I've visited this location a few times and was pleased with the coffee. However, during my last visit I was left with an unpleasant impression of the staff. I ordered an almond croissant that was warmed. However, when I went to eat it about an hour later it had hardened to the point where I couldn't bite into it. Since I don't work too far from this location I went back to explain that the croissant was too hard because it either had been warmed for too long or was stale. The woman at the counter immediately became argumentative and stated she couldn't just replace the croissant because I had taken too long to eat it. I told her I had just came by about an hour ago and she laughed and stated she seen me "long ago". It was only 9:30 am and I stopped by around 8:30. Ultimately, I decided to leave but unfortunately I will not be back. The fact that she chose to argue over something as trivial as a croissant rather than ensure a customer was satisfied lead me to believe customer service is not a priority here. The best coffee drink I've ever had. The black island, which is the pandan coffee, simply can't be described in words. The coffee taste isn't really there, but the drink explodes with flavor. The charcoal adds a bit of a gritty texture, which adds depth to the smooth and creamy consistency of the pandan with coconut milk. My only complaint is that the interior of the store smells like booty-hole (from the restroom). I will be returning to take my drink to-go. read more

A-Mazing island ice latte. The only cafe that offers pandan flavor latte, that I know of, in the Houston area. Must try if you have never had it and is a coffee lover, like myself. Latte are strong yet settle without the bitterness. Food are delicious as well, try their breakfast tacos if you're craving for more savory or their blueberry danish for something more semi-sweet! I can never get my hands on brisket breakfast tacos but maybe I come too late (~10 AM) so something for you to think about. Service are always friendly and there's usually a line, for good reasons. Two small seatings outside for when it's not triple digits in Texas unless you want to be in a natural sauna. Limiting seatings inside but most people just grab and go. read more

But you know what, I woke up way too early in the morning and had already put in around 15,000 steps, so I was ready for coffee #5. I had bookmarked Luce Ave and wanted to check them out anyway, so what better time than now? Normally I ordered black coffee, but my wife got an island latte and I took a sample sip. Before it was all 100% swallowed, I was walking up to the counter to order my own. It was delicious and what all (non-black) coffee should taste like. Ordered black island and island latte at 50% sweetness. It seems these two are the heavily favored taste as per review. At 50% sweetness it's still a bit on the sweet taste, the pandan taste is still traceable in the black island but on the latte it's barely there except in the smell. Also ordered almond croissant, warmed up, gosh! It's super sweet , granted the taste is good. I wish the sugar is not so overwhelming and almost obscure the taste of everything. Service is not bad, the guy almost forgot to mention the 50% sweetness, I wonder if I would have had a syrups coffee instead. In addition to pastries this place also sells tacos, yes! Do yourself a favor and check out Luce Ave Coffee Roasters. They're located in a nice area of Houston near the Greenway plaza (Costco, LA Fitness, lots of other amenities). The shop itself is a bit small but they've done a good job of maximizing their space, and there appeared to be enough seats to study or take a call. My partner and I tried two of their iced coffees - the fallchata and the black island. The fallchata had all the qualities of a good fall beverage but without the overpowering pumpkin spice artificial/chemically taste. It's quite good and not overly sweet. It also comes with oat milk for those of us who need milk alternatives. The black island is like the polar opposite but is equally as tasty. It has a rich, charcoal and pandan flavor and it comes in a beautiful presentation. It's not super bitter, don't worry. I'll definitely be coming back to try more of their offerings. read more

As one of the most popular coffee spots in town, Luce Ave has done well for itself. It's become a pseudo destination for coffee aficionados and a convenient option for the many people working / living nearby. It's an ideal place to work remotely and most importantly, a place to enjoy a quality beverage. Like most cafes in general, it's not exactly a large space. The narrowness of the interior makes this place a tight squeeze, especially when it's crowded. There are lines during their prime hours and seats for a lot of solo action, as opposed to a coffee date. WiFi is good for the most part and ambiance is trendy and modern. If we're going on just the coffee alone, then it's a big thumbs up. The aroma in the mornings is a wonderful thing and the sounds of beans being grinded or milk being frothed is more of an attraction than a distraction. The coffees here range from $3-5, which is fairly modest given the rise of pandemic prices with respect to the quality of coffee being served. Their lattes are lovely and the signature creamericano is a popular option. They also serve the infamous affogato and make a mean caramel macchiato. Lately I've been very into their teas, especially the black raspberry iced tea. Many folks have come here for the IG famous black label charcoal drinks, and if anyone is going that route then it should be the black island (layered coconut, pandan latte, charcoal espresso on top) all the way. Service is fairly speedy and nice overall. They have to serve long lines daily and do a good job at keeping up a fairly good pace. Parking can be a tight at times, but since it's part of a strip mall, there's always a good flow of traffic going in and out. read more

The only thing I wish is their iced drinks came in a bigger size than 16oz. They have 2 non-dairy options, almond and oat. I'm a soy girl but they're coffee is perfect blend that I don't mind the almond. They have sugar free flavorings which is always a plus in my book. There's wifi and places to sit indoors and out. It can get a little crammed inside. Theres restrooms however they're locked, which when once I was inside sitting it was hard because there was a line and the baristas were busy, so wasn't optimal to ask for the key for the bathroom. Love Luce!! their drinks are always so good, especially if you get them half sweet or less than half sweet. my favorite is the minimal sweetness matcha latte with coconut milk. it has an earthy, yet islandly taste. it's like i'm at the beach and a beautiful fairy forest at the same time. The only issue with this location, is that the space is kind of small and tight . i hope they decide to do an expansion one day. the only places to sit inside is a narrow hallway. it's great if you like the cozy vibe! but if you prefer to sit by a window, or have a large open indoor area, definitely go to another location!! read more

It's a pretty busy coffee shop, but the staff are so welcoming and helpful. Not only are there many drink options they also locally produced spices & ginger beer (which I made sure to grab). I decided to try the Black Island latte & loved it! The latte has charcoal infused in it to create a cool looking drink that taste really good too. The place is kinda small. It has max 20 people worth of seating both inside and outside. There were only 2 baristas when I was there, so it look around 15-20 minutes to get one cup of coffee. They have lots of food options and baked goods (didn't see any vegan treats) The baristas are super efficient and kind, greeting you as soon as you walk in. I could see myself coming here for a workspace in the middle of the week. The parking is free but in a strip center by one of the busy crawfish spots and some bars so be prepared for the craziness to find a spot. It's a small coffee shop, high turnover rate for customers, the line is right next to the entrance. Limited seating, and the parking is decent but try not to park in spots reserved for other businesses as you will get towed. The coffee is solid... like solid like no other. The matcha latte is a tad sweet for me, but highly recommended by Chef Patrick from kokoro/ handies People in the area know that this is a solid coffee joint, so there will be a line, and sometimes it can take 15 minutes to get your coffee in high volume times. Depending on the time that you go the service may be fast or slow. It's a small working area and just be patient with the baristas. I highly recommend going in the non busy times, before 7a for sure, and you may want to ask the barista what is the busy times. They'll know more than me. I have been here more than a dozen times, and there are times I prefer going to the other location for the quicker turn over time and space.
