DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. I went here for a facial about a year ago and had a very positive experience (despite, as I'll mention again later, unreasonably unfriendly front desk staff), so I decided to go back. Turns out first time must have been a fluke because I have been disappointed each and every time since. Second time I went back I got the same facial but it was FIFTEEN MINUTES shorter. Not five, not ten, but fifteen (also missing the hand/foot massage that came with first). When I brought it up at the counter was given no helpful response, just told to pay the same amount and to call the manager to potentially work out some sort of refund situation. Got call back eventually and was told the provider of the second facial "was not aware of the length/time/protocol" for the service (or something to that effect) and that they'd send me a $10 gift certificate for the same facial (total cost is $45 which meant I'd still have to pay them $35 to go back). Ended up going back after I was given a gift certificate by family member and this time I added a manicure afterwards. Different staff at front desk, still as unfriendly (think of that scene in Oliver Twist when he asks for more soup, like they couldn't fathom why you were there trying to check in/pay/etc). Facial was fine, despite provider not having more than one word answers to my questions (because why should I want to know what's being put on my skin??!). Just overall disappointing because I tried liking this place, would love to be able to go here because it's close to where I live and their prices are not outrageous, but I just can't get past being treated like a pauper every time I visit. I went for a 1 hour combined massage and was sorely disappointed. The massage therapist smelled of cigarette smoke and the session pretty much consisted of her giving me a rub down with warm moisturizer. There was very little actual massage going on. I will not be going back. read more

Rhea is pleasant and meticulous. She takes her time, and it is obvious that she takes pride in her work. After my trial, she gave me her cell phone number, and she was quick to text back when I had questions. She listened to me, and I appreciated that she remembered my concerns from the trial on my wedding day. I've had so many negative/unprofessional interactions here that I promised I'd never go back. Then I won a $50 gift card so thought I'd try again and I booked a pedicure. Once again they didn't fail to disappoint, I was called one hour prior to my appointment and it was cancelled. No apology, no effort to find an easy time to reschedule just bam- we don't have a technician who can do this. I'm flabbergasted that people like this place. Lucinda's Spa measures up to the best spas that I have been to throughout the world over the past 10 years, easily competing with those at the top. I've only had massage treatment here but it is always superb and 100% focused and well thought out. Front desk check in is simple and effortless and the calm and easy going atmosphere is exactly what you go to a spa for. Yesterday my mother and I went to Lucindas to receive Moroccan Oil pedicures. Our appointment was at 10AM and we were there by 9:45AM. At 10AM we watched our nail technicians walk through the door of the building; so clearly our appointments did not start on time because our technicians didn't arrive on time and have our service set up. When we were finally taken back at 10:10AM we were placed in the water to soak (wasn't even offered a beverage which is something they normally do) and then the technician disappeared for just under 20 minutes. By the time the technicians came back the water that we were soaking in had gone cold. So our 10AM appointment didn't really start until 10:30AM. (Which according to the appointment cards our appointments were supposed to go from 10AM-11:30AM.....and they ended at 11:15AM). We expected a warm, soothing, relaxing experience and instead we got a cold (the hot towels, the hot stones, and the hot oil were all NOT hot) rushed expensive pedicure. The ladies at the pedicure place in the Maine Mall give a better pedicure than what we received yesterday, and for half the price. When cashing out the girl at the front desk got the manager (Vicky) for us to speak to. Vicky was a bitch. Before my mother and I even had a chance to explain what happened and how we felt, Vicky got defensive and jumped in with "well I spoke to your technicians and they said they started on time and we always have people soak for 15 minutes. So your service was performed correctly." I hold a cosmetology license myself AND I have worked in a variety of retail environments. The golden rule is the customer is ALWAYS right. And you try to do right by them if they were displeased. Vicky did not offer any apologies. She did not offer to reduce the price of our service (which were $84 a piece). She did not offer us a discount on a future service to ensure that we come back. It was clear that she did not care that we did not have a pleasant experience. I have received great massages from them in the past but after this experience with my mother, and the fact that the manager was such a bitch, I am not inclined to ever go there again. read more

I called after they closed and left a message. They promptly called me back the next morning. I wanted to book a mani-pedi for the same day and they were able to squeeze me in. The manicure was $9. I thought that it must have been a mistake because that seems so cheap, but no, that's just what it costs. The pedi was $45 but I got the deluxe pedi. Definitely more expensive than the Bay Area where there is a nail salon on every corner, but I'm not complaining. They had a wide selection of colors and the woman who did my nails was friendly, interesting, and easy to talk to. This is a full service day spa and I would like to try some of their other services sometime (massage, facials). I'll definitely be back! read more

