Brunch was a disaster - the filet of sole was overcooked, dry, and fishy. What they call a bloody Mary, was alcohol, spices, and water. Even the Pasta Bolognese was relatively tasteless, although what little pasta there was, was properly cooked. The ambience, the place was quite nice, and the staff is very polite and accommodating. Unfortunately, service is extremely slow, because they are too busy. Even delivery of the entrées took about an hour. Loved the bread with small antipasto plate that came for free before the meal. Also got the seafood platter for two. The clams lobster and shrimp were good, but the main disappointment was the oysters and crab - they didn't seem like the best quality and didn't taste great. Couldn't eat the crab. I'll start with the good because it is so short: the space is very nice, some of the entrees tasted pretty good - but only the entree itself, not the side dishes served on the plate with the entree. So about 15 percent of the food was any good. The space was well lit and attractive however. The pasta was a joke, like college cafe style joke. I'd get better pasta at noodles (a Midwest chain) than this "fine dinning" establishment. And there is the other key mistake, this is not a fine dining establishment, and they should not have advertised as such. They claim it is unfair to compare them to Cafe Alaia, why then did they open right down the street? But they are correct, the other similar offerings on the street are simply worlds better. This spot can not compete in a sentence with them. The side dishes were undercooked, veggies inedible and the fries had so much truffle oil as to be inedible. Do not go here, maybe whatever replaces it will be better. Oh, and it took hours to get the crappy food with a wait staff that did not care at all. They need all new staff, all new kitchen, and someone should teach the management and ownership what fine dining is. Least I forget, the service was by far the worst part. After nearly an hour the server finally returned to our table to explain the meat and cheese plates we ordered off the menu we're taking so long because, and I quote, "we do not know how to make them, you are the first to order". I encouraged them not to admit such foolishess in the future...if a restaurant can not make a meat and cheese plate, if they have not practiced their own menu 6 weeks from hard open, well they are not much of a restaurant now, are they? Lucia's is in the former Via Forno space. This space was formerly a seven 11 convenience store. The look and feel of the restaurant post renovation is actually fairly impressive as I found it warm and comfortable. The food and especially the service really needs some work and improvement. Food quality and preparation is what I would call just ok. Whether it was the bruschetta or the main courses- it was fine but nothing special or memorable. In a busy field of Italian restaurants in the area you need to do something to stand out from the crowd and Lucia's did nothing special from this perspective. Service was below par- first course items were forgotten, special descriptions were unknown.... Splitting a check in two with a partial cash payment seemed perplexing. BTW- The French fries and cheesecake were both very good. Pricing is a bit on the high side and the location can be tricky but there is a huge Metro North parking lot right behind the restaurant. If I am going for Italian Food on Garth Rd. you have Cafe Alia and their small sub- restaurant Aperiti just a few doors away. Is there a compelling reason that you would go elsewhere? That will decide the success of this establishment. read more

We've been to Lucia's twice and both times had a great dinner. The food is excellent. I highly recommend the Shrimp Scampi. The service was good, but clearly the staff is all new so they are going through a learning curve. They are attentive, but need a tad more experience. Lucia's redo looks great. White table clothes. I made a reservation ( I went in person to make it and discuss the menu) for a luncheon at 1:00. I called that our party was running late and was told they canceled my reservation. Never notifying me. First they said they had kitchen problems. Then they said they were never open for lunch and then the guy was SO RUDE and just hung up on me I tried calling back but he kept sending me to an answering machine. Welcome to town. I recently wrote a review about this restaurant, but after my experience today, I've decided to delete it and post this update instead.When my food was served, I noticed a black hair on top of my chicken . I sent the meal back and decided to order something else. Shortly after, the manager, Tony, approached me and asked how my meal was. When I told him there had been a hair in my food, he simply responded, "Oh well, it happens sometimes."I told him not to say that to me since that never happen to me before , and he then proceeded to say, "Well, what can you do? We try."I am disgusted and appalled by his response. Finding a hair is bad enough, but the manager's complete lack of professionalism and accountability is unacceptable. I now perfectly understand why this restaurant has such poor reviews. I will not be returning. One thing is to find a hair in your food, but it's another to have your concerns dismissed like that. read more

