I won't give it five stars because they don't give you chips in your to go order anymore like before . If I would've sat down and paid the same price they would've gave me chips so I'm paying the same amount of money so I don't get why my order wouldn't come with chips lol I asked the lady and she said they never have even tho I have been going here longer than she has been working there so I know they used too. After grabbing dinner in the area, we stopped by La Tapatia Westheimer about an hour before they closed for some drinks. We sat at the bar. Located off of Westheimer, there's plenty of parking. Ambiance (3.5/5): Pretty much your typical Mexican restaurant. Lots of tables and a bar area in the back. Mexican decor. Nothing to complain about and nothing to write home about. Service (5/5): We were the only people at the bar so I guess it was easy to provide us with excellent service. You'd be surprised sometimes though. The bartender did a good job checking in on us and allowed us to stay a little later after the restaurant closed. Food (N/A): We had dinner prior so only drinks on this visit. Drinks (4.5/5): When I'm at a Mexican restaurant, margaritas are my typical go-to. But here's the thing. Not just a regular marg. I'm always open they have Coronitas! What is a Coronita, you ask? Take a jumbo margarita and then place a beer upside down in the margarita mug. Two drinks in one. And the gift that keeps on giving! As you drink your margarita, your mug will replenish with the beer. It's great and it's delicious. While you can go with a Corona, La Tapatia allows you to choose whatever beer you'd like. They had your typical selection including Dos Equis, Pacifico, Modelo Especial, and Tecate. If you're about that Coronita life like I am, you can get a good one here. read more

I've been to a different location before and had a great lunch there but I've always passed by this location and was never sure about it because it's in the corner and never looked busy. It wasn't busy at all when we arrived but that was fine; they brought out chips and salsa. Red is spicy and the green wasn't spicy at all but really good- I added it on top of my flautas. We got a chicken burrito, didn't know it would be smothered with cheese but that was perfect for my husband. I got the chicken flautas and it only comes with two but they're very long and very crunchy and savory-not dry at all! It's actually so sad.... There is zero management. They could be making so much more money. Their food is good, great prices, but their service needs a major adjustment. It starts with the class and knowledge at the management level. Get it together your bar tender should not leave the bar during your busy hours to sit at a table and eat food, while giving the stink eye to people trying to ask for a drink. Employees should eat behind the public eye. If you are working the bar, then be a bar tender. They lost out on so much money because the lack of training and knowledge. The newer locations have a slightly lower quality of food and slightly higher prices, although every Tapatia is expensive, and that's why I only gave them three stars. We come regularly to this place as it is just around the corner. Waiters do get busy from time to time, but all of them seem to be very nice and attentive. My personal favourite are the street tacos, but I don't remember having anything bad here. The only reason this is not the only Mexican restaurant we eat at are the flautas. They make them with flour tortillas and I prefer them with corn. read more

Service was poor at best. The plate I ordered was $15.95 and came with refried beans. When the plate came out it had whole pinto beans (no seasoning, tasted like they were straight out of a can) on the plate instead, which I did not order. When my bill came I was charged $17.95 for the plate, I asked the server for a corrected bill with the menu price of $15.95. She came back with an altered bill charging me extra for the whole pinto beans, again which I did not order. I had a bad experience a few months ago with a margarita served in a broken glass, bad service and no so good food. I gave them ample time to redeem themselves which they actually have gotten worse, so I won't be back and will continue to give and offer bad reviews to those who ask. This is not a good restaurant. Lunch of amazing fajitas, terrific service, and fantastic pricing! Went on a Friday with a co worker. The weather was good so we choose the patio seating. This is just a small area on the side but tables are clean and servers are attentive. Both had a small house margarita - we loved them. Too bad we had to go back to work and couldn't indulge in a second round. In perusing the lunch menu I was amazed they offered individual fajitas for such a great price: $7 chicken, $8 beef! I worried they wouldn't be good, but let me tell you.... the beef fajitas were great. (I didn't try chicken). Sizzling, moist, bursting with flavor. New to the area, and I really needed a margarita! My boyfriend and I looked online and ran across this restaurant. Walked in and no one was at the front door. So, we walked towards the back, we ran into someone that worked there and asked if we can seat any where. We decided to sit in the bar area. Took the bartender about 20 minutes to come up to us and ask what we would like. She spoke spanish, so since I didn't speak Spanish back to her she never spoke to me. Only spoke to my boyfriend who was bilingual. Which I thought was rude. He ordered our drinks and he asked if we would could move up to the bar since there was only one person seating up there. She said yes. Still totally ignore us. Never explained the menu or that it was happy hour untill 11pm on Wednesday. Everyone was rude. My boyfriend asked for a kids menu from one of the waiters passing by, and never received one. Apparently they serve red and green salsa, but we only got two of the red sauces, but the bartender only brought us the red. We asked for the green and she said they were out. But we seen a waiter bring out green salsa when we told her that, she got mad and went to the back and then brought some green salas out. I hope she didn't spit in it? Anyways, I highly recommend going somewhere else. The service is horrible and the bartender was racist! The drinks look pretty, but NOT worth the service. Don't come here, go somewhere else!!! Can La Tapatia break the curse for this nice corner restaurant location? After all, before La Tapatia took over this spot, the previous tenant was also a Tex Mex restaurant. In my opinion, there's a slight chance but they do need to do some more improvements to do so. First of all, Rioja is right next door to this spot.Yes, I understand one is Tex-Mex and the other is Spanish tapas, but I'll be honest, to average going out to eat consumers, they're all the same in a way. For one thing, they are trying to distinguish itself from all other Tex Mex in Houston. For example, on their menu, their fajita platter called as de la parrilla, or from the grill. We came here for a weekday dinner and there wasn't too many customers that night. The hostess let us choose either table or booth and we choose the booth. After we sat down, the server came and took our drink order and we were looking over the menu while we wait for the drink and the chips + salsa. Now as for the food, I did order the One Parrillada Mixta for 2 since I felt like beef and chicken, but it also comes with shrimp which is good as my dining mate like shrimp the most. The food came out in good time along with all the sides to make the fajitas. The food is good but nothing really special that makes this place stand out from any other Tex Mex in the area. But the plus side about this place is that it is really close to where I live and the next Tex Mex restaurant is a few more blocks down from this place. With the price of the food and the service, I would definitely come back again when I crave for more fajitas or any other Tex Mex food. read more

