This little restaurant was recommended by a lady we met in Boulder. We decided to try it after looking at the menu and reviews. It was a cute place but not the best food. We ordered the biscuit which was excellent. I ordered The Jennifer Benedict and I t was alright, arrived to the table at room temperature. My husband ordered the Cajun Omelet which was good but not really bursting with flavors of real Creole food. We also ordered one beignet to try but does not compare to the New Orleans one's. After working Downtown, and constantly passing this cute petite house, my husband and I finally decided to try it! First off, five stars for the overall review; service, food, and everything in between. Our server, Helena (at least that is what our receipt said) notified us that it was her first week; applaud. She was sweet as ever and for our first time; first impressions matter and we will be back! Food: 1. Buttermilk Biscuits: these big boys came alongside our entrees and holy cow were they delicious. These biscuits have a great bite, along with a fluffy and buttery interior. You can eat it alongside their jam, or get a side of sausage gravy. (We did BOTH!) Jams: - Orange Marmalade is very strong in orange and is bright and delicious. - Blueberry: actual blueberries and it was perfectly sweet. - Strawberry Rhubarb- OMG, best jam hands down, ever. Perfect tart, perfect sweet. Sausage Gravy: if you don't get the biscuits and gravy- get a side because it is worth the $4.50. It has great chunks of sausage and delicious creaminess. 2. Gumbo: Like our server said; don't let the Lunch menu scare you- they serve it ALL DAY. The gumbo- was delicious and super hearty. We only got a cup, and it was the perfect amount. The chicken and sausage shine, and it was perfectly seasoned. 3. Eggs Eisenhower: my husband got eggs over easy, with a side of grits. The grits lack flavor so we paired it with some sausage gravy and the side of potatoes! So good. 4. Creole Omelet: this was filled with delicious sausage and it was paired nicely with the hot sauce (on the table). So good and would get again. However the potatoes were over seasoned so definitely do not eat it by themselves; we paired it with the grits! Overall; this experience was amazing. The beignets and biscuits are ok. Skip the breakfast plates with hollandaise/ eggs/ potatoes. It's crowded and noisy, as breakfast places usually are. It's hard to find good New Orleans food outside of Louisiana but this is one of my favorite places when I feel like a home away from home meal. The only critique I have is the service isn't really there. It feels like my mother's house and is very homey, but the servers are not always hospitable and have been rude. 4.5 stars. We came here after a nice hike in boulder to gain some calories back. It is a house that's been converted to a cafe so it has a homely feel to it. They also have outside seating with heaters but glad we were able to sit inside. Their menu is through a QR code scan or online. They offer both breakfast and lunch until closing time which is great because it's not like there are tons of options. We ordered the hot chocolate and Bailey Irish coffee to drink followed by the andouille sausage Po-Boy, the gumbo and the Egg Jennifer. Everything was delicious. The gumbo reminded me of gumbo back in NOLA, the same soothing warm rush of the stew going down my throat. It was a little salty by itself but perfect when eaten with the rice. The Po-Boy was seriously good too. They added cheese, mustard in addition to the veggies and the sausage and the bread of it was delicious. Probably one of the best Po-Boys I've tasted. The potatoes with the Egg Jennifer were out of the world. The eggs themselves were very beautifully plated and also tasted good. We all pretty much cleaned up our plates which goes to show how good this was. The hot chocolate was unique in that they added cinnamon and some more spices to it. It ultimately tasted closer to a chai latte than a hot chocolate. Not quite sure how I feel about it. The Bailey's was hot, whichy brother found surprising as he's always had it cold apparently. I have no idea about this, but he didn't like it very much. I wanted to end the meal with a beignet but we looked at the size of them and there are 4 to a plate so we said but no thank you. This place would not survive in New Orleans or in the South in general. "Shrimp Creole" consisted of boiled shrimp with no seasoning / flavor and what tasted like canned marinara sauce over white rice. My friend's egg Benedict was a bit better but also plain and mediocre at best. read more

