explained to him I was bringing it back , he stated he cant take it back because of food cost. Wow what a pathetic manager. We come there all the time, all by far this is the worst manager ever I mean the absolute worst. What type of manager would tell a customer about their food cost problems. If a customer is unsatisfied they should be able to make some type of amends. This manager needs to be trained on customer service skills. He began arguing with me , and had no interest at all of what I was explaining to him , Luby's you need to do better than this , you don't allow your managers to talk down to any customer. I realize you may be scrambling for money but you need to respect your customers , I wasn't rude to him he should have accommodated my concern. It was really really bad. And we used to love this place, this location - the whole fam did! The fish was flavorless and stale, sides were blah, bread was old. Now we've come here dozens of times before so something is seriously wrong. Not sure if it's new management or they're trying to cut corners or what. I ended up telling the server that my wife didn't like her food and he offered to trade it. My wife actually resisted but then went with it. This is a choice place for my family breakfasts. Every once in a while my family will clear their schedules on a Sunday morning and get together for a breakfast here. It's 5.49 per person for all you can eat, so it's pretty cheap. The service is a little above subpar. You just ask for your food when you're in line, so you get what you want. Their selection is vast, so you could probably have a few plates without repeating. The food quality is okay, though. It isn't mama's morning goodness but at least it isn't a homeless shelter. I just stick with eggs, bacon, sausage, and some sweet tea. Simple and easy for me. There's a waiter/ress when you get to your table that will get you anything you forgot or refills for when you're low. Great for families. read more

Im proud to say that I LOVE LUBYS I grew up eating Lubys. My parents never cooked as i was a child and Lubys was what i ate almost every single day growing up from elementary, middle school and high school. Since college ive moved to NYC but this is the ONE THING I MISS THE MOST about home and texas. I miss LUBYS!!! more than my friends and family. ok maybe not but god damn i LOVE LUBYS. Ive eaten at this location so many times ive lost count. I think ive eaten here over 2000 times!!! When i say ive ate here almost every single day growing up as a kid im not lying. Well maybe not EVERY day but a good chunk! Bottom line is I have seen lubys change a lot throughout the year. I cant say all for the better. I wish lubys was still the old classic lubys. I enjoy the chicken fried steak and the fried fish, but the vibe isnt the same anymore and the parent company which bought over lubys is trying to make it "nicer" when its suppose to be a no frills all about the good food and good service. I've been coming here for years with my parents. Not my favorite but it was solid and made my dad happy. This last time we went the food and service were AWFUL. Seriously, it felt like a joke it was so bad. The food tasted very old, bread was sour, fish had no flavor, vegetables just tasted off. Like they'd be cooked and then cooked again to keep them out.
