Chicken Shawarma, Sautéed Eggplant, Fried Cauliflower

Really good value for price point. Shawarma was soft and yummy. Eggplant and cauliflower were also pretty good. Wouldn't recommend the spinach pastries at the front tho. Dry and not yummy

My family likes this place but I've been disappointed the last few times. The iced tea, at $3.79, is watered down. The tilapia has more peppers on the sauce than I can count. The rice pilaf and tabbouli were good. The hummus is not my cup of tea. Unless you ask for pita bread for the hummus, you won't automatically get it. My mom was disappointed with her lentil soup. I'll only return when family chooses Arpi's.

Falafel plate. They skimped me on falafel

Mannnn I got some Uber eats from Phoenicia and I was beyond dissatisfied. They gave me 3 tiny balls of falafel for my falafel lunch plate.... Not only that they also forgot my pita bread. I love shopping here but I may have to avoid their deli if they are gonna skimp this hard on the portions

I love their chicken shawarmas here and always buy them for my friends and family while I'm here. We've been coming for well over the last decade, but I'm not sure why it's always such a big deal though when it comes to the chips and garlic sauce that come with it as of late. When we guy one sandwich, it comes with a bag of pita chips and two garlic sauces, however, if we buy 5 or more shawarma's they limit us on 3 bags of chips for some reason. I tell them we are bagging them to individual folks, but there seems to be no budging. Then I've even offered to buy the bag of chips so everyone can have their own bag but they won't well it to me either citing we have to buy their large bag. Love their food at the end of the day nonetheless, but the logic is a bit off in my opinion.

I worked for Phoenicia Specialty Foods (1001 Austin St, Houston,TX) for almost 7 years as head of catering.... Best experience ever... These days I am with a London based investment firm and serve as EVP of Operations for US Operations covering the Italian Market and Restaurants known as EATALY. Phoenicia was my school and now I teach - best way to describe it, but their Chicken Shawarma, Tabouli and Mujadara are some of the best that I've had!

    Classic Baklava

While visiting Houston I came across this Mediterranean restaurant that caught my eye and I had to try it! The service was pleasant and warming. The restaurant was clean and well kept. The food was tasteful. My fiancé and I tried their chicken and beef Shawarma. Then we indulged in one of their classic baklava, which was so delicious! I would definitely recommend this place!

When I arrived I wasn't greeted. Mind you I have never been here prior and was a little overwhelmed by choices and what was included from what the menu stated. A lady took our order and I ordered the Pilaf with shawarma and the other person with me ordered the chicken wrap shawarma. I asked for sides because I wanted to make them a "plate", which states on their menu above when ordering. The lady serving us said it's not included and we would be charged extra for each side. She then walks away from us and we were left standing there confused. Another coworker of hers says, "can I help you" and I explained that another lady was helping us and walked away. I was very confused as to why she walked away while taking our order. I found it quite rude. In the end she did not ring us up and the lady that was making coffee type drinks ended ringing us up for our meals. I would like to give this lady the benefit of the doubt, but when in the customer service industry it's beneficial to be at least polite to customers. In the end I felt very unwelcomed but the food was good.

You could get really simple and tasty southern style food for a good price. Us kids loved going because not only could we pick out a delicious entree and two sides of our choice, out health nut parents allowed us to get a dessert of our liking as well as a drink of our liking because the value was so good. Also, if other people from church came, aside from plenty hugs, we sat by ourselves close by and roared with laughter until our church members got in on the jokes and the whole section was laughing. Good times. Grandma often paid for everyone since it was affordable to her and she loved us to pieces. I said all that to say that Luby's gives that nostalgic feeling of my youth. Now, the food isn't at the level that it needs to be but it is comforting. I can just hear grandma asking everyone if they are okay and enjoying their meal! My favorite items from her are the homemade dressing, mashed potatoes, savory green beans, delicious butter corn kernels, mac and cheese, whole wheat rolls, cabbage, and cornbread. Basically the sides. The mac and cheese is not yellow but it is very cheesey and nice! So delicious and creamy. They have a good dessert list but my sweet tooth hasn't picked back up. Would recommend!

Further finding outdoor parking is not possible at a peak hour but note that there is an easily accessible parking garage. This Treebeards appearance was very pretty (not what I was expecting giving my experience with the downtown location and I am not sure that it is still around). Also, some other nice restaurants in this block. The restaurant was packed with professionally dressed people. The waiter took our order, and he was accommodating to substitutions and our selection of side orders. I got fried catfish. This is not a normal selection for me as I will normally avoid fried foods other than fries and chips (yes, and I wonder why I do not lose the 5 lbs. that I need to lose). Service was quick and our order was perfect. The friend catfish was outstanding as it was right out of the fryer. It was a very pleasant experience and I would happily go back.

They've built a loyal and local following by making comfort food the centerpiece of their many talents (#2). When the food is as tasty as the customer service is friendly, it's hard not to love all they to offer. The shop is so small that seating is non-existent, (#3) thus it's strictly a takeout and delivery establishment. Their display case of hot foods changes throughout the day, depending on availability. Anything after the late afternoon is a huge gamble, so when in doubt, call ahead of time to confirm whether an item is available. I love to pop in just to get a good visual of my choices -- and I've always managed to walk out with something delicious. Of all the items I've tried, there have been standouts across the board. The oxtail, stewed chicken with gravy, smothered rib tips, meat loaf, and their über famous honey glazed wings and meatballs are fabulous. Their sides of dressing, sweet candied yams, mac and cheese, and fried green tomatoes make for a perfectly complete meal. Even the cornbread is outstanding, which is really saying something. I'd be remiss not to mention their incredibly underrated desserts. The peach cobbler is fire, pound cake and banana pudding are excellent, and their triple layered German-chocolate cake floored me. It was decadent, a tinge savory, and extremely addicting. The fact they offer catering for every item mentioned above means my future potlucks are going to be next level. When they're ready to open another location in a different part of town, I can only hope it'll be closer to me.