This is such a cute place. It is like a very large house with a patio for seating and front patio with seating. We had breakfast here. We of course had the Jalapeno grits.. To die for.... Let's just say I needed a nap after I finished breakfast. Portions are large, as evidenced by the giant biscuit that came with my breakfast. The beignets were also the largest I've seen. I had the Cajun breakfast: poached eggs with hollandaise, potatoes, and red beans with pulled pork in them. Very good. The breakfast came with a homemade jelly and butter. The beignets came out within 5 minutes, smothered in beautiful powdered sugar. They were both light and rich in flavor. The biscuit crumbles apart and has a tasty butter taste to it. The chai was also some of the best chai I've had--idk who's back there making it, but they're doing great . It's a small space so I recommend coming early or with a really small party. It was completely full at 10am on a Saturday. We were immediately seated as a party of 2, and were there for just about an hour given how quickly everything came out. Very homey environment. You can tell this place has been up and running for many many years. I came here wanting their gumbo but it's only available after 11am...if I ever come back to colorado, I'll make sure to try it next time! I got a grapefruit juice was that freshly squeezed which was great! I throughly enjoyed their home styled potatoes. It was seasoned so well that I never had to reach for ketchup. The biscuit that came with the Eisenhower was HUGE. It was on a separate plate. It was too crumbly. It did taste okay with the homemade jam. As for the beignets, don't forget to order those! Stopped by here for brunch after hiking the flatirons. The cafe itself is pretty cute; it's reminiscent of some cafes/houses in NOLA. Service is also really quick, which I appreciated. We sat outside on their covered patio; I loved that you get a lot of sunlight in the room, but it can definitely feel a little cramped and you can hear everyone's conversations in there clearly, which was a little awkward. We ordered the beignets, the seafood gumbo, and their eggs benedict on trout. Having been to NOLA a few times, the food here was just okay. I found the beignets to be not as crispy, the gumbo a little too thick and gravy-like. Probably the best thing here was the biscuit that the food came with. Also, the bathroom is a little small, and not as nice as I thought it would be. I seriously could have licked the plate. The gravy wasn't traditional, but I don't know if I can go back to "regular" gravy now. The red beans were delicious, the grits basic. My only complaint is they only have house hot sauce (No Cholula, etc.) and it's garlicky. I don't want that on my breakfast. The bathrooms leave a bit to be desired as well. Cozy breakfast spot off Pearl Street Came here before a tee time at flatirons golf course on a Saturday morning at 10am. No line at 10am quite yet, but the inside and outside were quite busy. The wait staff were attentive and we were seated quickly for a party of 6 The restaurant is a crowded, narrow old home so you are cozying up against other customers but it's all a part of the experience. My table ordered the Irish coffees, regular coffee and OJ. For food I ordered the beignets and the Eisenhower breakfast plate. The beignets come in 4 pieces per order. They were hot, but definitely not my favorite beignets. The dough was hollow inside, the bread tasted a bit bland instead of buttery and light, and the powdered sugar was also not that sweet. Yum! This location is just as fabulous as the Denver one that I had been to previously. This time I opted for the Bloody Maria (made with tequila) and it was just as delicious! I loved that this location had the seasoning that they put on the rim on the table as well. I was able to mix in that and their homemade hot sauce to make it the level of spicy that I enjoy. We ordered the Eggs Pontchartrain (with mountain trout) with the side of cheesy grits, plus a biscuit and a side of gravy. There was a mixup in the kitchen and we didn't end up getting the biscuit with our brunch. Our waitress brought a toasted English muffin in the meantime so that we could enjoy some jams. Be sure to ask if your favorite jam is not on the table! We had marmalade and strawberry rhubarb, but I saw that my favorite - blueberry - was on some other tables on the way out. When the biscuits were ready, our waitress brought us a complimentary fresh bowl of gravy. We just so happened to be sitting next to the owner (who was very nice), and she insisted that we get a new biscuit too because the one we got was crumbled up and missing some of the top. Lucille's Cajun-style Fine Food café located on 14th Street in downtown Boulder, CO, is a gem for brunch. Situated on a corner a few blocks from Pedestrian Mall, the cafe's pale yellow and white small framed Victorian house can be overlooked as a resident home if not for the sign announcing its name hanging on the porch and a stand-alone chalkboard announcing the day's bar specials on the sidewalk. That subtleness welcomes its guests to a comforting atmosphere. The morning of my visit, the special of the day drinks included a choice of orange or grapefruit mimosas or a tall glass of Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary included all the fixings & garnish that can fit into a tall glass. I chose grapefruit and other's from my group chose the orange mimosas which were equally delicious! We opened our meal with a few beignets which were finger-licking delicious! Our family of six ordered an assortment of breakfast dishes together with French pressed coffee accompanied by a 1-1/2 minute hourglass timer and all! Lucille's is one place that I can visit in Colorado that feels a bit like New Orleans cuisine. I really love the location in Boulder. It is off of Pearl Street which makes it a little bit quiet and cozy when you sit outside. The staff is amazing and really took great care of us. I love the beignets, as they taste like home. I love the mimosas! I was served a prosecco and a glass of OJ, so I could mix as I wanted. Of course, I drank them separate. =) The Eggs Jennifer is amazing!