I was at this restaurant with friends (see Weldon G review). I live within walking distance of this establishment and have eaten here over several years. The service is up and down and the food is ok. The waiter was very unpleasant and displayed an attitude indicating our business had no value to him. We usually sit on the patio but they beginning spray washing it when we arrived. When asked why do this cleaning in the middle of business hours, the waiters indicated that it doesn't hurt business because we still remained for services. Weldon asked for Seltzer water and asked if there was a charge for water, which the waiter replied no. We order food then asked for the bill. He charged for a vodka drink that was not ordered or provided. By the way, Weldon doesn't drink alcohol. After trying to get resolution of the mis-charge, I said don't worry we won't be coming back here ... the waiter commented "That's fine with me". I'll travel a little further from home for our weekly Happy Hour get together. We did nothing to warrant this kind of treatment. I'm sad that a local restaurant failed at basic service (respect, friendliness, and kindness missing). Only one staff member behaved this way but it's just not worth it for me. read more

I recently ate at La Tapatia on Westheimer with some friends that go there regularly, and I was charged for a drink I did not order, by our waiter David. When I explained to him that I don't drink and had asked him for seltzer water, he repeatedly told me there was vodka in the tall glass he brought, and that I order it. I reminded him that I had asked if he was going to charge me for the seltzer water and he told me no because it was only seltzer water. The waiter still refused to admit he had made a mistake or take the charge off my bill, and insisted I ordered a vodka and water. I eventually talked to the manager and explained to him that I don't drink and would know and immediately feel if I had drunken a tall glass of vodka and water. The manager eventually took the charge off my bill, but did not show any sign of contrition for the mistake or how the waiter had treated me, and neither of them apologized. Further, when my friends and I said we would not be back, the waiter responded, "Fine with me." To me, this was the ultimate form of disrespect and lack of customer appreciation. read more

This is the sad tale of how one restaurant went from 5 stars to 1 star in one hour. My friend and I were hungry last night...It was Wednesday at 1030 PM. I decided we would go here because the food looked good, and it was close to My house. We arrive at the restaurant around 1050, and they close at midnight. We walk in, wait about a minute to be greeted, then seated. There was one other patron in the restaurant with us. We get taken to a booth - the seats were dirty, and we asked for them to be wiped off. Happy hour was over at 11, but apparently we missed it by 30 seconds....whatever. We ordered fajitas mixtos nachos - half order - for an appetizer. Between the drink and the fajita nachos - the restaurant was well on its way to 5 stars. The nachos were the BOMB! Reminded Me of a restaurant I used to go to frequently back in WI. I hadn't had fajita nachos like that in years. I was HAPPY. For our entrees, We ordered one carnitas burrito dinner and one shrimp burrito a la carte - not a dinner - no guac or tomatoes (because Im allergic) and lettuce on the side (because I hate hot lettuce). This is where the story goes to the left. Our food comes. The carnitas burrito is perfect. Looks good, smells good - friend dives in. My burrito comes and I get ready to take a bite...and green oozes out of the burrito.....Its almost like they put extra guac on it. I flag down one of the 4 different servers who served us last night, and let her know I ordered it without guac. She takes it away and they make another. A different waitress comes and brings Me burrito #2....It is now 11:40 PM. The staff is cleaning and putting chairs on tables. I look at burrito # 2....Looks right from the outside....Open it....and its nothing but steak wrapped in a tortilla.....(WTF just happened here?! (insert confused face)) After about 4 minutes of trying to get someones attention....another waitress came and I told her I had a SHRIMP burrito....not steak. So, she took it away. I told them to just scratch it....I didn't even want a burrito at this point...but I'm still friggin hungry! So, the original waitress comes over and re-asks me if I want them to remake it for yet a third time....its 1150....this is "I'll spit in your food because you got Me recooking items 2 minutes before close" timeframe. The waitress reassured Me no one would spit in My food...not that she'd tell Me if they did. Anywho - about 7 minutes later, burrito numero tres makes its way to the table. I ask for them to just make it to go because they are ****near ready to start cutting lights off, and I was through with them at this point. The bag of food to-go comes along with the receipt. Now....I didnt even get to enjoy My food, because y'all couldn't get it right, yet you didn't offer any type of consolation or to remove the charge for it. There was no one else in the restaurant, so there is no reason it should have been wrong three times....Yes, I said three times because - guess what..... When I got home, and bit into the burrito - there was no cheese...just shrimp and sour cream...I NEVER said no cheese....in fact - I ordered EXTRA cheese.....yet there was none. I had a sour cream burrito - with a side of shrimp. I was wondering why this place didnt have more stars.....Now, I know why. It's on the rather pricier side ....But, The food is SO good, drinks are BANGING! But, only if they can get it right!...Which...I have no faith in. I come late when it calm, never have I had issues with their service and the food is pretty good. Prices are far it you want cheap go to a taco stand its that simple.