The cadence of courses for our meal was all off- we were at a small table and we were not done with our appetizers when our entrees came and there was no room for both dishes on the table. We were at the restaurant for less than an hour when at least 5 waiters came by every two minutes to ask to clear our plates when more than half my entree was still on the plate uneaten. We had a nice time and food was fine but lots of misfires. Pasta was cold and overcooked. Food came out cold, I think the plates should be warmed. Bolognese was tasty, cacio Pepe meh. Veal scallopine was tasty enough. Grilled Brussels sprouts tasted like the electric broiler. I'm writing this review mainly to warn other customers to carefully check their bill and the amounts charged for each item. My first experience at this restaurant was about two months ago, shortly after it opened. At that time, the reviews were quite bad, but we actually had a good experience. Wanting to support a local business, I made a point of leaving a 5-star review. Unfortunately, our second visit yesterday was completely different. I could start by mentioning that we waited several minutes to be served, watching servers looking confused and walking back and forth without direction. I could also mention that the Chilean seabass I ordered was clearly not the fish that was served. Even with these issues, I probably would not have changed my overall rating. However, what happened with the bill and payment left us truly shocked. The check included an extra item (Pellegrino water) that we did not order or consume. We asked for it to be removed and handed over our card for payment. The server returned with a receipt that still included the incorrect item. We asked again for the charge to be canceled and corrected. At that point, the owner stepped in. He did remove the extra item -- but instead redistributed the amount across the other items on the bill, increasing each price. For example, a $42 dish was charged as $43.86, and the same adjustment was made to all items. This is unacceptable. Practicing this kind of behavior feels like outright dishonesty, especially in such a high-end neighborhood. Food was mediocre. Chicken with broccoli rabe was overcooked and the chicken was tasteless. Caesar salad was fine but no anchovies available. Branzino was acceptable but nothing special. Pizza oven was also not working. Service was equally bad with dirty plates sitting on the table for a while before cleared. We were seated by 6:45 and at 8:30 we still did not even have an appetizer then the Waiter came over stating that one of the entrées was not available, but he didn't know which entrée was not available and forgot what we ordered . I went to the manager, who literally walked away by 9:30 we left we were a party of seven only three got appetizers the other four of us never received our appetizers. I went back over to the Manager and he couldn't even care I even said to him you should've walked over after an hour and apologized that you're backed up and you can't accommodate us. Don't open a restaurant with half a staff and book it to full capacity knowing you can't service the people and two of the waiters don't even understand what you're saying and can't communicate. We understand this place is new and as an ex-restaurant owner where we sat 250 people at one time--if I had "newly opened" issues, as an owner, I would have done better. 1) We asked after 25 minutes where our meals were, and advised by the owner they forgot to fire them up--when it came out, it was a bit cold and rather than do what I would do, the owner seemed to avoid our table to ask if it was OK later on and shrugged off our answer. There was a load of help, that did more running around than taking care of the tables they served. The cushioned chairs lacked cushions and eating with elbows below the table was uncomfortable--but the owner had a great excuse for that and advised others love the chairs. We waited for the check for too long, and we had an order to take out advising our waiter no meat due to that person was a vegetarian, when opened the next day, it came with sausage which was thrown out. As an owner if an order was "not fired up," ( which never happened to me) I would have asked the table if they wanted a pizza on the house and invited them back--or at least desert on the house when the three meals were served rather than ask after advising the food was cold "but did it taste good" by the owner. The food was OK but even on the cold side -- it could be better. I am sure this will be corrected. There are so many Italian Restaurants in the area, let us hope if we visit again, this will not happen. read more