My daughter and I went to Lucinda's in Scarborough to have a spa day to celebrate her 18th birthday. We each had a 90-minute combination massage as well as facials. Although the massage and the facials were done well and the employees were professional, I was not impressed with two major issues: 1. Although the massage and facial rooms are on the second floor and there is a sign specifically asking people to keep the talking volume down in this particular area, unfortunately, there is no soundproofing whatsoever in this place so all you hear from the massage room (mine was adjacent to the bathroom), is feet thumping up and down the hall, people having LOUD conversations in the hallway right outside the treatment room, the sound of women cackling and laughing downstairs (right at the bottom of the stairs - straight shot up to the massage room I was in) getting manicures. I could even hear parts of the conversation from another massage room down the hall when the door to that room was first closed! It was NOT relaxing. Although there was some light music, there was no white noise machine or anything to mask all this noise. As a matter of fact, 45 minutes into my massage I was just waiting for it to be over (again, not a reflection on the masseuse as she did a great job). When I wasn't hearing thumping, or cackling, or loud talking, I was hearing the darn toilet flushing every 10 minutes. I just could not zone out at all on this massage and determined I will not be returning to this particular location for that type of service. 2. Between massages and facials (both on the second floor), we were brought BACK down to the first floor wearing just robes to sit in an awkward and tight corner in a room where some women were getting manicures. It was not relaxing at all. I am used to spas where if you are in between sessions, there is a quiet, relaxing zen-type room where people just chill. This just felt uncomfortable. After a wait of about 20 minutes, we were ushered back UP the stairs to the facial treatment rooms. They really should just designate one of the upstairs rooms to be a quiet waiting room specifically for customers in between sessions. 3. In the second treatment room, thank goodness there was a white noise machine or something like a fan that was running so it blocked out all the extraneous noise. As a result, I was able to better enjoy the second treatment than the massage as I wasn't being distracted by all the comings and goings. Some suggestions: improve the sound-proofing, perhaps put a door at the top of the stairs so noise from the salon downstairs doesn't travel up. Also, WARN ALL EMPLOYEES ON PAIN OF DEATH to keep conversations when traveling up the stairs and down the hallway w/ customers to a minimum and QUIET. White noise machines should be not only in the treatment rooms but perhaps in the halls themselves. Soundproof better between bathroom and treatment room. No one wants to hear a toilet flushing every few minutes when they're spending $110 on a 90-minute massage. Designate one upstairs room as a waiting area for people in between upstairs treatments. Give people disposable slippers to wear during their time there, like other spas do. And lastly, have envelopes at the front desk (like Bei Capelli) for patrons to put tips in for the employees. As it was, I wanted to tip all 4 of the girls as I was leaving but 1 had left for the day and 2 others had to go help other customers, so the one remaining girl said she would give the tips to the 2 others, and the girl at the desk said she would give the tip to the girl who had left for the day. I would have preferred putting these other 3 tips in envelopes to be kept at the desk for the employees, rather than entrusting them to other people. I think Lucinda's is okay for this area, but if you compare it to higher-end spas, this Scarborough location really needs to make a few procedural improvements to class it up. read more

I went to the Cumberland location for the first time today, and I will not be going back. I got a manicure and a pedicure and while the staff were all very friendly, I am not impressed with the results and people seemed rushed. I will admit to being five minutes late, so I'm sure that didn't help. The woman who did my manicure managed to file the skin off the tip of one of my pinky fingers (ouch!), and was preoccupied with her next appointment, bringing it up several times. I was then handed over to another woman who was more relaxed and easy to talk to, but my issue with the pedicure was that after leaving and actually looking at my toes, it was obvious they needed another coat or two of polish. I could have done better myself. I'm getting married in two days and I'm glad my gown will hide my toes. Overall I'm not happy. read more

For Christmas my brother gave my 2 sisters, myself and my mom a GC for your establishment, he wanted us all to have a pampering day together so it took a while to come up with a day we were all available. When we arrived at Lucinda's the girls were very friendly and joked with us, they took us to a room that we had by ourselves, that was nice. Anyhow all the girls came right in except the one that was to do my mani/pedi, she came in a few minutes later. So my story is she was the last one in and the first one done, I continued to question her about how quick she was, she assured me I would be happy, that she has been doing it for years. So I was first to be done and the others were taking there time and really giving nice messages and doing a great job with make the others feel very pampered. I did not feel pampered, I have had better service at a walkin. So not even a week later my toe nail polish chipped off 3 toes, I have never had that happen it has always lasted well into a month. I want you to know I have told at least 6 other friends about my experience. This whole thing including tip of $14.00 cost me $75.00, $25.00 being the GC, I left $14.00 because I have been a waitress for 20+ yrs and I know that is how these girls make their living, I did not expect that my polish would come off in less then a week. Recently I got an hour long massage with Mindy that was amazing. I have bad back problems that cause a lot of tightening in my neck and shoulders. She really got in deep and eased some of my pain. From tears to cheers! I'll start by commending Heather, who waxes my brows perfectly every time. At my age (mid-fifties) this is a mini facelift so she makes a huge difference in my life. But yesterday I was in pain and had been for days, so I asked if anyone was available for a massage. Ben FIXED my back! He is so skillful that his manipulation of key trigger points gave me the first break I had had from pain so intense I was in tears. And that was after muscle relaxants and a chiropractic adjustment didn't do the trick. So I went there for a French pedicure and I received one that I could have done better myself...which sucks when you spend $47 on it. I think they do ok pedicures, but DO NOT go there for a French, they do not have the tools to finish the white tip, my tech. was confused when I asked her about it. She was however, very understanding the patiently friendly about removing my polish from my big toes and doing it over again. Although, they looked just as unfinished the second time around. Meh...go to Rejuvenations in Falmouth...I don't think they could screw up a French pedicure if they tried. read more

I got married in June and decided to book the private room for my 6 bridesmaids and myself to get manicures and pedicures the day before the wedding. It seemed so perfect to be able to be in a separate room with my bridesmaids and to be able to get our nails done at the same time. Due to unforeseen circumstances one of my bridesmaids couldn't make it, but I let them know as soon as I knew she wouldn't be there. For the most part we were all being helped at the same time, but a couple of my girls had to wait a little bit, which seemed strange since it's a private room which I booked so we could all start and end around the same time. The lady who did my mani and pedi did a great job and I really liked her. (Drawing a blank on names right now). Unfortunately, one of my bridesmaids had to wait quite a while to get started and then didn't even get the full treatment (she didn't get the massage or scrub that goes with the pedi, which the rest of us got...) and it was obvious that the girl who painted her toes wasn't very experienced and did a sloppy job. Said bridesmaid asked the woman who came in to do her mani about her toes, and that she didn't get the full treatment. Two nail techs made it sound like they'd be sure to either refund her or let her come back another day (since she didn't have time to stay to get them redone that day). One girl decided to touch up her toes, but then went to get assistance, which ended up being the owner herself... They looked slightly better after, but still not worth paying the full price of a partially done pedicure. When paying, they did not compensate my bridesmaid at all and the owner called her a liar by saying that she "must have forgotten or not been paying attention". She was not apologetic at all, and didn't seem to care if we came back or not. It's too bad because I enjoyed my pedi and mani but will not go back and never recommend Lucindas because of the poor attitude of the owner. This review is to accompany Lorraine Greene's previous post. I'm Lorraine's daughter; Lucinda's account is not what happened. It's true that I did call the Cumberland Spa and asked that they add my credit card into their system, so when I arrived it wouldn't draw attention to the fact that I wasn't using the gift card that was given to me as a gift. It's true that the woman on the phone was super friendly & helpful. It's true that when my mom & I arrived, the women at the reception desk were warm & kind. It's true that the 2 massage therapists we had did an amazing job. It's also true that when I realized my credit card had been charged twice for my massage, I called to explain the misunderstanding and offer a simple solution. The customer service I received from the billing person was horrendous. I know her name, but out of respect won't post it. She knows she treated me unprofessionally, could have helped me, but chose not to. When I tried to explain what really happened, her voice raised, she talked over me, wouldn't allow me to get a word in, and almost hung up on me...twice. The problem here isn't a billing error. Mistakes happen, miscommunications happen, that's life. The problem is the incredible lack of basic kindness and customer service I received at Lucinda's Day Spa, Cumberland. As a customer, I was not greeted with "oh my goodness, I'm so sorry. What can I do to help?" Not even close. I wasn't given the benefit of the doubt for one second, or the opportunity to explain the mix-up. Lucinda, if I were you, before I let customers walk out the door forever, I'd check in with my own staff to better understand what happens when you're out of the office. Clearly, you have some wonderfully kind people working for you, but one weak link ruins everything. Your billing customer service isn't what you think it is. read more
